I’ll be honest in saying that my newly single self hasn’t been the biggest fan of romance novels lately. There’s nothing like a bitter break up to make a person stop believing in true love and happily ever afters.

It’s no surprise I was drawn to this book because of the cover. While I may not believe in love, I do believe in steamy fun times with good looking men and this cover model is most definitely a good looking man.

From the first page of this book, the book gave me more than I expected. Right away, I knew I was going to enjoy it.

" Most people would think it’s crazy to leave everything (newly defined as “nothing”) behind to live in a cottage that I’ve never seen outside of a few Zillow photos. And yes, it’s a decision I admittedly made rather spontaneously and from a hotel room, bot desperate times demand desperate decisions. I need to breathe air that my ex isn’t breathing."

I’m pretty sure I’ve never had a book so accurately sum up my recent life decisions. For the most part the people in my life think I’m absolutely bonkers.

You see, when I found myself single for the first time in nearly a decade, I didn’t cry or wallow in my own pity. I started packing my things, applied for jobs all over the country, put in my notice at work and within 2 weeks I was moving into my new apartment a couple hundred miles away from my ex.

Personal antidotes aside, this was a fun read. I found Jessica very relatable and Jason was the perfect cowboy book boyfriend. Have I mentioned lately how much I love cowboys?

Overall, The Truth About Cowboys is the perfect book to curl up with on a crisp fall day. It will appeal to people who not only love cowboys but baseball players and secrets as well.

5 star review of The Truth About Cowboys by Lisa Renee Jones
When I heard that Lisa Renee Jones had a new series coming out I couldn’t wait to put my hand up to review. Having read several books by this talented author I was excited for The Truth About Cowboys.
There is so much going on in this story that I found myself riveted to it. Jason Jenks, where do I start? There was just something about him that really drew me to him. He works hard, is a retired baseball player who is forced to return home to run his family farm and although he frustrated me at times, he ticked many of my boxes.
This was a passionate, heartwarming and fun book, full of laughter, a little drama and was one of those books I didn’t want to put down. The writing was strong and the characters had a great deal of depth to them. I really liked Jessica, how feisty she was and how determined she is to make a go of her new life. Jason’s grandmother Martha is a real hoot and I loved her, she really brought an added layer to the story.
Can two strong willed people such as Jason and Jessica overcome their stubbornness and in doing so find a future together? One click and find out.

I received an arc copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. Jessica is trying to recover herself after finding her, now ex, sleeping with his secretary in their bed and escapes to the country, cowboy country. While driving to her rental in a deluge of rain she meets a handsome cowboy who helps her along and sparks start to fly, sparks of rage. The cowboy, Jason didn’t realize his grandmother put the cottage he uses as an office up as a rental and when he finds the crazy and klutzy city girl he helped on the side of the road he was less than amused. Unfortunately his grandmother and Jessica hit it off and soon Jessica is becoming part of the family and all Jason wants is for this city slicker to leave. Along the way they’re sniping comments become more of a flirtation and the sheets start to heat up between the two (light heat). Unfortunately both have been burned in the past by previous loves and their parents making their relationship a long and hard road. This book was a nice quick read with a cowboy edge. My only complaint was how back and forth Jason was with his attitude towards Jessica, but it’s nice to see a strong and smart female lead. 4 stars

Let me start off by saying who hasn’t fantasized about a cowboy, because I know I have. Lol

Jessica life was good. She was a divorce attorney, heading for partnership with her firm, a fiancé that worked with her and understood her job and an amazing apartment. But her world got turned upside down when she got home and found her fiancé in bed with his secretary. And it didn’t end there, she had a melt down on an important client after her finding out about her fiancé (ex-fiancé) and her firm asked her to take leave of absence. She had to get away. She had to leave Dallas and give herself some time to recover. She found a little cottage for rent a few hours away from Dallas and booked it within days of what happened. She wanted something different and different she got, in one sexy, hot as hell, drop dead gorgeous cowboy.

Jason’s life was a mess after his parents died and left everything to him, along with a debt that he could not keep up with. He dropped his professional baseball career to help with the ranch and stay close to his grandmother, which is all the family he had left. He tried his best to make things better and not go under. He was so busy trying to keep the place a float that he didn’t realize it until it was to late. His grandmother has rented out the cottage. The one place he uses as an office and a place to get away from it all. When he met Jessica, all he thought was not another city girl. He had been burned by a city girl, and they don’t belong on a ranch. But his grandmother was relentless, she kept pushing and the one person he could never say no to was his grandmother.

