This one has an unique touch with Garrett and Josie being announcers for their school's baseball team. Each have some issues in their pasts with baseball that are influencing the way they are looking at their futures. I liked the bantering interaction between Garrett and Josie but it does seem to get lost in the drama as the book goes on. I also felt that too many of the characters around Josie had the same issues with being too cautious in everything. Overall this was a fun summer read. Hope to read more by this author.

This review is originally posted on My Bookish Escapades.

It's official. I've just found the cutest, sweetest and most adorable book I'll most assuredly read over and over again.

I've read tons of YA contemporaries so finding one that really stands out is rare. But holy shit, this book was EVERYTHING. I have never loved anything as much as I love this.

Josie and Garrett stole my heart from the very start. The banter, the chemistry, the humor- it was everything I needed. I mean, yes sure, I understood next to nothing about the baseball stuff but the way the author wrote about it? The way Garrett's passion and love for it oozes through the pages? The way Josie makes it seem so exciting even when she keeps on saying she hates it? It made me want to know everything there is to know about baseball. I now believe you can love something without even understanding it. Because man, do I LOVE baseball now. And yes, I now have a new appreciation for sports broadcasting.

Not only did this wonderfully heartfelt book put the biggest smile on my face, it also made me fall madly in love with its amazing cast of characters, addictive writing and obsess over two perfectly matched characters with intoxicating chemistry.

I honestly don't know what else to tell you but trust me when I say you should absolutely, most definitely read this. (And then we can swoon over Garrett together. Because holy shit I AM IN LOVE.)

Can we get Mai's book next please??

I received an e-arc via Netgalley to read and review.

In need of a color commentator for the high school baseball games, Garrett Reeves is at a loss. Until Josie Walters literally storms into the broadcasting booth and his life. Sarcastic, smart, and quick, she's exactly what he's been looking for. Too bad she doesn't want anything to do with him or the sport.

Josie Walters lost her smile for baseball a long time ago.

So when Garrett Reeves starts hounding her to say yes to being his broadcast partner, his talk of baseball brings with it memories that Josie would soon rather forget. But Garrett is persistent and realizing that the gig could benefit them both, she agrees.

Even easier than transitioning back into the game is her instant connection with Garrett and how well they mesh and flow in the booth and as the games heat up, so does the chemistry between the two.

But Josie is guarded for a reason when it comes to baseball and when Garrett gets an opportunity to get back onto the field, life is seemingly about to repeat itself, leaving Josie a casualty in its wake once again.

I absolutely, positively adored Announcing Trouble! When the writing is so clear and vivid that you can see the movie playing in your head as you're reading, I am there for it all day.

Josie is such a great character. She's understandably guarded, but she doesn't whine about it or beat you over the head with her "feelings". She's a head strong, mature senior in high school who has post-graduation all planned out. So she's obviously thrown when realizing that Garrett has become a factor in her future and finds herself at a crossroads with what she truly wants in life and forces her to put herself out there.

Garrett made himself at home immediately - with Josie, on my favorites list, and in my little YA heart. Even though he was a high school senior athlete with a side of cocky, he was so charming, sweet, and passionate! The lengths that he went to to fight for Josie were absolute perfection to his character and endeared me to him tenfold. More of him, please and thank you!

The messages behind the story - fighting for what you want, taking risks, and living life without fear of what life may bring were tremendous and seamlessly woven into the plot.

Also loved the fact that even though this is a high school contemporary with angst and how those can be hella loaded with pettiness, childish behaviors, mean girls, unnecessary drama, etc.,etc...welp! There is none to speak of here! And while those have their place, it wouldn't have worked here. And the story's not boring! How amazing is that?! Ya'll, this might be the most mature contemporary I've ever read and that is a huge, shining compliment!

Announcing Trouble certainly threw me a curveball as I was not expecting to love it as much as I do! If you need a break from the mind-numbing repetitiveness cycle that today's contemporaries can often fall into in favor of substance and meaning, this is your new jam!

I really loved his book. Josie and Garrett were well developed characters and the banter between them was really entertaining. The plot itself was also really good with Josie undergoing personal development to overcome her hatred of baseball players and face her feelings of abandonment from when her Dad left her and her Mum to pursue the baseball big leagues.

