Cupid's Match by Lauren Palphreyman is such adorable book. I have to say this book got me hooked from the first chapter. Who wouldn't want to me matched with cupid even if it might cause the end of the world. Great characters you'll fall in love with and a story so good you can't put down. |
Cupid's Match is about a girl, Lila, finding out she's matched with the original cupid, and all the trouble that came with it. It's a fun book filled with romance, friendship, betrayal and a start to a possible love triangle. And the best part, the book is so light that you will easily read it in one sitting. With cliffhangers at the end of every chapter, it's hard to put the book down. I can say that this is one of my favorite reads this year. |
This book was not a winner for me. The premise sounded interesting, but the execution was completely lacking. First off, the formatting was horrendous and made it really hard to read. It wasn't cohesive or neat. And the book really didn't need 61 chapters, it could have used more breaks in the chapter to start a new section instead of 2-3 page chapters. It was excessive and tedious. And there were quite a few editing errors: misplaced words, terms used incorrectly, punctuation missing, etc. For a story created around Cupid, the god of love and matches being perfect for each other, it was certainly lacking the love/being together aspect of it. I would call this a fantasy, not a romance. And I wasn't thrilled at the attempted "love triangle" set up. Actually, I hate that trope. So again, for being about Cupid, there was more tension between Lila and Cal then there was between Lila and Cupid. While the book didn't end on a cliffhanger per say, it was definitely left wide open for another story. I wasn't invested in this one enough to care what happens in the next one. Especially if it goes the way it was hinted at the end. So overall, this just wasn't for me. |
Wattpad books has a tendency to publish romance books and I'm here for it. This one was no exception, and I liked it well enough. The concept really called to me ! A matchmaking agency creating soulmates and Cupid being real ? Count me in ! So... We have Lila, high-schooler who finds herself accidentaly matched with Cupid himself, who just wants to live her life in peace, with her boyfriend James. Poor girl obviously doesn't get to do that, and is forced to join forces with Cal, an employee of the matchmaking service, and Cupid to prevent the original matchmaker to come back and destroy the world. The beginning of the books was a little rough and I think we could get a little more information about what's going on and the world building in general, but I hopped in the story pretty quickly anyway. I still found myself hooked within 20 pages, even if things are a little bit rushed. Honestly I feel so bad for Lila ! She didn't ask for any of the things happening to her and she keeps being taken from one place to another like a doll because of something she has nothing to do with. She's just told that she was matched with Cupid and would she please stay away from him, and then everything comes tumbling down and she has to become involved in a great scheme with mythical characters. As for Cupid, I thought he was a bit too insipid for me. He's the main character and a divinity of love ! Give him more substance, more attractiveness, more character ! He's just running around doing his thing and telling Lila everything will be okay. I just wanted to yell at him to chill and be more divine. He was just so normal... The only one with a little common sense was Cal, who works for the matchmaking agency and that keeps trying to fix Lila's and Cupid's mistakes throughout the whole book. I think he and Crystal (another agent of the agency) might be my favorite characters here. Sidekicks really grasp my attention lately for some reason, and those two were amazing ones ! All this being said, the plot, even though a little basic, was interesting, and the book is fast-paced. I never got bored, and no matter Lila's and Cupid's flaws, I still rooted for them and liked them well enough. Lovebirds always make me happy ! Another thing is while the focus of the book is supposed to be love, there's a whole lot of action at all times and it kept me entertained at all times. It's not just romance where the two main characters will keep flirting and doing lovey-dovey stuff. I probably would have read it even if it was more romance-y, but all the action was a really good surprise. I hadn't known there would be so much, and I'm not disappointed. I thought this would be a good summer read, but it's actually a good every season read. A good action book with a love baseline is enjoyable any time. Bonus points if you like Greek/Roman mythology, as some characters of it can be found here and there through your reading. Thank you Netgalley and Wattpad books for providing me with an e-arc ! |
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. I like an easy and fun paranormal book sometimes. And there is a lot to enjoy in "Cupid's Match". The entire plot of cupids (yes, the creatures!) running a dating service runs right up my alley. And its a unique and quirky idea in a market that is saturated with all things paranormal. This was a cute and fun read but at the same time it didn't deliver anything truly special. The ending was pretty much guaranteed from the start of the story and I hoped there might be a good plot twist or two to change an obvious ending but no. It was well paced and action intensive but I didn't like one of the main characters and the main heroine didn't stand out. I'm excited that this author got a chance to go from Wattpad to fully published novel so obviously many, many people loved this book. It may be a case of 'its not you, its me" here. |

I love this book so much! I loved it when i read it on watt pad and i had know idea it was being published! What a happy surprise! I will be recommending this book to all my friends and family. |