Their chemistry was intense. Lust and hate mixed in to one beautiful story. And we all know how that goes. They could not stay away from each other no matter how much they tried. They said they were friends, they tried to avoid each other. When 2, halves find each other they make a whole, but could they move forward and forget the past, forget what other have done to them. Move forward united and help each other achieve their goals and dreams. Could Jason let her in and open up to all the secrets he’s been hiding even from his own family? Can he trust someone enough to let his heart get involved? Jessica on the other had was realizing that she never was in love with her ex-fiancé. Getting to know Jason and what she was feeling for him was something had never felt before with anyone. She had never reacted to someone’s presence like she has for Jason, even just being in the same room, her body feels alive.

I love this book! I can’t wait for Rookie’s (Jason’s best friend) story. I love me a cowboy story, like I said at the beginning, who doesn’t fantasize about them! This book is hot! Must read!

If you love a sexy AF cowboy and a heroine who isn’t afraid too speak her mind then you will absolutely love this book. When Jessica and Jason first met they couldn’t stand each other but over time that has changed. I love everything about this story, I mean who doesn’t like a sexy AF ex baseball player turn cowboy. It was relatable and will definitely give you all the feels.

The Truth About Cowboys, is an amazing story of starting over, finding yourself, learning to trust, and learning to love again.

I absolutely love Jason & Jessica’s magnetic push and pull. They are both strong and vulnerable in their own ways, making their instant chemistry draw you in, while their witty banter hold and captivates you as the story unfolds.

Divorce lawyer Jessica's had it with the big city!
Dallas was full of idiot clients and cheating fiancés.
Now she's rented a little cottage to finally write her book.

But when she finally gets there - the owner is not very happy to see her.
He didn't know his grandma had rented out their little cottage.

Grandma definitely has some bigger plans for her grandson and Jessica. But those two just can't seem to be in a room - or in a mud puddle - together without starting to argue!

Plus there's Jason's mysterious retirement from professional sports and lots of money and old relationship problems that'll keep our darlings busy!

Let the fun times begin!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO JESSICA & JASON?
WILL THERE BE A HEA?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT ☺

Well, that was ... cute!!!

It was a funny Cowboy-Baseball-Lawyer-Author romance full of mud and cookies and rain and moody, sexy ranchers!

I really loved reading it.

It was also a Lisa Renee Jones book - so it was a tiny bit too long. We could've cut a few pages and a few too complicated sentences. And a few of those YOU DID, DID YOU?'s - there were too many of those kinds of 'questions' in here. The writing was a bit weird here and there. It felt like Lisa tried too hard to sound different and funnier. But I still really liked Jessica and Jason - and grandma and Roarke! And the cookies! I even liked the cat - and I hate cats! ☺

It was a sweet and adorable and slightly frustrating romance. I enjoyed reading it and I can't wait to read Roarke's story next!

Jessica was a successful divorce attorney on the fast track to partner in her law firm. It all came to crashing halt when she discovered her boyfriend has been cheating on her. On leave from her job, the only thing Jessica has going for her is a book deal to write a woman's guide to divorce. Leasing a cabin from a woman she discovered on craigslist seems like the ideal situation to escape from it all. Jessica isn't prepared for the torrential rain, muddy impassable roads or arrogant men who stop to help.

Jason has enough on his plate without a clumsy woman getting stranded on his road. He quit baseball to return to his family ranch after the death of his parents and found the ranch struggling to survive. When he discovers the woman, he rescued setting up home in his office, thanks to his meddling grandmother he's stuck with Jessica for the time being. Jason has been hurt before, and he has no intention of letting this woman gather information on him to sell to the press. Both have been hurt before, and trust doesn't come easy. It doesn't help that sparks fly when they're together.

This is a light-hearted romance. Martha is the grandmother we would all love to have, she bakes, is a shoulder to cry on and isn't afraid to discuss sex. Jessica has enough reasons to be a stereotypical divorce lawyer, watching her parents repeat marriages, her own failed relationships, but she doesn't allow this to close her off to love.

Issues I had were pretty minor, I felt Jason's trust issues overwhelmed the story at times, and Jessica put up with his baseless accusations for too long. Overall this is a fun, lighthearted read that is easy to follow. An ideal book to while away an afternoon.

I received an arc of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A cowboy and a baseball player?? Sign me up. Jessica and Jason’s story was so enjoyable. They rode that fine line between love and hate and the result was a sweet slow burn that I couldn’t get enough of. Although they came from different worlds, they had both been burned in similar ways and I really like how discovering that commonality between them brought them closer together. I always love when the hero and heroine truly get to know each other before love is being thrown around. Add in amazing secondary characters like Martha, Roarke and Kelly and you have a perfect book. Highly recommend!

3.5 stars - This "hate you, love you" book about a divorce lawyer, Jessica, and a baseball player, Jason, was good, but not great. The bickering went on for too long and became annoying & repetitive. Martha, Jason's grandmother, was the glue that held this book together.

