This was an excerpt for The Sunday Potluck Club. It circles around 4 friends who met in the cancer ward. Each of them had a loved one fighting for their lives. The cancer ward is not the ideal place to make friends but these four are bonded over something that no one else understands unless they have been through it.

Every Sunday they each bring a dish and share dinner together. It started to bring a sense of normalcy but evolved into friends sharing a meal together. The main character of the book seems to be Amy. She is a second grade teacher who lost her mom to cancer. She feels like the mom of the group to me. She seems to have a soft spot for Bridgette who is the youngest in the group and just lost her mom.

I like the writing style of the book so far and the characters. I look forward to reading the book in its entirety when it is released.

Not exactly the kind of book I'd usually read, but this one caught my eye, and, though only a excerpt of the story,I really enjoyed it! The women felt like women I know. Drawn together by parents with cancer, the women form a tight knit group who support each other in their trials. They gather for pot lucks to provide support services for each other and even attend each's parents funerals- those vary wildly and widely in nature. Such an uplifting story. I think it will find lots of readers! It is well written and an easy read.
I received a Kindle arc of the book from Netgalley in exchange for a fair review.

Loved the premise of this book. Having had a series of losses in the recent past, grief is something that I can relate to. Also, I am aware that each of us grieves in our own way. From the excerpt, I gathered how these friends tried to accept each other's way if mourning while coming t terms with their own losses.
Looking forward to reading the book.

A group of women met as a result of their parents being diagnosed with cancer. They became each other’s support system and they became friends.

As time went on, they also supported each other through their parents’ funerals. The deaths were staggered back to back, with the exception of the one friend whose parent recovered and survived.

This story starts as the last funeral has ended. The youngest woman in group, only 23, has just lost her mom. Her friends are worried that it hasn’t full hit her yet. Although they’ve agreed to respect each other’s way of grieving, they feel that their friend might be in denial.

Meanwhile, one friend is far enough past her mom’s death that she’s returning to work. She is still broken hearted and majorly suffering from her loss.

This was an excerpt rather than the full book. It seems like it’ll be a good story about friendship. It also seems like animals and romance will factor in as well. I’ll definitely request the galley of the full book when it’s posted.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review the opening chapters of this new book. Given that the full book will not be available to review until February 2020, my review is based on the initial chapters available to me, I would say the book has promise. It starts out a little bit on the depressing side so I was a bit worried when it started, but the book picks up steam as you read on. It could use a bit more punch at the outset as this sets the tone for the reader. It's okay for the story to be about women bonding over their shared grief, but maybe start further in and then take the reader back to the beginning later on? Just an idea...

I didn’t realize this was only a preview to the book,
My first impression was it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. In fact it seemed a bit depressing. I’m not sure if I want to read the entire book now. Thanks to Netgalley for the early preview

A wonderful, inspiring read about hope and friendship in the midst of adversity and disappointment. Bridget and Amy meet at the cancer ward of an Anchorage hospital, each facing the unthinkable. Their friendship is forged in the midst of adversity and they refuse to be beaten down by tragedy. By sharing meals and opening their heart to each other, they learn the value of true friendship and what it means to have unconditional support. Excellent read, thoroughly enjoyable.

This was a good sneak peak. At the beginning of reading I thought this was an ARC, but then I realized that it was an excerpt but I will certainly read the book as soon as it is released.

I really liked this excerpt. The four women in the story became friends after meeting each other at the hospital as each woman had a parent who had cancer. I liked that it showed the different ways everyone grieves. This sample drew me in and before I knew it, I was finished! I can't wait for the entire book. Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington for the excerpt.

This is a story about grief and how different individuals cope with the loss of parent. As it is just an excerpt, it is difficult to review it. But I have to say this: as the book deals with a heavy subject matter, the author must build excellent character development. Generally speaking, the chapters that I read seemed interesting. Good cover!

Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for providing me a sample of The Sunday Potluck Club by Melissa Storm!

This little sample was so so good and sucked me in the moment I read the first sentence. This story follows four women who all met in the hospital while they cared for their parents who happened to all have cancer. They each have gone through the grieving process differently and no matter how different they are from one another they make sure to be there for each other. What I love most is that I can feel all the feelings they feel and to me that makes such a great book.

I look forward to reading the rest of this book once it is released in its entirety.
