“Once a cheat, always a cheat,” they say. Marcie Maddox has worked hard to get where she is after the illicit affair that started her new life a few years ago. But her world of country clubs, yachts and sumptuous houses in Savannah, Georgia, isn’t easy to maintain, no matter how hard she tries. Nor is keeping her husband, Jason, truly interested. So, when Jason’s boss brings home a hot new wife from his trip to London, the young Mrs William Radford IV isn’t quite the souvenir everyone expected. Sexy, drop-dead gorgeous and black—Keisha quickly usurps Marcie’s place as the beautiful second wife. But when Marcie sees the extra spark in the room when Keisha and Jason are together and their obvious, magnetic attraction, the gloves come off. Revenge is best served cold, but in the steamy Savannah heat, blood runs so hot that this summer it might just boil over into murder. (Goodreads synopsis)

Real talk: I started this one in December and I DNF’d it. It just didn’t pull me in. Then on February 11th, this one came out and some trusted recommendation sources gave it glowing reviews. So I decided to try it on audio, and I really did end up enjoying it. I did have the killer figured out fairly early, but that didn’t take away from the book as a whole. Having gone to college in Savannah, I certainly saw some of the wealthy elite that this book portrayed. It definitely brought me back to my time in Savannah while I truly loved!

This was a DNF for me. I couldn't keep track of the characters and didn't find any of them relatable. I wish the story had slowed better because I have enjoyed her other books!

I did not finish this book. I have enjoyed this author’s other books, but this one was a bit too raunchy for my taste.

I got to say the characters in this book honestly got on my nerves! I really enjoyed her first book but this one was just not for me the story line was fine I just could not make myself like or root for the characters

I was initially very excited to get this book on Netgalley. But, unfortunately, after hearing some of the reviews from people I really trust...I've decided this book is just not for me. So, I won't be reading it. I'm gonna leave the rating at 3 stars since I technically haven't read it. But I have a feeling that if I had, my rating would probably be even lower. I think I'm done with Sarah Pinborough after this.

I finished this book last night and I decided to give it 3 stars. The book was good and would recommend it. The ending was great even though I figured out who did it. There were a few surprises in the book and I enjoyed those.
I just don't like reading about cheaters. I also have a problem with rich people who think they are all that.
I enjoyed the writing style and the way the book flowed. It is just my personal taste that only allowed me to give it 3 stars.

Wow, I never read a book that I actually hate the main character. But overall this book was okay. Really need a sequel after reading this book.

Honestly, I just can't get behind this book. I liked the elements in "Behind Her Eyes" but this was toooooo twisty and more erotic than I wanted. I just think it was written more for the headlines of "twisty psychological thriller" and "if you loved all these other books then you'll have to pick up this one". I'm over those horrible tagalongs.
The book is more adult sex and twisty storylines that didn't need to be. Just didn't love it - others probably will but not for me.

I'll always be excited for new Sarah Pinborough books because I'm waiting for one to be as good as Behind Her Eyes - but this isn't it.

Dead to Her is an entertaining, twisty novel that I enjoyed but barely remember 2 months later. All the lies, secrets and betrayals kept me guessing and gave me whiplash. I could never figure out where this story was going, but sometimes things felt more disjointed than mysterious. I was definitely surprised by the ending, but it wasn't satisfying. Despite that, there are a few fun, memorable scenes in this book and I liked the complexity of the characters. If you're looking for a page-turning distraction right now, this is a great book to pick up. You might enjoy it more than I did!

I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

Dead to Her was a bizarre book, I really couldn't put it down for the first 35% or so. The romantic twist was a surprise, but it worked. This was my second book by Sarah Pinborough and really enjoy her style of writing so I will continue to look for new works from her. I like how she throws supernatural elements into stories where they don't necessarily have to do with the outcome of them. Its a mystery how the story is going to be impacted by the supernatural. In Dead to Her, the supernatural was some characters involvement in some type of voodoo. I loved the deep South, US setting amongst the vicious rich. I loved the story about a woman who knew she got her husband by stealing him from his first wife, but then spent a lot of time worrying about losing him to someone new. It was like a fictional Real Housewives of Savannah. The biggest drawback of Pinborough's Dead to Her is a serious lack of any characters to root for. The two lead women didn't have enough loyalty or humanity for the reader to ever really warm up to. The men were ALL horrible. For me to have rated this novel a bit higher, the author would have needed to show some of the characters a bit more well-rounded and the ending to have been more fitting. In life, few people are all good or all bad. In this novel, all the characters, with a slight exception for Kesha, were one note, and that note was painful. I was so happy I don't know anyone like the characters in this novel.

This book was crazy!

I'll admit, the first half was a little slow and I debated whether I would finish it, but I'm so glad I did. The second half was twisty and super unpredictable. I had no idea who did it up until the very end. This book has murder, voodoo, embezzlement, and so much more. What more could you want? Once things started happening they didn't stop and I couldn't put this down.

There were a few small reasons why I didn't give this five stars. First, some of the transitions were a little odd and left me feeling like I had missed something. I also didn't like ANY of the characters, but the more I got into the book the more I realized that you're not supposed to like them. I'm not entirely sold on the ending and why it went down the way it did, but I understand how it wrapped up.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this and would give it 3.75 stars rounded up to 4.

