Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy. Morgan is shocked to see a photo her friend took of her at a ceremony because her ex husband David that she killed is in the photo. Know one knows her secret. The book is told in the past and present. With a surprising twist you won't see coming. A psychological thriller that you will not regret reading.

Well written thriller/mystery, like always with that author.
Well developed storyline, interesting characters and plot with twists. Captivating story.
Not fast paced but not too slow either.

Grabbed my attention from the start.

My advice : TRUST NO ONE !

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Believe it or not this is my first book by Kerry Wilkinson, though I have no idea why I have never chosen to read any of his books before now. I'm delighted to have rectified this and I thoroughly enjoyed Close to You, an engrossing tale of mystery, chills and suspense.

The book is narrated by Morgan, who thinks her absent husband is stalking and tormenting her. She is confused by this as she killed him and disposed of his body and all his belongings two years before. She has seen his picture in the background of a recent photo taken at an awards ceremony and her best friend claims she may have caught sight of him.

Kerry Wilkinson has a very appealing style of writing and the characters he created though not hugely likeable, were very believable, giving me a great sense of apprehensiveness and foreboding. I liked the fluidity between past and present and I found Close to You very readable, the various unfoldings and revelations making this book very gripping. The story-line was absolutely fantastic and the action and suspense was kept at a maximum level as was the pacing. In this tale of eeriness, tension and murder, Kerry Wilkinson wrapped everything up very neatly in a thrilling, unexpected ending which was rather satisfying.

This was an absolute pleasure to read and even if the plot had been less stimulating I would have devoured these pages with equal gusto and enthusiasm. I’ll certainly be looking out for Kerry Wilkinson’s next book, as well as discovering this author's repertoire of previous novels.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

What a great read. The book started a bit slow; but come the ending- you will be gasping!
Praise to the author for a thrilling, mind twisting book.
Enjoy the ride reading this.

Lately I don't read blurbs anymore. It's the cover, author and title that have to speak to me in order to choose the book. Kerry Wilkinson is most definitely an author you want to devour everything from. He always manages to leave you picking up your chin from the ground. That's how far my mouth always falls open at the end of his stories.

With this book I could not help noticing the last sentence of the text on the back cover. That had me even more intrigued. Why? How? When? were questions chasing each other through my mind.

The ones closest to you should be the ones you could trust no matter what, right ...?

You might want to reconsider that thought ... 5 stars.

Thank you, Kerry Wilkinson and Bookouture (via Netgalley).

An eerie psychological mystery that is a bit different than the typical narrative delivered by Kerry Wilkinson. The reader is handed an understated plot that cleverly refrains from a clear identification of the protagonist and antagonist. Perhaps Wilkinson is allowing the reader to decide for themselves. While the pace is steady and definitely not the rapid, succession of his other novels, Wilkinson does deliver a quality narrative filled with the typical twists and turns that we have come to expect. 5 stars.

Thank you to #NetGalley and @Bookouture for this ARC. #CloseToYou was read and reviewed voluntarily and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Persephone? No coincidence in the choice of names here.
It takes a while to out all the pieces together, why Morgan killed her husband and of course, her shock when he appears in a photo.
FIguring out who her husband really is, and choosing to act the way she does, sets Morgan on a path. Keeping her mouth shut and trying to figure out whats up occurs while the back story is filled in with chapters that alternate between the past and now.
No one is particularly likeable, nor really awful, although the red flags in the beginning of the relationship are petty hard to ignore.

Intriguing psychological mystery, well written.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Kerry Wilkinson for the opportunity to read and review his latest thriller - my heart was in my throat a few times while reading this book!

This story is told in the present time as well as in the past (The Why). We know from the beginning that Morgan killed her husband David over two years ago. She has gotten away with it and moved on with her life. Her personal training business has taken off and she is at an award ceremony with her best friend, Jane. When she is at home later and looking at pictures, she is shocked to see David in the background of one of the pictures. But it can't be - she knows she killed him. Things go steadily wrong for Morgan after that until she is questioning everything and everyone.

Enough said - you need to read this one yourself for the full roller coaster ride experience!

