Romances are always popular, especially contemporary ones. So I'm sure we will acquire this one for our collection. Unfortunately I was not impressed in the least with this one... this isn't offering anything new or engaging. Not for me.

I struggled with this one a bit. I didn’t love it like I hoped I would I was hoping it was going to be the perfect holiday read. I love the transportation to London during the story. I love when a story brings me to another place. This was a little longer than I thought necessary and boring in some parts. I wish there was more of a holiday feel for this one.

This was a nice rom-com set in London with a little Christmas spirit thrown in.  I enjoyed it even though there were a lot of characters to keep track of.  The London descriptions at Christmas time made me want to go check out the decorations for myself!

🎶 For the second book of Christmas my booksta gave to meeeeeee, We Met In December! 🎶 Not entirely “Christmasy”, but this book definitely gave me the warm feel goods of the season. So here it is, my #coffeeandcurrentlyreading review!

Jess just moved to London and is restarting her life right before she turns 30. New city, new house, new job...and maybe a new romance? Jess and Alex, one of her new housemates who also is restarting life as a nurse after being a corporate lawyer, have sparks when they first met right before Christmas. But then Jess returns from a winter holiday to find out that Alex and their other housemate Emma might be in a relationship. What follows is a year full of budding friendship as Jess and Alex discover London together, while navigating family, dating troubles, new jobs and growing feelings.

I really did enjoy the characters of this book and think even the secondary ones were special. My only issue with the book was how repetitive some of it was (the long walks, the constant reminders of why Alex decided to be a nurse and why Jess has insecurities, etc). For an almost 400 page book, some of it could have been pared down so we didn’t have to rush the ending. It’s a minor beef and one that’s easy to overlook when the rest of the story is heartwarming.

We Met in December is a book that is great for getting you in the warm hearted spirit of the season, all while giving you the year round feels! I definitely recommend it for any time of year, so no worries if you can’t fit it in this month.

It was a cute love story but it was lacking a bit. At first I debated if I should DNF this book or not, but I'm a sucker for romance novels so I decided to give it another try. This book reminded me a bit of "One Day in December".
It was very predictable, I really liked the characters but I was expecting a lot more. It was very hard at first to actually get into the book, it was a slow burn read for me. There were times were the book had gotten a bit dull, and it would become hard to concentrate on what I was reading. Overall it was an okay book.

Unfortunately this book was a dnf for me.  I got pretty far into the storyline, but could not get into the story and I didn’t really care for any of our main characters.

First of all I love, love, love the cover.  So cute. I have to be honest though, I didn't care for Alex or Jess and found the book a bit dull.  It was predictable, as I expect with a rom-com, and which is okay, but the rest of the story was repetitive and boring.

I decided to DNF this book a few chapters in because I just wasn’t finding any reason to stick around. The characters left me wanting more, and the frequent mentions of Instagram, selfies, and general “OMG, is he, like, looking at me?!” type of banter got a bit tiresome.

Like others have said, the plot reminds me of “One Day in December,” which was a book that I actually really enjoyed.

We Met in December by Rosie Curtis is the absolute definition of cute! If you’re a fan of the friends-to-lovers trope (and you revel in the angst of missed opportunities), then this one’s for you. I really enjoyed getting to know Jess and Alex as separate characters. The book gives plenty of room to fully flesh them out as individuals, which is something you don’t usually see in your typical rom-com. The side characters also had great arcs of their own. Overall, Jess and Alex had a really sweet dynamic that flowed seamlessly on the page, though I maybe would have liked a little more romance at the end — the book concludes on a super cute scene, and it left me wanting more. If you like a good slow-burn holiday romance that doesn’t put too much emphasis on the “Christmas” aspect, then I recommend checking out Curtis’ latest novel!

