The Truth About Cowboys was a great 5 star read and book one in the Texas Heat series.

Jessica is a city girl and divorce lawyer looking to get away for awhile. She found out that her ex has been sleeping with his secretary and getting away sounds perfect. She has rented a cabin in the woods to work on writing a book. On the way to the cabin it’s rainy and dark and her car breaks down. When a cowboy stops to help her, she’s not really sure he’s there to help her.

Jason meets Jessica not once but twice. The first time he helps her when her car is broken done and the second time he sees her she is in his cabin, he accuses her of being a squatter which didn’t go over well. When Jessica mentions Martha, it dawns on him who she rented the cabin from. Jason has given up his baseball career to run the family farm and take care of his grandmother.

There was something familiar about Jason but Jessica just couldn’t place where she had seen him. The bickering between these two had me LOL at times. I really liked Martha, she was great and reminded me of my grandmother. This was a great enemies to lovers read, as these two spent time together they grew closer. Can these two let their walls down and have a HEA?
I can’t wait to read more from this series, 1-click and get started today.

The Truth About Cowboys by Lisa Renee Jones is a bit of an enemies to lovers romance. City girl Jessica needs to getaway after finding her ex in a compromising position. She decides to write a book, or two. Jason is an ex-professional athlete who could be cold and distant. After being burned himself, he is not the kind to let someone in so easily, much less another city girl. They were both hurting and had a lot of push and pull between them throughout the story.

Happy reading!

I really enjoyed the give & take interactions between Jessica & Jason. The constant fighting to cover up the deeper feelings & the fear of getting hurt. The story is really made by Martha’s setups & comments. She’s trying to be a matchmaker. She’d like to get Jason back into baseball because she thinks it’s what he wants. This story has exquisite, fast paced banter that keeps you on your toes. A divorce lawyer & a former baseball player turned cowboy - who thought that combination would be so hot & perfect!

Such a different setting from the usual LRJ but just as great. These two had such a sweet love hate relationship that had so much steam built into it. I loved the relationships she had outside of just theirs. Great read!
I received an ARC for an honest review.

I have had some personal issues that have been keeping me from being able to truly get into a book lately. This is my first book by Lisa Renee Jones and I'm disappointed because I was not able to get into it. I'm not faulting the book for this and I liked it enough that I hope to give it a re-read when I'm in a better head space.

Jessica had the perfect life in the big city until, as if by magic, she loses everything.
To find herself and find out if she could be a real romance writer, she goes to town in the country, and starts with no luck having a serious problem with her tire.
Far from finding the love of her life in the gentleman's person who helps her change the tire, in fact, she finds a headache.

Jason and Jessica were opposites, sometimes unnerving, but oddly enough, he was present every time she needed help.
And as she seeks the truth about cowboys, and tries to write a book, the explosive chemistry between them is present.

A nice plot, but I didn't connect with the couple, and some situations found their attitude really really unnerving.
3,5 stars

I REALLY liked this one!!!!! Hero is an ex-professional baseball pitcher and a cowboy sure is an interesting combo! Gah! The "Meet Cute" between Jessica and Jason is so stinking cute its enough to make me laugh even though I will say the broken car scene has happened quite often in romancelandia, but Lisa does make it a bit fresh. I was glad for how much depth the story and characters had. The story just flowed very well. Lisa sure knows how to write descriptive scenes that I felt like I was already there. Sign me up for the next standalone!

**4.5 but not quite 5 but really really close strangers to hate to combustible attraction to hate to friends to hate to .......!!!!

I don’t really know what to tell you that I expected going into this book, but what I got was a glorious feel-good, emotional, passionate and humorous journey of two people brimming with so much heart I just could not get enough!

From the very beginning I was hooked! I loved Jason but for me, Jessica stole the show. Her character was so perfect for not only Jason, but for the story. This chic! She was willing to do anything and everything to grab life by the (you know what). She was adaptable and that’s exactly what Jason needed in his life. This guy! Man, he frustrated me to no end most times but his damn heart was so big I couldn’t stay annoyed for very long! I could wax poetic to you for a long time about this journey, but you really need to experience it without prejudice. So I’m not gonna tell you a thing about the plot, except it’s busy for sure LOL (in a good way!)

I will say this, this was a 5+ star read for me until I just couldn’t handle the push/pull between Jason and Jessica anymore. It was a lot. Too much in my opinion. The plot had enough story in it that it did not need so much conflict between them. It pulled me from my cloud nine haze of wonderment every damn time it happened, UGH!

BUT LISTEN, this story is glorious. I promise. Go forth and #oneclick. Seriously. Do it now.

