I was going into "Cupid's Match" thinking that it's a romance novel with some mythological aspects (cupids). Yet it turned out to be more of an action and adventure story, which was a pleasant surprise.

The mood was quite light in the beginning and everything seemed clear-cut. Lila is matched with Cupid - the first and most powerful of them all - but she already has a boyfriend and is definitely not interested. Which is good, because if Cupid and Lila were to get together, there would be some mysterious consequences that would ruin the world as we know it. Cupid is dangerous too, and he is searching for his match, so Lila has to be protected and hidden from him. Things escalate with Cupids appearance in Lila's hometown, but here the novel takes a turn. Everything is not as simple as it seems, and could it be possible that there are other forces at work?

I liked these twists and suspense, they made "Cupid's Match" entertaining and easy to read. There were a few reveals that seemed quite obvious and didn't hit the mark for me, but it did not ruin the overall experience. I will be on the lookout for the sequels.

3.5 Stars rounded to 4.

Cupid’s Match by Lauren Palphreyman is a charming, humorous, and entertaining romance fantasy with a fun mythological twist. I found myself laughing a few times, swooning a bit here and there, and just having a really good time. Definitely a quick and amusing tale that enamored me until the end.

The idea of actual cupids running a Matchmaking service hidden in the real world is really intriguing. I knew there’ll be plenty of silliness and humor in the story and I couldn’t wait. While I didn’t completely love this book, I do have to admit… it’s absolutely a unique, quirky and fun read. The pacing is fast and feels rushed from time to time, but it wasn’t bothersome. I thought the writing is easy to follow and engaging. The plot is a bit outrageous and a little predictable, but there’s a few surprises that made the story really enjoyable. I don’t fully understand how the magical system really works, but the world-building is quite fascinating and the mythology aspect is creative and interesting enough. The narrative does get a bit absurd once in a while, the dialogue is sometimes chessy and awkward, the characters are kind of a mess, and the ending seems too convenient. So yes, the execution isn’t always perfect and there are some parts of the storyline that are confusing, but if you allow yourself to just relax, not overanalyze everything, and really enjoy the story for what it is, then you’ll have an awesome time just like I did.

I didn’t feel a deep connection with any of the characters, but I thought they’re all quite adorable and such a fun group. Lila is not always likeable, but she’s interesting and I enjoyed her personality. Cupid is the typical “bad boy” love interest and he definitely charmed me. I don’t think I’m head over heels in love with him, but he’s funny, magnetic, and swoony. Cal is serious, strict, and stony for the most part, but there’s something alluring about him. I was actually more drawn to him than Cupid and I wanted to knock down his walls in order to get to know the real Cal who I think is really sweet, caring, and fun. I like the secondary characters and I thought it was cool how all the cupids have names that begins with the letter “C.” The other mythological creatures are nicely introduced and I’m excited to learn more about them in the other books.

I do like the romance. It is a bit cringy at times and there’s definitely an insta-love/soulmate thing going on between Lila and Cupid, but I enjoyed their chemistry. They made me swoon here and there and I do think they’re cute together. I’m not so sure about the love triangle though and I’m kind of confused as to why it’s even there. I just don’t really like love triangles cause I have to choose one love interest to root for and sometimes, I really do like both while other times I’m in love with the one that doesn’t get the girl/boy.

Hilarious, charming, and surprisingly delightful, Cupid’s Match by Lauren Palphreyman is a wonderfully fun fantasy romance that I'm sure will keep readers amused. While this didn't hit me in the heart with all the feels, I definitely enjoyed the action, the drama, the bantering, the mystery, the intriguing characters, and the over-the-top, but sweet romance. Overall, this is a satisfyingly entertaining book that left me smiling in the end.

If you're looking for some silly fun, a few good laughs, and a story that will lighten your mood, then this book might just be for you.

