Didn't let me down at all, it had some of my favorite trops that I like in my stories, which is like the set up in And then there was none where a group of people meet up, and one by one something happens to them.

Very intriguing setup for a novel, and the story worked rather well. Why does only one person make it to the other side? You'll have to read the book to find out!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.

Once I read the blurb, I knew i HAD to read this book.
Six students went into the tunnel on a boat.... only 1 returned. When the boat emerges from the tunnel, only one student, Matthew is on board... knocked unconscious and cannot recall anything that's happened. The police think he murdered the five others and stashed their bodies. But awaiting trial, Matthew maintains his innocence.
Is it possible he murdered five students and hid their bodies?! If not, who did this? Why did they leave Matthew alive?

What a suspenseful read

This book was entertaining, though I think it could have been better. I'm not sure how, but I still give it a 3 for decent.

Description
Six went in…only one came out. The Standedge Tunnel, the longest canal tunnel in England, has become one of the rural village of Marsden’s main tourist attractions. Now it’s also a crime scene. Six students went into the tunnel on a private boat. Two and a half hours later, the boat reappeared at the other end of the tunnel carrying only one of the students, Matthew. He had been knocked unconscious and has no memory of what took place in the tunnel. The police suspect he killed his friends, hid the bodies and later moved them to an undisclosed location. But sitting in a cell awaiting trial, Matthew maintains his innocence. When Matthew contacts a famous author asking him for help in return for information he claims to possess about the author’s long-lost wife, it’s an offer that can’t be refused. But before the author can prove Matthew’s innocence, he must first answer a far more unusual question: How did five bodies disappear into thin air?

My Review:
Now You See Me is the first book I have read by this author. It was a bit intense and I believe that was done on purpose, so good for the author. So what happened to the missing people?

The story is about Robin an author and his missing wife, Samantha. Robin receives a mysterious phone call that changes everything. If you want to find out what really happened to Samantha, then I suggest you read the novel.

This ARC copy was provided in exchange for my honest opinion. Therefore, I recommend you read this book, it's great.

3 for neutral, I was really excited to dig into this book, but just could not get into it no matter how many times I tried, I just could not get into it, I know I’m a very moody reader, so it defiantly could be me, and if it’s that, I’ll update it able to get into it and enjoy it!

Sigh.

Never my favorite component included in a solve: “I’ve been a secret sociopath this WHOLE time!”

This is, in a way, a fun read. The premise was excellent and some of the logistics of the plot were clever. But everything about the way this resolved? Not good.

Much of the problem was predictability. I guessed both of the major twists in the story, and I doubt I’m alone in that. It’s pretty easy to figure out the who and the why of the mystery very early on, and once you do that, you’ll see everything else coming.

That alone probably wouldn’t have ruined the book, but a predictable solve that isn’t even a good one is tough to get past, even if the process of getting there is entertaining.

Add in the whole secret sociopath element, the spontaneous manifestation of sociopathic tendencies in other characters to accompany it, and an absurd feat of pretend engineering, and you have a novel that had huge potential but instead ends up being an eye roll.

An interesting magic trick...now you see it, now you don't. But can you do the trick with 5 people? No slight of hand can make 5 friends disappear without a trace.
Two separate missing person cases; an author's wife is missing and the disappearance of the 5 friends. They seem to have nothing in common until the main suspect in his friend's disappearance contacts the author for help. How they are connected and how the cases resolve themselves is definitely an original concept. The setting, characters and back story of NOW YOU SEE ME made this book a good read all around.

This was entertaining

First book I’ve read by this author, very good writing and quite a cast of characters! It is an interesting mystery that has a great setting (actually googling it for pictures I came across a lot of spooky stories and urban legends which was fun).

There were so many twists and red herrings in this story. I didn’t have it figured out in the slightest. Having said that, do I think it was entirely plausible? Some parts, I guess. Maybe in the UK a police chief could lead an investigation into his missing children?? In the US, they would have removed him immediately. Also, the way the story was covered up was so odd... There’s more but it would lead to spoilers.

How everything was pieced together was quite clever. How everyone ended up connecting was something else! It was strange and very sad. I would read more by this author.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and HARLEQUIN - Trade Publishing (U.S. & Canada) for a copy in exchange for a review.

Robin’s wife Sam disappears, then he gets a phone call from a prisoner with information only Sam could know. Now the adventure begins. So many twists and turns. Amazingly thrilling until the very end.

Interesting mystery that leaves you guessing. This novel is written with multiple points of views and relates the story from a past and present timeline. We initially follow the quest of a tormented writer searching for his missing wife to the mysterious phone call of a young man accused of a crime he didn't commit. While the story is intriguing the ending was not as climactic. Entertaining nonetheless.

Six people went in. Only one came out...

Whoever writes the blurbs for Chris McGeorge's books needs to get a raise! I read those blurbs and I immediately have to acquire his books. And those blurbs induce extremely high expectations but he hasn't failed to deliver yet. I start reading his book and I see or hear nothing else around me until its over. A tornado could come through and I would happily be reading away in my own little world. If I had the talent and creativity to write a book, which I don't, but if I did, I would want my books to grab the readers attention a year before the book's even published and have that book in the back of their mind until they absolutely must spend some of their money (or acquire on NetGalley : )) to see what that book's all about.
Needless to say, I loved the book but I'm not going to go into the plot. It's better that you read it and hopefully enjoy it for yourself as I did.
Now the wait begins... to see what attention grabbing story and headline he comes out with next. I know I'll be stalking the author's pages until I see it.

