This book felt a little average to me. Not really amazing, but also not particularly bad either. I liked the storyline fine, and the writing style was really addictive, but some of the characters felt a tad flat to me. I did like how it centered on family A LOT, though, which definitely improved my opinion of the story! My only wish was that I wish the formatting included Lana's perspective, instead of only getting to hear Ricki's perspective,

All in all, while I still think I prefer Pretty in Punxsutawney (a similar book by Laurie Boyle Crompton published last year), I did enjoy this one and am excited to see what Laurie comes up with next!

Over all, this is a fun story that is a unique twist on the Freaky Friday movie. I like that it was about two cousins who were once best friends, but who have become enemies as they drifted apart. I felt like it could of had a little more depth to why they drifted apart and some of the issues that Lana was facing that Ricki becomes privy to when she switches places with her. I did find this to be an enjoyable story to pick up and read through, since it was fun with some surprising depth to it.
I received this book through Netgalley. This my honest review.

This was fun and humorous novel.
Happy that I gave it a chance.

And this is the first book that I have read that is located in Fresno. And I liked that.

Well, this book was a bit unusual. Even as I'm writing this a week after finishing, I still don't know what to think of it.
The Good:
Cousin Relationships: These aren't seen enough in fiction and it was nice to see how they didn't get along at the beginning and how they grew throughout the story.
The Writing: The style was pretty good and the pacing was even.
The Bad:
The Concept: On the last page, I still struggled to wrap my mind around what was happening in this book.
The Ending: A lot of action started happening at one time and it was a bit much.
All that said, this is not a book that I will plan on revisiting in the future.

Overall, this was a pretty cute and fun read! It took me a little while to fully connect to the story and the characters, but by the time I approached the middle, I was invested. It's a fun, very modern take on Freaky Friday, with a "switch" between two cousins who don't get along. As an only child who grew up close to her cousins, I loved this take.

While very fun and parts made me laugh (plus Erik, one of the love interests, is SO sweet), there's also a deeper element to it with an exploration of influencer culture and the toll that can take on mental health.

To me, parts of the beginning and end seemed a little cheesy/forced (especially pertaining to theme), I'll admit, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved getting to see the relationship-building between the cousins, as well as the aunts, and--to not get into spoilers--the development of a relationship with another beauty guru (besides Erik). Plus, the DOGS. The dogs are fantastic. There are wolf dogs and a Chihuahua, and the dynamic between them is so funny but so true. I can attest from personal experience (lol).

Basically, read for the fun but also meaningful take on Freaky Friday a la cousins, stay for the dogs--and Erik.
