Can we talk about sex? Of course we can, but most of us don’t. Oh, we may boast to friends about the great sex we’ve had (and hopefully we have) or make jokes with then about the crappy sex we’ve had (we’ve all been there), but talking about sex — what we think about it, what it means to us, why we have or don’t have it — is, well, complicated.

I didn’t realize just how complicated until I read Taking Sexy Back: How to Own Your Sexuality and Create the Relationships You Want by Alexandra H. Solomon, a psychologist and professor at Northwestern University and author of Loving Bravely. If you’re a woman, or someone who loves a woman or someone who is raising a woman-to-be, you will want to read this book. Trust me.

No matter the kind of sex you’re having or wanting, the best gift you can give yourself is to understand, accept and take charge of your sexuality. Taking Sexy Back is a loving, inclusive and essential way to start that journey.

This book is very direct. Well researched, well written, it really hit home. Such an empowering book for women at any stage in life. I love the message that we are in control of our sexy! Add this to your must read list!

I love how down to earth is this book. I am definitely doing some of the things I learn in this book. Maybe I will gain more confidence in my self.

Dr Solomon's Taking Sexy Back offers an alternative perspective on how women approach their sexuality contrary to current pop culture. She recognises that it transcends the physical and analyses it from different dimensions by using research as well as citing real-life examples. This book is not a step by step- "how-to" guide for quick fixes. Rather it provides readers with points for reflection particularly with regard to sexual self-awareness.

An easy, informative read that is aimed at women in any part of their life. I feel like I have learned about myself as I was reading this, and have developed more confidence to open conversations with friends and lovers.

This book is a great start to opening up this conversation. We obviously have a long way to go and depending on your role in changing society (a teacher, a politician, a parents, a young adult, etc) you may or may not choose to supplement this reading with additional resources.

I wish I’d finished reading this before my boyfriend broke up with me because I think it would have helped me address a lot of my communication issues especially since I entered that relationship with a history of abuse from previous relationships.

Great to see these topics entering mainstream conversation.

Thank you NetGalley and New Harbinger Publications for this ARC

This is an interesting book that should help many women rediscover themselves. It would be a good book to give to young women who are just into adulthood. It would hopefully help empower and help them to feel good about themselves despite the pressures created by information on social media and other platforms. I didn't relate to all the case studies but overall a very good book.

This book right here is what I needed! To any woman, young girl- female species reading this, listen, this book right here is the conversation you'll enjoy having with your sisters. Forget the quizzes on magazines, have conversations about sexuality and what your sexy means and what you've been brought up to believe, until you name it and choose the path that's uniquely you.
The tone of writing is friendly and language used is simple which makes this a companion read.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
