Thank you NetGalley!

There is a local boy Griffin Tomlin who was murdered. A girl named Emily has been accused of the murder and is in jail awaiting for her trial. Emily's sister, Clara, doesn't believe her sister did it, especially because Emily has been maintaining her innocence.
There are secrets and there is a story here. Its not an easy read by any means as there is some tough scenes to get through, so be careful if you are triggered by any sort of assault.

I would rate this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I had mixed feelings about this book. While I found the time jumps within each section confusing, parts of the story implausible and the romance unnecessary, I really liked where the author took this plot and how dark she was willing to get.

I would recommend checking this one out if it sounds like something you might enjoy.

This was a great creepy, thrilling story that will have you hooked from the beginning! There is a twist you will not see coming! Thank you NetGalley for my copy!

What happened that night? That’s the question as you did into this twisted, dark story. But don’t worry, the author keeps you captivated and strings you along as you weave through the story. So so good!

This book is told from the perspective of Clara who is our main character. Her sister is in jail for the murder of her once crush turned rapist, Griffin. Clara thinks her sister killed him for her which we find out further along in the story that that was not the case. It alternates timeline from before he was killed and the present. I liked that. I wish there was more in the before maybe from her sister and Griffin too. It reads like a mystery with a little investigative work and a budding romance. I thought it was overall good. It kept my attention.

Wow! This book had so many twists and turns! There is never a dull moment in it. I really liked how it starts off telling you what happened that night, and then it continues going back and forth between before the incident and after. Deeper into the story, a really big curveball is thrown forcing Clara to take a deep look into the people in her life. I really liked the conversation she has with her mom about forgiveness and moving on. This was a great read! #whathappenedthatnight #netgalley

I guess I didn't realize this was young adult before reading, so maybe I wouldn't have been disappointed had I known that. It was a good storyline, albeit a few eye rollers of twists/reveals, but that is where the ya comes in as appropriate for Readers. I won't be hitting the sequil on this one.

What Happened That Night is elaborately woven around an interesting premise. Clara's sister, Emily, has murdered their neighbour and Clara's long-time crush. However, Clara believes that Emily did it to avenge Clara, until Clara and her new friends start to unravel what happened.

I found the jumps in the storyline jarring and difficult to follow at times. (Hopefully some of these jumps were accounted for with white space or breaks that were missing from the eARC.) Additionally what started as an interesting storyline, became too stretched to remain believable.

Suspenseful and thoughtful, Love seeing authors who think through their stories throughly. Dark and twisting Author Deanna Cameron gives you a little of everything. Truly thought provoking.

I enjoyed the pacing of this one, and although the topic could be hard for some people to read, I felt it was handled really well. Each character felt fleshed out and developed, and I was turning pages as fast as I could to find out how it all ended!

The cover of this book may fool you like it did me and you will think this book is some crime thriller or spooky story, but it is neither.

A young man is dead and Clara's sister is in jail for his murder. The story switches between the past and the present and flows well. No one but Clara and her sister know what the murdered boy named Griffin did to her one night.

This book could be a trigger for some since it involves rape, it is a violent rape and was hard for me to read. But the author warns you of this in the beginning of the book which I appreciated and prepared me.a bit for it.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book.

This is a book for readers who love murder mysteries.

When a local boy is found murdered and her sister is placed on trial, it's up to the main character to try and figure out what really happened and who is truly behind it all.

She teams up with a reporter in an attempt to bring justice to the situation and set her sister free.

If you read a lot of YA murder mysteries, you may notice that this one reads similarly. The plot reads like its fellow genre novels, so some of it was a bit predictable.

But overall, the story was still enticing and did have a few thrills here and there. I ended up giving this one 4 out of 5 stars.

I found that when I was reading this book, I wanted to read on. Whenever I stopped reading, I was looking forward to getting back to the story because I wanted to find out the truth. This book is all about finding the truth and awkward friendships. There is little doubt about whodunnit but you still feel compelled to read on, just in case. This book does tackle the subject of rape and abuse but it doesn’t go into particularly graphic detail but I wouldn’t recommend it for middle school aged children. The main character, Clara, is instantly likeable and young people will relate to how she has to navigate her life. It is simply written but has enough draw to make you want to read on, as all good books should.

What Happened That Night falls into one of my least-read genres (YA thriller/mystery), but it wasn't that bad! I was impressed with this book, especially since it was originally published on Wattpad and therefore probably not edited by a professional before its first-draft online debut.

This book's strong point is its plot and not its characters. Even though the title makes it seem like the reader's going to spend their reading time wondering what exactly happened "that night," Griffin's murder is explained in basically the first chapter. I'm glad that most of the story wasn't dedicated to the mystery of who murdered Griffin - it was pretty obvious from the beginning.

It's interesting to see how Clara is kind of an unreliable narrator, though I'm not sure if that was the intention, and it made her kind of annoying. I would have loved to see more of the inner thoughts and motives of Clara's sister Emily, too (and even Griffin - why did they do what they did? It's never explained). In fact, there seems to be almost no explanation for any of the character's actions except for the protagonist, Clara.

The ending was satisfying, and the overall novel was a quick and pretty intriguing read. I mainly had problems with the protagonist, though the actual events of the book were interesting enough that I didn't set this book down that much.

*I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I thought that it was going to be a neatly wrapped up story, and instead it was a twisty book that kept me on my toes until the very end. I know that this is a YA novel, however I would definitely recommend that younger teens be kept away from it due to some of the graphic descriptions of the content. I noticed a few typos in the document, but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed before printing. All in all I would definitely recommend this book to both older teen and adult readers.

This was my first book of this author. I think this was a wattpad book first? So anyway...

I have a love hate relationship with this book. It has errors. It was dragging at some parts. But this book was interesting enough to keep on reading. It took me awhile to read this one because I have a lot on my plate (sorry!)
But yes overall, I enjoyed this one. Loved the twists. There is something lacking but it was enjoyable. Hope to read more fron the author!

For me, this book kind of fell flat. I found myself rolling my eyes throughout, it was very underwhelming and a lot of the problems could have been avoided. Seeing that this was originally a Wattpad book, though, I understand the quality.

I can not believe this is a watt pad author. This was in very enjoyable book. I would love to read more from this author. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

4-5 stars. This book is quite dark and has some disturbing subject matter, but I truly enjoyed it. Found it to be quite gripping, thrilling, and shocking. I love books that are dark, disturbing, and deal with things most do not want to read about, so this book was an amazing read for me. I think it would’ve been a 5 star, but something was off that made me hesitate at the 5 stars, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed!
Will make sure I buzz it up!