Lila Black goes to the Cupids Matchmaking Service in order to get them to stop contacting her, after all she never signed up for a dating service and she is currently in a relationship. She never expected to discover that the agency is run by actual cupids and that she has been potentially matched to Cupid, the God of Love. Lila is informed the match must never happen or else the consequences would be...well horrific. Lila finds herself thrown into a conflict between old and new as Cupid will stop at nothing to meet his "match"...and to complicate matters even more he starts at her high school on Monday.

Cupids Match is a cute YA paranormal romance series that offers readers more than just romance. This novel includes several other mythical creatures that get tangled up in Lila and Cupids predicament along the way. There are also cupid assassins, known as the Arrows, who will stop at nothing to keep the match from happening including murder. This novel offers a lot of potential as the series continues. Although I liked the plot and the characters; one of main issues I had was pacing. The first 80% of the book kind of stagnated on why the match couldn't happen...a secret they try to keep from Lila until near the end of the novel. At the last 20% of the book we discover the big secret, end that ARC, start a whole new ARC including more characters, and end on a to be continued... The novel ends with a promise of more romantic troubles. I realize it was trying to set up the next book in the series however, it felt really rushed. The romance is kept very PG but there was a darker element (attempted murder/death, implied stalking, attempted suicide) which may not appeal to all readers. Overall this is a fun new series to check out if you like a little action with your romance.

This book was a fun & interesting look at love. I especially love the characters that played the Cupid. It was rather hilarious how much the Arrows were stickers for the rules. I would 100% recommend reading this book. I love the twist at the end because Lila develops feelings for someone else as well. SPOILER ALERT her father develops feelings for someone again. Which was icing on the cake for the ending! I have to point out some errors out that I found on my Kindle digital copy. Page 452; He flicks his gaze up to mine, his silvery eyes deep and sad. “A l one.” I think you mean "Alone". Page 881; Once we’re inside the new room, the loud throbbing music from outside ceases, replaced by a woman singing a cappella. I believe you meant acapella. Page 1105; But I want to get it moving again. I want to tr y.” I think you meant try at the end of the sentence. Page 1193-1194 “Your grades dropped, you withdrew, and there were even a few accounts of antisocial behavior— apparently we’ve both tan gled with your school quarterback, Jason. I am pretty sure you meant tangled instead of tan gled. Page 1389 “It started to come back to me—being hit by an arrow at the par ty.” I assume you meant party there. Page 1935 On Wednesday, Cal demands that we all meet him the library at lunch, whereupon he dumps a stack of books and papers in the center of the table. I think you need a in after meet him in, it makes more sense. Page 2679 I try to cling to the hope that, while Cal might have betrayed us, Crystal could still be on side; maybe she will help me make my escape. After still be on you need a my or our before the word side. That was all of the mistakes I found. Hopefully, someone can go back & fix them. Otherwise, great book. If there hadn't been so many mistakes I would have given you all the stars.

"What is a fairy tale without a monster to defeat?"

This was definitely a quick guilty pleasure read for me! From the very beginning, the story got me hooked and intrigued. There were moments in the story that made me laugh out loud. However, it certainly needs some more editing and what’s up with Cupid “grinning” every single sentence…? At one point I was just rolling my eyes when I read the word “grin” for him, like does the boy have other expressions than grinning? Also, I appreciate the slow burn at the beginning of the relationship which added some elements of angst but then, I felt the relationship developed so suddenly as well. The length of the story could have been a bit shorter because near the end, it was just dragging and got a bit boring.

In overall, if you’re looking for a quick fun read, I definitely recommend you picking Cupid’s Match up!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book.
As a YA fantasy, it is everything it claims to be. It's full of action, mystery and mythological concepts. Drama concerning friendships and relationships also come into play, but luckily aren't at the forefront of the story. I can see why it had a large following online, and how the author can turn this into a series using the other characters that were introduced at the end.
A lot of fun, and easy to read.

Quick fun read. Love the mythology aspect. Swoonworthy characters, so much more than just a high school love story. So cute.

Thank you for the ARC.

Unfortunately I never really connected to the main character (probably because there was so little description of her, especially in the last 2/3rds of the book... I don’t know if the author still has time to add some descriptions but it would really flesh out Lila).

