One of the best books I have read in a while. I don’t want to give anything away. But you should definitely read this

The blurb:

When a woman’s body is found submerged in icy water, police are shocked to find she is alive. But she won’t disclose her name, or what happened to her – even when a second body is discovered. And then she disappears from her hospital bed.

Detectives Adrian Miles and Imogen Grey follow their only lead to the home of the Corrigans, looking for answers. But the more they dig into the couple’s lives, the less they understand about them.

What’s their connection to the body in the river?

Why have other people they know been hurt, or vanished?

And can they discover the dark truth of their marriage before it’s too late?

I don't know what to say about this book. It's shocking and heartbreaking and a lot of the time I couldn't breathe while I was reading. 4**

When Adrian Miles finds a woman submerged in icy water he's sure she's dead but she has clung to life despite been badly beaten. She refuses to say who she is or what happened. When a body is discovered near to where Mile found her she vanishes. Imogen Grey and Miles have one lead that leads them to a couple called the Corrigans and a rabbit hole of fear and intimidation.

So this has been one of my favourite series for awhile but unfortunately this left me a bit cold. The story itself is sound but the plot has become a bit bogged down with Miles and Greys relationship. And I feel rotten for thinking that as I was one of those rooting for them to get together! But the worst thing for me was there is a particularly graphic and nasty assault. This isn't particularly surprising in this series but it felt like a really horrible thing was been used as a plot device to move the series on. And in fact the aftermath slowed this story down. And worse still the "plot twist" was far too predictable. For the first time I'm really disappointed in the series but am hoping the next part will get things back on track as previous to this it was a really fantastic series.

A good read, interesting characters and storyline as usual by Ms Diamond. Very deep and stimulating to read. It is the type of book you cannot put down.

This is the 6th book in the Detectives Adrian Miles and Imogen Grey series., unfortunately, this is the first once I have read, but I will now read the rest of the series. Nevertheless, a fast=paced and most enjoyable read. Recommended

Wow I was not prepared for this to be as brutal and dark as it was. What a great read. It had me captavated from the off. Even though we know how our villain is it was so gripping seeing where this story took us and the twists and turns. This was my first glimpse of Katerina Diamonds work and although it is book 6 in a series it can defiantly be read as a stand alone. I will defiantly be reading the rest of the series. Can't wait for the next one to see what's in store for Adrian and Imogen. Be warned though there are some very destressing scenes in this story and definatley some trigger points for some people.

This one wasn't for me unfortunately. I used to love this series but it's fell flat for me lately. Thrillers are all becoming very similar lately.

Woman in the Water is the sixth book in the DS Imogen Grey series and I think one of the best that I have read yet (and it’s a good series). In this instalment we find Imogen’s relationship with her partner deepening and this is interesting in itself as they are both complex characters who seem to have found a true measure of solace in one another. I really enjoy when a series builds the layers within its key characters with each new book.
The book starts with a woman’s body discovered in shallow water and Adrian Miles is the first on the scene. The woman is so badly bruised and battered that he initially believes her to be dead but then she suddenly shows signs of life. With the dead body of a man also discovered nearby this kicks off a story with a plot that is both engaging and, at times, highly disturbing.

Imogen and Adrian find an enemy in this book who is frighteningly twisted and dangerous and who also seems to be above the law. The quest to catch and convict him comes at huge personal cost to one of the pair and carries with it far reaching consequences for both of them and their relationship.

There is a scene of assault which incredibly upsetting within this story. It is of a crime which is not always widely spoken of and is written in such a way that I was horrified and tearful at the same time. It stayed with me long after I finished reading it and I believe Diamond wrote both the crime and its aftermath in a very real way. It is difficult to read but I believe tackled the subject authentically.

I won’t elaborate any more on the plot. You know I don’t really like to do that, I prefer to leave that up to the reader to devour and digest. My job here is to tell you if I recommend this book and I do. If you cannot handle really hard hitting crime novels then it may not be for you, but otherwise I most definitely do recommend. What I will say is that you really do need to read the other books in the series. I have read most but not all them so was OK with keeping track. Both Imogen and Adrian go through a hell of a lot within the series and I think you could be left struggling to understand a fair bit without their back stories and previous cases. It is a great seris to get your teeth in to though if you enjoy this genre so I would say go for it and read the lot if you haven’t already!

My thanks to #Netgalley, #AvonBooksUK and #KaterinaDiamond for a copy of #WomanInThewater

Woman In The Water’ is the latest book by Katerina Diamond.

Woman In The Water’ sees the return of crime fighting duo DS Adrian Miles and DS Imogen Grey.

The story starts with Adrian discovering a young woman in the water, presumed dead until he saves her. When she regains her consciousness, she remembers nothing but suddenly one day, she disappears. Adrian finds himself obsessing with the woman and case, as a child he witnessed domestic abuse and finds himself consumed with finding her and keeping her safe. But as Adrian and Imogen investigate the case, Adrian delves into dark places that impact him in the worst possible way.

Katerina’s books have always been very dark and gory, bringing the reader to the dark side of human nature but in this book, it’s not just gruesome, but also unsettling as one of the main characters has to go through a terrible ordeal. She handles the story with care and sensitivity but also includes the harrowing police procedure and the aftermath that the victim has to endure.

