A fabulous start to this series! It is sweet, funny, and all kinds of heartfelt.
Jason, former baseball star turned rancher is all kinds of hot and swoony. He has been burned in the past and is not looking to repeat it. When Jessica, a lawyer form the city, turns up on his ranch, he isn't interested in starting anything. No matter what his fiesty grandmother thinks should happen. Even if she is the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on, he still isn't interested.
I fell in love with these two. They clash immediately and I just knew all that back and forth is going to turn in to some serious heat. I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. I can't wait to get the next one in this series!

“Lord help me, he might be a jerk but he’s a Wrangler commercial come to life, and I need a cold drink right now.” – Jessica

Jessica was living her best life, or so she thought. When she catches her now ex in a compromising position, she takes off from Dallas to a small cottage she found online. She needs to get away from the city and figure out her life. When her car breaks down in the middle of the night in the pouring rain, a handsome cowboy comes to save her. However, unlike in the books she’s read, this cowboy isn’t her knight in shining armor, he lectures her about not being prepared. Jason Jenks doesn’t have time for the pretty city girl he helped, who unbeknownst to him would also be staying in his grandmother’s old cottage on his ranch. As the two get spend more time together, (sometimes against their will) Jason realizes that maybe Jessica isn’t the city girl he thought she was, but when hurtful words and accusations are said can Jessica forgive Jason, or is she meant to stay a city girl?

This is my first book by Lisa Renee Jones, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Jessica was a hilarious heroine with so much sass and snark, and Jason, is the hot cowboy we all dream about! Their back and forth was entertaining, and watching them fight their feelings kept me turning the pages to see if they could finally figure it out! Also I LOVED the secondary characters, Martha was hilarious, from baking together to drinking together she kept the humor alive every time! I need a book about Roarke now, because that man needs to have his own happily ever after! This was a quick read, and I recommend it to anyone looking for something to get lost in!

Such a fun and entertaining read. I loved the feistiness of the main characters. Jessica is recovering from a bad breakup. Jason is not looking for love. But there is undeniable chemistry between them. The grandma was a real character! Will she succeed in her matchmaking? A lovely story!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS by Lisa Renee Jones was a bit of a foray into a genre I do not normally read but was looking for something that was not intense and would amuse and entertain me instead of having me sit on the edge of my seat. I am happy to say I could not put this book down, not because I was on the edge of my seat but because I was relaxed and enjoying my time with Jessica and Jason.

Jessica is a divorce attorney who is burning out on the job, it is not as fulfilling as she had hoped and then there is the proverbial fiancé in bed with his secretary. Jason is the cowboy and owner of the ranch Jessica is renting a cottage on, he is also a retired professional baseball player. Though the love/hate relationship with sexual tension has been done millions of times, Ms. Jones does it with humor and that made this book more than another romance story. Also Jason’s grandmother Martha brings another dimension to the book for those Grandma’s with life to live.

A great, quick read for anyone just looking to spend some easy reading time with pleasant characters.

Can sum this review of the “Truth about Cowboys” in three words...I loved it.

First, the characters. I loved Martha, everyone needs a Martha in their lives. I would really be happy to see Martha get her chance at love! 💕 Who doesn’t love the sweet, cookie baking, matchmaker of a grandmother? I think Lisa Renee Jones needs to provide the cookie recipe in the book...I want one of those cookies!

Now our MCs. Oh Jason, with the fine ass in the wrangler jeans (Sigh 😊). That man had more luggage than Kardashian’s going on vacation. He had the world on his shoulders, had been in a craptastic relationship that left him untrusting of women/people, and was sinking in debt because of the ranch. Let me tell you, I thought Jason was a great broody, alpha male and he grew throughout the story. Maybe not as fast as I wanted but he had a lot of trust issues to resolve and I think the author did a good job building his character.

Jessica, well she was the cheese in a shit sandwich, She come home from work to find her significant other screwing his secretary in her bed. Then she tells off a client, which gets her put on administrative leave, and finally my McCheater Pants (Craig), also took her life savings. To say her life is in shambles is putting it nicely! So what does Jessica do? She rents a cabin in BFE Texas to escape.

That’s were our story gets good! There is angst, chemistry and comedy when Jessica and Jason are in the same vicinity. Throw Martha the matchmaker into the mix and you got love in the making! The story kept me entertained, the characters were strong and well developed, the romance was not an instalove situation, but you could almost feel the heat coming off the pages!

So my criteria for a good book is:
1. Great story (that’s relatively believable)
2. Strong hero, that’s not stupid
3. Strong heroine that doesn’t pull TSTL antics
4. Great secondary characters!
5. Great steamy romance

Guess what this book has it all! And it’s a standalone so no waiting on another book for answers! So if you want to save a horse and ride a cowboy (for a few hours), Jason is the perfect H for this journey! Pick this book up today and read it immediately!!! Definitely recommend!

