The Truth About Cowboys by Lisa Renee Jones is a great cowboy romance. I love this author and she never disappoints. This is Jason and Jessica’s story and the chemistry between these two is off the charts. I love the relationship Jason has with his grandmother and what a matchmaker she is. I loved the book and highly recommend it.

**4.5 but not quite 5 but really really close strangers to hate to combustible attraction to hate to friends to hate to .......!!!!

I don’t really know what to tell you that I expected going into this book, but what I got was a glorious feel-good, emotional, passionate and humorous journey of two people brimming with so much heart I just could not get enough!

From the very beginning I was hooked! I loved Jason but for me, Jessica stole the show. Her character was so perfect for not only Jason, but for the story. This chic! She was willing to do anything and everything to grab life by the (you know what). She was adaptable and that’s exactly what Jason needed in his life. This guy! Man, he frustrated me to no end most times but his damn heart was so big I couldn’t stay annoyed for very long! I could wax poetic to you for a long time about this journey, but you really need to experience it without prejudice. So I’m not gonna tell you a thing about the plot, except it’s busy for sure LOL (in a good way!)

I will say this, this was a 5+ star read for me until I just couldn’t handle the push/pull between Jason and Jessica anymore. It was a lot. Too much in my opinion. The plot had enough story in it that it did not need so much conflict between them. It pulled me from my cloud nine haze of wonderment every damn time it happened, UGH!

BUT LISTEN, this story is glorious. I promise. Go forth and #oneclick. Seriously. Do it now.

If you have read any of Lisa Renee Jones' books you know they tend to be romantic suspense which she is a QUEEN at writing but this is something different, there is no suspense here. Jessica that needs to get out of the city after catching her fiance in a compromising position with his secretary, so she rents a small cottage in the country far enough away she knows she won't be running into him. Well, there is only one problem with that, and no it isn't that someone is chasing her - like I said not a suspense, this is a contemporary romance - the problem she has is Jason Jenks the cowboy she can't help but keep running into.

You know once you swear off men its like the universe laughs at you because they put the perfect person right in front of you, but what if that person has sworn off women as well? WELL I'll tell you it leads to a whole lot of sexual frustration....I mean chemistry, lol.

I loved Jason and Jessica together but I really loved Jason's grandmother, Martha. Martha was the best! She's the grandma everyone wants. Jason and Martha's relationship was wonderful and loving and so very special, he'd do just about anything for his grandmother and the same went for her.

This was wonderful start to the TEXAS HEAT Series and I cannot wait for the next book. If you enjoy Cowboys, and honestly who doesn't, you'll want to grab a copy of this book I honestly don't think you'll be disappointed at all.

Happy Reading!!

Loved this total opposites but so right for each-other couple. Their journey was so emotionally thrilling and exciting to read.

Jessica, a high-powered divorce attorney, has just had the worst day of her life. After discovering her fiancé with his secretary and then placed on leave for calling a client a lying cheater, Jessica leaves Dallas. Jessica makes a hasty decision to rent a cabin, in the middle of the country, in Sweetwater, Texas. On her way to the cabin, her car gets stuck in the mud and she’s “rescued” by a gruff cowboy. Although she is drawn to the cowboy, she secretly wonders if he’s an axe murderer. She’s drawn to him, but his mistrust is off-putting. Then, she gets a good look at him and realizes who he is...

Jason has no use for a city girl like Jessica. He’s lived the city life and doesn’t want the reminders of what he was forced to leave behind. After suffering the tragic loss of his parents, Jason leaves MLB to return to Sweetwater and the ranch he grow up on. The ranch that is secretly struggling to stay afloat. Even after putting his life savings into the ranch, Jason’s barely able to pay his employees. A return to his MLB pitching career would solve his financial situation, but he vows to never leave his grandma behind again.

Between Martha’s crazy antics, Kelly the hairless cat, and the banter between Jason and Jessica this novel is a hilarious mess! I loved Jessica’s strength, determination, klutziness, and inability to cook. I liked that she wasn’t whiny and didn’t take crap from Jason. She endeared herself to him, tearing down his walls and becoming the best ball girl a pitcher could ever dream of. Jessica’s faith in Jason propelled him to overcome his fear of failure and take a chance on living again. I loved his plans for the ranch and his yoga, match-making granny! The best in opposites attract stories! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

Have you ever needed to just get away from your life?  May it be a vacation or completely move to a new town just to start over.  Well, Jessica definitely had a need to disappear from her current life to clear her mind and renew her purpose.

