Cupid’s Match is the cute story of what happens when a human falls in love with Cupid. After receiving a strange series of letters in the mail, Lila goes straight to the source, Cupid’s Matchmaking Service to find out what is really going on and make the letters stop. There she finds out that cupids are actually real, and she hasn’t been matched with another human, but with Cupid himself. But this is actually against the rules, and before she knows it, Lila is in grave danger. With the help of Cal, one of the cupids, Lila is introduced to an entire mythological underworld, as she struggles to stay alive and resist the charms of the one and only Cupid.

This was a fun and light read. I thought it was cute but not very substantial. I enjoyed the touches of mythology that were sprinkled throughout. At first, I thought it would be limited to Cupid, but throughout the book they reveal more and more.

My biggest criticism was over the relationship between Cupid and Lila. There was just no chemistry there and it was not believable at all. The entire thing felt very forced as opposed to organic and destined.

Unfortunately, Cupid's Match didn't really work for me in the way that I was hoping. I"m a big Greek mythology fan, but the mythology is very minimal, and what I was hoping would be a fun YA UF read in the vein of White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout unfortunately feels very forced. I'm not a huge fan of any of the characters, especially the love interest, and I'm not interested in the direction of the plot. I think that many YA readers will still enjoy this as a fun fantasy romance, but I don't think it's the book for me.
I received an eARC of Cupid's Match via NetGalley.

Cupid was a little ruff around the edges and needed a good lesson in how to be a good boyfriend. LOl. This book was cute and suspenseful. I was on the edge of my seat when it came to the ending. The spark in Cal eye makes me think he’s up to something, can’t wait to find out what it could be.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for review.

As someone with a life-long interest in mythology, I'm always on the lookout for a fun new retelling. Most of the time I turn to Rick Riordan for that, but it's definitely refreshing to see a new voice in mythology retellings arrive on the scene.

Cupid's Match puts an unusual, original, and imaginative spin on myth in the modern world. I thought it would be completely romance-oriented, but there's a surprisingly amount of action, and I'm definitely curious to see where the author goes with the sequel.

Cupids have entered the techno age with online dating going to a whole new level. That is except that Lila wasn't a user of the APP had never even heard of the APP and was not looking to start using the APP. Lila was very content with her boyfriend and was not looking for another match of any kind much less, one with the God of Love himself. Apparently Cupid had never been matched in all the years of his existence and if that match takes place it will unleash chaos. So needless to say there are those cupids (little C) who do not want the match to take place and will use anything including various arrows that toy with a person's emotions. Lila is just trying to have a normal life, it is bad enough that she feels a little different plus the loss of her Mom has not been so good on her Dad so she gets to do some of the parenting instead of the other way around. This story will get you when you least expect it as you are carried away with the same emotions that Lila is feeling as she runs for her life, dodging arrows, and trying REALLY hard to not fall for Cupid (big C) who just happens to have that bad boy vibe and an equal attraction. Please let there be a follow up in time for Valentines!! The character development was really good and I found myself going back and rereading passages because of how much I enjoyed it especially the SIM part. Lila is special and deserves her happiness which ever form it takes.

Ah, I loved this! It was exactly the kind of forbidden love story that I needed and it flew by. The characters were lovable and there was just enough of action to keep you on your toes. The concept of it all is so unique and I enjoyed the mythical part of it all.

All in all, such a unique story, I need more!

Cupid's Match is a cute YA novel with an interesting twist on Cupid and Greek mythology. Quick fun read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC to review.
This book surprised me. The synopsis sounded interesting enough, but I found myself enjoying it more than I anticipated. The concept of Cupid finding a human match, and the chaos that follows, was unique to me. I did find the character of Cupid a bit one-dimensional. I won't let this detract too much because the story was fun, well-written, and judging by the information I've found, there's still much more story to tell.
I'd recommend this book if you're looking for a light, enjoyable read.

Overall the book was enjoyable however, I felt like things switched from fast-paced to rushed. Everything falls into place a little too easily, an important character dies off screen without much thought.

