The long-awaited battle has arrived, and we will finally find out just who will fight and what side all of the power players will end up on…and the ultimate question of who will come out of it intact. I have been looking forward to this story for a long time, not only for the sake of another Dragon King finding love with his mate, but because we knew that it was truly time that Rhi come out her shell and take control of her destiny. We have watched her evolve and change into the powerhouse she has become, and we always knew it was her destiny to make a great change in the world and this is her time. That being said this story really did revolve around the love between Kelton and Bernadette, despite both of them resisting the pull between them from the very beginning. Donna Grant has the ability to take readers on an amazing journey through the supernatural world of shifter and Fae while still keeping the most fundamental of truths at the heart of her story, Love conquers all. I was a bit surprised at the ending and am dying to see where she will be taking the series now that so much has changed and, of course, we are all still dying to know the secret she has kept from the very beginning of the introduction of this series—the name of the King that stole Rhi’s heart. If you are looking for drama, danger, magic, and heart you won’t be steered wrong with Fever and you will instantly be enchanted by Bernadette and her King’s love and devotion.
Bernadette is an anthropologist who has devoted her career to understanding the cultures around her and when she discovers the existence of not only the Fae but also Dragons in the world, she is determined to bring that to the public, despite the naysayers and obvious dangers. When she finally finds the courage to make a public announcement, she knows she will be approached, but she is not prepared for the sexy dragon-shifter that enters her life. Kelton has been sent as a representative of the Kings to find out just what evidence Bernadette has, but he never expected to not only like the lass but to feel an instant connection to her. After speaking with him, Bernadette is determined to find the truth and knows the only way is to go directly to the source, despite the danger of traveling to Dreagan, and when she shows up on their doorstep, she knows her life will change forever. Kelton never imagined she would show up at Dreagan, but once she is in their home, he’s not really sure he wants to let her go. Soon they find themselves embroiled in a drama orchestrated by their enemy that puts Bernadette right on the front lines and only Kelton can keep her safe, but together they have to decide if they are willing to risk everything, including their hearts in order to defeat their greatest enemy and bring peace to the Kings.
I really loved getting to know Kelton and Bernadette and seeing them falling in love despite all the obstacles in their way and their own personal resistance to their fate. Kelton was one of the few Kings that was happy about the spell that kept them from falling in love for millennia and he is determined that he does not find a mate now, despite his draw to her from the beginning. His heart is obviously in the right place as he befriends Bernadette and tries to keep her safe from their enemies, but once their relationship becomes deeper his denial and resistance made me angry and want to punch him a few times. I understand the fear he was dealing with, but dang I want him to man—errr, Dragon up – and take his mate and keep her truly safe. Bernadette on the other hand was a woman after my heart. While she was an unwitting pawn of an evil bitch to be sure for a good bit of the story, once she learned of her role, she came out of that pretty quick and found her spine. She was a smart lady to be sure, but she leads with her heart from the very beginning and when she starts to doubt her source of information, she doesn’t hesitate to jump into the deep end to try to find the truth. She is the perfect match for Kelton’s stubbornness too and there is no doubt they were made for one another, and as they get deeper and deeper into their battle for their lives their connection shows Bernadette the fighter she truly is as she fights for both of their lives and a chance at a future together.
Fever is definitely a culmination of a long-time arc that so many of us have been dying for, an ultimate battle, and the ending of an era, but there are still so many battles left to fight and I cannot wait for more in this series. Kelton and Bernadette’s love story takes us on a journey through the challenges of deciphering truth from lies and finding a way to embrace the love and trust that is offered at face value and the deep connections that can develop in a heartbeat. Kelton is a sexy beast of a Dragon King, even when he is being an ass and fighting his instincts and heart. He stands for his friends and the world, working with the other Kings to keep the world safe from danger, but his main goal is to keep Bernadette safe, despite denying she is his mate. Bernadette never imagined she would fall for a Dragon King, but once she meets Kelton there is no denying that he is the man for her. I loved seeing her come to her womanly power and prove to herself that she is a match for Kelton in every way including her stubbornness and the power of her love. Together they set the world on fire from the beginning even though they both pretend that their fling can have no future. I am dying to see what comes next and find out where Donna takes this amazing story of love and magic. The Dragon Kings and the other players in their world just keep getting more and more interesting and I honestly never know what might happen next. I will say that if Ms. Grant doesn’t tell us soon who Rhi’s King is, I just might lose it, but I think most of us long-time fans feel the same way and truly believe that she secretly enjoys torturing us with that secret a little too much. Another masterpiece of magic, mayhem, and love and I am so thrilled to have had to the chance to read and enjoy Fever.