Overall this was a fun and entertaining read that dealt with building trust and overcoming past traumatic events to move forward. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a light read with substance, humour and banter.

FIVE stars and here’s why:

This YA book is the perfect summer read. Total book hangover – read it in one afternoon! The pacing was excellent, the characters -including the secondary ones - well developed, and the back-story believable and relatable, which is key in the young adult market. If you like sweet, sexy guys who fall for sassy, savvy girls, and a story that resonates with you for a long time after, then this book is for you! Highly recommend.

this was the perfect summer book!! it was so cuuuuuute!!!!! i loved everything about this book!!!!!!!!!

"Announcing Trouble" follows Josie, who hates baseball for personal reasons, and Garrett, an injured baseball player, as they work together as broadcasters.

every single character was so perfect i was honestly surprised i didn't dislike anyone... garrett was SO SWEET it was so frustrating how much josie denied her feelings. the way josie kept thinking everyone was like her dad was so frustrating i'm so glad she finally (kinda?) worked out her issues.

i'm such a sucker for teen romances they warm my heart. i'm definitely gonna be thinking about this book for a while.

3.5 Stars

Josie's dad is a baseball player who chased major league success throughout her entire childhood, and he ended up leaving her and her mom behind because making it to the bigs meant that much to him. Since he left, Josie has avoided anything at all to do with the sport. But then her best friend talks her into being her wing woman at one of their high school's baseball games, and Josie overhears the students doing the announcing and commentary. One of them is pretty good, but one is just embarrassingly terrible so Josie steps in and takes over. It turns out that despite her best efforts to erase everything about her dad and his betrayal, she remembers everything he ever taught her about the game he chose over her. And she and the main announcer, Garrett, put on a great show together. He's the team's injured pitcher who turned to commentating as a way to stay in the game until he makes his comeback. He's handsome and cocky and way too charming for his own good and there's no way she'll fall for any of that and make the same mistakes her mom made with her dad. Garrett is chasing the same dream her dad was. She needs to keep her distance and protect her heart. But when a broadcasting competition gives her the opportunity to announce at a Arizona Diamondbacks game (meaning she'd make it to the bigs when her dad never did), she just can't resist...the gig or the guy. Will trying trying to beat her father at his own game mean breaking her heart all over again?

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I've read some YA sports romances that are kind of wooden, but the characters felt genuine and real here. I liked all of them. Josie's best friend, Mai, especially had a hilarious personality with quirks that were memorable and endearing. I do wish we'd gotten to know more about some of the guys on Garrett's team...they weren't as well-developed.

There's more to this book than just baseball, too. Josie and Garrett are both dealing with a parent disappointing them and all the ways that has affected their relationships with others. They're also trying to decide who they want to be in the future...who they "should" be or who they MUST be. They both have a lot of options and making concrete choices and taking steps towards one path means stepping away from another, which can be scary. I liked that this book was more than the romance and more than the game. It was about real life, too.

This was a fun read by Amy Fellner Dominy! I'm hopeful she might follow up with a second book about Mai's journey in college (hint, hint!).

This book was literally every single thing that I love about YA romance.

It. Was. Adorable.
And sweet.
And heartfelt.
And emotional in a way that I wasn’t really expecting, but that deeply resonated with me.

I was won over immediately by the banter. These are smart, funny, wholly relatable characters. I loved the chemistry between Josie and Garrett. I loved the way they connected and the authentically playful way they flirted, teased, and inevitably fell for each other. I loved how, even when I wanted to give them a good shake, I felt their conflict in my heart. I hurt for them and cheered for them and – not going to lie – swooned like crazy over them.

It's not even all about the romance. I also loved the way friendships were portrayed here. Some of the sweetest moments occurred between Josie and Mai. I love a strong sisterhood more than anything and these two were the best.

I smiled so hard for almost this entire story. It’s engaging and smartly written and honestly? It felt like good old fashioned YA romance perfection. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend!

Garrett doesn't mind going in for the kill, "...and you have nice eyes. Except when you and you get these weird slash marks between your eyes.” He points. “Yeah. Like those. I love the vintage tees, but your sandals are hideous. We’ll cut those out of our publicity photo.” I liked this book, I loved the banter between Garrett and Josie and all of Garrett's charm.
