Afraid to Breath is the first book I’ve read by this author.

In this novel, we find country singer Teddie returning home during a well deserved break from singing. Now that she’s back home, she’s coming to grips with her parent’s tragic death and the boyfriend who broke her heart.

Interested in reading more by this author in the future.

Had potential:
This is the first book in the Donavon Sister series and while there were some interesting developments regarding the mystery, it unfortunately didn't grab me. There were some unexpected twists and it had me guessing but overall it was rather a dark and depressing story. The writing style felt stiff and I didn't feel an emotional connection to any of the characters. The romance between Drew and Teddie lacked depth and seemed to be stuck in the past tense rather than evolve and mature in the present. I also did not like the multiple instances of infidelity with every couple that was mentioned. Another stumbling block for me were the numerous mistakes with incorrect words used as well as grammatical errors.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

I wasn't sure if I liked this one or not after I started it. By the end, I was hooked. The characters still feel as if they are developing and if it's going to be a series then I'm okay with it. The mysteries are interesting and I would have liked to see more depth to their part of the story. The second chance love aspect made the story worth reading. I liked the characters of Drew and Teddie, even when they frustrated me. Overall this is a good read and I will be picking up the next.

I'm not writing a review of this book because I just ran into issues with it. I felt that the romance didn't work--the sex scene comes from nowhere because there's not really been any emotional connection and Drew has been very angry though he isn't really justified and he has no sense that he played a role in Teddie's leaving. I also had difficulty with him appearing at the very end to safe Teddie--deus ex machina moment--and the fact that Teddie doesn't really save herself.

It's not that I hated the book, but I prefer not to give negative reviews. I thought the suspense story was well built.

I’m not sure what this was, but good wasn’t it. Getting through the first pages was agony but the rest was like dragging myself over broken glass it was so bad. A poorly written episode of a bad daytime soap opera. Skip it. Save your money.

I was provided with an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The good
I liked the writing style which drew me in. I liked the story and was really rooting for the main character.

The bad
I totally saw the "twist" coming And it just felt a little contrived. And I didn't feel the chemistry between the reunited lovers. There wasn't enough detail there to make me believe it.

Overall
I liked this book and am glad to have read it. I would read more by this author.

Thank you to net galley for the advance copy.