For centuries, the Dragon Kings have lived among mortals, forsaking their true selves. But for Kelton, hiding in the realm of shadows—and existing only in the world of dreams—is no longer an option. A human woman claims to know that he, like other dark warriors of his kind, is real. That the legends about these powerful, seductive men with hearts ablaze are true. And that, with just one embrace, Kelton could destroy her…or love her until the end of time.
Bernadette Davies is an anthropologist who knows better than to fall into the arms of a Dragon King. But how can she resist Kelton when he’s so willing to share his secrets and bare his soul? He hasn’t met a beautiful, trustworthy woman like Bernadette in…forever. But once they give into their mutual desire, their worlds will never be the same. Soon Bernadette must face her dilemma: Should she expose the truth about Kelton in the name of science? Or join him in his battle with the dark forces—in the name of love?
Knowing this is the 2nd to last book in the Dragon Kings series, I couldn’t wait to read this! While I liked Kelton and Bernadette, the book wasn’t really about them. A good portion of it was basically summarizing the series and just when I was getting to ready to chalk it up as a release for those new to the series, we finally got to the good stuff I didn’t think was going to happen until the final book! I can’t wait until the last book!! I highly recommend.

Admittedly, I've jumped in and out of this world and its related series a bit, so I might not have as much riding on this big showdown as the rest of the readers. But it was still so satisfying! I don't think you should necessarily start here (is that hypocritical?), but boy is it good to get here!

This story is not entirely centered on Rhi's big showdown, but that's what this is all leading up to. The previous few books have been building to a big battle, but have centered around a mated pair (or unmated, or whatever). This book is about Bernadette and Kelton. Kelton, as all good Dragon Kings, does not want a mate. Sigh. Bernadette has had some unfortunate magical nudges to try "outing" the Dragon Kings. Throw them both into the same room and the sparks fly!

Bernadette was a nice surprise in the form of a tough heroine who ends up not needing rescuing as much as most, even though she's stomping around in a world she doesn't quite understand. Kelton was frustratingly blind to his situation until too late. Their love story might still be early on, but it was still good and sizzling.

Now, on to the larger investment - Rhi! Sure, we get some progress from other stories and characters, but we all want to see the battle that will be between Rhi and her previous queen. The Others have lurked in the shadows for a while but this book gives us more information than before, and should, hopefully, send us into a endgame scenario (right?). We get the battle, don't worry, but I feel a little... unsettled after that. You'll see what I mean. All in all, though, it was satisfying.

A trip to Glasgow isn't what Keltan Dreagan had in mind and isn't happy to be looking into Dr. Bernadette Davies. Keltan doesn't want a mate. A look at Bernadette has him trying to keep that promise to himself. Bernadette is obsessed with the idea that Dragons exist. When she meets one in person sparks fly and they must fight the Fever that engulfs them.

