A refreshing thriller that was fast paced and intriguing from start to finish. I read this book in one go in one sitting and as a common reader of thrillers I still found myself surprised at some of the occurrences in the novel. What's stopping me from being able to rate it higher was that I just felt like some elements of the novel fell flat, the plot was well-fleshed out but the side characters fell flat for me and seemed to be one-dimensionally developed. However I will say I LOVED Pippa, and I think was the perfect protagonist and to me was quite reminiscent of Veronica Mars. The mixed media element provided for a change of pace and I thought was well done and added to the development of the story.

I loved this book. I think it was an excellent murder mystery with likable characters who were easy to connect to. I liked Pip's motivation for looking into the case. It wasn't just a morbid fascination, it was someone she cared out. I really enjoyed the third person narration mixed with the first person Capstone project. I did think at some points pieces in the capstone were over shared, but it worked narratively.

There were a few bits, especially toward the end when the first killer was revealed that I had to suspend belief for. There was a lot of rich white girl privilege happening in the house in New Caanon.

But besides a few things that, like, wouldn't happen in a real police investigation, I found this book riveting and exciting. I will be recommending it to my friends who love mystery books.

As someone who listens to ALOT of true crime podcasts, this was a gem. It ticked all the boxes, and brought out all the emotions that a good podcast does, except I didn't have to wait for the next installment. This was a one sitting read for me and the ending was so satisfying.

Pippa Fitz-Amobi has been intrigued about the mystery of Andie Bell for as long as she can remember. So much so, that she has decided to make it the subject of her senior capstone project. The capstone project is required of all seniors at her school as a way to showcase their skills before they graduate.

Admittedly, I would be more then a little nervous if I was Pippa’s teacher and she came to me with solving a murder as the subject of her project. Pippa never does anything halfway so she is very thorough when it comes to how she tackles this project. It’s been five years since the alleged crime initially occurred so to say the trail is cold would be an understatement. So, how much trouble could she get into? As it turns out, quite a lot!

I strongly suggest you pick up this novel as soon as you are able. Not just because it is one of my very few five-star reviews, but also because it is SUCH a good mystery. Being that it is done as part of a school project makes the telling of the story more interesting. One of the aspects being journal entries where she sums up what she knows thus far as well as ponder questions she has like possible motives or how truthful she believes someone is being. Plus I also enjoyed the aspects of the novel related to Sal Singh’s brother, Ravi. Sal, was the boyfriend of Andie Bell and someone who everyone in town believes committed the crime. Ravi is looking to clear his name,

4.5 Stars!

I think the best way to assess a murder mystery is by how well it surprises you. On that scale, this book more than delivered. This was a complex and layered mystery where the twists just kept on coming and were completely unpredictable.
Can't wait for book 2!

Pippa Fitz-Amobi is going to solve a murder. A murder that was supposedly put to rest five years ago, but Pippa has her doubts. Andie Bell disappeared one eventful night half a decade ago, and her boyfriend Sal Singh took the fall with his own life ending in suicide. Now the Singhs are social pariahs and the town has generally moved on, although no one is about to let the Singhs forget that their son killed the town's golden girl.

But Pippa has her doubts. The murder/suicide just doesn't make sense to her, and she never remembered Sal to be a bad person. Plus, Andie's body has never been found. So if not Sal, whodunnit? That's what Pippa is determined to find out. She sets out to investigate Andie's disappearance for her Senior Capstone Project, and what she uncovers will shake her secretive small town to its core.

Holly Jackson's A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is a taut thriller with an intricately plotted storyline that will keep you guessing until the end. Reminiscent of the wildly popular podcast Serial, this novel takes you on an investigative hunt to track down a murderer, led by the intelligent and inquistive Pippa Fitz-Amobi, a sleuth who could even give Riverdale's resident detective Betty Cooper a run for her money. Fans of Serial, as well as the Riverdale, will be delighted by the quality and depth of this novel, which has all the makings of a true-to-life murder mystery.

