Not having read any of the previous books in this series probably left me at a serious disadvantage. Although there was a lot of back story explained I didn't feel I really knew the characters and so didn't connect emotionally with either of the two main characters.

Empathy with the main characters is needed because of some of the harrowing and intense incidents that happen to one of them. Without that connection I found myself wanting the author to just get on with the story and stop waffling.

However, I enjoyed it enough to want to read the previous books in the series and try to get a better feel for the characters and then try this one again.

This is quite a horrific thriller and although I do not normally mention the story line I feel I have to with this.
As the story unfolds it becomes clear it involves domestic abuse, Rape and Incest.
A sad but compelling story.

A book that will shock you but you won't be able to put it down. I love all the main characters and can't wait for the next book

I had no idea when I requested this book that it was the 6th in a series so I will return to update my review when I have read the other 5 as, upon reading other's reviews, it sounds like a series worth reading!

I have to admit I hadn’t read any of the earlier books of this series, but the premise grabbed me. And so it begins as we meet Detective Miles who happens upon the body of a woman, only she’s alive. There’s also a male dead body. I was pulled in quickly to an investigation that involved tough bullies that were known criminal. I couldn’t stop reading but have to admit there is a very very tough scene that derailed the book as the book became even more about emotions and personal survival. Given that I hadn’t read the other books I’m sure the relationships aspects were also warranted but took up a bit too much of an otherwise engrossing story. Thanks so much to Avon and Netgalley for the book in return for an honest review.

I haven’t read the others in the series but I believe I will be checking the rest out because of how great this one is! It is dark and deals with intense plot points. I haven’t read something so dark in awhile and I really enjoyed it. Great read!

Katerina Diamond at her best - one of my all time favourite authors - the Imogen Grey and Miles series has me hooked from start to finish.
This story had me in tears however - Katerina - how could you do that to Adrian - !! I obviously wont say what happens but the way it was written was addictive but heart wrenching at the same time - barely ever would a crime novel get you like this! Amazing! 5*****

Woman in the Water by Katerina Diamond is a suspenseful crime novel that follows detectives Imogen Grey and Adrian Miles as they try to work out why a mysterious woman connected to a previous chilling case, where a woman’s body was found badly beaten and submerged in water, is trying very hard to hide who is doing this to her.

First of all, when I requested this book from the publisher I was unaware that this novel happens to be the sixth book in this series- so a word of caution for those who have stumbled onto this review and are planning to read this book. Even though this book can be read as a standalone, I personally feel that my reading experience would have been even better if I had some former introduction to the main characters beforehand.

I am a huge fan of crime novels and mystery books, so I had expectations for this one- especially after figuring out that this book was part of an ongoing series aka it had to be good for it to have a whole series dedicated to it. I did end up enjoying this book for the most parts, but one thing I do want to point out is I felt like the twist in the end was not as effective. It could be due to the lack of anticipation and suspense towards the end that made the twist seem less shocking, or perhaps it may be because I have read far too many crime novels that twists like this one rarely shock me.

That being said I would still recommend this book/series if you are just starting out in the crime fiction genre as it is not overly gory and is suspenseful enough to keep you reading. That being said there are a couple scenes that can be quite triggering to some so be warned (t//w: domestic violence, rape, etc.)

Overall, the plot is well-written and fairly easy to keep up with without forgetting what had happened in the precious chapters. There are moments where the plot picks up pace and makes you want to keep on reading. The author’s writing style is perfect for this kind of genre as it is descriptive enough to be immersive but not an information overload. I am considering reading the other books in this series and will definitely be looking forward to Katerina Diamond’s future works.

3.5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for providing me with an advanced reader’s copy of ‘Woman in the Water’ by Katerina Diamond.

Adrian Miles discovers a mystery woman in icy water but has no idea how much it will change his .life. He and his partner, Imogen Grey are soon on the trail of who is responsible. Besides the crime, this book also focuses on their personal lives, maybe a bit too much. A horrendous, very descriptive attack might upset some people. The villain is particularly nasty which certainly keeps the reader engrossed enough to find out if the person gets their just rewards. It was easy to read despite the sometimes dark subject matter plus a great cover.

I’ve come to realise now that if you’re picking up a book by Katerina Diamond, you’re in for a great read! Woman in the Water is no exception to this and I highly recommend giving it a go, five stars from me!

Gah this storyline was just fantastic! The characters were absolutely amazing and the suspense was perfect for this novel. A must read!

I seem to be going against the majority of reviewers in finding this very disappointing. The relationship between the two main characters just did not seem realistic and although it started well and was reasonably well written I just found it less and less believable

In particular how had Reece survived so long ? Although Adrian's reaction to his rape was credible, I simply cannot believe that if as suggested this was the last of many such abuses against the rough tough dodgy criminal types portrayed, that at least one of them wouldn't have just killed Reece. Not to mention Catherine :/
And if Reece was so hard why did he move down south for no apparent reason ?

Recently I've started reading series from the beginning as a result of a free ARC, but this series won't be adding to the list...

As a stand alone title or as one following the lives of our policing heros from earlier books this one cannot be missed. It works as a stand alone read because the other characters are new and the story doesn’t really need the background from previous titles. A great reveal at the ending and one that will keep you guessing. Ms Diamonds books always keep you on the edge and this one is no different. Grabs you in from the start and doesn’t let go.

Woman in the Water was a good read. I really enjoyed Katerina’s writing style. From the discovery of the body (which nearly made me jump out of my seat whilst reading) through the gripping build up of the case surrounding the mystery woman via the relationship between Adrian and Imogen this was a rollercoaster read. It is certainly not for the fainthearted. There were some quite graphic scenes and one particularly brutal episode was hard to read and changed the focus of the book. Covering domestic abuse, corruption, rape, murder this is a dark disturbing read, but is dealt with in a sensitive way and I don’t think these are issues that should be shied away from. Definitely recommend.

This book was a brilliant read and one that is perfect to escape for a few hours and loose yourself.
Characters that fall out of the pages of the book and make you fell apart of the story, the setting is lovely and captured well with words.
A great read. that I would highly recommend.

This is the sixth novel in the Miles and Grey series. Whilst the story was quite gruesome, I have no liking for the detectives personalities. I have read other books in the series but this will be my last.

This enjoyable, page turning thriller/police procedural went beyond my expectations. It is well written, compelling, and activates more than just the adrenalin glands - it engages the heart and mind too. The characters are flawed - yes of course they are, they always are - but no neat answers are given, enough strands left unsolved that I was left thinking about them after the novel ended. It also deals with gritty, ugly subject matters, factually and unflinchingly. I was not prepared for what happened to the detective, but it made the novel better that it did. I would gladly read the next one, and I'm not generally a huge fan of the genre.

You just can't go wrong with a Katrina Diamond book. I've read quite a few and I enjoy every single one. This one, too, is great.
