Classic Jayne Ann Krentz story with intrigue, action, and fast-paced plot with paranormal overtones. I liked how Catalina's backstory explained how an entire town gained paranormal powers. Those acknowledged powers made them feel accepted versus being in the outside world made them hide their powers which is an interesting entry in the genre. I look forward to the next books.

Loved this book. The characters are likable and never boring. Enjoyed the paranormal elements and the back story. Looking forward to the next book.

This fits in well with her other books but also stands alone. She has strong female characters (and male ones too) and even her minor characters are well conceived. The setting was different and I enjoyed the way the town and their interactions were described.

Catalina and Olivia are not normal, and neither is the town they grew up in. However, they have found a formula for using their talents and surviving out in the real world, away from their hometown. Now, someone has come after them, and it all has to do with something they witnessed in the caves back home over 15 years ago. Can Catalina join forces with Slater, from the mysterious Foundation, and find Olivia in time? Will the pull she feels for Slater blind her to the truth, or lead her to her destiny? A great book for fans of paranormal mystery, and some steamy romance thrown in as well.

I think I may have reached the point where I’ve read so many Jayne Ann Krentz books under her different names that I’ve reached the point of super saturation. This was a good read, as I always know I will have from a Krentz novel, but it also reads as another Arcane Society vs Nightshade story, only the different groups are now The Foundation and Vortex.

Thank you netgalley for the ARC.

I always like Krentz's books, and this one is no different - some might say it should be *more* different, and while I agree her books are pretty formulaic, the good news for me is that I love her formula. Especially for the fact that instead of tearing her characters apart before they can be together at the end, she brings them together to face a malevolent outside force. I have always appreciated that aspect of Krentz/Quick/Castle's books.

Full review to be published online in mid January.

THE VANISHING is the first book in the new 'Fogg Lake' series by Jayne Ann Krentz. It's her trademark combination of paranormal mystery and a romance, and works...for the most part. The main character, Catalina, can see auras due to her family's chemical exposure in some type of "incident" years earlier. Her best friend and partner, Olivia, also has paranormal powers. The book is centered around Olivia's kidnapping and Catalina's race against time to find her. Throughout the book Catalina has help from a variety of interesting characters, including a love interest from the mysterious and not very trustworthy "Foundation".

Good start to a new series by a favorite author. JAK's fans will enjoy.

If the book says Jayne Ann Krentz wrote it - I'll read it. I love the paranormal touch to the romance. There is action and romance and such a good read!

Couldn't finish this one. For the past few years, it seems as though JAK has a template for her contemporary books and she merely changes the character names and their paranormal abilities. I have followed her for many years, but will probably change this.

This book is an excellent start to Krentz's latest series. With her signature blend of the paranormal and normal, Krentz has created a world where the fallout from government experiments decades ago come to service when murders and a kidnapping lead back to the event of 15 years ago. Like all Krentz novels, once you start reading it's hard to stop. I can't wait for the next Fogg Lake novel!

Another fine addition to this author's body of work. For some reason I had a tough time getting into the flow at the beginning but it came to a statisfying end like all Krentz's stories. Although it was a fun read, nothing stood out as new or innovative from all her other contemporary paranormal novels. A good read for fans of this author or for new readers looking for a paranormal thriller. My thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for access to an ARC.

Caterina and Olivia had a harrowing experience as teens and now as adults they use their instincts as investigators. When Olivia suddenly disappears, Caterina has to investigate. ARC.

This was such a good book I didn't want to put it down. While it follows the same general outline of Jayne Ann Krentz novels, it didn't feel stale or boring. Once I started I didn't want to stop and I wished I keep reading about Olivia after the book was over. I can't wait for the next one.

Yay! Krentz is back! The last few Krentz's have been...well, kind of lackluster...but in The Vanishing she's back in fine form. I was also super pleased that she's back to the psychic powers plots, which I have to admit I really missed. In the Vanishing, Krentz introduces a new setting to her world, Fogg Lake, which has lots of mysteries just begging to be explored. I flew through this book and can't wait for the rest of the Fogg Lake series!

The Vanishing is definitely a great start to a paranormal detective series, but I do feel that the romance in the novel seemed forced and unnecessary to the storyline. I enjoyed the central, paranormal mystery of the novel and the intrigue of the paranormal research firm called the Foundation and town of Fogg Lake. I hope to see a continuation of this story that further explains the history of the organizations mentioned.

There is a reason that Jayne Ann Krentz continues to be a forever favorite of mine and the VANISHING is no different.

This was a fun if fairly predictable book. It is very much in the same style of all Jayne Ann Krentz's books so if you like that style and feel you will like this book.

OMG this book was fabulous. I couldn't put it down. Waiting forever for a book like this from Krentz. She is so talented and her characters are so true to life/love. Can't wait for the next.

I've been a Jayne Ann Krentz fan forever. I sincerely hope this is the beginning of a new series. Lots of intrigue, paranormal adventures, likeable characters, a smidge of a cliff hanger (can't wait for the next one). Who could ask for anything more?

Jayne Ann Krentz is an automatic buy. I don't even bother reading the blurb anymore. Just click that order button and then wait for my book to come in the mail. That's right. I'm paying hardcover prices for Krentz books. That should tell you how much I adore them. Of course, it's part nostalgia given that she was the author who turned me onto the romance genre as a whole.

No one writes romantic suspense like Krentz. Heck, no one writes like Krentz in general. It doesn't matter if she's writing as Jayne Ann Krentz, Amanda Quick, Jayne Castle, Stephanie James, or Jayne Taylor (that's a new pen name I just discovered). If you're wondering if she regrets all those pen names, the answer is yes.

Like I said, I didn't scan the blurb before I began reading, which is always a weird sensation... going into a book with nothing but the title to guide you. I love it and hate it simultaneously. When I started reading and realized that we were delving into Krentz's world of psychic abilities I started grinning because there is nothing better than a romantic suspense paired with psychics who can solve crimes, kill people, and protect themselves with their abilities. No rules, no limits, no boundaries.

The heroes and heroines in Krentz's follow a predictable character structure. The women are intelligent, strong, stubborn, and brave. The men are serious, surly, and protective of their women. But I've read most--and I do mean most--of Krentz's novels and I never get bored of them. Catalina has no interest in being used by the Arganbright family, not again, and she doesn't care that Slater has every nerve in her body awakening. She's still not going to let him walk all over her. And Slater is slightly damaged following a psychic shock, but that doesn't mean he's unable to keep his woman safe. He's also not going to stand in her way--Krentz heroes rarely do (in her more modern works, at least).

The Vanishing is brilliant because you have all this angst and drama and tension and danger, but it's not within Slater and Catalina's relationship. You never doubt them. You're not subjected to internal strife or fights, but rather you're focused entirely on the outside mystery and the burgeoning love between the hero and heroine (also, I pride myself on guessing the ends of books and movies--I guessed the end to Big Little Lies on episode 2, but I can never quite figure out Krentz's mysteries, so there's that...). Sometimes I like that kind of drama, but there's also a comfort that comes in being 100% confident about the romance.

All in all this is a fabulous start to what is sure to be a very mysterious romantic suspense series. I'm loving the new plots and characters and swoons. If you love the paranormal there is no doubt you'll love what Krentz has to offer both in general and in The Vanishing.