Honestly, I like the premise of Cupid's Match, even if it was somewhat cliche. The god of love falls in love? i was on board. The whole idea of matches and pre-destined love also added a supernatural effect to everything, and it definitely piqued my interest.
Things went a little wrong with the characters though. For a love story, all the characters are extremely one dimensional. It's hard for me to believe that three guys are in love with Lila when she has literally no personality. She isn't very good at anything, and her only real character trait is having a short temper and yelling at people. See the problem? Similarly, Cupid is basically just an arrogant jerk, which makes it really annoying when any romantic scene takes place. Why exactly does Lila love him? Who knows. It's not really the biggest deal, but it really rubbed on my nerves because the entire novel was a romance.
The plot is secondary to Lila and Cupid's love story, and it is definitely treated as such. Characters keep coming and going, people keep changing sides, and there are so many battles that have literally no meaning. The story was dragged on waaayyyy to long, especially since most of it made little to no sense. This story could have been much, much shorter and still gotten the point across.
The writing style also felt a little clunky, and a lot of the dialogue felt very awkward. This definitely made it difficult to connect to the characters in any way, since all their movements and words sounded really strange.
Overall, Cupid's Match was supposed to be a light-hearted romantic action novel, but it dragged on quite a bit, and I started losing interest at around the 40% mark. Although it had an interesting synopsis, the plot gets muddled very quickly, and the characters never really come off the page.
SPOILERS:

I absolutely can't believe that Lila ends up with Cupid. She's destined to fall in love with him and she does??? That is hardly an interesting story. The plot should have spent more time exploring her relationship with Cal, as that would really have spiced things up and introduced something interesting into the love story.
Especially since James and Selena (?) cease to exist after they've played their role in the plot, the romantic angle gets really stale really fast. While the story hints at it, it is never really fully explained, and everyone just pretends that those scenes never happened.

This book was a fun, quick and entertaining read! I loved the Roman mythology take and the Cupid’s matchmaking services.
Lila black was a really enjoyable heroine, I really loved the chemistry and back and forth between her and Cupid. Cupid’s sass definitely was on point!
There is so many more stories to tell and I’m really excited to hear them all!
I found that there was a lot going on which kept up the pace really well but also lessened some of the impact of the actions of people.
I love Cal and Crystal and need more of those two for sure!

Wow! This book took a turn. I was thinking it was going to be a cute romance story (it still is) but it was so much more than that! It has romance, action, deception and mystery. I really loved this book and can't wait to find out what comes next.

E-galley provided by Netgalley and Wattpad Books in exchange for an honest review. All quotations and opinions are based off an uncorrected proof.

“Miss Black, we have a big problem…”

The problem is that this book isn’t exactly what the kids call: good. And I would just like to say that I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I enjoy bad books all the time, when they’re actually fun or have any charm to them.

See, this book wasn’t cute, charming, or funny enough to pull off what it was going for and I suppose that’s my biggest compliant. It has this completely cliche, really laughable premise and still takes its self too seriously. It might be the fact that I’m pretty used to Greek/Roman myths being told with a lot of great humor that’s ruined me, but yikes this could have been better.

Lila Black is every stereotypical teenage girl you’ve ever read. There is virtually nothing that makes her at all distinguishable from any of the thousand of teen girl character’s you could ever read about. I had nothing to hold onto from her, she was just lacking all personality.

Cupid himself was a really lack-luster love interest as well. He’s this character that is a walmart brand version of every other paranormal bad boy, but wasn’t even charming? Like- he never said a single witty thing. In fact, he really didn’t do much? Or say much? He’s present in most of the scenes, but never does anything important?

And honestly? If you’re characters have to kiss to show that they are now IN LOVE. (*law and order sound*) Then, it’s not very well-written. Cupid and Lila didn’t like each other and then they did. I couldn’t tell you a single reason why.

To be fair, the events of the book are already starting to blur in my head. No part of the plot stood out to me. I could do a step-by-step walk through of the book and I couldn’t really point out anything that was particularly creative or new. The whole book feels like a flash-back to a period of my life where I just wanted to read YA Paranormal Romance and ONLY that. Back when the trend was “Twilight, but different somehow” and I was living for it.

To be clear, I’m not saying that no one should read this book or that this book is terrible beyond belief. Sometimes, I’m in the mood to read not so great book. Maybe to get over book hangovers or to read something that is so filled with classic tropes you feel like you’ve read it already. I definitely think this book serves a purpose and has the potential to be exactly what someone is looking for.