Dr. Bernadette Davies is holding a lecture about dragons to tell the world they exist. Keltan Dreagan has been sent to find out what she knows. A meeting in a restaurant just makes her more curious. A visit from the Queen of the Fae has her wondering if what she's been told is true. A trip to visit the Dreagan distillery to see what she can find out has Bernadette wondering if she needs to change her thinking. Keltan comes to meet her as Bernadette is about to leave and gives her a tour of the famous mansion. He tells her the truth about dragons and their Kings. Bernadette is totally amazed by what she is seeing and wants to learn more. Keltan tells her that they can protect her from their enemy the Queen of the Light Fae. The Queen puts a spell on a pen that belongs to Bernadette to keep her away from the Dragon Kings. While staying at the mansion Bernadette starts getting sick and attributes it to all the stress. The more time Keltan spends with Bernadette the more his feelings become engaged but he won't commit to her being his mate. Everyone with healing power at the mansion tries to make her better only to finally realize that they must take her home. Bernadette is realizing that she must have her mind wiped so that she can protect the Dragon Kings. Keltan stay at the mansion worrying about Bernadette the whole time. She recovers and agrees to work with the Dragon Kings to figure out why the Queen wants to use her in a relationship to the Dragon Kings. Keltan isn't pleased about the whole plan. They can't stop thinking about each other and their one encounter. They think that they've got ahead of the Queen and her plans but she's been pulling the strings all along. She thinks that she has total control over the King of Dragon Kings. The Dragon Kings and their mates use all their protection power on Bernadette. They can't keep away from each other. A surprise attack put Bernadette's life in danger. Keltan and his fellow Kings must confront the Queen of the Light Fae at her castle. They've worried about their leader. Their allies come to help. They defeat the Queen but not before the King of Dragon Kings shows his true allegiance. Bernadette and Keltan realize that they love each other and vow to tell the other if they survive. Bernadette is saved by a king's mate and brought to the mansion. She must fight for her life and soul. They find out some important information about Bernadette's connection to the Others. Bernadette decides to not do a mating ceremony to protect her new family.

The Truth and Justice Seekers, brother and sister MI5 former agents, go on a mission to Spain. The siblings aren't on the same page when it comes to their powers and embracing them. A mysterious woman figures into what they are about to face. He must follow his feelings to a cafe where he encounters the mystery woman. When their conversation is interrupted by his sister so that they can return home. The brother can't forget about the woman and only has a first name, but she knows his real name. He's happy for his sister that she's found her mate in a Dragon King, bringing them both into the Dreagan family.

Donna Grant's continuation of her Dragon King series brings together a woman who's obsessed with dragons and the Dragon King who doesn't want a mate. Their instant attraction has them both rethinking their ideas and finding out the truth. Danger must be faced but will it keep them apart or bring them together or will a Fever take them over? Ms. Grant also sets up the next book in the series by following the brother and sister MI5 agents who have become apart of the Dragon King family with the mating of the sister to a King. The brother must try to figure out his powers and find a mysterious woman.

This was one out of this world story. Man I man Grant has done it again!! I could not put this story down and I really need to get all of these interwoven stories so I can read all of them. This book 16 was just as good as book one if not better. Grant has come a long way from where she started in her storytelling. If you are a fan of this series then you are in store for something big!! When it happened I was just speechless and shocked. In this one the characters are old friends as well as new ones that turn the story on its head. I don't want to spoil anything for you so make sure to check this one out for yourself and then come tell me what you thought!

The Light Fae Queen came to Bernadette and convinced her that dragons exist and need to be brought to the public's attention. So for over a year Bernadette has been telling people about dragons and how she has proof they exist. She's been looking into Dreagan Industries who she suspects are all dragons so she confronts Kelton, one of the owners of the business. He knows she's being used by the Fae Queen and knows that she might have proof of their existence so he opens up to her and tells her the truth about himself.

Kelton tells Bernadette everything but she knows that's only because he plans on erasing her memories before she leaves so he has no reason not to tell her the truth. I found that a little sad but I understood why she couldn't be allowed to remember anything. Dragons have been in hiding from humans for thousands of years and they know that humans would try to kill or experiment on them if they knew about them. I really liked watching Kelton and Bernadette get to know each other with no secrets between them.

