Val Deniston is catering a special event celebrating the opening of the book store, Title Wave. The opening coincides with Bayport's annual Spooktacular Halloween event. As part of the opening celebration, the bookstore will be hosting a Costume Party. Suzette Cripps, who rents a room from Val's grandfather, is one of the contestants and also a member of a creative writing group, called the Fictionistas. For the contest, Suzette dressed up as Moaning Myrtle from the Harry Potter books. The bookstore owner's brother, Bram, declares Suzette the winner and awards her a gift certificate to buy books.

Unfortunately, Suzette never gets an opportunity to use the Gift Certificate, as she is found dead the next morning on the peninsula road, an apparent hit-and-run victim. The leader of the writer's group, Gillian Holroyrd, sent Val some pages of the book Suzette was writing and asked her to attend the next meeting of the Fictionistas, which will be a tribute to Suzette. As Val reads the pages and starts thinking about Suzette's activities, she realizes that Suzette was scared of something or somebody. Talking with people who knew Suzette confirms this and Val starts seriously doubting that Suzette's death was accidental.

Was it really an accident or was Suzette murdered? Who would want her dead? Why? Can Val and her grandfather figure out the mystery?

Maya Corrigan has developed a very involved mystery that will keep readers guessing clear through to the end. There are plenty of suspects, red herrings, and finger-pointing, along with the usual twists and turns of a good mystery to keep the reader involved.

Not having read the previous entries in the series, I was grateful for the background information about the characters. I really liked the main characters, Val and her grandfather. Being of Italian heritage, I think that it’s great to show a main character who is close to her grandfather, and living in the same house. As much as I enjoy books with a traditional family at its core, I feel it is important to be exposed to different types of families in works of fiction.

As soon as I started reading, I wanted to know more about Suzette’s background. All the clues about Suzette’s mother, her previous and current employers, and the writing group kept me reading and wanting to finally know who was the culprit. I also liked the fact that Val and her grandfather kept trying to find rational explanations for the disappearing objects, rather than believe there was something supernatural going on. Not to mention that the setting of the new bookstore only sparked my interest even more.

Crypt Suzette was a great mystery set during the time of Halloween. I would recommend Crypt Suzette to readers who are new to the series, as well as to those who have read the previous books. This book has made my daily commute to work so much more enjoyable. I will check out the previous entries, as I am certain they will be as enjoyable as this one.

Princess Fuzzypants here: Val and her grandfather are devastated when their roomer, Suzette, is run down by a car. At first it appears to be a tragic hit and run until Val starts to ask questions about Suzette’s life. A horrible mother shows up and a former employer and current workmates reveal bits and pieces of her story leading to the inevitable conclusion that her high sense of right and wrong has lead one villain to commit murder. Suzette has a habit of poking the bear when she sees some injustice. Did she confront the wrong person?
Val’s grandfather is also deeply involved in a new venture- ghost hunting. As he helps a woman who thinks her home is haunted, he uncovers some important information that will shed light on the murder as well. In the meantime, Val has a couple of new men who show great interest in her both professionally and personally. She soon discovers first impressions are often very right or very wrong.
In the end, it turns out to be a complicated web but Val is able to unravel it. Four purrs and two paws up.

This was a very good read. There were a number of characters but the author wrote each one so well and distinctly that they never got lost or vague. With so many levels, ghost hunters, catering, bookstore grand opening, not to mention death, I was completely engaged throughout the entire book. Looking forward to many more!

Maya Corrigan maintained a constant sense of tension throughout 'Crypt Suzette'. There was tragedy in the death of Val and Granddad's housemate, with plenty of suspects and darkness until the surprising conclusion. I appreciated that Val treated her grandfather with a little more kindness, as there had been more conflict between them in the past. The possibility of romance was a delightful aspect of this latest in A Five-Ingredients Mystery series. I couldn't put it down, and look forward to more.

