I rate this book average. Although, there was some good suspense and hidden relationships, it was easy to see who was covering up the past. Although I didn't guess what happened in the end, I could tell those that played a part.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books for the eARC.
In 1989 in the village of Mapledon a little girl goes missing, presumed murdered. Her friend tells the police she saw the girl get into the truck of Bill 'Creepy' Cawley, a man hated and feared by all the villagers. He and his little daughter moved in as outsiders, never fitting in and constantly harassed by the local children. Billy loses his daughter to the authorities and ends up in jail for 30 years for murder.
In 2019 Anna gets a panicked call from her mother, compelling her to return to Mapledon, the 'village from hell' she escaped 20 years ago...Billy is out of jail, will be seek revenge?
We go back and forth in time until we finally come to the final denouement, which is quite the shocker
I had a hard time putting the book down, it's a nailbiter that keeps you up late at night. Definitely recommended!

It’s been thirty years since a play date then ten year old Anna and her friend went on turned into a nightmare. Anna identified the man who bundled her friend into a van as local weirdo Bill Cawley, and even though a body was never found, Cawley went to jail for murder. Now Cawley is free and he wants revenge, because he wasn’t the only involved on that terrible day. Creepy and intense

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

Wow. Did not see the ending coming. This book is like spending the weekend with the creepiest kids in town. It kept me engaged until the end and I never felt like I solved the mystery. Solid four