Also, I never really believed in the love story between her and Cupid (too insta and yes I know he was her match, but even when they fell in Love it felt forced and not natural). This is a personal opinion though. I’m certain many readers will ship them together.

What made my rating gain a star was the ending, which was REALLY good! The pacing was great and the action fantastic.

This was a bit too cliched for me. I was expecting a little more originality.
But, if you want a fluffy book that will take your mind off things, and if you like teen dramas, it's an option.

Thanks a lot to the publisher and NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This story follows Lila, a typical high school student living outside L.A. After being hounded by The Cupid Matchmaking Service, she visits the agency and is told that she is Cupid’s Match. Lila is told that this match puts her in grave danger. No matter what, she must stay away from Cupid and the Match cannot be made. As other cupid’s find out about her, she finds herself in more and more danger, with some of the cupid’s trying to kill her to prevent the Match. Cupid is drawn to her and together they are drawn into a fight for their lives.

Overall, I really did enjoy this book. I loved the banter between Lila and Cupid (and Cal). I love the bones for this story; epic love, a fight for survival, and an all powerful enemy. The teeth of the story brings some really unique pieces. I love that this story is essentially a love story for Cupid, the being responsible for everyone else’s love story. Cupid, unsurprisingly, doesn’t have much faith in true love, but when he meets Lila, his feels being to change. Cal attempts to keep them apart, but fate and circumstance keeps forcing them together. Unfortunately, I don’t think their one on one interactions are enough to really build the suspense of a budding match. If there are any weak points in this book, its the Cupid/Lila relationship build up - I would have liked to see a bit more interaction before everything goes crazy to create some kind of foundation for future, rather than the bits and pieces. The only other complaint I have is the secondary plots - Lila is in school, but she is spending nearly every day and night with Cal and Cupid, but no one questions why a teenage girl isn’t in school or why she is not home at night. Her father is depressed and drinks too much one day and then the next day he is all better - this is a VERY poor representation of depression and grief. Charlie and James have a moment but then James vanishes into the background.

I gave this book a 3/5 rating because I really did enjoy reading it but I do think there are a few holes in the overall tale. However, if there were a second book, I would read it happily because I feel like there is more to the story. Cal has more to tell, as does Charlie. I would like to see them find their matches.

Received this book from netgalley, it was an okay read. Some typos, some switching of tense and all in all was a bit meh. I wanted to love this but I just didn’t. I feel like I want to give this premise to Jennifer L Armentrout or Michelle Rowen and then read it. Not bad but not brilliant.

*SPOILERS*

I originally read this book when I stumbled across it on Wattpad a couple of years ago and swallowed it whole. But honestly, I had forgotten about that until I started reading it again and realized it sounded very familiar.

The book starts off with Lila Black walking into a dating agency, 'Cupids Matchmaking Service,' that had been bothering her all summer and she had a goal of telling them to back off. She had a boyfriend and had no interest in being 'Matched' with anyone. When she gets there she finds out it's not a normal dating agency but is one that is run by the original matchmaker's Cupids. They inform her that she has been matched with someone that was unusual and in their minds impossible.
Cupid himself.

I am a fan of books with a mythological twist. I love the greek gods and seeing them used in writing today.

Things I liked!

There are some very sweet, butterfly inducing scenes between Lila and Cupid further on in the book that made me smile like an idiot. Cupid comes across as a ladies man and that maybe he couldn't care about someone, but it all seems like a front to hide his real feelings.

I have some sort of weird satisfaction that Cupid calls Lila 'Lovebug' and not any of the typical pet names like 'princess,' ' baby,' 'honey,' and so on. And it is much better than her other nickname... 'The Match' haha.

The characters have wonderful senses of humor, seriously, there is nothing worse than the main character... or any character really that can't throw out a good sarcastic comment or joke.

I do like that, for once, the gorgeous receptionist isn't the one that betrays everyone. Usually, she is the one in love with the MC's love interest and tries to destroy everything.