She's in the process of writing a book about divorce and living off her book advance.  Staying in a cabin in small town Texas seems like the perfect place to get her book written and heal from the hurt her ex-fiance caused.

What she didn't expect in her oasis is for the owner of the cabin to want to toss her out every chance he gets.  Jason is determined to get the city girl out of his cabin and out of his town.  City girls are nothing but trouble and he's determined to live by that mantra.  Only Jessica is not what he expected.

Have you ever had an expectation, preconceived notion of someone, if you will and then it turns out to be completely opposite from what you thought.  Well, Jason definitely needed correcting and so did Jessica.  Their thoughts about each other are quite funny and sometimes not far off base.

As usual, Author Lisa Renee Jones wow's us with her creativity.  This is not your typical cowboy story.  It's sweet, funny, and you'll fall in love with Jason's Grandmother the moment you meet her in the story.

This was my first Lisa Renee Jones's book. This is a great cowboy romance, and sports romance. I loved it. Jessica and Jason's story is sweet, fun, and beautiful. I love their slow burn story. Martha, Jason's Grandma, is a great and fun character. I enjoyed reading this story. Now, I'm looking forward for more books written by this author.

THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS by Lisa Renee Jones is the 1st book in the Sweetwater series. This is Jason and Jessica's story.
This is a sweet and funny story that tugs at your heartstrings. I found Jessica and Jason to be wonderful and engaging characters that kept me hooked on their entertaining love story. I will say the back and forth bickering got to be a bit much at times but overall, great first start to a new series.

My Rating: 4.5 stars ******

The Truth about Cowboys is the first book in the Texas Heat series by Lisa Renee Jones. I have read around ten books written by Lisa and I have to say this one is my favorite! I could stare at the cover all day. But, that’s not only reason. I loved the characters and their banter.

Jessica had to run. Runaway from her life in Dallas. The one she thought at one point was the one she wanted. Almost partner in her law firm. Almost engaged. It was an almost life and now she was going to the middle of nowhere to write a book and to find herself in the process. What she didn’t expect was him. An asshole cowboy with so much swagger it both pisses her off and turns her on. She wasn’t here for a rebound. She wasn’t here to find love. She was here to learn to be alone. But what if? What if she just had a little fun? It’s not like he would care when she left.

Jason knew she was trouble from the moment he saw her on that country road. She was a city girl with attitude. He had a city girl once and he was not about to go there again. He was back on his family ranch to take care of business and his grandma. That was it. Then she had to go and rent a cottage on his land. He definitely knew she was a pain in the ass. One he wanted to get behind...no, he definitely couldn’t go there. No distractions. And she was a big one in a small package.

I loved this one!!! Jason and Jessica might be cowboy and city girl but they both know the feeling of not knowing what’s next. She was there to find herself and maybe she was also there to kick Jason’s ass in gear and find himself. Together, these two have the best hate/love/lust banter. It made me swoon, get hot and bothered and mad. That’s what arrogant cowboys do, right?

Overall...it’s my favorite Lisa Renee Jones Book to date and I can’t wait for the next one!! Who is it going to be!? I really have no idea and I am excited about that.

Quotes:

“Jessica and I need to have some girl-talk time.” Jason doesn’t accept the invitation to leave.
“Grandma—”
“Grandson,” she counters, leaning on the island to fix him in a stare. “Go. Or we’ll start talking about PMS and cramps. The next thing you know, you’ll be doing a tampon run for us.”

“I can’t give you proper, Jessica. If that’s what you want—”

“I’ll walk you to your truck,” I suggest.
His lips quirk. “I don’t have time to pull you out of the mud.”
“I told you. I only fall on Tuesdays.”

The Truth About Cowboys is the first book in Lisa Renee Jones new Texas Heat series. Divorce attorney Jessica had her life in order. She was a high power, high demand attorney that would soon be offered a partnership. That is until she walked in to find her equally high power almost fiancé in a very compromising position with his secretary. She also learns he has tapped her savings account almost wiping her out. Not herself when she arrives at work, Jessica may have made a few choice comments about a thieving, cheating client, at least enough to be put on a six week leave of absence.

Now she has left the condo she shared with Craig. Thanks to an offer to write a how to book as a guide to divorce she has some future income to count on, now she needs a quiet place to work. Jessica goes on Zillow to find a small home to rent and finds a rural retreat offered by a sweet older lady named Martha. Leaving the hotel where she has been staying, Jessica heads to Sweetwater, Texas, on a rainy evening. Between the rain and the dark, Jessica can barely see the road as she follows her GPS to her destination.

