This story is not a fit for me as I prefer my books do not have narratives involving religious beliefs. (Or Political ones, for that matter, though that does not apply here)

Or Taxidermy (also featured in this book)

So, I will encourage you to read the many stellar reviews for this book if it intrigues you, as they will be much more objective.

Thank You to Netgalley, Minotaur books and the author for the digital ARC I received in exchange for a candid review!

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview The Wife and the Widow by Christian White. This book had me hooked immediately. Written in two voices - A wife, protective of her family, and A widow, who has just learned her husband has been murdered.
The story lines merge and converge detailing the lives of two women who deeply love their families but have secrets. The story is set on a small island - tourist flood the island during during vacation season, but when they leave the island is quiet and desolate. One family lives to serve while the other one barely sees those who serve them. But a murder changes everything - and it brings back the past with a vengeance. Excellent - a page turner - 5 stars - RECOMMEND.

I wanted to read this one because I absolutely loved The Nowhere Child by him. I honestly at so many points thought I had this book all figured out but bam was I wrong! At times, I have to admit I was a little confused reading this, but once you things start coming together you begin to understand things better. The book definitely took turns that I was not expecting! I don't want to give anything away but I highly recommend this book to others. I definitely will continue to pick up future books by Christian White!

I originally wanted to read this book because I had seen so many people posting about it so it must be great. Well... I wasn’t amazed. The storyline was good, and it had a decent amount of twists. But it wasn’t the best.

Thank you netgalley for my copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

In true form, the weather was cold the tourists long gone and wife with a mystery to solve. Her husband a physician in palliative care misses his flight home, his wife learns he has not worked in his facility for several months. Following the clues brings her to a place she didn’t know he cared about for years. Soon the elements begin to unfold and his story involves an incident from his youth that the locals had hoped would never be revealed. A page turner that will hold you till the end. Happy reading

4.5 stars! Christian White is now one of my favorite authors. I was absolutely blown away by his debut novel, The Nowhere Child and The Wife and the Widow did not disappoint. This was a tightly woven story with a clever twist. I loved all the bits of foreshadowing which made you read just one more chapter and then another. Fantastic! I highly recommend this book and will be reading anything White writes!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this incredible eARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Wife and the Widow by Christian White is an intricately plotted, mind bending mystery. Suspenseful, fast paced with well developed, realistic, and relatable characters. A stunning surprise twisty ending that staggers the mind. Highly recommended.

Kate goes to pick up her husband from his two week business trip, only he never gets off the plane. Soon Kate discovers that her husband, John, has been hiding things from her. Like he quit work months ago for example. When she travels to their summer home on Belport Island, the secrets begin to unravel and Kate’s worst fears come true. Then there’s Abby, an island local, who’s husband, Ray, also has some skeletons in his closet. The guilt of what she knows and what he did. But nothing is what it seems on the island. When they come together, the truth of their husband’s lives come out.

Wow. This book was incredible. Right from the beginning you’re hooked and want to know what happened to John. You want to know what Ray did. What Abby knows. The chapters were in the point of view between Kate and Abby and always ended in a cliff hanger, so you’re compelled to keep reading. I thought I had an idea of what was going on throughout the book, but nope. The author had the perfect way to keep the twist coming. And then, there was THE twist. I had to put my bookmark in and go back a few chapters and read a few things again. That was absolutely perfect and I haven’t seen something like that, and that’s hard for me to come by.

The Wife and the Widow by Christian White was a good, solid read, I had a few different ideas about how the book would play out and I really thought I knew what was going to happen.

I was wrong.

Being wrong is what you want when you are reading suspense because you really don’t want to have it all figured out!

The book switches point of view between The Wife and The Widow..hence the title. I liked the way the author told the story this way. I thought maybe the women were married to the same man which we’ve all seen before but can be effective in a suspense story.

I don’t want to give anything away, no spoilers here!

Set against the backdrop of an eerie island town in the dead of winter, The Wife and The Widow is an unsettling thriller told from two perspectives: Kate, a widow whose grief is compounded by what she learns about her dead husband’s secret life; and Abby, an island local whose world is turned upside when she’s forced to confront the evidence of her husband’s guilt. But nothing on this island is quite as it seems, and only when these women come together can they discover the whole story about the men in their lives. Brilliant and beguiling, The Wife and The Widow takes you to a cliff edge and asks the question: how well do we really know the people we love?