I liked a lot of things about this book. I liked the storyline. I liked Keisha's involvement with voodoo and how her story played out. I honestly liked how ugly all these people were - catty and secretive and miserable even with all their money. What makes it where I couldn't recommend this book to someone is all the sex! Oh my gosh, there was so much sex. Mystery/thriller readers are used to a certain level of gore - that I can stomach - but I don't read romance for a reason... So, I recommend if you like thrillers with lots of drama AND "romance" novels with throbbing loins!

Wow, was this a surprising read! I appreciated that I never knew which way the book was going (though I did have a slight suspicion that it wasn't the husband anyone was really interested in), and the characters were so complex. Pinborough constantly kept me guessing. The ending really really shocked me and stayed with me.

This was a last minute 4 stars. I loved Pinborough's Behind Her Eyes, especially for the solid unseen twist at the end. So I really wanted to finish this one to see what she had done here.

To be fully honest, I'm writing this review in the middle of Quarantine Lock Down, so while we have a ton of time to read in theory, the reality is there are 1000 more distractions than usual, such as, Have I Lysoled my Kindle yet today? Did I touch my Kindle before I Lysoled it, and then touch my face? I just sneezed, am I going to die?

So keep that in mind when I say the first half of this book was slow for me. It took me a really long time to get through... like the first 70% of it. And I probably would have dropped it if not for Pinborough being the author. But finally, the last quarter came through. We have twisty turns on very page, all the side characters I wasn't paying attention to suddenly became possible suspects, and overall I thoroughly loved it. The last 25% only.

So we have 70% that just goes pretty much nowhere, with every character an unreliable narrator and no real plot direction, and then a solid 25% that enthralled me. But it was such a great 25% I almost gave it 5 stars. I took the one off because we have the culprit just out of nowhere sit and confess to every single thing??? I HATE THAT.

If you can pull your attention away from the germies outside, try this book and pay attention to all the characters. Know you'll be rewarded at the end. I'm going to stand by 4 stars, although if I'd given up early it would have received 2.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. I will always be happy to try a Sarah Pinborough book.

Somewhere in the book, someone refers to the joy of reading a trashy novel at the beach, and that was quite meta because Dead to Her would be the perfect fit. This romp is all about greed, jealousy, revenge, voodoo, and lust, the perfect ingredients for that escapist book. Dead to Her by Sarah Pinborough has an abundance of effervescent characters. Marcie and Keishia, the two women at the center of this mystery set in Savannah, are intriguing, a bit sleazy but quite lively.
Marnie has married into the Savannah high class, but lately, her husband Jason seems sneaky, distracted, and cold. What is he hiding? His boss, an elderly gentleman, returned from his European trip with a new young trophy wife, Keisha. A girl from London, who worked in a strip club, lived with her skeevy auntie, that convinced Keisha she is cursed. When Marnie starts to suspect Jason is falling hard for the gorgeous Keisha, her life begins to implode. Obsessing over Keisha, Marnie risks losing the glam life she scammed her way in to.
Dead to Her, is all fun and wicked games until someone dies. The storyline is like the characters, a bit messy, it could undoubtedly be trimmed down here and there, but the plot is propelled along by the two strong female characters that managed to capture my attention right through the end. Now in line with the messiness of the plot, the ending soured it a bit for me.

Dead to Her is unlike any of Sarah Pinborough's other books. I did not enjoy this one and just felt like the first 100 pages could have been cut. It took a terribly long time for things to progress and after the reveal, I just felt extremely underwhelmed. The characters were unlikable and extremely grating to even read. I almost DNF-ed this 100 times but wanted to see if the ending would redeem itself. Thanks for my advanced copy.

This is about the upper crust in Savannah. When Bill Radford comes back to town with his new bride, Keisha everyone was shocked. His wife had just died months ago and already he has a new wife. Marcie is jealous because she thinks Keisha is wanting her husband Jason.
The story has twists and turns but I just couldn't get interested in the characters. Everybody was bad and you could not feel good about any of them.

Sarah Pinborough delves into the lives of old-monied elite, in her latest psychological thriller, DEAD TO HER.

Two trophy wives get caught up in a storm of secrets, as they navigate a life of which they will never fully be a part. Marcie’s marriage to Jason Maddox was the result of an affair, and now Marcie wonders if it’s only a matter of time before she too is on the outs. Her insecurity deepens when Jason’s 65-year-old widowed boss, William Radford, returns from London with his new, 22-year-old wife, Keisha. Jason can hardly keep her eyes off her.

As we get to know the women and the men of Savannah’s wealthy elite, we realize not everything is as it seems. Everyone has something to hide, and no one wants to lose their country club status, mansions, and envy of others. Before too long, William’s domineering ways make life for Keisha unbearable, and Marcie can’t ignore that Jason is keeping secrets.

Marcie and Keisha’s relationship takes a turn as some of these secrets emerge and threaten to collapse the all-too-perfect façade.

The novel felt very soapy—sex, lies, greed, murder and a little voodoo to keep things spicy. That drama kept me rapt, despite the characters being not very likeable at all. And in true Pinborough style, the end packs a punch with surprises aplenty.

If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, this one fits the bill as a dishy page-turner.
