Such a cute little story about friendship and the beauty in helping others. If I had kids, this is definitely a book I would read with them.

This was a beautifully written children's book. My kids and I really enjoyed it. I'm sure every family that gets their hands in it will love it as well.

A sweet picture book with adorable illustration and a very important lesson to teach.

I'm not a hundred percent sure, though, that it in fact works with actual little children. Can be, and I'm sure that with a couple of ones at least it does, but I'm not sure all little ones are already capable of completely getting it - and that would be the point.

I get the aim of the story, though, and I appreciate it. It's supposed to teach little kids about passing away and letting go. It's important to talk about, and especially hard to deal with it when we're supposed to talk about it with kids. Since I don't yet have my own little ones yet, I can't be sure, of course, and I'm not an expert by any means, I'm simply a bit uncertain if this story would actually work for them.

It's super cute, though, and I LOVE the illustrations.

The creatures in the forest have made a friend with Mr. Snowman but he is very cold and shivering. They decide to bring him scarves to keep him warm but, of course, soon he is too warm and begins to melt. The animals are so sad that that they have lost their friend but they are reminded that they always will have the joy and memory of their friend with them forever.

This is a very short story, brilliantly illustrated and beautifully written about friendship, caring, empathy and, ultimately, loss. These are emotions that young children often struggle with understanding and to see it illustrated in this book so basically is just wonderful. I shared it with two children who were 5 years old and it was perfect for them. They easily grasped the concept of losing a loved one but holding on the joy you are left with. I think this book is perfect for a family bookshelf.

This book shows how important a friendship can be, even if they cannot be together forever.

Squirrel sees snowman shivering out in the cold so he brings him a scarf. Soon, many of the forest animals are bringing scarfs and blankets to snowman. All of them play and play while the days become longer and warmer. One day, Squirrel sees just a pile of scarfs – snowman is gone but he remains in Squirrel and the other friend’s memories.

This book is written well, even a small child can understand it. It emphasizes what we can do for others. It also bids us to remember the good times when our friends are gone. The patchwork themed illustrations are cut and colorful. A fun book your child will want to read over and over.

I received an eARC from the publisher via Netgalley. Here is my honest review.

I love the illustrations - bold and colorful, just drew me in.
I also like the premise: helping those in need, giving something you have, friendship - all good messages. I am confused about why the snowman is cold...but we frequently add scarves and such to snowmen, so I kinda get it. Of course, as spring comes, the snowman melts and then the forest animals have to deal with loss. This is also a great topic to discuss with young children; I thought the message that "they are still with us" was good. But the ending seemed so abrupt.

This was such an adorable book about a lonely snowman and the squirrel that befriends him. The snowman is all alone and cold and the squirrel helps him by bringing him winter clothing and more friends. All the woodland creatures love the snowman until the warmth in the air is too much for the snowman.

The illustrations throughout were so vivid and fun, the little creatures and all the knit patterns were gorgeously done. The story is such a cute one that I think parents and young children will love. With lots of animals and a really nice theme about friendship but also a bit about loss, I think it has a lot to offer readers.

It is a simple and quick read with large vibrant images. A great book for the fall and winter.

A Warm Friendship by Ellen Delange is about friendship, sharing and caring, and saying goodbye. Squirrel comes across a snowman shivering in the snow. My grandson thought that was pretty silly because snowmen are made of snow so he shouldn't be cold, but I told him it was a story and this one wanted to be warm. Squirrel and his friends all decide to help and bring the snowman scarves and blankets to wrap up in. The illustrations of the animals bringing things and then snowman wrapped up are absolutely gorgeous, so bright and colourful. Eventually it gets warmer, spring arrives and the snowman is gone, there is nothing but a pile of scarves and blankets on the forest floor. Squirrel is sad and upset that his friend is gone. Wise Owl reminds him that we will always have memories of our friend and see him/her in the flowers and in the hearts of others who loved her friend.

This story has a couple of good messages. One of which is caring and loving one another. Do what you can to help a friend is a thing that everyone needs to hear as often as possible. The second message is about loss. Whether a friend or family member moves away, is too sick to play or unfortunately has passed on from this world, this story can be used. It is always sad when we lose a friend, but remembering to share memories with others and keeping them in your heart will help. My grandson immediately equated this story to his grandpa who is in heaven. He talked about pictures he can look at to help him remember and talking to his daddy or me, his grandma about things he did with grandpa. A wonderful story for families, schools and public libraries.

