This is the author's personal recollections and views on art, and how culture, tradition and a host of other socio-political factors have affected the view of African art and culture.
What was of great insight and reflection to me was reading about the African Renaissance Monument in Dakar Senegal and seeing the original art work proposed for this and the final piece selected- it's a stark difference, and just shows how much value was placed on aesthetics.