Again Katerina has delivered a story with twists and turns that really pull the reader in. With unreliable characters, suspicious people and the complex relationship between the investigating duo as thru embark on new territory.

Although ‘Woman In The Water’ is the latest book in Katerina’s series, I found it to have an extremely different slant to her previous books. Even though it included the crime duo that we love, the usual gore and suspense that kept us on our toes this book included a topic that is seen rarely reported due to the shame and the absolute terror of it but Katerina brought it forward in her writing which was commendable.

Written with care and precision, this book tackles issues of abuse on many levels and makes for heartbreaking and gripping reading. Extremely unsettling in parts, ‘Woman In The Water’ is a fantastic new book from Katerina Diamond, filled with twists and turns that shocked you to the gore, this book stays with you long after you reach the final page and if anything may give people the courage to speak up if they were in similar circumstances.

You can pre-order ‘Woman In The Water’ from Amazon and will be available to buy from good bookshops from 9th January 2020.

Not having read any of the previous books in this series probably left me at a serious disadvantage. Although there was a lot of back story explained I didn't feel I really knew the characters and so didn't connect emotionally with either of the two main characters.

Empathy with the main characters is needed because of some of the harrowing and intense incidents that happen to one of them. Without that connection I found myself wanting the author to just get on with the story and stop waffling.

However, I enjoyed it enough to want to read the previous books in the series and try to get a better feel for the characters and then try this one again.

This is quite a horrific thriller and although I do not normally mention the story line I feel I have to with this.
As the story unfolds it becomes clear it involves domestic abuse, Rape and Incest.
A sad but compelling story.

A book that will shock you but you won't be able to put it down. I love all the main characters and can't wait for the next book

I had no idea when I requested this book that it was the 6th in a series so I will return to update my review when I have read the other 5 as, upon reading other's reviews, it sounds like a series worth reading!

I have to admit I hadn’t read any of the earlier books of this series, but the premise grabbed me. And so it begins as we meet Detective Miles who happens upon the body of a woman, only she’s alive. There’s also a male dead body. I was pulled in quickly to an investigation that involved tough bullies that were known criminal. I couldn’t stop reading but have to admit there is a very very tough scene that derailed the book as the book became even more about emotions and personal survival. Given that I hadn’t read the other books I’m sure the relationships aspects were also warranted but took up a bit too much of an otherwise engrossing story. Thanks so much to Avon and Netgalley for the book in return for an honest review.

I haven’t read the others in the series but I believe I will be checking the rest out because of how great this one is! It is dark and deals with intense plot points. I haven’t read something so dark in awhile and I really enjoyed it. Great read!

Katerina Diamond at her best - one of my all time favourite authors - the Imogen Grey and Miles series has me hooked from start to finish.
This story had me in tears however - Katerina - how could you do that to Adrian - !! I obviously wont say what happens but the way it was written was addictive but heart wrenching at the same time - barely ever would a crime novel get you like this! Amazing! 5*****

Woman in the Water by Katerina Diamond is a suspenseful crime novel that follows detectives Imogen Grey and Adrian Miles as they try to work out why a mysterious woman connected to a previous chilling case, where a woman’s body was found badly beaten and submerged in water, is trying very hard to hide who is doing this to her.

First of all, when I requested this book from the publisher I was unaware that this novel happens to be the sixth book in this series- so a word of caution for those who have stumbled onto this review and are planning to read this book. Even though this book can be read as a standalone, I personally feel that my reading experience would have been even better if I had some former introduction to the main characters beforehand.

I am a huge fan of crime novels and mystery books, so I had expectations for this one- especially after figuring out that this book was part of an ongoing series aka it had to be good for it to have a whole series dedicated to it. I did end up enjoying this book for the most parts, but one thing I do want to point out is I felt like the twist in the end was not as effective. It could be due to the lack of anticipation and suspense towards the end that made the twist seem less shocking, or perhaps it may be because I have read far too many crime novels that twists like this one rarely shock me.

That being said I would still recommend this book/series if you are just starting out in the crime fiction genre as it is not overly gory and is suspenseful enough to keep you reading. That being said there are a couple scenes that can be quite triggering to some so be warned (t//w: domestic violence, rape, etc.)

Overall, the plot is well-written and fairly easy to keep up with without forgetting what had happened in the precious chapters. There are moments where the plot picks up pace and makes you want to keep on reading. The author’s writing style is perfect for this kind of genre as it is descriptive enough to be immersive but not an information overload. I am considering reading the other books in this series and will definitely be looking forward to Katerina Diamond’s future works.

3.5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for providing me with an advanced reader’s copy of ‘Woman in the Water’ by Katerina Diamond.

Adrian Miles discovers a mystery woman in icy water but has no idea how much it will change his .life. He and his partner, Imogen Grey are soon on the trail of who is responsible. Besides the crime, this book also focuses on their personal lives, maybe a bit too much. A horrendous, very descriptive attack might upset some people. The villain is particularly nasty which certainly keeps the reader engrossed enough to find out if the person gets their just rewards. It was easy to read despite the sometimes dark subject matter plus a great cover.
