I received an advanced digital copy of this book from the author, Gallery Books and Netgalley.com. Thanks to all for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Ms. McDonald has once again created a solid, edge of your seat thriller with an unreliable narrator. It kept me guessing until the very end.

5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommended.

Imagine you wake up in the hospital one day not knowing what happened and why you are there. Imagine being told your mother is dead and you are suspected of her death.
Would you do everything in your power to find out the truth? Even if it just made you look more guilty?

Fantastic read from McDonald once again.

Family secrets, mother-daughter relationship, blank memories, a search for the truth, murder ... all the ingredients for a great mystery read. Did not disappoint and I will be checking out other books by this author in the future!

*Thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the complimentary copy for my honest review*

I finished this entire book in less than 12 hours, it was that good. I loved how it was told from alternating points of view and getting to hear the whole story from both Eva and her mom really added to the ambience of it all. There was so many twists and turns and the plot itself was just genius.

Highly recommend if you're looking for a great thriller that'll leave you guessing.

This was another solid thriller from Christina McDonald. With a fast pace and interesting, well-rounded and believable heroines, I liked having people to root for. The twists were plentiful and sharp, though I did find some to be overly coincidental

This was such an amazing book! It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and had me wanting to keep turning the page. I felt like I was watching a Lifetime movie in my brain the entire time!

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

After loving The Night Olivia Fell, I’ve kept Christina McDonald on my radar.

I’m going to admit that I did not love Behind Every Lie like I did The Night Olivia Fell, but BEL is still worth reading.

What I Liked:

The cover. It’s interesting and eye-catching.

The secrets and dynamic between Eva and Kat. Mother/daughter relationships are goldmines for drama and this was no exception.

Bottom line: I would def recommend you check this book out- especially if mom/daughter stories are your jam.

I loved The Night Olivia Fell, so I was looking forward to reading Behind Every Lie by Christina McDonald although it took me a little longer than planned to get to it but when I did, I flew through it! This is another addicting read by the author and also another one that pulls on your heartstrings with the dynamics between mother and daughter, especially after Eva, a very unreliable narrator finds out that her mom has been murdered and that she could be a suspect as she was found nearby, unconscious after being struck by lightning. Eva has absolutely no memory of that night and goes on a quest to find out what happened to her mother; along the way she discovers much more than she ever imagined as the truth of who she is and her mother's past are revealed in two POVs from Eva and her mother Kat from the present and the past until the two collide into that fateful night of the murder.

While I admit that I enjoyed Olivia a bit more than this novel, I still found Behind Every Lie to be a compulsive read. There were some twists that I saw coming but overall, the mystery is gripping and is very well written. I'm very much looking forward to McDonald's next book Do No Harm as I think there's no doubt that reading one of her books is guaranteed to be a thrill ride!

Thank you Netgalley and Gallery Books for the DRC. All opinions are my own.

Christina McDonald writes amazing (and heart-wrenching) books. I was thrilled with the opportunity to read Behind Every Lie. This is definitely a twisty thriller filled with head-spinning revelations. I couldn’t put this down after I started reading. I definitely recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for this ARC.

This was another great mystery by Christina McDonald. I stumbled across The Night Olivia Fell and it sucked me right in. When I heard she already had another book I jumped at the chance to read it. It took me longer than I had hoped to have time to devote to it, but wow did I fly through it. It did not disappoint. Eva was a confusing, yet likable character. I was rooting for her from the beginning, even though I was unsure as to what was going to happen with her. I also loved the dual perspective the author wrote the story in so we could have backstory on Eva's mom (I don't remember her name!) I feel like it helped you connect more with what was happening in the present to have those flashbacks. Overall this was a great mystery!

This book kept me on my toes. There were a lot of twists and turns....maybe too many. Overall the book was intense, fast moving and had all the elements for a good thriller

Behind Every Lie by Christina McDonald is set in Seattle and London as well as in the past and present. One minute Eva Hansen is having dinner with her mother, Kat, and in the next scene she is waking up in the hospital. Eva soon finds out that her mother has been killed but she cannot remember that night since she was struck by lightning.

Eva doesn’t think that she killed her mother but then again she is not 100 percent sure either way. She travels to London against the advice of everyone – doctors, the police, lawyers, the boyfriend and her brother.

