A sweet G rated 'getting to know you' romance/short story/novella, featuring Lily and George, both in their fifties - she's a widow, he's never married. They meet by accident when Lily travels to new York for a long weekend. The novella is very simply written and easy to read and pretty much describes everything Lily does from the moment she leaves home in Nashville - sightseeing etc. It's set during autumn and has all the feels of that season. It's a cute and easy read if you have an hour or so to spare. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC.

When the Heart Whispers is an entertaining and well written romance. A great plot involving second chances at Rome. You will love the characters. I highly recommend this book. I received an arc from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.

When the Heart Whispers is a sweet story of second chances from author Linda Mooney. Lily lost her beloved husband Colm to cancer two years ago. Her daughters, Audra and Bailee, are tired of witnessing their mother’s grief and have scraped together the funds to send their mother to one of her bucket list destinations, NYC. They are pleasantly surprised when Lily agrees to go.

Upon her arrival in New York, Lily encounters a middle aged man named George Hoxx who helps her with her luggage and directs her to her hotel. When they run into each other again the following morning, the die is cast for them, George calls in late to work and takes the morning to show Lily around Central Park, followed by dinners and a true connection. When Lily leaves for her Nashville home, she feels a new hole in her heart. But she finds a wonderful surprise and the courage to follow with what George has offered her.

I did enjoy this lovely middle aged story, but found the ending to be lacking. I wanted to know more, experience more of their story. That said, I did enjoy this book and would recommend it.