Close to you- Kerry Wilkinson Psychological thriller- 18th Oct- Sarah Netgalley
Morgan is a successful personal trainer. When she goes to an awards ceremony and a picture is taken she thinks she recognises someone in the back of the photograph. That someone looks very much like her husband David who disappeared two years ago. He was rather secretive about some things and Morgan later discovered told lies after lies. When things go missing and the only person who would know about certain things is David, Morgan starts to question herself. It can’t be David can it? It can’t be as she herself killed him two years ago. This one gripped me very quickly- always a good sign. Chapters alternate between now and before David was killed to give us the background of their relationship and what happened. I took to Morgan (despite what had happened) and how things were panning out. Her critical mother which many daughters will understand. I read this in a day- it hooked me and kept me there- always a sign of good writing, interesting characters and a solid plot. This is my first book by this author and won’t be the last. A highly recommended read.

I have been a fan of Kerry’s work since I had the good fortune to pick up the first book in the bestselling series featuring Detective Jessica Daniel a few years ago now. I absolutely love how each of his books are part crime and part psychological thriller with one hell of an unexpected twist that leaves you speechless. ‘Close To You’ is no different. Once again Kerry has written one hell of a fantastic read, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading but more about that in a bit.
I can’t honestly say that I either warmed to or particularly liked the main character of Morgan Persephone, who is a personal trainer. When we first meet Morgan she is at an awards ceremony where she wins an award for her work, which in all honesty she neither expected nor wanted. It’s while at this awards ceremony that a photograph is taken which shakes Morgan to the core because it has somebody in the photograph, who bears an almost identical resemblance to her ex-husband. Only it can’t be her ex-husband because Morgan killed him for reasons which are not immediately apparent. This sets off a terrifying set of events or coincidences for Morgan. For me, Morgan didn’t come across as being particularly nice and in a lot of ways she set alarm bells ringing in my head. I can’t say exactly say why that was but it was just my gut instinct about her. So what is the truth? Is Morgan’s ex-husband haunting her from beyond the grave or is there another explanation for what Morgan perceives to be happening? Is there a twist in the tale? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book to find out as I am not going to tell you.
It took me a little while to get into this story but that has more to do with the fact that I was tired when I started to read and it should not be taken as a criticism of the author. Once I got into the story, it’s fair to say that reading ‘Close To You’ became an addiction. I would pick the book up only intending to read a couple of pages or a couple of chapters but I would still be reading half a dozen chapters later. I had to find out whether or not Morgan was the sort of person I thought she was or whether or not I had the wrong end of the stick altogether. The pages turned increasingly quickly and in the latter half of the book the page numbers seem to fly past in a blur. All too quickly I reached the end of the story which I was disappointed about. I wasn’t disappointed with how the story ended but I was enjoying the author’s superb writing style, the characters and the storylines so much that I just wanted the book to carry on.
‘Close To You’ is superbly written but then I wouldn’t expect anything else from Kerry Wilkinson. He has a writing style that is easy to get along with and easy to get used to. He draws you into the story from the first word onwards and once he has your attention he doesn’t return your attention to you until the last word on the last page. He compels you (in the nicest possible way) to keep reading by keeping the characters real, by keeping the storylines realistic and by introducing the odd twist or two to keep you on your toes and to keep you guessing.
Reading ‘Close To You’ was much like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with lots of twists and turns along the way. There were several times where I almost had to read through my fingers as I feared what was going to happen next.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Close To You’ but then I have loved each and every one of Kerry’s books. I would definitely recommend this author and his books to other readers. I will definitely be reading more from Kerry in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this highly entertaining book. It’s spiced with the mocking humour in the narrative, which is the distinctive signature of Kerry Wilkinson’s books. I liked the fluidity between past and present, which is not always successful. It’s creepy, and some of the chilling incidents might have landed me in A&E. Morgan is a Personal Trainer – a cool cookie with bands of steel around her heart, and she holds her nerve against all the odds. She’s killed her spouse, David and brazens it out plausibly. She’d rather ‘die in a ditch’ than admit her crime. I longed to find out how she’d done it and disposed of his body. I confess I had grave reservations about David. First date. No wallet. Alarm bells? Pull the other leg - the oldest trick in the book. I was astounded she agreed to a second date and eventually married him in spite of his plethora of transparent porkies and manipulative, subtly controlling behaviour. Was she so desperate, deluded or downright stupid? She appeared slow to cotton on to his oddness, or did she sweep it under the carpet? Jane is ostensibly her best friend. She and her bloke, Ben are oblivious of Morgan’s dastardly deed. Andy pops into Morgan’s life. He’s the antithesis of David and perhaps a better match. The message is loud and clear. Are we all innately good or evil or a mix of both? Yes, indeed, food for thought. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

This is a brillant book that keeps you guessing from start to finish. Morgan is a success in the fitness industry but she hides a terrible secret. Two years ago she killed her husband. However, it seems that the dead won't stay buried...

