3.5 stars - This paranormal romantic suspense is in line with other books this author has written, and while it was good I've felt like I had read it before. Maybe I've been reading too many of this author's books as she writes under multiple names. I enjoyed it, just didn't love it.

Secret government facilities, psychic testing and hot artifacts quickly pulled me into this captivating tale. Slater also has abilities and had some recent trouble which I found rather intriguing.

The chemistry between Catalina and Slater was present from the start and only intensified as they began working the case. Danger, nail-biting escapes and discoveries soon brought these two together. Krentz is skilled at making me fall for her characters and their romance. This was no exception. I was quickly rooting for this pair and hoping they would not only stop the bad guys but would find a little happy too.

Full review will post at Caffeinated Reviewer on January 6th and will be cross-posted on Amazon & Goodreads. Link will be uplifted on all social media.

The Vanishing is an interesting mystery debut of a new series. I noticed similarities between this and Krentz' other books. Overall, the book kept my interest but I would consider it paranormal romance light. The plot lacks more world building depth and some of the characters come across as superficial. Hoping this will change as the series progresses.

Jayne Ann Krentz are comfort reads for me in that they follow a familiar arch with fairly similar characters. This is not a bad thing at all in my world. I particularly like her paranormal romances and this one hit the spot for me.

I have been a fan of Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle’s sci-fi/fantasy work for a long time, and this first novel in her new Fogg Lake Series delivers as always. The blend of crime solving, science fiction and fantasy world building made this a book I couldn’t put down. The combination of murder mystery, paranormal investigation and romance means the psychic energy isn't the only thing running hot! The mystery provided just enough twists and turns to keep you hooked, but was solvable...the author doesn't rely on surprise hidden endings to keep her plots running. The characters were a bit archetypal, but they work in the world of Fogg Lake and the series opener offers plenty of time for more development and more exploration of the unique phenomenon surrounding the central town and its inhabitants. I will be keeping an eye out for further books in this series and recommending this for our library collection.

A fun paranormal romance/suspense series starter! Cat and Olivia are just establishing a PI business that utilizes but doesn’t advertise the best friends’ paranormal abilities—derived from a large-scale accident at a government agency in their hometown of Fogg Lake—when Olivia goes missing. Slater Arganbright arrives on scene to help Cat find her. Shadowy organizations, ruthless murderers, and a lot of questions to be answered. It’s just a perfectly Krentz novel—a fun, and funny (mostly dry humor) romance, and an interesting mystery.

I had hoped to like this book. I have been enjoying suspense books a lot as of late. Sadly, The Vanishing didn't keep my attention. It was all a little to slow for me. I had to add this book to my DNF list. I do hope that others will enjoy and love this book. It just was not for me.

The Vanishing is reminiscent of the Archane books under Amanda Quick. I find her paranormal world interesting and enjoyed reading a modern day setting. Catalina and Slater meet when Catalina asks for help when her best friend is kidnapped. As they work the case together they have a hard time ignoring the literal sparks that fly between them. While finding Olivia takes priority, their relationship grows as clues are uncovered and followed. I really liked this story, am satisfied with the ending, and look forward to more from Fogg Lake.

A murder witnessed by Catalina and Olivia when they were teenagers has come to the surface after 15 years, and neither of the girls knows they are in danger.

Well...Catalina realizes something is up when Olivia is kidnapped.

The girls have a unique skill since an explosion in their town had occurred when they were teenagers....they have psychic abilities and see auras.

Hopefully their abilities will be able to save Olivia and will guide Catalina to her.

We follow the characters and the story line in this sleepy town of Fogg Lake that doesn't have access to technology, and we meet many psychics and hope that Olivia is found.

I am not really into the paranormal genre, but there was enough suspense and mystery to keep my attention and to keep me reading.

Those readers who enjoy this genre will definitely be treated to an excellent book. 4/5

This book was given to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The Vanishing by Jayne Ann Krentz is the 1st book in her new Fogg Lake series. The story begins around 40 years ago in the small town of Fogg Lake, when an explosion caused various effects on many of the residents; such as visions, auras and other paranormal things. The community kept to itself, not revealing anything about those strange effects; leaving the town bare of updated mechanics, such as wifi, computers, cell phones, as the dense fog blocked those signals.

We pick up with Catalina Lark and Olivia Dayton, best friends who grew up in Fogg Lake, and now work together in Seattle running a private investigative firm; both have the sight, and use those abilities to help in their line of work. Both Cat and Olivia were involved years before, as teenagers, in an incident in one the caves in Fogg Lake, where they witnessed a murder, and managed to escape the murderer by going deep into the strange vibes of the cave. The town convinced them that they had been hallucinating due to the gases in the cave and the matter was dropped.