TL;DR: I didn’t really enjoy this book, but I think that other people can. As long as you like Roman myth, you miss YA paranormal romance circa 2011, and don’t really care if the story is well done or medium. 🙂

Lila took the bus from Forever Falls to L A and found the The Cupids Matchmaking Services. When she got to the receptionist she dumped a stack of letters on her desk. If these people had only answered their phone Lila would not have made the bus trip. Lila said she wasn’t a new client and she was not interested in their service, that they needed to remove her from their mailing list. He5r name tag said the receptionist was Crystal and said she would just put Lil’s name into the computer. The blood drained from Crystal’s face and she told Lila to wait as Lila went to leave, Crystal told Lila she thought one of their agents is best suited to fill her in on the situation. Than Crystal calls Cal. Cal comes out and looks at the computer screen and said” So you’re the girl.” “ Of all the girls in the world to be his match. I must admit your not what I expected. Now, please come with me. We have something very important to discuss. Your very life could beat - . “ Crystal coughs and gives him a warning look. He sighs and asks Lila to come with him. She thinks of just walking out but than Lila’s kinda curious to who they matched her with. As she steps through the door she entera an immensely heptic, open-planned office. Everyone is in a white suit and are stunningly attractive. Than Cal opens a door to a glass walled office. Than Cal told her to take a seat, but his tone of voice is still cold. Lila asked where they got her details and Cal said they had everyone's details there. He added” It’s a different situation. I risk breaking our… our laws by telling you what I am about to tell you.” Than Cal takes a breath and said” We are ,,,, cupids,” “ we match people, we have done so for many centuries.” Lila asked if this was some kind of joke. Cal said unfortunately not. Than he tells her he definitely shouldn’t have a match. It’s dangerous and if he finds out. He then told her he will do anything to get what he wants, he is the original, the most powerful of them all. He is Cupid himself. For a moment Lila wonders if ahew had been brought on reality tv. Than Cal showed her a picture of Cupid. There was no denying, he was good looking, but there was also something familiar about him. Lila said she had a boyfriend- James. Cal told her James wasn’t her match. He was someone else’s match. The cal said “ You don’t believe me… you don't believe anything I’m sayingLila says “ of course I don’t.” he told Lila he had something he had to show her and if she didn’t believe him then , he would personally stop all letters to her. Lila added” And and emails and messages. Cal told her an administrative error had been made. Tomorrow Cupid would start at her HS -Forever Falls High. She hadn’t planned on seeing james today as he had to work, but all the talk of cupids, banished love gods and her boyfriend being matched with someone else had rattled Lila. Even if it was all ridiculous. Her friend Chloe was back but went to the dinner without her. Her and james and Chloe had been friends since kindergarten- it’s not weird she would stop at the dinner without Lila. James had been there for Lila when she lost her mom. The built something based on friendship and trust.
Excellent book, I loved it. I didn’t want to put this down and only did when I had to. This grabbed my attention from the beginning and held it until the very end. I loved Cupid and Lila together and how they interacted. Also how they both tried not to fall for each other. I loved the intrigue, suspense, and action in this book. I loved how a lot of myths were brought alive in this book. It was just a great fun read. I felt bad for James who didn’t want to admit he had feelings for Charlie. I was happy to see both Cupid’s, Cals, and Lila’s growth in this book. I loved the different descriptions the author gave like of the Matchmaking office and the places in the labyrinth, and how Venus physically felt to Lila and so much more. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

3.5 stars

"You turned my life upside down. You've put me in danger. you've put my friends in danger, you've been selfish, and reckless and insanely annoying-but whatever happens, I can't regret that you came. Because I think you helped me find that spark inside of me again."

Fun, entertaining and imaginative. Cupid's Match brings a fresh new take on classic mystical elements, and I can see why this YA Fantasy garnered so much attention on Wattpad before being published. With an intriguing ending that hints at more to come-it had me wanting an epilogue-I'd certainly like to read more in the future.

So, where to start? The idea sounded cute - like a light hearted short romance story but it got a little predictable and was more geared towards middle school age readers. Writing was good and the story was easy to follow but it wasn’t for me.

I tried to finish this book because it was entertaining but in the way where I watch a really dumb television show just to trash it if that makes sense. Sadly, this lost its appeal very quickly and I'm sad to say this was just not the book for me. the writing style was not the best and the characters didn't really have the depth I wanted. Everything felt really superficial and it lost its entertainment value pretty quickly.

This books sounds interesting but it’s anything but. The character building lacks and they are dreadfully boring. Cupid is suppose to be a bad boy, we are only told this but never explained why or shown how. Throughout the entire book, I felt like the characters were just running and never really explained why. There was suppose to be a love triangle but that wasn’t well done either. And we all know how much I love a love triangle. The events that took place really made no sense and were kinda dumb. It was all complete chaos, and not the good kind