Then there's the crazy Fae queen manipulating Bernadette for her own uses and the huge danger and fight that brought about in the story. There's a missing Dragon King, a crazy Fae queen who's been lying about a lot of stuff for a very long time. Kelton and Bernadette are staying together and getting closer while danger is looming just over the horizon. There were a lot of interesting secondary characters that I have more questions about and hope to see them in upcoming books but Rhi was by far the most interesting secondary character that I want to know more about and want to see again. She is going to be something else but I don't know what and I want to know what kept talking to her or who. It was strange that she kept hearing a voice but I have no idea who it was. I want to know more.

I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next because there always seemed to be something happening in this story to move it along. The ending was phenomenal and has me wanting to read the next book in this series.

Bernadette is an anthropologist who knows all about the Dark Knights and that they are real. She knows that they are dangerous but can also be seductive and full of love til the end of time. She has been studying them and wants to meet Kelton. Kelton is a Dark Knight who has been hiding in dream realms cause many do not believe they exist. This story is the first of the Dark Knight I’ve ever read and I was glad it gave a lot of the back story so it was for me to pick up this late in the series. This is quite the story and I found it to quite enjoyable and I really liked the background story of the Dark Knights and will definitely be going back to read from the beginning of this series.

Kelton is one of the Dragon Kings that didn't want a mate. Bernadette is an anthropologist and is about to change his mind when he meets her. She knows what he is and better than to fall into his arms. The attraction between them won't be denied so Bernadette will have to make a choice to expose everything she knows or keep the secret and be Kelton's mate. An interesting read and addition to the series.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.

When anthropologist Bernadette Davies threatens to expose what she knows about Dreagan and the Dragon Kings, something must be done about it. Kelton goes to check out Bernadette and what she knows. If you've read any of the books in this series, you know what happens. There's a spark between these two that won't be denied.

Since these books are meant to be able to be read standalone, there's usually a good bit of page time devoted to giving some background to the story. Not having read this series from the start, I'm not that invested in the Fae aspects of the story. I'm more interested in the developing love story between the dragon king of choice and his mate. Fever did not disappoint in this aspect of the story.

There's something sexy and charming about the Dragon Kings that just keeps me coming back for more. If you are a fan of shifter paranormal romance, with a rich, full world, you might like this series.

FEVER by Donna Grant
Dark Kings #16

Dragons, and warriors and fae – oh my! AND there are OTHERS. Okay...putting silliness aside...this is an entertaining, ongoing series that has created a world and worlds beyond that is inhabited by more than humans. I did not get in on the beginning of this series but did pick up a few books later in the series and a few of the side stories that are part of the series and would like to, at some point in time, go back to the beginning and read them all in order. That said...if you are coming into this series having never read any of the previous books I would recommend this one as it gives a great deal of the backstory as Kelton tells Bernadette the history of the dragons. As he tells their story he mentions others (warriors, druids, fae, dark & light, good & bad and he also mentions The Others. There is mention of other worlds/universes and more. So, coming into the series on this book could/should work for many who might decide to give it a try.

Bernadette is a scholar, anthropologist, cyrptologist and seeker of the truth. She was doing fine professional and personally until one day she met a woman who took her to see a dragon. A year later she presents a talk and in walks Kelton at the bequest of his acting dragon king. Fate or Fae manipulation? Who knows. That meetings sparks a sequence of events that leads the entire universe closer to resolution of issues within this world the author has created. Some live, some die, some marry, a mate is found and a new presence is introduced that has me wondering what will happen next. While some issues are resolved in this bookmore than a few threads are left dangling to be worked on in the future.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Do I want to read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

5 Stars

I can't believe we're at book 16 in this series! I had a terrible itch for my Dragon Scotsman and just had to scratch it with FEVER.

I came here for the romance and was sucked in by the unfolding events. While this story is about the romance of Keltan and Bernadette this is not the main focus point of the book. I didn't feel the strong connection with Keltan and Bernadette, I was more interested in other characters.

If you love paranormal romance the Dark Kings series is a must for your library. I think most readers would agree with that. Even though this was a 3 star read for me, most books in this series have a high rating from me.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, so I could give an honest review.

