Mini Review: This was a really interesting book that I think is great for readers of all ages! History is my favorite subject, and I learned some things I didn't know before, which is always nice. (Including things about Julia Child!) I also really appreciated the fact that women who helped with WWII were featured. I would definitely recommend checking this book out!

This book contains tidbits of WWII history in the form of spies and subterfuge. Many of the people and events are ones adult readers would be familiar with but these short, accessible nuggets would be fun for middle school readers. The tone is light overall without losing the fact that it was a war. I can think of a handful of students I could give this to right away.

Swanson does an incredible job of pacing in this book. She includes enough details so the segments are relevant, interesting, and compelling but keeps the reader moving along in the book so it feels like a quick read. I appreciated that she kept most of her stories to the World War II timeline while still “ chunking” them into convenient categories. Very good for readers just being introduced to the topic or those who are familiar but want those “truth is stranger than fiction” type of nuggets.