The Truth About Cowboys is the first book in the Texas Heat series by Lisa Renee Jones. A swoon-worthy contemporary romance about a city girl vs. country boy makes this a must-read summer romance! This is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last. I love this book! The Truth About Cowboys has everything a good rom-com needs to make is a real page-turner. An emotional roller coaster of light heart moments, sexy off the charts chemistry, and humor. If you are a fan of steamy cowboy romance with lots of drama and a hint of humor then definitely pick this one up.

City girl vs. country boy makes this a must read! One cranky cowboy, although cranky doesn't begin to sum up how twisted Jason "The Flying J" Jenks boxers are over the arrival of Jessica the divorce attorney from Dallas, Texas. The chemistry, laughter and family moments are everything in this cowboy romance.

Clearly Jessica is out of her element in the small town of Sweetwater, Texas, but as a top divorce attorney in Dallas she's used to tackling tough cases and the cranky, cowboy Jason is just another mountain she has to tackle to enjoy her escape. Yes, she escaped, ran is more like it, from her life in the city and her fiance after she caught him cheating and called one of the firms top clients a cheating scumbag. So, it all happened on the same day and her mental status may not have been in the best state, but that isn't the total reason she's escaping to the middle of nowhere for a mini-vacation (temporary leave) from her job to finally write a book on divorce. Everything will be fine, except it really isn't. Can a person be attracted to bad luck? If so, she attracts it like flies to honey.

Jason is just trying to survive. After the death of his parents he left the big city, his career, and his dream of playing baseball to come back and run the ranch that is falling down around him. Yes, he gave up his dream, but he knew his parents dream was the ranch and he will do anything to keep their dream alive. With problems escalating what he doesn't need is the city following him to his quiet solitude in the form of a shapely woman.  Jessica is everything he left behind and he will do everything to make sure she doesn't stay.

A divorce lawyer in the middle of nowhere who wants to stay and a sexy cowboy who doesn't want to be there, but won't leave. How can these two possibly find a middle ground?

The Truth About Cowboys is delicious, full of family fun and love, lots of humor and sizzling heat!

This is a tough one for me. I didn't love it, there were parts I liked but those parts were here and there throughout the book. I loved the first part of the book with the full of sass Jessica, a divorce attorney who leaves a cheating ex behind in Dallas to get away. She has no money, no place to live and she's on enforced leave from her high profile job. She's rented a little cottage in a small town a few hours away to get herself together and write her book. She's rented it from a sweet little grandmother Martha who she's spent time with talking on the phone. She's found the perfect place.
Driving late at night she runs into a man while trying to navigate a muddy road in a rainstorm who is a complete a@@. I didn't like Jason from the moment his left boot hit the mud on that road. He was hard to like. He's an ex pro baseball player, who is technically out injured and not playing but that's not the truth. He's back home on the family ranch trying to keep things together for the woman who raised him his grandmother Martha. Yep, same Martha that rented the cottage to Jessica. That Martha neglected to tell Jason about.
Jason treats Jess like she's something he'd need to scrape off the bottom of his shoe and those are just the nice qualities. He's good to his Grandmother though.
Despite all those things, this book just wasn't for me, after the rough beginning the thing that floated me through that was Jessica's sass. Too many plot holes, too much bad attitude and not enough of many of the things that hold a book together. While others may find this entertaining, it didn't work for me.
It was a push to finish and 3 stars is being generous.

This was a great book about a broody cowboy and the woman who knocks him on his ass. The pacing was right as well as the chemistry. The growth of each character was everything I could want. Grandma Martha was a hoot and the fact that our main characters were so stubborn just made things fun. Can there be a story for Roarke because he needs some love?!

I love cowboys and their alpha ones and this book had so much of it I had cowboy overload. But. What a way to go. I did not know cowboys could be this hot and sexy. Amazing story and chemistry.

I received this book from NetGalley as an ARC for a voluntary and honest review. I am a huge fan of Lisa Renee Jones. I've read at least three quarters of her books, and have a bunch in my kindle TBR. So I jumped at the chance for an ARC. However this book I just couldn't connect with the characters. Told in the first person, is not a problem for me in any means and each chapter begins with which character's head you are in. Jessica to me was a total ditz for someone who had almost made partner in her law firm, until she made one client mad. She's always into some kind of klutzy trouble. Jason gave up his dreams and left pro-baseball to come back to the family ranch after his parents death. It's not what he wanted, but it was the right thing to do. That makes him somewhat of an angry person coupled with the ranch was rather in the red when his parents died. Usually I can not put a LRJ book down, but this one took me over a week to read. The heat between the characters that LJR is so awesome at creating was defiantly there. My favorite person in the book was Jason's grandmother Martha. She was definitely that sassy grandma that didn't act her age, beyond baking cookies, but these are quite yummy cookies. Her other activities besides matchmaking Jessica and Jason are pilates, says it keeps her young.