Now You See Me is an eerie mystery that held my attention from beginning to end. I loved the major twists and turns and was really excited to see that the ending was unexpected! I have read so many mystery and thriller books in my day that nothing seems to surprise me anymore but this book DID. I recommend it!

Thriller time. New author to me, but this is actually his third book. Intriguing concept, practically a tagline (one that gets plenty of mileage throughout the book)…six went in, one came out. So if you do the math (and apparently 4 out of 3 people struggle with that), but basically that leaves 5 unaccounted for. Collectively known as Standedge Five, these are five young men and women, adored in the small town they are from, the community absolutely devastated by their disappearance. Despite lack of evidence or even a plausible scenario as to the logistics of it all, the one that came out (the local boy who was friendly with the 5 but lacked their ambition and appeal) becomes the main suspect. Somehow his only hope is a recently published author, grieving the disappearance of a beloved wife 3 years ago. Turns out the suspect received a phone message from the wife immediately prior to her disappearance, which gives his some leverage to request assistance in overturning the charges. And so now, an emotionally devastated man has to travel to a small town to investigate a seemingly impossible crime. Sure, he won’t end up going at it alone, there’s a 20 year old computer wiz hanging out, looking for a story also, but it’ll still be a difficult and very dangerous journey. So there you have it, all the makings of a proper mystery thriller. The narrative (refreshingly enough) mostly stays in the present with some deviations to recent past toward the end. The characters are well developed and dimensional. The mystery and suspense both are maintained pretty consistently throughout and the reveals occur as they are meant to, in the end. The evil young people angle has been done before, many times, not to mention the I Know What You Did Last Summer thing, but that wasn’t really even a detractor. If this novel had any, it was a certain lack of logic to the final revelation. It has a good ta da surprise quality to it, but if you pause to think about, the motivations don’t really work….as in yeah, ok, you did that and then what? What did you think would be next? Why is that the timeline you worked with? Things like that. Maybe I overthink this. I’m certainly prone to overthinking things. But aside from all that, the book worked and I really did enjoy it. It was just the sort of story I was in the mood for and found it immersive and intriguing. Without being hampered by critical thinking and dragged down by insistence on strict adherence to logic, this boat absolutely floats…until its passengers mysteriously disappear that is. Entertaining read. Thanks Netgalley.

On the heels of McGeorge's locked room mystery Guess Who? comes another similar "locked room" type book. His storytelling and mystery unfolding keeps getting better, the whole "missing without a trace" trope is my absolute favorite--and this book has it covered!

There are two sets of mysteries in this book--what happened to Robin's wife Sam when she disappeared on a business trip, and what happened to the Standedge Five--a group of five young adults who entered a canal tunnel and disappeared before coming out the other side? Both seem unrelated, but Robin gets a phone call that indicates to him that they might be connected somehow.

Overall, this is a solid book. There are some clunky parts and it does drag a bit in the middle and requires a bit of suspension of disbelief. The setting is wonderfully described so I could clearly picture every part of the story as it unfolded. I couldn't even begin to puzzle out in my mind what had happened to the missing people, but when all was revealed, it makes perfect sense.

I look forward to seeing what Chris McGeorge comes up with next!

Now you see me by Chris McGeorge, an interesting Thriller read. Six people go into a Canal Tunnel but only One comes out and he has been hit in the head appearing to suffer from a concussion.

Six went in. Only one came out. Now you see them — now you don’t. He had no idea where they went, but he was going to find out.” Now You see me is a unique and cleverly crafted locked room , or should I say locked tunnel mystery. How could 5 people literally disappear. It’s obvious to everyone in the village of Marsden that Matthew killed them, but did he really? How could he have possibly done it and why? I was hooked from the very first page, but do have to say I liked the book so much better before the mystery was revealed. Once the mystery was revealed, it just lost some of its appeal and was pretty straight forward from there. I was hoping for some kind of BIG twist that never came. All in all it was a very good read and I would love to see Robin and Sally work together in future cases (I felt like there might have been a hint of that in the final pages).

What could have happened? Six college students go into England’s longest tunnel canal. Only one comes out in the new puzzler, Now You See Me.

The five bodies are never found. Despite the lack of evidence, Matthew is accused of murder and sent to jail to await his trial. Matthew reaches out to Robin, a former journalist and author, whose wife has been missing for three years. Matthew had spoken to the missing wife years earlier. She told him to call Robin if he ever needed help. And he certainly needs it now.

So begin the surprises throughout Now You See Me, where absolutely nothing is as it seems at first glance. I really enjoyed this “locked room” mystery. And I believe most thriller readers will too. The answers to some of the questions are very clever. I won’t say more so you can delight in the secrets as they are revealed. 4 stars!

A good, slow burn mystery with a fantastically shocking twist at the end! Read it while curled up on a stormy day with a cup of tea.