A ditch, a puddle, a broken heel, and a pour down prove to be her introduction to her new landlord’s grandson, retired pitcher Jason Jenks. His immediate reaction is to try to throw her off the property. He has had it with city girls and does not trust that she isn’t just another city person there to dig up salable information. But Jason’s Grandma Martha is quite taken with the new tenant and he would do about anything to bring that smile to Grandma as the anniversary of his parents’ death approaches.

However, the sparks that fly between Jessica and Jason are not of repulsion but of attraction. As the weeks go by, Jessica becomes more comfortable in her new place, working slowly on her book, but developing a strong relationship with Martha quickly. And along with this new relationship, things are rapidly changing between Jessica and Jason even though they are each working on their own trust issues.

This is a lovely story of two unlikely people coming together in most unlikely ways to help each other heal while also helping each other to realize their dreams. I enjoyed this book with its rich characters and setting and do recommend it,

Oh Jessica and Jason gave us quite a ride.
Jessica is a scorned divorce attorney and big city gal that just found out that her boyfriend was a cheat. She wants out of town and quick. She books a bugalow from a little old lady in Texas on a ranch and off she goes on her adventure . Jason is a stoic moody cowboy that gave up his life of baseball when he lost his parents. Now he is running a ranch and can be quite the big and brooding bear of a man . When Jessica finds herself broke down on the side of the road she is grateful for any assistance for the locals . When this tall handsome man stops she thinks that she may have a knight in shinning armor but no it is our cowboy Jason. This tale is about to take an interesting turn!! They have a knack for crazy banter and never see eye to eye but that is what is going to make this couple more interesting as we watch their realtionship unfold !

This is the first book I've read by this author (I know...I've clearly been living under a rock), and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I wasn't sure I would like Jessica as the book began, but I quickly realized that she was actually a country girl at heart and was out of place as that big-city lawyer in high-heel boots. She grew on me very quickly. As a Texas girl, and a huge baseball lover, I was swooning over Jason just from the book description. I just knew I'd love him. And I did, but he took longer to grow on me. I wanted to whack him upside the head many times over for the way he acted toward Jessica. He has his reasons, though, and I understood that and thought both characters developed at a very realistic pace. I loved the secondary characters in this one as well and will look forward to the next book set in Sweetwater!

A sincere thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing an ARC for review.

i think i finally figured out that i dislike books with nosy family members who know more than one of the lead characters and does stuff for their own good. the truth is, if anyone in my family ever dared treat me like i didn't know my own mind and wasn't able to make my own life choices i would lose my shit like whoa. i don't even have words for how angry that makes me.

which is to say, that when the truth about cowboys starts off with the hero's grandmother having rented out his office/cottage without his consent or knowledge because she knows what's good for him. it wasn't the greatest start.

this isn't to say that this book isn't enjoyable. jessica and jason are both compelling characters, the chemistry between them is palpable. it's just this whole set up is not for me. every time some secondary character stuck their nose in between the two leads i was shaking my head in frustration.

**the truth about cowboys will publish on august 27, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (amara) in exchange for my honest review.

A bit of a change in style for this author but still a well written story. The topic of cowboys might put you off but let me say that it isn’t about roping steer and riding horses all the time. This cowboy used to play baseball and has now come back to his hometown.

Jessica is a soon to be former divorce attorney turned author of a how-to divorce book that has yet to be written. After leaving her job after some unfortunate events, she find herself renting a cabin in the woods where she plans to pen the advice.

Jason comes to her rescue on the dark and rainy night that she arrives in town, only to find that she has rented his office/cabin without his knowledge or permission. Enter the nosy grandmother and the wonders of listing any piece of real estate for rent.

These two are always at each other except when they aren’t. An entertaining story of two strong willed individuals who eventually figure out what they want and need from each other!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When Jessica rents out a cabin where she can get away from her city life, her cheating ex, where she can clear her mind, she doesn't think a hot cowboy will be the real owner of the cabin. Nor does she think she'll come to love that hot (but rude) cowboy!