If you have read any of Lisa Renee Jones' books you know they tend to be romantic suspense which she is a QUEEN at writing but this is something different, there is no suspense here. Jessica that needs to get out of the city after catching her fiance in a compromising position with his secretary, so she rents a small cottage in the country far enough away she knows she won't be running into him. Well, there is only one problem with that, and no it isn't that someone is chasing her - like I said not a suspense, this is a contemporary romance - the problem she has is Jason Jenks the cowboy she can't help but keep running into.

You know once you swear off men its like the universe laughs at you because they put the perfect person right in front of you, but what if that person has sworn off women as well? WELL I'll tell you it leads to a whole lot of sexual frustration....I mean chemistry, lol.

I loved Jason and Jessica together but I really loved Jason's grandmother, Martha. Martha was the best! She's the grandma everyone wants. Jason and Martha's relationship was wonderful and loving and so very special, he'd do just about anything for his grandmother and the same went for her.

This was wonderful start to the TEXAS HEAT Series and I cannot wait for the next book. If you enjoy Cowboys, and honestly who doesn't, you'll want to grab a copy of this book I honestly don't think you'll be disappointed at all.

Happy Reading!!

Lisa Renee Jones' new standalone takes a departure from her billionaire romance and enters the world of small-town life and cowboys.  Jessica is a successful divorce attorney in Dallas but when she finds her fiance in bed with his secretary then curses out her firm's top client, a sabbatical is in order. She finds a quiet cabin in the country to lick her wounds and regroup.  Little does she know that the cabin that she rents doesn't exactly belong to the little old lady that she spoke to.  It belongs to rancher Jason, who is none too happy with what his grandmother has done nor with Jessica.  The two battle it back and forth as their feelings grow. Feelings neither of these world-weary people want to admit.

An enemies to lovers story, The Truth About Cowboys has several light-hearted moments courtesy of Jason's grandmother.  The characters are relatable once you learn what makes them tick, thought with Jason that is further into the story that it should be, making him mostly unlikable for about half the book.  Jessica and Jason go after each other regularly as they fight their chemistry and each can get quite defensive.

Overall this was a good read that perhaps went a bit long on the fighting the feelings stage with the characters both extremely headstrong and completely stubborn.   I would have liked to see them opening up about their feelings a bit sooner in the story but enjoyed this book just the same.

Even when Lisa isn’t writing intrigue mystery, she pulls me right in with her characters.
I fell pretty hard for swoon worthy Jason and quirky Jessica.
Their interactions had me laughing and even crying. I felt every part of the story. Sweet and endearing! Can’t wait to read more of this series.

Jessica, a high-powered divorce attorney, has just had the worst day of her life. After discovering her fiancé with his secretary and then placed on leave for calling a client a lying cheater, Jessica leaves Dallas. Jessica makes a hasty decision to rent a cabin, in the middle of the country, in Sweetwater, Texas. On her way to the cabin, her car gets stuck in the mud and she’s “rescued” by a gruff cowboy. Although she is drawn to the cowboy, she secretly wonders if he’s an axe murderer. She’s drawn to him, but his mistrust is off-putting. Then, she gets a good look at him and realizes who he is...

Jason has no use for a city girl like Jessica. He’s lived the city life and doesn’t want the reminders of what he was forced to leave behind. After suffering the tragic loss of his parents, Jason leaves MLB to return to Sweetwater and the ranch he grow up on. The ranch that is secretly struggling to stay afloat. Even after putting his life savings into the ranch, Jason’s barely able to pay his employees. A return to his MLB pitching career would solve his financial situation, but he vows to never leave his grandma behind again.

Between Martha’s crazy antics, Kelly the hairless cat, and the banter between Jason and Jessica this novel is a hilarious mess! I loved Jessica’s strength, determination, klutziness, and inability to cook. I liked that she wasn’t whiny and didn’t take crap from Jason. She endeared herself to him, tearing down his walls and becoming the best ball girl a pitcher could ever dream of. Jessica’s faith in Jason propelled him to overcome his fear of failure and take a chance on living again. I loved his plans for the ranch and his yoga, match-making granny! The best in opposites attract stories! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

Have you ever needed to just get away from your life?  May it be a vacation or completely move to a new town just to start over.  Well, Jessica definitely had a need to disappear from her current life to clear her mind and renew her purpose.

She's in the process of writing a book about divorce and living off her book advance.  Staying in a cabin in small town Texas seems like the perfect place to get her book written and heal from the hurt her ex-fiance caused.

What she didn't expect in her oasis is for the owner of the cabin to want to toss her out every chance he gets.  Jason is determined to get the city girl out of his cabin and out of his town.  City girls are nothing but trouble and he's determined to live by that mantra.  Only Jessica is not what he expected.

Have you ever had an expectation, preconceived notion of someone, if you will and then it turns out to be completely opposite from what you thought.  Well, Jason definitely needed correcting and so did Jessica.  Their thoughts about each other are quite funny and sometimes not far off base.

