A popular notion today is to learn every skill that you can, to be fluent in a lot of different things. This sounds like a good idea, and may even be formed from good intentions, but it can rob you of the best at what God has called you to do. Jordan Raynor exams the concept of being a “jack of all trades, master of none,” in Master of One.
All too often, we are satisfied with being good enough, instead of striving to be our best. This book works to dispel some of the ideas that lead to this, such as looking for a job that fits your passions. Our focus should actually be on honoring God and what He has given us, and serving others.
The book is full of good information, and will help you get a better understand of how to pursue what God has called you to do. Stories from people who have pursued mastery of one thing at a time are included so that you can see both the process and results. The book is easy to read and understand. Practical tips are given to help you, regardless of what career stage you’re at.