Her boyfriend, Liam, seems like he wants the best for Eva. Does he really though? In some ways, he is too overprotective and too controlling. Something about Liam was annoying me from the start.

While in London, she uncovers the biggest secret that her mother kept. Eva still cannot remember what happened until the very end. In a short amount of time, she discovers two of the biggest surprises of her life. Just one enormous surprise would devastate someone but two life-altering surprises seem excessive.

If you enjoy unraveling mysteries and secrets, then Behind Every Lie could be the book for you.

If you are an abuser or enjoy gaslighting your loved ones, then you might not totally enjoy this book. This book is too good for dillweeds who have to manipulate everyone to get their way.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for doing a review. All opinions are my own. Obviously.

I enjoy an unreliable narrator story and this was definitely that. Eva Hansen wakes up in a hospital after being struck by lightning and is told that her Mother, Katherine has been murdered. Eva was found unconscious on the street not far away and is now being questioned by the police. With no memory of that night, Eva must learn the truth behind her mother's death in order to prove her innocence.

Told in 2 POV's both of Eva and Katherine, we slowly begin to unravel the truth of the faithful night, along with many hidden secrets. While I was definitely kept guessing by the twists I felt like it was a bit too much at times. I enjoyed this one and it definitely kept me entertained but I didn't love it as much as I enjoyed the author's previous book - The Night Olivia Fell, which felt much more plausible and definitely tugged at my heartstrings.

I was so excited to see another Christina McDonald Book- I absolutely loved The Night Olivia Fell. Behind Every lie is a fast paced thriller full of lots of suspense. The characters are not the most reliable and you may think you have things figured out but then you find out once again there's a character you cannot trust. Full of drama, guessing, twists and turns this is a book you don't want to miss!

When Eva Hansen wakes up in the hospital after being struck by lightening, she learns the horrible, life-altering truth - : her mother, Kat, has been murdered.. Eva has no recollection of what happened to her and it becomes evident that she is the police's number one suspect due to being found close to her mother's home and having no alibi. She retreats to London, her mother's former home, to attempt to unravel the truth - both of the events of the night her mother was murdered and of her past.
I like the pacing of this book and the toggle between the stories of Kat (25 years ago) and Eva (present day). The story then merges to one mind-blowing ending - I loved it!
Thanks to Christina McDonald, Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC.

McDonald's fast-paced emotional thriller had my attention from the first scene. Her character development is superb--a great read!

I received this ARC in return for an honest review. This was a quick read with the storyline quickly developing. While sympathy is earned for the main character Eva, there was always doubt about her memory. I think that is good writing. Her life is a lie, the people she trusted were lying to her and the end is completing surprising, but doesn't finalize until the end. Overall, a decent read worth the few hours it takes.

I was excited for this book because I had heard so many good things about it. I had a hard time finishing it, it just did not hold my interest, was quite predictable. Spoiler below.
It started off promising. Eva gets struck by lightning, wakes up in the hospital and then she is told she might have killed her mother. I did not care for most of the characters and I am done with unreliable narrators and rape as a plot point. I did not like all the different things that were going on, it was hard to follow and not in a good way while also being predictable. Would not recommend unless you're not sensitive to sexual assault, domestic violence and enjoying predictable thrillers.

Another twisty, suspense adventure from Christina McDonald! I love that she's woven into this thriller another mother-daughter theme, much like The Night Olivia Fell. McDonald has definitely established her style - opening the book with one of the final chapters to give us readers a glimpse of what is to come without having ANY backstory. We quickly learn that Eva's mother is dead - but we don't know how or why. Naturally, I immediately start trying to solve the mystery (then re-solve multiple times before I make my way to the end).

Slowly the story of Eva and her mother, Kat, are revealed layer by layer - told in alternating POVs. The reader is pulled along with Eva as she uncovers the truths of who she was and who she is now. As startling as each truth is, Eva is still faced with the fear that she most likely killed her mother. Poor Eva can't catch a break throughout this story, but she seemingly takes each blow with as much grace as she can muster and continues on to find the truth.

Overall, this was a quick read! The premise is a bit much, but that's what makes for a grippy, page turner!!
