I loved the storytelling in this book as it showcase Frida's life in an easy way for kids. I also really loved the beatiful and colourful illustrations, especially as it fitted to Frida's artwork.

Vibrant, quirky and a little fantastical, Brownridge and Dieckmann’s retelling of Frida’s life and legacy in this pretty little book is easily accessible and draws the reader into the world of this Mexican icon naturally and simply. Kahlo’s multi-faceted personality, her struggles and triumphs, all are wonderfully presented in a child-friendly manner while staying interesting and inviting to the adult reader, and both my child and I enjoyed reading through and admiring the bright illustrations. Having heard her name and seen her work often, while being unfamiliar with her story, this was a wonderful way to get acquainted with this strong and passionate artist.

It was fantastic to see her real artwork being featured in the pictures, and the small annotated gallery at the end of the book are a great way to get talking about Kahlo’s paintings and the themes she drew inspiration from. This volume would be a great addition to the art non-fiction section of any library with a young borrower base, and I hope to see many more additions to the series.

This lovely book is intended for children and serves as a brief introduction to the life, work and legacy of Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo.

Its text is simple, befitting its young audience and incorporates a number of her paintings into its lovely illustrations. Although my preview was in low resolution, I have seen some images from the finished edition and they are exquisite, bursting with the kind of vibrant colours and rich symbolism used by Frida in her art.

I consider Kahlo not only a great artist but an inspiration given her resilience in the face of her illnesses and the legacy of her accident. Given that this is a children’s book the less conventional aspects of her marriage are not mentioned.

I applaud the publishers for commissioning this series of artist biographies and seeking to encourage an appreciation of art in younger readers. A wonderful resource for parents and teachers.

Just perfection.

A gorgeous portrait of Frida Kahlo, in the form of a nonfiction picture book for children. I found the art so stunning to look at even while reading a digital galley: vivid jewel-tones and expressive imagery that does its best to capture Friday's spirit. At the end, there's a list of her most famous paintings and a brief mention of the circumstances of the creation of each. Would make a great gift for the Frida fan of any age.

This was an awesome introduction to Frida Kahlo! While this written for a younger age group, there I still lots of information that adults may not know!

This was a well executed book, made for children but also for the true Frida Kahlo fanatic. The graphics are beautiful, and true to Fridas style. I highly recommend this book to anyone of any age.

This was a great book all about the artist Frida Kahlo. This book is very colorful and easy to read. The art in the book is done in the style of Frida Kahlo which really made it interesting and fun. It is full of interesting facts like because she was sick as a child, her father made her an easel that she could use to paint while lying down. I really enjoyed this book and think it would be great for any child who likes biographies, art, or just learning about new things.

A beautiful illustrated book for children and teenagers (but not only) narrating the beautiful life of Frida Kahlo.

The peculiarity of this book is that the life of the artist is narrated using her artworks.
I particularly appreciated the fact that the personality of Frida is strongly highlighted: it helps to portray her not only as a unique character but also as someone to learn and take inspiration from, a great role model for future generations.

Another excellent book in this series! It’s perfect for budding artists and any other older elementary child looking to learn more about the arts. The illustrations are all in the style of Frida Kahlo, adding to the overall mood. The lists found at the end of facts and her most famous paintings are a helpful resource. Highly recommended!

This is a beautifully illustrated children's book about the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The book manages to tell the story of her life in a simple yet captivating way. The illustrations are bright and beautiful just like Frida's paintings and convey the way in which Frida lived her life to the full despite having to deal with health problems and injuries.

We are told a story about a gifted woman who refused to be discouraged by life or corralled by cultural or societal expectations. I enjoyed reading this so much that it is going on my list of exquisite reads of 2019.

This an excellent book, telling us about the life of a talented and excellent artist. It will be a wonderful gift for any child or adult, and having read it I now want to know more about Frida.

A simple but well-written artist's biography for children

Tells the story of symbolist artist Frida Kahlo in a way easy for children to understand, with excellent, bright illustrations by Sandra Dieckmann. Shows the artist's most famous paintings and explains clearly and concisely why she made them. Also demonstrates Kahlo's resilience during her childhood illness and the power of art in the healing process. An excellent book for children of primary/junior school age with an interest in art.

Oh my God, this book is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The full page illustrations are absolutely divine and are easily the best part about this simple, short biography of the life of Frida Kahlo as an artist. I want to rip out the pages to put on my wall!! (Thankfully I received a digital copy so I can easily resist the temptation of this sacrilege).

The writing is nice and simple to understand for the young reader, although the text does seem to be a bit small in my opinion. However, this may be because I read this book in digital form and the formatting might have been a bit off. I personally would say this book is great for readers aged 6-10 based on what my own literacy level as a child was. And suitable for younger readers if read aloud! Although this book is marketed for children, I absolutely think this would make a great coffee table book too.

My only criticisms of this book are perhaps the lack of commentary surrounding her ideological beliefs. Whilst I realise this is a book for children, it would have been nice to see how her legacy has lived on as an icon for feminist, LGBT, and Mexican civil rights movements. Her political involvement is a big part of what she's known for, although I understand that this may be too hard to explain in a book for children.

Overall, I would definitely say that I learnt a few things from this book! It was very informative in an easy to understand way. If your child is interested in learning about important artists, or you just love pretty illustrations, this is the book for you!

This was magic! Although I know quite a bit about Frida Kahlo I wasn’t bored reading this book that was written for children. The illustrations were absolutely stunning and I loved reading the small analyses of her paintings in the back!

This book is a winner. The illustrations are so beautiful and vibrant and the inclusion of copies of Frida's real paintings is a lovely touch. I think this is a good introduction to Frida and it does include a few hints about some of the more upsetting aspects of Frida's life while not dwelling on them. I'm sure this book will inspire lots of children to be determined to succeed and overcome obstacles. This was absolutely adorable. I liked it just as much as the Van Gogh one. Despite a degree in art history, I don't actually know that much about Frida Kahlo (due to mainly focusing on European art in my studies), so I went into this looking for a charming interpretation of her life but also to learn about it. And I think it did that wonderfully. The illustrations were perfect, and I think they emanated her style of art very well, so that everything was colourful and very Frida Kahlo-esque. I like that they still covered difficult moments in Frida's life, in a way that small children could understand while not simply glossing over it. I would definitely buy this book for a young child in my life and would look forward to reading it with them and learning about Frida together. It is a wonderful book to share.

In this beautifully written and well-illustrated book, readers are introduced to the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and how she overcame obstacles to succeed as a well-recognized, successful artist with her own exhibition in New York City and her worked purchased by the Louvre in Paris. A fine choice for introducing the artist to young children because it gives readers a sense of the times in which she lived and her unique artistic style.

A simplified, but well written and well told story of the life of Frida Kahlo.

Each page of her life has a piece of her artwork, and in the end of the book, the pieces are explained.

Since this is a children's book, her relationship with Diego Rivera is factual, without going into the affairs that each of them had outside of marriage.
