Own Your Anxiety by Julian Brass is a collection of 99 things that can help you with your anxiety. These techniques include belly breathing, avoiding caffeine and making time to relax and laugh. Although the ideas presented are all useful, in my opinion, none of them would actually be able to pull a person out of acute anxiety. The techniques will definitely help someone who is stressed but anxiety is another condition altogether and requires deeper intervention.

I would suggest picking up this book AFTER you have gone through some therapy (which is indispensable to treating anxiety in a way so that anxiety doesn't come back). Then, this book will be a nice collection of things that you can do whenever you have mild anxiety and after you have used the techniques taught to you in therapy.

The writing doesn't read like fluff and the author has experienced anxiety himself, so the book is based in reality.

I received a free copy of the book from Netgalley.

This book is about redefining your relationship with anxiety, and making a positive, as opposed to a negative aspect of one's life. It includes 99 tools, divided into 3 separate categories, on how to reclaim your mind, body and soul. It is Brass' intent to help people improve their lives and be their very best selves.

Although many of these practices can be found throughout literature relating to anxiety, I liked the way this book was set up. These tips are also applicable to everyone, regardless of race, age, social class, ability, etc. This book also reminded me that I cannot control everything, which is something I struggle with often.

This is a good read for anyone struggling with anxiety or who wants to take their mental health to a different level. It teaches that you have to own your anxiety rather than focusing on how to fix it or get rid of it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Very average, well known advice to help you deal with your anxiety. Did not learn anything new unfortunately, but it was nice to he reminded once again about the things I already know.

I downloaded this book with the hopes of learning new ways to help cope with anxiety which I've had over 10 years, instead I found myself reading stuff I already read before just by Googling online or in other blog forums.

I honestly took nothing from this book that I already didn't know. Was a huge disappointment for me, if anything it gave me more anxiety because I was so egar to find something new and didn't. Sigh

I've read a lot of self-help books over the years to help me with my depression and anxiety and had high hopes for this book. I started the book feeling inspired, Julian himself had gone through a horrible fight with anxiety and for me it means more if the self-help book is written by someone whose experienced it.

However I really found myself struggling with this book and found myself skim reading the headings until I found one that felt like it actually related to my experience. To be honest this book left me feeling more anxious and more disappointed in myself because I cant and haven't been doing a lot of what he suggests. In my opinion Julian presumes that everyone has access to the different things he suggests. As someone who has suffered from anxiety for over 8 years 'making calming friends' is not as easy as he makes it seem. Also some of the headings just seemed stupid to me, like 'don't park illegally' or 'don't jaywalk'.

On the other hand there are a few things that I did take from this book, for example the breathing technique but overall I was really disappointed in this book and honestly would have disappointed if I had brought this book when nearly every single point is something you can find in a google search..

I read thru this book hoping to find some new info. This is the same info that I have read over and over again just presented by a different author.
The author continues to share the importance of talking to your healthcare provider and seeking help from mental health providers.

This book offers great strategies for people who suffer from anxiety. I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and have already tried several of these techniques, some of which are quite helpful. I did find that this book also had some new ideas to try which is great!

This was an interesting read about anxiety. Unfortunately, I have severe anxiety, and I wish it would if helped me more!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

The idea of having short, action nuggets on dealing with your anxiety has merit—the quick-in-quick-out approach could work for the people who need it most, who can just look at the book and get a way to change their behavior. And Brass's ideas are generally solid and he often gives references to research to support his claims. That said, there is really nothing new in this book; I've read most of it before. Some ideas are a little oddly specific, or perhaps just odd, such as "Don't Park Illegally," "Don't Walk Alone at Night if it Scares You," and "When You're Rushing, Don't Email or Text." And it could have used better editing, as the book has repetitive passages throughout. I just don't think this is ready yet, in the version I saw. Own Your Anxiety

Is a Goldmine of information everyone should have as a constant companion. Organized in away that's easy to read, and understand. What I truly love about this book there is no homework, it's not filled with, you must do this, or you must do that. The author gives easy to follow tips that help every type of anxiety driven person from successful to overcoming stressful health issues. I also like how each suggestion is numbered, because what I plan on doing is checking off each one as I accomplish the goal. Definitely a book purchase for me that I will keep on hand for constant review. Here is a quote from the book I loved "we can't be our best until we define what our best is. And we can't define what out best is until we know what our values are."

