I absolutely love a classic and this book didn’t disappoint me. I think the characters were so well developed they whisk you away with them. I really enjoyed stepping into another world and dreaming of another life. Superb! |
A beautiful cover for another great Jane Austen novel! 4.5 stars. I loved the main character of Catherine Morland, as she is such a unique Austen “heroine”. She reads a lot of Gothic novels and is laughably naive when it comes to learning about social etiquette in Bath. Though Austen’s storytelling got a little distracted at times, the plot never lost my interest. From Catherine bumbling her way through Bath society in the beginning, to learning how to separate the fiction of her Gothic novels from the reality of everyday life, this story is so different from any other one of Austen’s works as she instead focuses on the loss of imagination and innocence with Catherine’s transition into adulthood. A very unconventional and entertaining classic read! |
A beautifully re-packaged classic tale by Jane Austen. I always enjoy Austen and it’s always like going back to a familiar friend when I read any of her novels. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the arc. |

Northanger Abbey was published posthumously in 1818, even though it was Austen's first book. While I had read several others, this was one of her books that I had not read. As with all of Jane Austen's books, it is extremely well-written, with solid character development. Austen's slightly satirical digs at gothic novels can be seen nicely and are very enjoyable. I definitely have to visit Bath again soon! I loved this edition of the book. |

This is everything you expect from a Jane Austen novel. Angst, romance, complications, reconciliations and of course marriage. It is the story of Catherine Morland and her coming of age. She meets Henry Tilney at the season ball and is completely smitten with him. Catherine quickly falls in love with Henry and he invites her to Northanger Abbey, his family mansion. An enjoyable read and shorter than some of Austen’s novels. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers Sweet Cherry Publishing for a free review copy in exchange for an honest review. |
Northhanger Abbey is not my favourite Jane Austen book, but it's certainly a contender. I will forever love the gothic vibes and the romance in this one. |
I love Jane Austen novels! You can not go wrong with this book. Lovely cover and lovely stories. I highly recommend to any Jane Austen fans! |
A sincere thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for providing me an ebook copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I enjoyed this story very much and felt like I knew each character personally due to the description of them. I enjoyed the storyline. This is not my usual genre but in this instance I am extremely pleased and grateful for opening up my mind to something totally different. Thanks again. |
This is my favourite Jane Austen! Our heroine is full of imagination and naïveté and the romance is charming. I love the tongue in cheek style and imagine that Jane had a lot of fun writing it.. I actually thought this was going to be a manga version, but as one of faves, I was very happy to reread this new edition. Well I’ve bumped this up a star on a reread. I think this might be my new Austen favourite, bumping Pride and Prejudice off the top spot. It’s interesting that, reading this for the first time at the same age as Catherine Moreland I would have given it a lower rating; many years on, I find Catherine, Henry, Isabelle and the whole semi gothic theme even more appealing. It’s hard to believe this was Austen’s first novel, although I believe she touched it up many times before it was finally published. Recommended |
Jane Austen is a classic that deserves the highest of praise. This cover is the sweetest I've seen yet and would look wonderful in anyone's library. Jane's mix of funny and romantic is always a treat. |
A classic! I really enjoyed re-reading Northanger Abbey. The artwork for the cover is also divine. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for an egalley. |

For most people, Pride and Prejudice is probably their go-to Jane Austen book but this one should not be missed either. The writing style is very easy to read. Austen has a knack for combining humour and gothic satire into one novel perfectly. One of the things I loved most about this novel is that Austen includes settings she had been to in her lifetime, in this case it’s Bath, in the UK. The descriptions of these places are truly beautiful and the characters in this novel are very realistic. I loved that Catherine was an avid reader. I loved it even more that she struggled to realise everything that was going on with the people around her. The added mystery element of this book is intriguing too. Though not the main focus of the plot, it does add a lot to the drama of the storyline. The message of the book is an important one for all ages - money doesn’t make people happy. These important messages are still very relevant today so it’s easy to see why this is such a timeless classic! |
One of my favourite Jane Austen novels following Catherine as she is drawn into living out a gothic novel, just like the ones she loves to read. |

What is there not to love about Jane Austen and her satire on gothic literature? There's plenty of humour as well as a commentary on class and manners. The cover on this edition is beautiful as well. |
Neither my daughter (age 12) or I could really get into this book. I wont be reviewing this one on my blog or Amazon but I wanted to send in my feedback. I know this is a classic but I guess I am not into older types of books. I will likely try again but I got about 25% into it. |
Another great version to Jane Austin's Northanger Abbey novel. Northanger Abbey follows Miss Catherine Morland, a young and naive "self proclaimed", tomboy, who discovers that she doesn't fit in the same mold as the other women in society. She meets new friends and gets to fulfill here dreams of visiting a place like the ones in her Gothic novels. This book is completely outside of the realm of other Austen works and the main character is much more related than any characters in the past, making this classic a must read. Book cover appealing to a younger audience. I was given a free copy of this book from Sweet Cherry Publishing with assistance from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. |
This book is delightful. I love Jane Austin and her satire storytelling ways. The book cover is beautiful. This book follows a feisty heroine named Catherine who is a romance novel addict who is invited to vacation in Bath. This book is a classic for all the right reasons and even though Pride and Prejudice is arguably the most famous Jane Austin book.. this one should not be ignored. |

Story of is about a teenager, Catherine Morland who was a daughter of of parson. He accompanied a weathy family, who were their neigbors to Bath. In Bath, she met the Tilneys and the Thorpes. Then the story developed with love triangle, misinterpretation, and deceit happening. What captured me first was the cover of the book. I think the cover goes well with protraying the teenager Catherine. I find the story a little funny as it showed immaturity, and gullibility. It did show also of the sweetness of young love. I also enjoyed a lot of nice quotes from the book. Highly recommend the book. |
The first time I read this book, I had a hard time getting through it. After reading it again, I really enjoyed it. There are some problems with a lot of the story. It is called Northanger Abbey, but they don’t actually go there until the last third of the book. Also, the mystery of the Tilney family and what happened to their mother is a small part of the story. It would have made more sense if it was supposed to be about their time spent in Bath, which takes up a lot of the story. I also didn’t like that a lot of the dialogue was described, rather than actually spoken by the characters. It was confusing to figure out who was speaking when the conversations were described, rather than actually written out in dialogue. Most of the other books I’ve read from this publisher are simplified versions of classic stories, which are intended for children. I like the cover of this book, and I think it would appeal to kids, but the story was the same as the original. If it had been simplified, it would have been a better book for kids. This is a good story. Thank you Sweet Cherry Publishing for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. |