Dr. Bernadette Davies knows that dragons are real. She has proof. Usaeil, Queen of the Light, revealed their secrets. I disliked how the Queen used her magic to take over Bernadette's life. She's ruthless and determined to control or kill everyone who stands in her way. Keltan is a Dragon King. He's a loner who doesn't plan to take a mate. When he meets Bernadette, he's drawn to her. She's intelligent, honest and brave. I was impressed with how she accepted Kelton and his revelations. She just realized how Usaeil has been using her and has taken action to correct her mistake. Donna Grant wrote a suspenseful story that included a passionate romance. The action was nonstop. This story kept me on the edge of my seat. The Dark King series is intense, but there are more adventures to come. I'm not sure what danger awaits the Kings and their mates. However, I plan to be there to find out.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.

Fans of the Dragon Kings series get a lot for their buck in Fever, the sixteenth book in the series. Donna Grant proves once again why she is a “queen” in the paranormal romance subgenre. Her world building is simply unparalleled and this book brings together a lot of storylines and subplots as the series begins to wind down. This one is fast paced, very revealing and a great addition to the series.

What I liked:

A lot of paranormal romance readers have been reading this series a really long time. It’s one I would definitely recommend if you are new to the subgenre. When I see book sixteen and I haven’t read any of the others I have to cringe a little bit and wonder if I should take a chance on it. It’s usually a toss up as to whether or not you’ll be able to pick up on what’s going on or if you’ll be totally lost. Fever may be book sixteen in this series but it does an amazing job of giving the reader the necessary details from the first 15 books without giving too much away. A very good thing if you happen to be popping in now.

There is a lot of things going on in this book. Somebody has been feeding information to an anthropologist who says she has proof dragons exist. The battle with the Fae is heating up. Rhi and Usaeil are on a collision course and we still don’t know who Rhi’s Dragon King is... All of our favorite characters are here including Constantine. We get to see Keltan finally show who he really is and there is certainly some romance. Donna Grant really packed a lot into this novel. You would think with the series winding down we would be getting plenty of answers and we are but Grant never ceases to amaze by also providing new questions, new characters and more information about the Dragon Kings. It’s always a joy to read one of her books.

What I didn’t:

Bernadette and Keltan are two great characters who seem to be a little overshadowed by the overall story arc in this one. We definitely get some heat and sizzle. Which always happens with a Dragon King but I felt like book was light on the romance. I did enjoy what romance there was in it but I felt like this novel was more about advancing the story than the main couple themselves.

When you get to book sixteen in a series you have to figure there is going to be a bit of repetition. You’ve probably got sixteen couples. Sixteen dragons needing mates and sixteen different stories to tell that have to work together to continue an overall arc. That’s a lot of stuff. And how many different ways can you tell it? This one was good and Donna Grant handles this problem a lot better than most. Give it some grace just enjoy how much we learn in this one.

This one can be read as a stand alone because of the way Keltan tells Bernadette so much about what has happened before but I really recommend reading them all. You miss so much when read out of order or sporadically. I’m a voracious reader and I just don’t get why people do that and miss so much of the nuances and important details.

Bottom Line:

This is really good addition to the series. We learn tons about the Dragon Kings and many answers to a lot of our questions. The romance is good what there is of it. The battle mind blowing. You’ll probably go through the gamete of emotions as you read it and it might take a minute to recover before the next one. Phew! It’s quite a ride.

The good news is the story moved forward and it felt full length not like a novella. The bad news is the leads were dull. Bernadette is nice, smart, and pretty. But not very interesting. The scenes between her and Keltan were boring to me. Sure she is inquisitive, but as a reader of the series what she learned was redundant to me. With the exception of Keltan's story of how he became King. Which was sad but mostly stupid. Was the old King ugly or not sexy? Because the magic that makes new Kings seemed a little off. Keltan was reluctant to love and brooding, but it seemed his attitude was because he was the lead and that's the trope. There was nothing told about his life that would really justify his behavior. Not even the "I don't want anyone dependant on me" line they were trying to go with. Since a mate becomes immortal.

