This one didn't really appeal to me too much. The pictures were cute, but the story was a little disappointing.

This book is probably adorable, but was not in a good format for a digital review copy. It was hard to follow, and the images weren’t great on my device. I will probably look for a finished copy to read with my son.

This was so cute! Two little girls have a playdate and bring their favorite stuffed toys along too - Duck and Penguin. While the two girls are best friends, the two animals are not. While the girls have fun at the playground, baking, painting, etc., the two animals get into fights at every turn! But when the two girls want to play with the animals as babies, they bond over their shared hatred of that game and eventually learn to see eye to eye and get along with the other activities.

Two stuffed animals, a duck & a penguin don’t particularly care for each other. But their owners... two little girls... are best of friends. Everything the girls did together, duck and penguin were at odds with each other. Until one particular playtime brought them together.

It was a cute story. I wasn’t overly in love with it but it wasn’t bad. It was ok. I read it to my daughter (she’s 3) and she didn’t love it nor dislike it. I definitely didn’t find it “side splitting” as the description suggests. The illustrations were very pixelated and fuzzy which is disappointing for a picture book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book on my kindle paper white, which I think was a mistake. It came out of order, and hard to see but I did my best. I think it is a cute story with great pictures. I like that the girls were different races and had glasses. Over all I think it will be a great book for children and I will definitely purchase for my library.

Betty and Maud are best friends. They each have a stuffie they love, Duck and Penguin. Duck and Penguin Are Not Friends at all. In fact, when Betty and Maud play well together, Duck and Penguin are behind their backs battling. From hitting, throwing things at each other and even painting one another, they not only make a mess, but send the message that they do not like each other at all. Then, Betty and Maud use them to play Itty-Bitty Baby. When they have a shared distaste for something, they realize that they do have something in common and can be friends. I'm really not sure about this book. When I read it to my granddaughter, she thought it was funny that they were always fighting with each other and that is not a message I want to send to her. The ending, where they realize that they can be friends and play well together is a good one, as it can also show that even if you have a disagreement or don't get along with someone, it can be turned around. So, I guess I am the fence with this one.

Duck and Penguin Are Not Friends is a book about a stuffed duck and a stuffed penguin. Duck and Penguin's owners are best friends, but Duck and Penguin are NOT friends at all. While the children play together, Duck and Penguin make a mess while battling against each other. Eventually they have to get cleaned up, but their rivalry continues through it all...until their owners want to play itty-bitty babies. Duck and Penguin would rather do ANYTHING than play itty-bitty babies, even if it means playing with each other. In the end, Duck and Penguin realize that they might be friends after all.

The simple, yet adorable illustrations effectively demonstrate the relationship between Duck and Penguin. The text is simple enough for a young child to understand and includes humorous elements that parents and teachers will appreciate. This book is one that young children will be able to relate to, especially as they begin daycare or preschool. I appreciate the honesty about how Duck and Penguin do not get along at first. This is a situation that comes up for many children, but I also like the way Duck and Penguin find common ground by the end of the story.

This book would be a great addition to classroom or home libraries!

Duck and Penguin are definitely not friends.. They can’t stand each other. But their owners are the best of friends. So Duck and a Penguin are forced to hang out with each other. It’s not fun. At all. But by the end of this adorable heart felt picture book, Duck and Penguin have discovered they have more in common than they thought, and they do in fact, li,Ed spending time together. A thoroughly enjoyable, sweet picture book.

I like that while this is essentially a basic rivals-to-friends plot Woolf does put a spin on it. Duck and Penguin are constant rivals, constantly at odds. It is their shared hatred of an activity that draws them together.

Duck and Penguin's owners are best friends, but Duck and Penguin are NOT. Despite their differences, they find a common dislike that unites them in the end. Overall, I thought this was a cute one-time read, but don't see this being a favorite that kids will return to. I think the message is a little to subtle for young readers.

Cute illustrations, but somewhat predictable outcome. This book doesn't particularly stand out to me.

Betty and Maud are BFFs and they both have favourite stuffed toys that they love dearly. The girls schedule a play date and bring their toys with them assuming that their buddies will get along splendidly just like they do. But as the girls make their way through their day, participating in a variety of activities that are great fun for them, it becomes quite obvious to the reader that the toys aren't feeling the joy.

When Betty and Maud skip to the swings, Betty pushes Maud all the way up and Duck pushes Penguin all the way OFF! When the two friends build sandcastles their toys go into wrecking mode and destroy theirs and when it's time to bake and paint? Oh my... the combative, disagreeable toys end up covered with egg-innards, whipping cream and to top it all off engage in a frenzied paint fight.

What is going on? This will never do. Betty and Maud now have to extract the soggy messes by giving baths to Duck and Penguin. They hang their dripping bodies up on the clothes line and then finally have to blow them dry with the hair dryer. Is there any way that the two toys who obviously don't like each other can settle their differences and become BFFs too just like their owners?

The illustrations are so expressive and kids will giggle when they see how the toys react when they dislike the activities that they are forced to participate in. This is a wonderful read aloud that is just so fun and the story comes with a sweet life lesson to behold: friendships are very personal and best left to naturally evolve and not be forced on anyone... or any toy. I love the adorable characters and the whole vibe of the book. It made me laugh and I highly recommend it.

In the Kindle edition of the ARC I received, the pictures were merely shapes and colors. Therefore it was hard to understand the full story. I gathered from other reviews that the main characters were treating each other in a mean way and then shifted to bond and become friends. From what I was able to read/see this shift seemed arbitrary and I would not recommend this book.

A story of two stuffed animals who have unique personalities all their own. They are forced by their little girls to play all kinds of activities (which they fight during), until they get to one particular one. All it took was one activity that they hated to stop hating each other and become maybe even better friends than their girls.

I am sure that young children will be drawn to the little characters of Duck and Penguin and the story of them doing things together and not.

The illustrations weren’t as vibrant as I thought they would be based on the cover, however this would be perfect for any young child learning how to navigate new social scenarios. My 5 year old son is on the autism spectrum and can struggle socially at times. I think this book would be great for him and look forward to reading it with him!

I received this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. I did not love this picture book about two toys that don't get along in the beginning but eventually do. Simple concepts, but I'm not sure kids will pick up on it.

My 4 and 7 year old girls really liked this book. It was funny to see them being mean to each other, but they loved when they became friends at the end. They also thought it was funny that the stuffed animals were acting like real people and doing things that people do. As soon as we finished, they said "again!" So we did!

Duck and Penguin don't like each other, but realize there is something they both hate even more than each other. They band together and decide ANYTHING is better than playing babies. I read this with my three boys, 3, 6 and 7. We loved all the activities that duck and penguin got into. My boys got a kick out of seeing duck and penguin in baby outfits. They also loved how messy they got and when they became friends after fighting. This book is colorful and fun for all ages!

This book is so cute and funny. I think I liked it even more because my childhood toy was a duck and my best friends was a penguin. The pictures were super cute, the story funny and I think kids would get a good giggle out of it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Peachtree Publishing Company for providing me with an ARC.