"Life is what you maks of it." Buy this book!

This was not an informative read unfortunately, most of the info given is easily found at the top of a Google search "how to help anxiety"...I learned nothing new. Kind of a let down.

Own Your Anxiety is book full of practical tips that one can implement in their every day life and help ease the anxiety and according to the author ultimately own your anxiety. I agree that the majority of the tips he listed can definitely help anxiety- anything from smiling more to meditation to paying attention to what you eat to moving your body more. None of these tips are brand new ideas but it is always good to have the reminders and I appreciate that they were coming from someone who has had their own experience with anxiety. I do think that as he states towards the beginning of the book it's really important to talk to your doctor about your anxiety- for some these tips may work alone, for others they may need additional assistance such as therapy and medication. Thank you to Netgalley and Page Two Books for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Own Your Anxiety by Julian Brass. WOW, What a great book. I really enjoyed it. It isnt like some of the books I have read in the past about anxiety and how to help it. This one is written from the heart and you can tell the author knows what he is talking about.

Having lived with anxiety disorder for many years I found this book helpful and made me feel not as alone in my journey owning my anxiety and not letting it own me!!! This was due to the way Julian explained his own battles with anxiety throughout the book.

Full of great tips and helpful ideas it really struck a chord with me. It works in 3 areas. Owning your Body, Your Mind and Your soul.

Thanks to Netgalley and Page Two Books for the ARC. ( My reivew is my own opinion) I will review with 5 stars on amazon once its published.

Likes: Brass definitely knows his stuff when it comes to helping anxiety. Not only are some of these tips easy to do for most people, they also are very helpful. It was nice getting the science backing up all of the tips along with the personal anecdotes that Brass shares from his past experiences. The experiences helped me understand just how each tip worked and how to get there.

Dislikes: The bold quotes interrupted the paragraphs and made me lose my spot fairly often. Maybe this is just a formatting issue with the E ARC? I did like the quotes though. They added a nice touch to the book but they seemed to be in the wrong spot. There were also a few times when the wording of the book got a little too cheesy but overall it did help me figure out how to fix my own anxiety.

Own Your Anxiety is a bit disappointing read for me. There are so many things that can help anxiety and this bookmakers many points. Also medications are a big help to some people.

Over the course of 20 years, I’ve read many books on anxiety. Some have been very helpful and insightful, some have actually made me feel more anxious. Own your Anxiety by Julian Brass is hard to describe. It begins with a gushing and quite frankly unbelievable foreword. In the first chapter, the author states “What if there’s a way to not just survive but to thrive with anxiety? I believe that there is. And I know it’s possible for anyone, because it worked for me.” Quite a bold statement I think. I finished the book thinking all I had done was read a list of his day-to-day life. Nothing stands out to me as a way of helping anxiety. Things such as “don’t park illegally” are not what I look for in a book. The advice may well help Julian own his anxiety but I personally didn’t find it helpful. Of course, everyone is different and might learn a lot from the book. It is well written and I thank NetGalley and Page Two Books for giving me the chance to read it

Own Your Anxiety by Julian Brass is a wonderful collection of practical tips to help lessen your anxiety in a world that doesn't stop moving. From learning how to take a nose-to-belly breaths, ways to move your body and connecting with others. His advice is relatable and attainable and while much of it is simple, it was a great reminder of all the things we can have control over when anxiety can make you feel the exact opposite.

As someone who has anxiety as part of my life, I always appreciate more natural methods of dealing with it. BUT as someone who does many of these things and also takes medication for anxiety, I would think twice about having the line in the introduction about being a "pill generation". While I understand where he is coming from, I think it could be polarizing for a reader. There is enough stigma about medication and his advice is wonderful and helpful without these few sentences.

While I agree that medication should not be the first and only step, it can be a wonderful part of a whole range of self-care for mental health issues. I exercise almost daily, get enough rest, have people in my life who lift me up and support me, I go to weekly therapy, AND I take medicine. All of these things are important and necessary in their own ways but please don't minimize medication because when used properly and under the right care, it can be life changing for anxiety and many other mental illnesses.

Thank you to NetGalley and Page Two Books for an advanced copy of this book.