I enjoyed the plot twists near the end, a little predictable but still smart and a good read.

I liked the world-building in the labyrinth. I love the new idea of prison and punishment, no simply sticking them in a cell here. This sounds like pure torture. But I do wish that there were more of their adventures through the labyrinth so we could see what the other myths were tortured with.

The author successfully made us hate Venus from the moment you meet her, which really has you egging on the Main character to kill her annoying ass.

I love that Lila is a strong character, she doesn't need a man to protect her. She can stand on her own two feet. I am always a supporter of strong female leads.

There are some things that bother me about this book though.
One of them is simply that it moves very fast. Lila's relationship with James is terminated very quickly, Cupid and Lila's relationship shoots forward without me feeling much chemistry between them.
I feel more chemistry between Lila and Cal. (Well that was until... ah you will see if you read it)

Second, I'm sorry but I couldn't help rolling my eyes whenever anyone called him 'Cupid.' It doesn't make much sense that I would have this reaction but I feel it would have been better if he was named 'Eros," I guess it all depends on what type of mythology you are looking at.

Third, Lila forgives her best friend Charlie way to easily after she see's her kissing her boyfriend and then after that Charlie tries to kill her. If that were my best friend I would be pretty pissed off haha.

Minor irritations... Why does everyone have such fancy cars? Yes, I understand that they are all thousands of years old and have more money than God - Well they are gods *shrugs* but if they didn't want to raise suspicion, a 17-year-old in high school does not have a Ferrari.

Lila drinks Instant Coffee... Gross. Not a problem with the book but just personal preferences.

I enjoyed reading the book, there was some fast-paced action, (yet I really don't believe they trained Lila enough to rush into battle with the Arrows) and some cute romantic scenes.
I love the twist on mythology and the gods. It's a refreshing take on them and I truly enjoyed it.

What a fun, quick read for a day when you need a laugh! I stumbled across this book on NetGalley and instantly knew this was one I had to add to my shelf. Cupid in modern day, finding his match in a teenager with zero interest in dating him? Sign me up! Being in my late 20s, I still read YA but tend towards adult romance these days. However, I didn't feel like this book had the typical angsty YA feel. Sure, there were moments where the character's hormones clearly were at play, but I also felt like there was a lot of growing up that happened in the story which we can all relate to.

The last thing Lila Black wanted to do on the last day of her summer vacation was take a bus into LA to tell a matchmaking company to stop calling her. But there she was, in front of the Cupids Matchmaking Service, doing just that. Only she gets much more than she expected - not only will they stop calling her, they will ensure she is safe from being matched at all. Because her match is with the #1 Undesirable person in their system - Cupid. Banished long ago for having "extreme" views on affairs with humans, he is not to be matched with anyone, ever, and certainly not Lila. So now Lila is in high school, chaperoned by a cupid of her very own to keep her safe. But what if she doesn't want to be safe from Cupid at all?

I enjoyed this storyline so much! It was unique, had lots of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat, and the characters were all individuals that added their own complexity to the story. Although I was thrown for a loop when I expected Lila to lose her heart in one direction and instead lost it in another. It was all very surprising and sucked me in even more. Cupid was very immature, and I was not all that enamored with him. Instead, I would have personally been interested in Cal and his ever-present moodiness. I like challenges, clearly. Cupid was easy to figure out - he was your stereotypical guy, interested in one thing. Lila knew that, but as they were soulmates, it was hard to break away from such a magnetic attraction.

This book is a few years old, so there have been books since. I am eager to see what direction they go in, as this is definitely a world that could be developed into many more books and spin-offs.