As usual, Author Lisa Renee Jones wow's us with her creativity.  This is not your typical cowboy story.  It's sweet, funny, and you'll fall in love with Jason's Grandmother the moment you meet her in the story.

This was my first Lisa Renee Jones's book. This is a great cowboy romance, and sports romance. I loved it. Jessica and Jason's story is sweet, fun, and beautiful. I love their slow burn story. Martha, Jason's Grandma, is a great and fun character. I enjoyed reading this story. Now, I'm looking forward for more books written by this author.

THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS by Lisa Renee Jones is the 1st book in the Sweetwater series. This is Jason and Jessica's story.
This is a sweet and funny story that tugs at your heartstrings. I found Jessica and Jason to be wonderful and engaging characters that kept me hooked on their entertaining love story. I will say the back and forth bickering got to be a bit much at times but overall, great first start to a new series.

My Rating: 4.5 stars ******

The Truth about Cowboys is the first book in the Texas Heat series by Lisa Renee Jones. I have read around ten books written by Lisa and I have to say this one is my favorite! I could stare at the cover all day. But, that’s not only reason. I loved the characters and their banter.

Jessica had to run. Runaway from her life in Dallas. The one she thought at one point was the one she wanted. Almost partner in her law firm. Almost engaged. It was an almost life and now she was going to the middle of nowhere to write a book and to find herself in the process. What she didn’t expect was him. An asshole cowboy with so much swagger it both pisses her off and turns her on. She wasn’t here for a rebound. She wasn’t here to find love. She was here to learn to be alone. But what if? What if she just had a little fun? It’s not like he would care when she left.

Jason knew she was trouble from the moment he saw her on that country road. She was a city girl with attitude. He had a city girl once and he was not about to go there again. He was back on his family ranch to take care of business and his grandma. That was it. Then she had to go and rent a cottage on his land. He definitely knew she was a pain in the ass. One he wanted to get behind...no, he definitely couldn’t go there. No distractions. And she was a big one in a small package.

I loved this one!!! Jason and Jessica might be cowboy and city girl but they both know the feeling of not knowing what’s next. She was there to find herself and maybe she was also there to kick Jason’s ass in gear and find himself. Together, these two have the best hate/love/lust banter. It made me swoon, get hot and bothered and mad. That’s what arrogant cowboys do, right?

Overall...it’s my favorite Lisa Renee Jones Book to date and I can’t wait for the next one!! Who is it going to be!? I really have no idea and I am excited about that.

Quotes:

“Jessica and I need to have some girl-talk time.” Jason doesn’t accept the invitation to leave.
“Grandma—”
“Grandson,” she counters, leaning on the island to fix him in a stare. “Go. Or we’ll start talking about PMS and cramps. The next thing you know, you’ll be doing a tampon run for us.”

“I can’t give you proper, Jessica. If that’s what you want—”

“I’ll walk you to your truck,” I suggest.
His lips quirk. “I don’t have time to pull you out of the mud.”
“I told you. I only fall on Tuesdays.”

The Truth About Cowboys is the first book in Lisa Renee Jones new Texas Heat series. Divorce attorney Jessica had her life in order. She was a high power, high demand attorney that would soon be offered a partnership. That is until she walked in to find her equally high power almost fiancé in a very compromising position with his secretary. She also learns he has tapped her savings account almost wiping her out. Not herself when she arrives at work, Jessica may have made a few choice comments about a thieving, cheating client, at least enough to be put on a six week leave of absence.

Now she has left the condo she shared with Craig. Thanks to an offer to write a how to book as a guide to divorce she has some future income to count on, now she needs a quiet place to work. Jessica goes on Zillow to find a small home to rent and finds a rural retreat offered by a sweet older lady named Martha. Leaving the hotel where she has been staying, Jessica heads to Sweetwater, Texas, on a rainy evening. Between the rain and the dark, Jessica can barely see the road as she follows her GPS to her destination.

A ditch, a puddle, a broken heel, and a pour down prove to be her introduction to her new landlord’s grandson, retired pitcher Jason Jenks. His immediate reaction is to try to throw her off the property. He has had it with city girls and does not trust that she isn’t just another city person there to dig up salable information. But Jason’s Grandma Martha is quite taken with the new tenant and he would do about anything to bring that smile to Grandma as the anniversary of his parents’ death approaches.

However, the sparks that fly between Jessica and Jason are not of repulsion but of attraction. As the weeks go by, Jessica becomes more comfortable in her new place, working slowly on her book, but developing a strong relationship with Martha quickly. And along with this new relationship, things are rapidly changing between Jessica and Jason even though they are each working on their own trust issues.

This is a lovely story of two unlikely people coming together in most unlikely ways to help each other heal while also helping each other to realize their dreams. I enjoyed this book with its rich characters and setting and do recommend it,