I highly recommend the audiobook version of this book, narrated by a full cast of characters. The production on this audiobook is extremely well-done, especially when Pippa is conducting interviews. Complete with tape recorder & telephone sound effects, it feels as if you are listening to a real interrogation between two people. The voice actors read with inflection and emotion, making for an enjoyable and captivating listening experience.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children's for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book overall. Distinguished as the format might be, I think this kind of 'styling' just doesn't do well with me. My full attention was not captured by that story until I got to the second half. I believe this book is too YA for my taste, which I know is an issue with me personally. I mean, it's well written and impressively clever, I can admit. But I couldn't help but want something more ... intense and terrifying, too.

This has to be one of the best YA mystery books I have read in a very long time.

Pip is a high school senior that is doing her capstone project on the mystery that has haunted her hometown for years: the murder of Andie Bell and the suicide of her potential murderer, Sal. Pip has a personal connection to this story, having known Sal as a child, she is not convinced that he was a murderer and wants to clear his name. With Ravi, Sal's younger brother, Pip stops at nothing to figure out the mystery and clear Sal's name. Pip goes down many routes of figuring out the mystery: interviewing people that knew Andi and Sal, looking at each and every photograph that may have been taken that night 5 years ago, and even putting herself in danger each time she gets closer to new evidence that Sal was innocent and possibly framed.

This book had so many unexpected plot twists. Each time Pip discovered a secret from the past, I was at the edge of my seat with the deductions that she made. Every time I thought I figured out who may have killed Andi or any theories about that night, I was wrong and did not figure anything out entirely until the moment that Pip did. Which I feel is an great aspect to a mystery book: you can't help but trying to figure it out along the way with each clue, even if you never fully put it all together.

I loved this book and anxiously await the sequel being available in the US.

Love love loved this book! I love me a teenage female detective and Pip had it all. Jackson does a great job of creating a character who toes the line between danger and finding the truth. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I went into this expecting some YA amatuer sleuth vibes and I think that's exactly what I got. I'm excited to read the sequel that has already come out in the UK!

I thought this book was AMAZING! Once I got started it was hard to put down.. When I was reading it I felt so sucked in. I loved the multi media format. This book is about Pippa who is doing his senior capstone project about the murder of a local girl 5 years ago Andie Bell and how her boyfriend Sal was blamed for it and after he supposedly killed himself and saying he did it in a note. Pippa is trying to prove that Sal did not do it. I thought this book was so full of twist and turns and I loved the characters and plot and how the book ended.

I will start by saying that the pages of this book flew by & I am eagerly anticipating the 2nd in the series. Holly Jackson has a realistic & engaging writing style that keeps you guessing (& reading) until the very end. For anyone who likes CSI & Law & Order this book is a detailed adventure of both areas. Main character Pippa is feisty, does not back down from what she believes in - sometimes at great cost -, & is a dedicated friend/seeker of justice. Going against all those who find her choice to dig into this case problematic, or would rather stay quiet & not question anything, or flat out those who just want her findings to go away, Pippa sets out to "unsolve" a case that shook her quiet town to the core & just as quickly was brushed away leaving lives shattered in its wake with few seeming to even care. This story is like a roller coaster from start to finish & such an entertaining read. For anyone who believes that there is always more than meets the eye, this is a book for you.

I was so excited to read this book and it did not disappoint! It was twisty, unexpected and had me on the edge of my seat. I finished this in just a few sittings and cannot wait to read more from this author!

This book pulled me out of my reading slump! I loved every second of this book, and couldn't put it down. The main character decides to do her senior capstone project on a local murder, and the fact that she believes the wrong person was accused. I can't wait to read more of this series!

A very good story from start to finish marred only slightly by the glaring change from its original location in the UK to one in the the USA. It was unnecessary to make the change, as it was blatantly obvious by their actions and speech that these characters were NOT people who grew up in America. Why not just leave it set in the UK? Still, in spite of that, it's solid, and I look forward to book 2!