This book had a lot of turmoil, but unfortunately, not a of depth.

Jessica left an A****le and rented a,cottage in the wood. She will write a book and get some piece and quiet. Instead she found Jason, an A****le. Two people hiding find each other. Once again, Lisa’s talent to write romance stories you get The Truth About Cowboys.

This is the perfect romance story. Jessica and Jason are flawed and complex characters. Each has a journey of self discovery to complete. They need each other to do it. There are so many laugh out loud moments. Jessica is quirky and feels like a friend after reading this story. I love Martha, she's fun, sweet, kind, and strong. Jason is a man to swoon for all while wanting to slap him on the back of the head. The romance is steamy and perfectly paced. The struggles of the characters are real and relatable. This definitely stands alone, but I see a couple of characters that need their own books. I have no doubt Lisa Renee Jones will deliver. This author never disappoints.

When life as she knows it ends up in shambles, Jessica needs some time away from Dallas, TX and all of the problems that come with it. Booking a getaway in the small town of Sweetwater is supposed to be just that... until she meets a cowboy who has trouble written all over him...

With the burden of the family ranch weighing on him, Jason Jenks does not need the inconvenience of a city girl staying on his property... at all. Especially one whom he just can't seem to stay away from. Plus, Jason already knows what city girls do after they've had their fill of country life... they always leave.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Truth About Cowboys was an entertaining and engaging read about a woman working to reinvent herself in the wake of realizing how much she has sacrificed her happiness in favor of false stability. The only thing that Jessica and Jason can agree on is how much they drive each other crazy... but when the thin line between hate and lust gets blurred, their lives are in for an unforgettable ride...
Upon discovering her fiancé in bed with another woman, Jessica, a divorce lawyer, makes the mistake of insulting a client she is representing and pretty much ensuring she will never make partner at her current firm. With a book deal to fall back on, Jessica decides she needs a change of scenery to be able to focus and get her life back to where she wants it. And Sweetwater, TX seems like just the place to get away from it all...
Following the sudden death of his parents, Jason's life was forever changed. The once crazy talented baseball phenom traded in his cleats for cowboy boots and has never looked back since... or has he? Having Jessica around has given Jason a dangerous new outlook on his future, and what once seemed impossible is starting to seem like it's more within reach than ever...
This was a great read! I loved the banter and the rampant sexual tension between Jessica and Jason, and even though it took the FOREVER to get to an HEA, it was well deserved. I also felt that the story had way too many misunderstandings and jumped to conclusions  (I'm looking at you, Jason). A few here are there are a great plot tool, but there were so many in this storyline, when their HEA finally did happen, I didn't feel like it was a genuine as it could have been.
Jessica and Jason were both strong willed and successful in their own right, and while they had both been burned in previous relationships, they will need to dig deep to overcome their hangups about the opposite sex. From enemies, to lovers, to friends... the relationship between Jessica and Jason is a bumpy, yet enjoyable road from beginning to end.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
The truth about cowboys – or at least, this particular cowboy – is that they’re hot and cold assholes who despise city girls. If I ever hear or see the term “city girl” ever again, I’ll rip my hair out. Listen, I’m pretty patient and easygoing when it comes to flawed protagonists, especially in romance novels, but I cannot stand the hero in this book. Jason is a self-proclaimed asshole who constantly judges Jessica simply because she’s from the city and he’s been burned by a city girl before. He continues to judge her and makes swift assumptions about her actions even after significant relationship development. I hate how Jessica has to constantly prove herself when she hasn’t done anything wrong. What is this?? I fail to understand how Jessica fell in love with Jason. Every time she’s with a man, she has to explain herself to Jason to let him know that she’s not on a date with one of his ranch men. Because obviously, who she dates or does not date is up to this asshole cowboy. Jessica does stand up to Jason, but she also easily lets go of things and constantly makes excuses for his behaviour. No, thank you. The rest of this review will have spoilers, if you can even call them spoilers. I'm rage writing at this point.
Here’s the thing with Jason – his ex was a city girl who cheated on him with the men who work on his ranch. Understandably, his ex gets vilified because she’s a shitty person. But what about the men who willingly slept with their boss’s fiancée???? They’re not even mentioned!! Hello?? It’s not like she forced them to have sex with her. Why is she the only one being vilified? Are those men still working for Jason? If so, why is he still protective over them? And how dare he tell Jessica not to date his men?? Try telling your men not to fuck your woman, not that Jessica is even his woman. UGH THIS FUCKERY. My brain hurts.