WE MET IN DECEMBER by Rosie Curtis

I enjoyed this read very much for a sweet everyday type of a romance nothing explosive or titillating in every sense of the word. Yes, it did take some time to develop as it spanned an entire year; but a quick read of this slow burn romance. This is also not necessarily a Christmas read at all which was actually great. I enjoyed that the setting was in London - Nottinghill and I enjoyed reminiscing back walking along the city through this book - and that I really enjoyed very much! I love the characters in this book, with Jess working in publishing and Alex a nurse, along with the dialogue, and the funny interactions. Overall, this was a great read for me that was entertaining and truly delightful.

I decided to DNF this book at about 30%. It isn't a bad book, but I am not connecting with the characters or writing style at all. I found the writing style very simplistic but also a little confusing to keep track of who was who in dialogue. The characters didn't really have their own, distinct voice.

I finished this book, but I found it too much like One Day in December. The cover is very misleading. I was hoping for a cozy Christmas book, but most of this book does not even take place in December. I have heard a lot of people disappointed to find out that this is not exactly a holiday themed book based on the cover.

This book was a struggle for me. It took me a really long time to get into it, and over a month to finish which is unheard of for me. I really disliked the male character and some of his choices through the middle of the book and he never really recovered in my opinion. I did like the main character as well as her friends and family so I persevered for that and for the British setting.

I'm really not feeling this one. It's kind of boring? Almost a quarter of the way through and we've barely seen Jess and Alex interact. All the important stuff seems to happen behind the scenes. As such, I feel no attachment to the characters and I certainly didn't care whether or not they got together. There's literally no chemistry here and there's very little personality. It honestly did nothing for me.

I loved this darling, unique Christmas romance. So fun!

Just like One Day in December, this really has nothing to do with Christmas. It takes place around the holiday at the beginning and end, but otherwise you’re clear if that’s not your thing!

I adored Jess and Alex - their walks around London and the whole bit was just too cute. And, really reminiscent of One Day in December (which I enjoyed way more). Beyond that, the plot was so all over the place and on/off that it got boring. Even though I enjoyed all the characters, I didn’t understand so much focus on the B players in the story. What did they contribute to the plot? Really nothing. The time jumps of weeks ahead at a time also were confusing to follow at times.

This was a cute enough book but it felt a little anticlimactic and like it lacked something special. I did enjoy the cast of characters and the happy ending though.

It's almost Christmas and Jess's life is looking up: she's got a new job in London, a cheap room in her friend's Notting Hill house, and some serious vibes with her cute new flatmate, Alex. But after she leaves town for a few days with friends, she comes home to find Alex already involved with another of their housemates. Oh, well. Still, Jess and Alex become friends over the next year. They take long walks through the city, exploring neighborhoods and looking for cheap and interesting things to do. Jess just has to pretend she doesn't think of Alex romantically at all.

Alex isn't sure how he got into a quasi-relationship with Emma, his neighbor, but he really isn't interested in dating anyone right now. He recently broke up with someone and he's busy retraining as a nurse. So a friendship with Jess is all he needs. Isn't it?

This is a sweet, witty story about second chances and figuring out what you really want from life. Jess and Alex narrate alternating chapters, and both have distinctly funny and honest voices.

Such a disappointment. 

From the beginning, I had difficulty connection with Jess. She lives in her own little bubble and comes across as incredibly naive. Sadly, I would categorize her as TSTL. If I had trouble connecting with Jess, then the romance element between her Alex was so dull and uninspired that I had trouble even finishing the book. Nothing at all interesting about the characters or story.

This book kind of surprised me in some ways, because I was expecting two main things: a book focused on December/Cozy/Wintry/Christmas, and romance ... and I didn't really get either of those things. The book covers the relationships between four flatmates over the course of a year, and touches lightly on the romantic entanglements therein (which I was fine with, I don't always need the thermometer to blow up with all the steam). 

Overall this was super cute and super fun, even if it's not what I was expecting. I've heard really good things about the audio, and wouldn't even mind checking it out myself (I love me a good reread via audio!)