I was immediately drawn to the plot on this one and it didn't dissapoint.

Set in two time periods, we first of all have the "NOW". It seems that Morgan's dead husband is back but how is that possible? It keeps you guessing as to who could be playing with her so coldly all the way up to the final page. Wondering why someone would do such a thing really keeps the pace of the book going.

The second time period "WHY", is set the past exploring everything that happened in the lead up to that fatefull night. Although intresting to understand, I have to admit I liked this Morgan least. I just don't understand what she saw in David at all to begin with. Then - once married - why she stayed. You could maybe think it was manipulation but I don't think so as she never seems to be under his spell at all. This made him seem like a means to an end in the story rather than a fully developed character. Having said that though, Close To You keeps you gripped page after page. Full of twists and turns, I didn't see the final twist coming at all!

I will say though that I found it really hard to remember much about what I was reading unless I was actually reading it. It's hard to explain but basically I just couldn't remember much about the book, no matter how hard I tried. As soon as I started reading again, I could recall it all getting lost in the story once again. I don't know if that is a reflection of the ease of Wilkinson's writing style or the speed at which I was reading to find out what happened next, but it was very odd. And not at all a reflection on how gripping Close To You is.

Told in two timelines, this story switches between present day and 3 years previously. When Morgan Persephone sees her husband in the background of a photo at an award’s dinner, she’s shocked to the core. Everyone thinks her husband left her but he didn’t. Morgan knows it can’t be her husband in the photo as he’s dead…and she killed him.

I love this author’s books and have read them all ever since the Jessica Daniel series. The standalone psychological thrillers which he has written recently have been great and I’ve really enjoyed them. I loved the idea of this book and it sounded like it was a real thriller of a read! Morgan is the main character and we meet her at an Industry Awards evening where she has won an award. It sent chills down my spine when she looks at a photo taken by her friend, and she sees what looks like her husband, David in the background. Everyone thinks that David left her and has never had nothing to do with her since, but in reality, Morgan has killed him. The suspense of why is held throughout the book, and alternate chapters from past and present slowly drip-feed information as to what David was really like that would force Morgan to kill him!

The suspense was top notch!! It had me turning the pages furiously to find out what had been going on in Morgan and David’s relationship and what was happening in the present! The story becomes more of a nail biter when friends and family of Morgan report sightings of David, but surely…how can it be him! I have to admit, whilst I tried to empathise with Morgan, I really struggled and I didn’t really like her. She certainly didn’t help herself throughout the story with some of her actions, which had me wondering what she hell she was doing!! The storyline, however, was absolutely fantastic and the action and suspense was kept high and at a fast pace throughout.

If you’re looking for a book which will keep you on the edge of your seat, then look no further. The chapters are short and quick and before you know it you’ve raced through several of them without even coming up for breath. We are treated to some unexpected twists and turns, particularly as the books nears it conclusions and I certainly didn’t guess how it was going to end. This was another fabulous thriller of a read from a fabulous author, who has been on my list of favourite authors for many years now! Would definitely recommend!!

Close to You is told in two timelines. There is The Now and then The Why which is from three years and eight or nine months ago.

It starts out in The Now and Morgan wins an award for being a fitness trainer and while at the party afterward her friend shows her a picture. In the picture Morgan sees a person that looks a lot like her ex-husband, but she knows it can’t be true because he is dead, she killed him.

Then she starts getting some weird text messages, etc. which has her half convinced that maybe he is alive or maybe someone is just trying to mess with her but who? Could it be his sister? Did he have a brother? Is she just losing her mind?

In The Why we learn about how she met David and the sequences that leads up to when things go downhill with her husband. David wasn’t the best of husbands, he was a pit of a moocher. He lied all the time, Morgan never knew if he was telling the truth.