You know what’s the sad thing? This book started off SO DAMN WELL. Clumsy and hilarious lawyer heroine and cranky ex-baseball player turned cowboy? Sounds delicious, right? The meet cute is one of the best things EVER. I was enthralled with the set up and the dynamic between Jason and Jessica. I even gave Jason some free passes in the beginning because obviously it will take some time for him to fully trust Jessica. But oh. My God. One minute Jason orders Jessica to leave and the next minute he tells her she can stay. Rinse and repeat. I wanted to slap the cowboy hat off this dude. Almost 80% into the story, after significant relationship and character development, Jason regresses and continues to compare Jessica to his ex, when she has done NOTHING to deserve this disgusting comparison. Well over 90% into the story, he still bitches over the books she’s writing. All of this after he spent so much time with Jessica and got to know her. All of this after his grandma and his best friend talked sense into him. BOY BYE! He didn't grovel enough!!!!
Aside from the ASSHOLE COWBOY, the other problem I had with this book is the writing. I really don’t like criticizing an author’s writing style, but Jones’s writing is weak, awkward, repetitive, and filled with unnecessary details. She’s a really good storyteller – there are some really memorable scenes in this book, even if the hero is a jerk. The pacing is also pretty good, which seems to be an issue in other recent romances I’ve read. But her prose is wordy, with too many run-on sentences. I was forced to reread many paragraphs twice or more to really understand what the author is trying to convey. I can’t deal with that. It makes my brain and eyes hurt. There are also a lot of inconsistencies story-wise: 1) was Jessica’s ex a fiancé or a boyfriend? 2) Roarke’s grandma is mentioned in both present and past tenses: is she alive or dead? and 3) how in the fuck did Jessica’s ex steal her money?????? I am hoping this book is edited further before final publication because it is in desperate need of a good editor.
P.S. At least the cover is droolworthy, even if the hero isn't.
essica and Jason do not have a good first meeting, nor do they make a good first impression on each other. Jessica finds herself in some hot water with Jason, even though she doesn't understand why. It seems his meddling grandmother, Martha, has caused some mischief in an ill-advised attempt to bring some life to the ranch. Jessica and Jason have each been burned by love and neither are in a hurry to find it again. They were like oil and water and, I truly did have a hard time believing their feelings for each other when both of them pushed the other one's buttons so much. I understood Jason's reluctance to trust Jessica, but I had a hard time understanding her willingness to let him treat her so badly at points. Did enjoy Jason finally figuring out what was important. Liked how Martha just wanted what was best for her grandson.
I liked the side characters and am interested to read the next book in this series. I really did enjoy Martha and how she shows up more.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.
Jessica is a hot-shot divorce lawyer from Dallas. She has left the city to find peace and quiet to decide what she wants to do with her life. She has rented this cute cottage in the middle of nowhere. The only problem is that it is already taken. Jason Jenks is an ex-pro baseball players. He is home trying to save the ranch. From the very beginning, they are setting off sparks. Added to that, Jessica is a klutz and Jason is constantly saving her. The character that steals the book is Martha/Grandma. She is a hoot. Loyal to her grandson, a great sense of humor and a fantastic baker. She also thinks she's found the perfect person for her grandson. Until the past is dealt with, neither can move forward.
Cozy, fun and so good it makes me want to settle down in a cowboy-filled ranch.
Admittedly , I am not a fan of cowboys in general, but this author appeals to me enough to overcome that. And oh my, what a treat I gave myself.
Jason and Jessica are combustible together. They are that kind of storm out in the open beneath huge skies, overpowering and electrifying. I loved the raging encounters between them filled with confrontation and wit and strong passion. From the way they meet which is a mix of comic and traditional, to the combative but irresistible attraction they hide under a shield of suspicion and distance, the scenes spark with chemistry.
I felt close to the characters because their lives are an interesting mess. She is running from a ruined life while building the foundation of a new one. He is fighting to avoid being sucked under the past. And wow, he is a brooding, sexy beast of a man. Fantastic on paper, seems hot in the flesh too 😄
I loved the grandma character, her resilience and the touch of family warmth she added to the story yet also to a lonely Jessica.
As I carried on reading, the story turned more hilarious and steamy by the page. There's a scene involving a grandma, cowboy dating and a cat that was priceless!
This couple is really hard on the making. He's too stubborn and prideful, so she gets quite bruised in the process emotionally speaking. Sometimes I I wanted to hit him on the head because she’s so good and nice and funny and she didn’t deserve so much rejection. It’s quite emotional in the middle of all the humorous situations and the wonderful ideas she has for her career and the ranch. I loved those so much.
The cowboy and the city girl go through many bumps in this second chance romance that is also a second chance at life dreams and self-worth. I loved Sweetwater and the cowboys there, and this couple inspired me a lot. Finally he comes to his senses despite his villanous baggage and he makes his woman all hot and bothered and happy-hearted.
I do hope I can get a chance to revisit the place and all its lovable inhabitants.
