Cool concept, not so cool execution. While I know that this is an advanced reading copy and things will be more ship-shape in the final copy, this still read like something pulled straight from Wattpad.

Not a fan of this book. The premise was great but the execution could have been better, the protagonist's internal voice was also slightly irritating.

V.S. Santoni's I'm a Gay Wizard was a blast from start to finish. They immediately built tension in the first chapter, gave an excellent overview of their world/magic system, and gave me characters I really loved.

Some of the stand out moments of the book included any scene with Allison (could I love her more if I tried.) The relationship between Hunter and Johnny (I cheered for them throughout the entire book), the magic system, and the general creepiness of the institute as a setting.

For fans of Harry, Potter, Carry On, and other magical world novels this is a definite addition, and one that twists some of the more common tropes associated with magic world stories and makes them far more menacing and uncomfortable.

Could not recommend more. 10/10
