The end to this series finally wraps up in this novel. Although I am an enormous fan of James Islington I have to admit that I found my head spinning with this novel. First, the book is BIG. It reminded me of how I used to get lost in big thick fantasy tomes when I was younger. I don't get much of a chance to do that these days, and I really enjoyed this one. I read 700 pages in a little over 2 days! It was an easy book to read, the story moved at an amazing pace, and while the characters were a bit thin they supported the narrative well enough that it didn't really bother me.

The story is sprawling with almost every major character having enormous air time. I found myself comparing the book to the last Avengers movies -- every character had their moment(s) of guts, glory, and humanity.

The book was filled to the brim with twists and revelations. Most of them were fairly predictable, but others again were not, and all of them were perfectly timed. The ending itself was as good as it could be. It was an ending worthy of a trilogy as breathtaking as this one. Too many times have I read a last book in a trilogy to be utterly disappointed. Thank goodness this was not the case. I loved how it all tied together and the ending. Islington did not fail to deliver a brilliant finale to one of the best series I've ever read.