The main reason I pick up these 𝕙𝕠𝕝𝕚𝕕𝕒𝕪 cozy mysteries is for the 𝖋𝖊𝖘𝖙𝖎𝖛𝖊 holiday theme. 🎃 This one started out 𝓹𝓻𝓸𝓶𝓲𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓰 in that regard, but the 🅗🅐🅛🅛🅞🅦🅔🅔🅝 theme was quickly pushed aside by the muᏒᎠᎬᏒ mᎽsᏆᎬᏒᎽ. 🚗 Which I found super dísαppσíntíng. 😪 However, the 🅼🆈🆂🆃🅴🆁🆈 kept me guessing until the end, and the 𝓬𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓼 were likable. 👍 Plus, as a ฿Ø₦Ʉ₴ there are five ψummψ š⊕uηdïηg recipes. 🍴 So a bit of a 🅜🅘🅧🅔🅓 🅑🅐🅖 with this one... 🆗

Val and her grandfather are back at the job of cooking and sleuthing. They have taken in a renter, to help her out in a tough financial situation. Suzette keeps to herself mostly and works at a local hotel. When she is found dead after her morning jog, Val and Grandpa begin to figure out what went on. A break-in at their home and a series of break-ins in the area, cause Grandpa to use his new cameras to catch what is going on. Lots of action in this story and lots of fun as well. This is well written and a fun read. A good addition to this series.

I am a such a sucker for a fun yet slightly chilling cozy mystery. I have honestly never read any of the other books in this series and I don't think it made a difference. Meaning I was able to pick up on the story line and the characters within fairly easily. I enjoyed immersing myself in the world created by Maya and I look forward to reading the previous books in this series.

You're going to want to slip into your cozy sweater and devour this while drinking your pumpkin spiced tea. This is the sixth book in the Five Ingredient Mystery series.

This is the sixth book in the Five Ingredient Mystery series by Maya Corrigan. Although I hadn't read any of the other books in this series, I had no problem hopping right in and I really enjoyed this book!

Val, a local café owner and local caterer lives with her grandfather. They also have a tenant, Suzette, who lives upstairs. Suzette is quiet and keeps to herself, but seemed to be a little paranoid, following a different route home each day from work. Suzette wins the Halloween costume contest at a new bookstore in town and the next morning is found dead on the side of the road.

Because Val liked Suzette, and police are quick to label this as an unfortunate accident, Val decides to do some investigating of her own. Val interviews Suzette's creative writing group and her co-workers at the local hotel.

I was kept guessing till the end about who the culprit was, I had a few suspects! It was a fun cozy mystery and I look forward to reading the whole series!

Cozy Mystery on the Chesapeake Shore
This book is the sixth in the series and the first that I have read. It stands alone exceptionally well. This is a very good story, but some parts moved a bit slowly. There were several issues in the book that I found to be irritating or offensive. Other than that, it is a good story with a good plot and a wonderful setting. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.

Suzette is run over and killed- shocking Val and her grandfather Don who rented her a room. Suzette was a college student who was respectful and quiet, perhaps for a reason. She didn't talk about her past. This happens just as Val is getting ready to cater the opening of a new bookstore in Bayport, an important job for her. Don's been busy with his own interests (he's a ghostbuster among other things) but the two of them launch into their own investigation. AS always in a cozy, there is more to the victim than meets the eye. There's my usual quibble about how this series purports to be set on the Eastern Shore of Maryland but is not at all reflective of the area, but I'll note I keep reading it because I like the characters. This was a really fun Halloween-themed cosy mystery which kept me guessing until the end. I loved the setting, especially the bookstore with the black cat and the relationship between Val and her grandfather.

A good mystery. I wasn't sure of the killer until the very last. Val and her grandfather have to investigate the hit and run murder of their renter. Suzette always kept to herself and when she was gone, Val started to find out many things about her. She wasn't the shy and quiet person they thought. When Val comes close to being run down, she knows they need to find the killer soon.

This Halloween-themed cozy is the 6th book in the Five-Ingredient Mystery series but it was the first on of the series that I read. Despite it being my first, I caught on to the characters quickly (which I love) and thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, so much so, that I've already picked up some of the earlier books.

Very entertaining with a nice plot and characters I'll enjoy reading more about. Highly recommended to cozy fans!!

Val and her Granddad have invited Suzette Cripps to stay in their home while she attends a nearby college. Suzette doesn’t share much about her life before arriving in Bayport, but before Val can befriend Suzette and learn more about her, she is killed. Val and Granddad are convinced that Suzette’s murder has to do with her past. There are a number of viable suspects and it takes Val to discover the secret between Suzette and the killer. Good chaacter relationship, especially between Val and her Granddad and an enjoyable book. What I enjoyed most about this book is the fact that I've only read one other in this series and I didn't feel lost. The story itself is well crafted and I love the characters, especially the relationship between Van and her grandfather. There are a plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.