I enjoyed the atmospheric writing and the storyline, this is a book you should put on your TBR 2020 list. I have a feeling it’s going to be a very popular book! Coming out on January 21st, 2020.

Pre-Order here now.

Wow! This is my first book by this author and I was very impressed!

So, who is the Wife and who is the Widow and how do the two women relate ?! Go in blind people, trust me! I was mind blown at the end! Nothing is as it seems and White pulled it off effortlessly. Bravo Mr. White, bravo!

This was a very suspenseful page turner that I could not put down. A must read if you like psychological thrillers. 5 stars! I can't wait to see what he comes out with next. Now excuse me while I run off to search for his debut book "The Nowhere Child".

A big thank you to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!

This was a gripping read. It was a mystery with twists and turns. The writing style really draws you in,

There are multiple POV, which is my favorite way to read a story.
This was a mystery, yet it was also a story about relationships.

So why not 5 stars? I was really confused at the end. It turns out that it took a huge jump back in time with a third POV, but it took me a bit to understand that.

I want to thank the publisher and net galley for the ARC which did not impact my review.

Halfway thru I would have said 5 stars, by the time I'm done it's only 2. It got so confusing. I had to go back and re-read pages. Very fast paced, but this book certainly didn't deliver in the end.

Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for ,it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.

"If they didn't talk about the monsters in this world, then they wouldn't be ready for them when they jumped out from under the bed."

Chapters alternate between The Widow, Kate, and The Wife, Abby.
Within the few first chapters, Kate's husband goes missing without a trace. She then finds out he quit his job months earlier without telling her and lied about the trip he was supposed to be on. Where is he? Why did he lie? What is he hiding?
Abby's chapters start off slower in the beginning. But then a something happens on the island she lives on and she notices that her husband starts to act different. Does he have something to do with Kate's husband's disappearance? What is he hiding?

As a reader, I kept trying to piece the connection together between the two of them (Kate and Abby). I had so many guesses. But when it hits you, it hits you HARD! O-m-g.

The suspense was incredible and I could not put it down. This is not your average mystery/thriller; there is a powerful message buried in the end that surpasses just a thriller ....and I recommend it!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. Opinions are my own.

Loved this book full of twists, turns and a shocking plot line. The multiple POVs really added to the story, especially considering the surprise that eventually hits you like a ton of bricks! You won’t regret picking up this thriller!

This was a good psychological thriller right up my alley! Kate discovers her husband has been lying to her and has been "missing" for two weeks. Determined to find him, she drives to their summer vacation home when the security team informs her there has been a breach in the system. But what she discovers is so much worse than what she expected. On a similar note, Abby who resides in the beach town Kate's visiting, suspects her own husband of lying and sets out to investigate as well. What these two women have in common is shocking and twisted right up until the end! Did not see that coming!

The wife, Abby, live on a small island town with her husband, Ray and their kids Eddie and Lori. The town was in an uproar over a recent murder of a local summer resident, John. John's widow, Kate, doesn't understands why her husband would go back to an island he never liked. As she traveled with John's father to the island to find out what happened to her husband, she's set to learn more than just about his murder. The island is full of secrets.

What's so interesting about this story are the lives of these characters. They intertwined with each other in a very delicate and intricate ways. One of the question is the book threw out there is "do you every truly knows a love one?" However, in my opinion, Kate just doesn't know her husband until it's too late because her character was set up that way. She was aloof to his life. This was not a spectacular mystery by any means. The characters were normal. The one amazing thing about this story is the setting of the timeline. This was pure genius. Read the story and you'll see what I mean.

The book as an entire unit was exceptional. I guess it probably had to start slowly, almost plodding, to build suspense leading to an excellent conclusion. Told from two viewpoints makes the story work.

Disturbing! This thriller was a bit too much for me?! While I love something in the genre of The Last Mrs Parrish, this book was just a hair too far? Slightly more disturbing than I had anticipated, it wasn’t my favorite read this year. Almost had to put it in the freezer (aka Friends) several times?! Thank you for the advance copy!