Thank you to Netgalley and Wattpad books for letting me read this! This book follows Lila, a typical teenage girl who goes to high school with her best friend Charlie and boyfriend James. The Cupid Matching Service discovers that Lilas true match is none other than Cupid himself which breaks the companies most sacred policy and threatens the balance if the world as they know it. I found the story of this book to be very interesting and unique, plus i am always a sucker for some mythology in my books. The way that ancient myth was brought into the modern world made a lot of sense but was also creepy af. Can you imagine? A dating service whose seen your entire life? Every embarrassing moment? No thanks! I see that the Wattpad versions of this book makes it a series and if they are still available I will continue on reading and if not I will place the new releases in my TBR. Unclear where the story will go from here but I really enjoyed the idea of this world! I would consider this a YA fantasy more than a YA romance... yes I know it's about Cupids. One thing I didn't like was the size of the chapters and the amount of blank space on each page, and while I realize this is not the final format it still felt like a very minimal amount of words per page for a hardcover release especially, on the chapter pages that were so very frequent. The love story was also central to the plot of the tale and it felt rushed and inorganic to me since a large portion of the text is dialogue you couldn't really feel the emotions you were just told they existed. |
ARC provided by NetGalley. This book has so much potential. It needs editing and formatting something terrible. |
I was given the opportunity to read this novel by Lauren Palphreyman, early in exchange for an honest review. Cupid’s match is a fresh and original take on the supernatural teen romance genre. I loved it, I powered through the whole novel in a matter of hours, unable to put it down without thinking about it. There were lots of unexpected twist and turns throughput the novel that stopped me from putting it down. I was able to easily sympathize with the characters and found myself holding my breath as I cheered on Lila and Cupid every time they were together. There are many times throughout the novel that made my heart swell and many that had me chuckling to myself as I read along. The novel included mythological and historical characters to help move the story along and it was executed seamlessly and enriched the overall storytelling experience. My only criticism of the story is that I would have liked to see more of Lila and James relationship in the beginning to be able to feel the full impact that Cupid had on her. In the end though it does not change the quality of the novel. Other than that one note, I have nothing remotely negative to say about it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the open ended ending that left me wanting more. I will be buying a copy after release to support the author and I am excited for any sequels that maybe released it the future. Keep an eye out on October 1st, 2019 for this lovely novel. Aiden <3 |

This is a cute story. I like the characters. The main characters are funny, smart and sassy. The dialogues are funny. I like the HEA. It has a good pace. The romance is sweet (not r-rated). Would love to read another book by the same writer! :) |
I was pleasantly surprised at this book. I thought this would mostly be about Cupid and Lila falling in love with each other, but the romance really took a back burner to the action and that was really fun. This is geared towards teens and YA (of which I do still technically class myself just barely), but you can't take it too seriously. I think we could have come up with a less ridiculous name for Cupid to be running around school with besides leaving it at Cupid. That was a bit of an eye roll for me. But the drama of trying to keep Lila and her new friends safe, using characters from Mythology, and constant action with just sprinklings of lovey dovey-ness I found to be really the perfect ratio. This book could have gotten soooooo cheesy, but it actually stayed well grounded and fun. I liked the chemistry between Lila and Cupid - it started out quite cheesy with a lot of emphasis on physical responses when their hands grazed each other but when they actually started being able to hold conversations with each other I was convinced at their actual chemistry. Overall, a fun, quick read that I could recommend to a generous age range of (most likely female) readers because there really was a little something for everyone. |
*I received this ARC in exchange for a honest review* I loved this book. It was funny, romantic and addictive. Lila, Cupid and Cal are just those characters you root for. Cupid was adorable and sexy and had me hooked from the first meeting. Cal was that character that surprised you over and over again. I gave four stars because even though it was a good book it felt rushed at the end and it was sometimes during the book it felt rushed. However it was a wonderful and entertaining read and I can't wait to see what else this author is going to write. |
I received a free copy of CUPID’S MATCH by Lauren Palphreyman in exchange for an honest review. Lila Black has a boyfriend, so she’s really annoyed with Cupids Matchmaking Service because it keeps spamming her phone, her email, and even her physical mailbox. When her efforts to stop the spamming by phone, by email, and by mail are unsuccessful, Lila devotes an entire day to travel to their headquarters so she can confront them in person. Lila’s drop-in visit yields unexpected fruit. Lila learns that CMS is run by actual cupids, that the guy they found for her is her fated match, and that he’s the original Cupid. CMS is delighted Lila has no interest in her match because the CMS bylaws forbid all cupids, including CUPID, from making their matches. The only problem is that Cupid knows his match has been found, and he’s coming for Lila. Factions of CMS will do anything to keep them apart. Hi, Lila! Welcome to the world of warring gods and goddesses; I hope you brought your Edith Hamilton. This was a cute book. It had some intense action, dangerous situations, and kissing-level romance. I recommend this book to fans of action-packed paranormal/urban fantasy romance. I liked it. #CupidsMatch #NetGalley |
I wanted to love this book I really did. The first part of the book flew by and the second part drug on forever. It’s like the story had lots of good stuff then got bogged down in so many details it couldn’t get back out again. |