Now in present time, Cat is worried, as Olivia has disappeared. Enter Slater Arganbright, who is the nephew of the head of The Foundation, which monitors supernatural things. Slater is a scientist, and also has unique and similar abilities as Cat. She wants nothing to do with the Arganbrights, as they caused her grief in her business, but desperate for help finding Olivia, she agrees to team up with Slater. They come to the conclusion that someone from the past, specifically the murderer from the incident years before, who is looking for both Olivia and Cat. This will lead them back to Fogg Lake, as they race against time to find Olivia, and discover who and what in the past is hell bent on destroying them. They will discover that there are dangerous things in the caves, that involve government experiments.

What follows is an exciting and intense adventure, with Slater and Cat working very well together. It was nice to see a romance slowly build over their time together; I really liked both Cat and Slater. To tell too much more would be spoilers. The Vanishing is a fast-paced suspenseful mystery thriller, with supernatural elements that add to the storyline. Jayne Ann Krentz once again gives us a great start to a new trilogy, which I look forward to reading the next book. If you enjoy suspense mysteries, great couple and a dose of supernatural, you need to read this new series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Berkeley for sharing the advanced reader copy. Unfortunately, I stopped after about 4 chapters. There was too much explaining going on. Up until this point, I felt that the characters basically stood around explaining to each other about things that had happened in their past, that both speakers already knew about! I’ve seen reviewers complain about “too much telling, not enough showing” before and I think that sums up my feelings here.

This was an entertaining story, and I liked most of it, but there were also a few things that I didn't care for. Paranormal romance is not a genre that I typically read, but I have enjoyed a few historical romances that this author writes as Amanda Quick, so I thought I would give this one a try. The romance moved way too fast for me, and the outcome of that romance in the last chapter felt unnecessary, although it could very well be the sort of outcome that some romance readers are looking for. The villains were a bit too cartoonish. A minor annoyance, that I hope might still get edited, was the constant use of "the twin" or "the triplet" every time certain characters were mentioned, when their status as a twin/triplet had no bearing on the situation at hand. I'm not sure if I will continue to read the series or not.

This book was a whirlwind. Krentz really thought through every angle and detail making the reader immerse themselves fully into the invents of the book. The relationship between Catalina and Olivia was so genuine and real and I felt everything as the story grew. The author created an amazing back ground story, I couldn't put this read down!

Catalina's best friend has disappeared, and even she- a private investigator with more than a touch of paranormal abilities- could use some help finding Olivia before it's too late.
Enter Slater Arganbright, the nephew of the head of a shadowy organization that Catalina has had run ins with before. Reluctantly, Catalina agrees to team up with the handsome, and well connected stranger, who appears to have some talent of his own.
Following clues that lead them to Fogg Lake, her childhood town, Catalina fears that a dangerous incident from her and Olivia's past might have connections to her best friends current situation.

The supernatural elements, well paced mystery, entertaining byplay and heat between the two main characters, as well as the deliciously atmospheric town of Fogg Lake make this a winning first entry in a new trilogy.

The Vanishing by Jane Ann Krentz was a fun fast read. I read it in what felt like seconds. Two woman who grew in up in a special town now live in the big city. They have their own places and have started a new company which is taking off. Olivia, one of the friends goes missing, The friend left behind, Catalina, coincidentally meets a stranger from an organization she does not trust. The stranger, Slater, came to Catalina for help but it looks like they need each other to solve a missing person case and some murders.

I love Jayne Ann Krentz and did enjoy this book. My biggest problem with the book was almost too short and something was missing. I cannot explain what was missing but I remember being 50% through and feeling like that went too fast. I really did like this book because I love Krentz's world.

Thank You to Netgalley and Berkley for a free copy. This is an honest review.

I really enjoy the characters in this series. It was funny to see our Gunnie trying to be what the town of Sally expected for a women. I wish Lisbeth and Eli's relationship was easier for the both of them. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I enjoyed Krentz's latest as a long-time fan, but there's not much new ground here. If you enjoy her books dealing with psychic phenomena and romantic suspense, then you're in familiar territory.

So, I have to admit that I haven't read many novels by Jayne Ann Krentz. The Vanishing is a quick paced paranormal romantic suspense with an interesting storyline revolving around experiments that took place
at Fogg Lake. Looking forward to seeing more of Cat, Slater and the history of the foundation. Thank you NetGalley!

The start of a new a Jayne Ann Krentz series is always cause for rejoicing, and The Vanishing is a terrific beginning.

Collectors of paranormal artifacts from long-hidden research labs are being murdered. And now a young woman who might have found one of those labs has been kidnapped. Her friend and business partner must team up with a Cleaner from The Foundation to find her and the link to all these crimes.

Krentz paints paranormal worlds in a manner that make them totally normal to the reader. She is a master of the genre, and we’ll worth the read. Highly recommended.

I absolutely loved this book. The only problem I had with the book was the length! I finished the book in three hours and just wanted more.
