An entertaining read with a unique character- a blind lottery winning detective. I'd not read the earlier books in this series, which likely would have helped me in some spots but it was nonetheless an enjoyable read.

REVIEW ☆☆☆
The Devil's Own Game is part of a series, and I recommend reading the books in order. Backstory would have been very helpful to me. Allie and Tom are a team and a couple. Tom is blind, and I don't read many blind characters. The different perspective was interesting. Allie is a fairly typical sassy heroine. In the book, Allie has two perspectives, not a split personality, but similar I suppose. While the story is compelling and engaging, it's really nothing new. There was too much happening at times, and I was confused. It's an okay story, but I didn't love it

It's the first book i read in this series and won't surely be the last as it was highly entertaining and engrossing.
I liked the well written cast of characters, the setting and the well written plot.
Even if it's the third in this series I had no issues with the characters or the plot only it took some time to understand some details.

THE DEVIL'S OWN GAME, by Annie Hogsett, is a playful mystery about Allie Harper and Tom Bennington (they form the detective agency T&A) being thrust into their next case by a murder at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Tom is blind, Allie is spunky, and together with their master of security, Otis, start to piece together the murderer and his possible motives, meanwhile the deaths start to pile up and Allie starts to wonder if they will solve the case before they all get added to the death toll.
There is a lot going in this book. Tom won a major lottery a couple of years ago and now money is not an issue in his life or in the detective business. Allie and Tom have been a couple since the lottery windfall. There are journalists, police officers, and socialites that flow in and out of the book. The previous books mystery are often referenced but without reading them first, the reader finds it hard not to feel a little lost. All of this can leave the reader's head spinning without even looking at the crux of the book, the mystery at hand. The plot itself is interesting and keeps the reader on their toes for the next revelation. I did find myself wanting more story and less sidetracking throughout the book. The story does wrap up nicely and the reader feels rewarded with a satisfying conclusion.
THE DEVIL'S OWN GAME plot is an entertaining mystery and compels the reader to keep reading to find out who did it. There are a lot of inside references that are easily lost and therefore seem to get in the way of the story, but that being said, I enjoyed reading this book.

This is my first book by Annie Hogsett and I wish I had read the other two in the series before starting on this one. For those of you who are first time readers of the author it is advised that you follow the series in order. The back story would really have helped to understand the book better. Feisty but lonely Allie Harper meets Tom Bennington a blind handsome professor and though they are as different as chalk and cheese they hit ii off. The day they meet. Tom wins a lottery of $550 million and the couple is introduced to a lifestyle of luxury and opulence. They form the T & A detective agency along with their bodyguard Otis. Little do they know that their immense fortune will be met with resistance.
When a blind man is shot at by a sniper, Allie is sure that the actual target was Tom. They wonder if their nemesis is somebody new or a blast from the past? What follows is a fun filled thrilling but humorous game of hide and seek. Allie’s inner thoughts are translated by the author into another character like an alter ego to Allie. Her dual personality is so distinct that we almost get the feeling of the actual existence of Lee Ann, Allie’s alter ego. This is a genius move by the writer which adds zing to the story line. With multiple plot twists and brilliant characterization, The Devil’s Own Game is definitely worth a read.

When a sniper kills a blind man walking along the lagoon of the Cleveland Museum of Art, Allie Harper is afraid the victim is her boyfriend Tom Bennington III. Ever since Tom won the $550 million Mondo Mega Jackpot, their lives had been turned into a nightmare. Is their old nemesis Tito Ricci back for revenge? Or has a new devil sets his sights on Tom and Allie?

This was another thrilling fun-filled romp around Cleveland as Tom, Allie, their bodyguard Otis and the rest of the T&A agency are determined to stop the killer once and for all.

The Devil's Own Game was a disappointing book and I was looking forward to it. I just could not get into it.

This was the first book by Annie Hogsett that I've read. While I generally don't like coming into a series in the middle, I was intrigued by the description enough to take a chance. The "Somebody’s Bound To Wind Up Dead" series centers around Allie and her blind lover Tom (the founders of the poorly named T&A Detective Agency). Without having the backstory, it took some time to get used to Allie's voice (and the voice in her head of her alter-ego), but this was an amusing book that kept me hooked. If I had read the series from the beginning, I may have enjoyed this more (and given it a higher ranking), but there's time before this publishes in October to check out the first two books. Having the backstory will help you appreciate this book more.

I received a digital ARC via NetGalley.

i was intrigued by the blind hero in this mystery series since book 1, so I decided to give this story a try.
Unfortunately our blind hero, Tom Bennington, doesn’t play that big a role in the plot. He’s attractive, of course, tall and handsome, but as his wife, Allie, is the protagonist and has exclusive point of view, his “blind hotness” is always filtered through her perspective,
With his enhanced senses, Tom is proficient enough, still a bit insecure to make him believable as a blind person. Yet, we haven’t enough of his character, what stands out is the tenderness and passion between him and Allie, which is fine but lacking.
The writing style, dry yet with some quirky notes, didn’t appeal to me, and the multitude of characters and events, made me feel a bit lost, but I think other readers might enjoy more this series set in Cleveland, Ohio.