I really wasn’t sure how this was going to end but I was waiting for the twist and boy I didn’t see that one coming! Totally blindsided me which I enjoyed because it’s always a bit of a let down when I guess it right…lol.

I can’t say that I was a huge fan of Morgan, I think she should have figured out that David wasn’t what he seemed before she even married him. Once I found out why the things was happening to her I disliked her even more. I don’t think you have to really like her to want to know what is going on and enjoy the story as it plays out.

I have read another book by this author and so I was pretty sure I would enjoy this and I did. It was a little slow to start off though part of that I think was my mood. Once things get going though I was really wrapped up in wanting to know what was going on and who was behind everything.

I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys a good psychological thriller.

I am sorry to say that the main character in this novel, Morgan, did not work for me and it was a real struggle to find empathy or sympathy for her situation. The stakes were not high enough and the secondary characters were both dull and frustrating.
Bu using the Now and the Why sections in a clever network of questions, revelations and answers, the author did create an engaging structure but let down by the characters. The final twist at the end was signposted throughout.
Not for me, but Fans will love it.

Another psychological thriller from Kerry Wilkinson that starts with a great premise: you know your husband is dead because you killed him but now he seems to have reappeared. Unfortunately the main characters are not very sympathetic and you end up not caring too much about the outcome.
The book is told in the ever popular switching between now and then format which I personally am getting a little tired of.
Morgan receives a recent photo that has what looks like her husband David in the background. The story progresses at full speed in typical Kerry Wilkinson fashion and even though David died more than 3 years ago there are several sightings and supposed texts from him. Is someone trying to ruin Morgan’s life?
I always enjoy reading books by Kerry Wilkinson but must admit I wasn’t that keen on this one which is probably due to the characters whom I had absolutely no interest in.
Thanks to Bookouture/NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Two years ago Morgan Persephone's` husband David disappeared, vanished, without a trace.

At least that's what their friends and family believe. Only Morgan knows that he didn't just disappear,he's not missing or ran off with another woman. David,is in fact dead and Morgan knows this because she killed him

At least she was certain that she had but now she's not so sure. Because to her shock and horror, she had just seen a man in the background of a photo who looks uncannily like her dead husband. A man who has the same very short hair, the same wrinkles around the corners of his eyes and knowing smirk.

Is David really still alive? If he is,then where has he been hiding for the last two years? Or does Morgan have an unknown enemy who is playing mind games with her for their own twisted amusement?

This utterly enthralling thriller is narrated entirely by Morgan and is written in short, snappy chapters that flip back and forth between Now and Then. (The then chapters starting three years, ten months in the past then progressing through time until they reach two years, one month) The chapters that were set in the past told the story of Morgan and David's relationship and the circumstances that resulted in his alleged death. In the chapters set in the present day, we follow Morgan as she struggles to figure out what is going on. She is pretty certain that David is dead but the image in the photo has planted a seed of doubt inside her head, and it doesn't take long before that seed takes root and begins to grow. I wouldn't say anyone in the small cast of characters was very likeable. From the very start of the story I didn't like Morgan very much and that opinion didn't change at all as the story unfolded.

As readers have come to expect from a book written by Kerry Wilkinson and one of the reasons why I love his books so much is that there is no faffing about or pages and pages of scene setting and character introductions. The reader is immediately launched into the action from the very first chapter, the story rockets along and keeps you hooked in and frantically turning the pages. The short snappy chapters give the reader a very bad case of just one more chapter syndrome. I love this extremely talented authors, tightly plotted, twisty thrillers and can't wait to discover what his vivid imagination will conjure up for his next book. Very very highly recommended.

Close to You by Kerry Wilkinson is an exciting psychological thriller, and my first book by this author. Wow, I did not like any of the characters, but there are so many twists and turns I could not stop reading until I finished. What a roller coaster ride! I highly recommend this book for people who enjoy this genre. I will be reading more books by this author.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.

This is another psychology thriller which starts out and keeps going. In this book, Megan starts seeing her ex-husband, David in random places which is strange since she killed him. What is going on? She can’t talk to anyone about this because he is presumed missing. This a typical thriller and kept my interest. The twist at the end I did not see coming even though I know in this type of book there will be a twist. The writing was very good. I like books where I hear at least one characters thoughts and feelings. Thank you, Net Galley, I voluntarily review an advance copy of this book.