The illustrations in this were amazing, patch work art is always so cute in children stories. I did find the actual story itself leaving much to be desire it was cute and quick but not much substance to it.

This charming winter tale spins the story of a little Squirrel who looks out from her nest through the big snowflakes in the forest and sees something that she has never seen before. She discovers it's a Snowman. He's all alone and he's shaking all over from the freezing cold.

"Snowman looks up and whispers: "Help me, please... I'm so cold."
Squirrel is startled and quickly runs back into the tree.
Snowman sobs for help, but there's no one else around who can hear him."

Squirrel has a decision to make. Will she help him or just leave him outside shivering and pleading for help? Her compassionate heart comes up with a plan to save him from his anguish.

She comes to his rescue by bringing him a warm scarf to wrap up in... but wait...she's not alone... the other forest animals arrive too bringing more scarves and even a warm snuggly blanket to wrap around him.

Snowman is ever so grateful and he starts to smile because he now feels all cozy and warm. From that day on Squirrel and Snowman become fast friends. All the other animals come out and join them as they play. They all have great times together.

But as one season turns into the next so winter turns into spring and the sun gets higher in the sky. The snow on the ground begins to melt and unfortunately so does the Snowman. Oh my!

Will this be his demise? Will Snowman disappear forever and not be Squirrel's friend anymore? If that does happens how will she cope with the loss of her best friend?

This heartwarming story deals with friendship, empathy, caring, nurturing and loss. The detailed illustrations are sweet with rich vibrant colours that enrich the text. This book has so many components that can be shared and discussed and I highly recommend it.

A Warm Friendship by Ellen DeLange and illustrated by Jacqueline Molnar is all kinds of confusing. And after reading it, I found myself sitting in confusion, baffled as to what the purpose of this book was in the first place. Is it a message about grief and remembrance? Is it just a tale about the truths of snowmen? Does it not have one at all? Honestly, I can't tell because the logic of it is basically non-existent.

The story begins with a squirrel and a snowman and for some reason, the snowman is cold, out in the frosty winter where he lives. And so naturally the squirrel sees it as important to warm up the snowman--bringing him a scarf and all sorts of warm clothing to combat the chill. The other animals all help as well and a friendship blossoms between them and the snowman. But as always happens with snow, it's not quite meant to last.

And see, this is the thing I didn't get about the story. Why was the snowman cold? Where does that make even a sliver of sense? What was the purpose of the burgeoning friendship that we all know is going to end in what basically equates to the death of the snowman? Where was the actual thought and effort put into sending a message about grief? I just...wasn't all that impressed.

The artwork was decent, but nothing I'd be super excited about. Overall, I didn't really care for this one.

Kiddo picked this book based on the cover art. We both enjoyed the story. It's a feel-good message. The vibrant colors and patterns in the illustrations really help tell the story. We hand fun finding and naming the various animals hiding in the artwork.

Is squirrel willing to venture into the cold to make a new friend? Read this heart-warming tale to find out. The illustrations by Jacqueline Molnár perfectly echo the quilts that are wrapped around snowman's chilly shoulders. The beautiful brightly colored patchwork images create a distinctive atmosphere that set this book apart. A definite win for author, Ellen DeLange. Thanks to NetGalley for the free eGalley.

This is a fun, meaningful little kid book. I enjoy it as an adult and do not get bored with re-readings, I can’t really tell what the illustrations are like on the Net-Galley e-copy, but I think they seem appropriate with what I could see. The message is easily understood by children and it comes across well on the story while still being an entertaining story. I think this is a solid book and would recommend it for adults to read to the littles in their lives!

In 'A warm friendship' we meet cute and curious Squirrel that finds a lonely Snowman who's shaking and shivering in the cold. She comes up with a plan to help him. Not only does she bring him a woolen scarf, but she also encourages other animals to stop by and bring a scarf or a blanket to wrap around and warm the poor thing up. They become great friends, until the warm spring sun melts the snowman, and the squirrel is sad to see that all that is left is a colourful pile of scarves. Wise Owl reminds Squirrel that she can see Snowman in every flower and leaf, as well as other animals' hearts who also loved her little friend.
Sometimes we make friends for a brief time and then move on, and we have to learn to be kind to each other, even if we are in a temporary situation. There are many different ways of explaining this story, which is essentially about caring for each other while we are together and sometimes having to let it go, without forgetting your friend.
The illustrations by Jacqueline Molnar are sweet and adorable.