I don’t expect much from Wattpad books. This one surprised me. I can imagine that many people would look at it and talk about how it bastardizes the original mythology of the characters, but I also know that this book would be exactly what some of my teens are looking for. They want a lot of romance and some action without having to read the next big dystopian book to hit bookshelves across the nation.
I felt like there wasn't a lot of definition to the main character. If all you're looking for is a fun story without complex characters than this is totally the read for you, but if you want something that's a bit more character driven, then I would suggest something else.
Overall, it's a good read, but it's a few steps down from being great.
Thanks NetGalley and Wattpad Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a light, quick, and enjoyable read that was entertaining at the time, but did not leave a lasting impression on me as a reader.
Cupid’s Match is a modern representation of Greek mythology with Cupid embodied as a matchmaking service that matches people together that were meant to fall in love. What fuels the plot of the whole book is that Cupid is matched with a human which is a big no no in their world.
I feel like character development in Cupid’s Match was simply okay. I feel like the characters were a bit one-dimensional as the only characters that seem to have any character development or growth are Cupid and Lila and their growth only revolves around their relationship. The rest of the side characters were as hollow as cardboard, as we were given slight cues of who they are as a person, and the rest of the book, the character fails to stray from the “guidelines” set in our first interaction with the character.
I feel like the relationship in this book as cute, it was a bit instalovey, but I liked how the relationship developed throughout the book and it wasn’t like the first 50 pages she fell in love with him. I think this is one of the better developed relationships I have read in books, because though it wasn’t perfect and was cheesy at times, I could see the attraction between the two.
I really enjoyed the world that was set in the book and it was very different from the interpretations of Greek mythology that I am used to. After the creation of Percy Jackson I feel like it was hard to get a creative and fresh take on Greek mythology, but I believe the author did a good job in setting up this world and making it easy but interesting for the reader to understand.
Overall, I believe this book deserved 3 stars, because though it was a light and enjoyable read, there was nothing about it that particularly stood out to me.

at first i was a bit iffy about it being a wattpad story but the story was so well done. the plot for this book was so unique i really enjoyed it.

the title Cupid's Match was pretty self explanatory but what it doesn't tell you is that Cupid's cannot be matched and apparently that's A Very Big Deal. The book follows Lila, a normal teenager that finds out she's been matched with Cupid! Ensue the drama!

this book was such a page turner, i had to keep reading to see what would happen next. it was so exhilarating! all the characters were so great. i loved Cupid SO much, he was so funny.

def recommend this book if you love Cupid and (semi) mythological stories.

This reads exactly as a teen TV drama and actually reminded me of shadow hunters (the show, I haven’t read the book so...)
Very clichéd (honestly, all the clichés)
Stupid decisions by our MC
Forbidden love & of course there’s 2 of them (although poor Cal never got much of a look in)
And paranormal cupids!

But it was pretty enjoyable, trashy (in a good way) pretty funny (love the sarcastic banter!) and quite a fun escape.
So if you love teen drama shows then this is definitely for you.

Captivating, Triumphant, Unique, Hilarious.

I've found another favorite author! I utterly loved this story, completely original, compelling and an absolute fun read. I was engrossed in the story from the beginning. Cupid's Match centers around the main character Lila, she continues to get annoying solicitations from a dating agency. She decides to visit the office in person to get her information off of there database. That's when her life changes, and she's thrown into an unbelievable world with Cupids, arrows, Venus, a Minotaur, and even Sirens.

The writing style flows perfectly into an ending with a heighten climax. I found the love concept relevant to everyday's relationship problems. So not only does the story pull you into a fun reality but there's fighting, good and bad guys, along with a little romance. The unique choice for Cupid, and Venus I found utterly brilliant. Definitely a must read.

This was such a fun and light read! Cupid himself has been love matched, but it turns out that's forbidden.

The story kept me hooked and I finished it in 2 days. The Greek mythology in this book is fast and loose, but it's a fun interpretation.

Although I have a few lingering questions, I still really enjoyed this fun story.

Slightly Spoilery Questions:
(How did the forbidden match get set in motion? Why was Cal angry like ALL the time? Why did Lila like Charlie so much? Why/how did Cupid have a mansion in the middle of a nowhere town he had just moved to?)

This was a really great story. I was immediately engaged in this book and I could not put it down! My only issue was that the ending was not at all good. I was really disappointed by it.