I was disappointed in the wrap up of villainy. It reminded me too much of how Bran went out, without much build-up to the fight and with a whimper. The Others were mentioned but didn't really make an appearance. I hope they do in the next book, and I hope they are actually other. It's time for some new creatures, and considering that the Dragons, Fae, and Druids have spent all this time on one part of Europe it would be easy for other beings to exist on the rest of this planet, or even if they came from another realm. This series needs a major shake up.

FEVER. Just that one word… FEVER says it all about Bernadette and Kelton.

It would be so, so easy to tell you all about this story so I’m going to make this extremely brief so that I don’t do that to you. From the sizzling chemistry between Kelton and Bernadette to the bits of information she shouldn’t have, to the intense secondary story that we all want to know how that works out and the tensions building in this world – frankly FEVER is on fire!

In reality, all you need to know before picking up FEVER is in the cover description.

I know it’s been a long series and to go back to the beginning would be time-consuming and expensive (think library people), yet I would still highly recommend both this particular story and the entire series to any Paranormal Romance reader who loves a deeply involved plot, characters to love or hate (there really is no middle-ground) and surprises that continue to catch me off guard. I know we’re inching toward the end of this series, and I will be so heartbroken when that happens – but in the meantime, there is so much I still need to know and FEVER goes a long way toward answering those questions of mine (and maybe add some new ones, too). I loved it and hope you dive into this world that is intense, addicting with such really, really good storytelling.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Donna Grant has the uncanny ability to weave a story over more than a dozen books. She has kept the story fresh but builds upon the previous installment. I am so involved with these characters that I feel I am good friends with them. I have yelled at them and cried with them.
I have never liked a "Series" that has lasted more than 3 to 4 books but I am hooked on these Dragon Kings and will be there till the end.
She even has the ability to spin off of one story and twist you into another series. All intertwining with the other but each series has its own major plot line.
I would suggest you start at the beginning of the series and go from there. The beginning of this series actually starts in another series. Check out her website for the "reading order"
You wont be disappointed. I cant wait for the end but I don't want it to get here.

very good story.. sexy.. hott.. steamy.. so much fun.. interesting and fast paced.. keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. very good and i loved it

I have read almost every one of Donna Grant's books (this is her 100th!) and FEVER is firmly in the top 3. It's that good.
There's a good variety of past Kings and their mates, and so much action it kept me on the edge of my seat and reading until the wee hours of the morning.
We see the conclusion of one storyline and the start of new one featuring Henry. YAY!!
Grab your hanky, I ugly cried.

Kelton may actually be one of my favorite kings, well after Constantine and Ulrich and.. ok so I have a lot of favorites but really he's pretty up there in my list considering that he hadn't been on the radar screen before his story. He's a grumpy old dragon who has spent most of his time sleeping and is not quite ready to accept this new and changed world where some of his brethren have found mates. That just sets him up for a rude awakening and Bernadette is just the woman to do that.
This a must read for fans of the series but also a great one for new readers to jump into because the author does a quick synopsis when Kelton gives Bernadette a history lesson.
Bernadette is an anthropologist who's been armed with the fae queen with material to prove that dragons are real. Kelton is assigned to check out the authenticity of her claims. He's hooked but still leaves and goes back home but soon Bernadette follows him. As he tries to identify her source he fills her in on the history of the Dragon Kings and slowly falls in love falling in line with the plotting of the Fae Queen.
For readers keeping up with the series Constantine has disappeared and when he appears he's quite changed and unlike himself. Has he really been harnessed or is he playing a long game?
Rhi is finally coming into her own as her past and present seem to be converging. Balladyn has finally accepted that perhaps she will never be the one for him but he is willing to align the dark fae to fight at her side. The Dark Fae and the Kings make unlikely enemies but I guess the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
This is a very exciting book closing up many open questions and intriguingly opening new paths for the series to follow. Unfortunately despite personal speculation, Rhi's dragon king is still a mystery.
I absolutely can't wait for the next book in the series.
