Having thoroughly enjoyed the author's first two books I revelled in the opportunity to read the third.

It was like returning to a town that I know. Familiar quirky characters, lots of atmosphere and build, but something was missing : Pace.

Half-way through the book two people have gone missing, two thirds of the way through a dead body from year ago.

Heck I like build but lets have some action, a kidnap, a death or something every other chapter.

I still loved reading it, like wearing a worn in pair of shoes, comfortable,, but it could have been so much better with lots more action and surprises.

My current favourite author in this genre, Ragnar Jónasson, whilst not a descriptive has a better plan of campaign for his books that maintain a higher level of interest throughout.

As Mr Dean develops further as an author, with some mentoring and honest feedback he has the basis of a long-running franchise, but it needs some more oomph.

First time reader to Will Dean's work and his character deaf-reporter Tuva. The Swedish wintry landscape was perfectly described alongside the fast-paced plot centred around the town's family-run liquorice factory. It kept me guessing throughout and didn't see the plot twist coming. Thoroughly enjoyed this thriller and heartily recommend.