The Truth About Cowboys is equal parts funny, sexy AND frustrating. I say frustrating because the push and pull between Jessica and Jason is...well, frustrating. He really is the asshole cowboy, I gotta say. He's so quick to accuse, so quick to judge, and he takes it all out on poor Jessica. I do like how she gives as good as she gets, though, but honestly, I kinda thought she was too good, too easy-going, for him. She deserved better. But their chemistry was smokin', the story was fun and witty, and Jason's Grandma was the absolute star of the whole story!! I freakin' love her! Also *hint hint* I thought Roarke (Jason's friend) was really interesting. If his story is next, I will be 1-clicking it in a heartbeat!

Granny has a plan and darn tooting she intends to see it come to fruition!
This was such a fun read.

The cast was colorful with a solid story line that had me laughing and sighing form the opening scene to the closing HEA.

Right out the gate, I was invested in Jessica. Her life was like a domino parade - one hit after another and they just kept coming. Her tenacity though was something else. I think she needed the edge that battling with Jason gave her to keep her mind occupied as well as the comfort that Martha provided to keep her from feeling alone and lost.

Jason is just a stubborn old cowboy! I get life threw him a few curve balls but IMO he is wallowing in a bath of ick that is his own making.

This two definitely provided hours of amusement
And the friction between them - blazing!

Jason is a cocky ex baseball player turned cowboy. Jessica is a divorce attorney turned author from the city. She is at the cabin on Jason's ranch to recharge and write her book after she caught her ex fiance with his secretary. Jason's grandma rented the cabin to her without telling him. The couple have a love-hate pull toward each other. With steamy sex scenes, fighting and a cowboy you can't go wrong with this romance.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.

3 stars. The Truth About Cowboys was a pretty good book, although it's not my favorite book by this author. This is Jessica and Jason's story. Jessica is a successful divorce lawyer who catches her fiance sleeping with his secretary. She snaps at work, calling her VIP client a cheater, and getting put on a leave of absence. Jessica leaves the big city of Dallas and moves to a small, country town to regroup. There she plans to write a book on divorce while renting a house on a ranch. But things go sour as soon as she gets to town with a rental mix up, a jerky cowboy, bad weather, mud and car trouble. Jason is the grandson of the home owner of the house that Jessica rents. He is a former pro baseball player who quit playing to run the family ranch. He is a big jerk to Jessica, as he holds some preconceived notions about her based on his past experiences with "city girls". Yet sparks still fly between them every time they meet. They manage to become friends and then lovers despite their differences.

The Truth About Cowboys is a different writing style than Ms. Jones other work. I normally really enjoy her signature soapy, emotional style. But this book was totally different. There is much more dialogue, but less emotion and internal thoughts. I would never guess that Ms. Jones wrote it. I kind of hope that she goes back to her previous style. It took me quite a while to get used to this new style and begin enjoying the book.

Jason and Jessica have a volatile relationship. Their relationship is enemies to lovers. The two of them fight for the entire book. Jessica starts to like Jason, but he pushes her away many times and hurts her over and over. I thought he was a jerk a lot and felt bad for Jessica. There is little relationship progression until the end of the book. It's one step forward, one step back. They fight, have a truce, become friends, rinse, repeat. Through most of the book, they don't want to like each other, they judge each other harshly, and they can't imagine a future together. All of that lasts until past 95%. Then the ending felt too rushed. Jason's apology for his behavior was weak. I had a hard time believing that their HEA was permanent and that they were finished fighting.

Overall, though, this book was entertaining and a fairly easy read. I enjoyed the small town, Texas feel and the fun side characters. I really liked Jason's grandmother and her sweet relationship with Jessica. I also enjoyed Jessica's character progression from a cynical divorce lawyer to a romance author who is open to love. While this book was kind of a mixed bag, I enjoyed quite a bit about it, even if the relationship progression fell short for me. I was entertained by the book and I can see the potential for other stories if this becomes a series. I am still a fan of Ms. Jones and look forward to what she comes up with in the future!

Jason is running his ranch he best he knows how and never considered renting his grandmothers cabin out, especially to a city girl. Needless to say when he came upon a city girl in her high boots saying she's there to rent the cabin he doesn't believe her. What a way to start right?

Jessica wants a quiet place to write and she can't do that in the city where her ex-fiance is. These two are explosive together and so much that they don't know about one another. Trust is in short supply for these two they don't have the best track records when it comes to ex's.

Will these two learn to trust each other before it's too late for one of them to say enough is enough?

I loved Jason's grandma Martha! She was funny and made me laugh and I just wanted to hug her. I was totally waiting for a cookie recipe! I loved this book and can't wait for the next book in the next series.