The Truth about Cowboys is awesome. This book exceeded my expectations. This is the first book I ever read by Lisa Renee Jones but it certainly won’t be the last. This is an engaging, heartwarming and enjoyable story. I love the interaction between Jason and Jessica. The slow burn will keep you interested. I absolutely love Jason’s grandma and how her and Jessica have such a close and loving relationship. Pick up this book. You won’t be disappointed..

Jessica, a divorce attorney, needs to get away from the city. Her ex not only cheated on her, but took her money, promising to return it as soon as he can…right! She rents a cottage in Sweetwater, Texas and plans to write a book called “A Girl’s Guide to Divorce”. She arrives after several disasters including getting her car stuck in the mud only to be accosted in her cottage. Jason Jenks, owner of the Flying J Ranch and the cottage insists the cottage is his and he did not rent it to her. The back and forth dialog and attraction between the two sizzles throughout the entire story. Jason was a successful pro baseball pitcher who left the team due to the tragic and unexpected death of this parents in order to take care of the ranch and his grandmother. Jessica falls in love with Jason’s grandma and the cookies she bakes and doesn’t give in as Jason does his best to get her to leave. What a joy to read, fun, sexy, great characters and I am really looking forward to the next book in the series! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

TRUST... if you have been burned before, it is not easy to trust anyone else. It is a matter of survival!

Take a beleaguered silent ex baseball player and mix him up with an opinionated divorce lawyer and you have the recipe for trouble. They are both running away from their past while trying to deal with after effects of their present life. The future is not something they can even deal with at this time. It will take a huge event for them to even begin to hope for a way out of their misery.

In a lonely night, in the middle of nowhere, Texas, mud and potholes interfere. Soon you have a pretty ex lawyer slathered in mud while staring at an amazed and grunting ex baseball player trying to play hero. This is the beginning of a love/hate relationship that will have you roaring with laughter. Two opposites have never fought this much. Life his grandmother Martha notes, there is just something while they fight that feels like there is attraction. After all, the line between love and hate is a very fine line to straddle.

Definitely recommended for a delightful reading experience!

I found The Truth About Cowboys to be an entertaining and enjoyable read. How can one not love a hero who is both a sports star and a cowboy? Swoon! The two characters start off as enemies - a city girl and a country boy who “clash like fire and ice”, but the attraction between them was undeniable. They each had their strengths, but also flaws, thus making them relatable. I found some of the banter between Jessica and Jason to be rather humorous.

The storyline was entertaining with the underlying themes of self discovery and learning to trust - something that I think many of us can identify with. I really loved watching them each evolve as characters as they discovered what really made them happy and what they really wanted out of life. There were times where I wanted to shake Jason as it seemed he just couldn't get past jumping to conclusions and passing judgment on Jessica even though she more than proved she is trustworthy. Nonetheless, I couldn't help but love these characters and wish for their HEA. I also adored Martha as she is the quintessential grandmother with her matchmaking ideas, wisdom, and of course, cookie baking. This book is different from other books that I have read by this author as I have mostly read her more darker romantic suspense novels (i.e. Dirty Rich series and the Filthy Trilogy) and The Truth About Cowboys has a different feel to it. It is more of a contemporary small town romance. I’ve read a complimentary copy of this book and all opinions are my own.

A fun romp through the back range of Texas, which includes snakes, mice, cats and of course horses. The interplay between Jason and Jessica is intense and entertaining, the trust issues and overbearing anger Jason exhibits regularly becomes old by the end of the book. The story line is entertaining and should be added to your TBR list, quirky and a great read

"Lord help me, he might be a jerk, but he's a Wrangler commercial come to life, and I need a cold drink right now."

I've been a Lisa Renee Jones fan for years. She's an auto-click author for me. That being said, after having read many of her books, I think this is my favorite. I loved it soooo hard I want to see it on a movie screen. It's that good.

There are so many things that make this story amazing, for starters, in alphabetical order...

✅ Apologies
✅ Baseball
✅ Boots
✅ City
✅ Cookies
✅ Country
✅ Cowboys
✅ Grandma
✅ Giggles
✅ Horses
✅ Mud
✅ Sex
✅ Snakes
✅ Texas
✅ Vodka

What's not to like about all that, right? Trust me, you're gonna love The Truth About Cowboys as much as I did. And I can't tell you how thrilled I am that it's just the beginning of a new series. I'm counting down until my next trip to Sweetwater. The line forms here...

Very different than what I'm used to from this author, but amazing nonetheless! Miss Jones has a way of wrapping you up in the pages of her books and not letting you go until the very end!.
