It had been a long time since I read Kerry Wilkinson's books. They are a hit or miss for me. But this one was a sure-fire hit.

The story started with an intriguing blurb and a cover which caught my eye. Morgan was a personal trainer, life washod, she was a relationship with Andy, she won an award. At the ceremony, a photo of a man hidden in the corner caught her eye. It was her ex-husband David, the one who was lost. But how could it be? He was dead. She had killed him.

The story went through a winding road where Morgan found things disturbed at home, her car was in a road accident hitting a pedestrian, and things started happening. The author created scenarios where I could see Morgan getting hassled. Was David alive. But she had killed him.

The story started slow with each incident trying to rattle her calm composure. I found her to be a cool dudette, she did seem capable. The tension arose gradually when Morgan tried to investigate. Was David back from dead? But she had killed him.

The author's writing was strong with story undulating between past and present. I was shown how circumstances changed in the second half which caused my pulse to spike. It made me wonder if David was really dead. But she had killed him.

All things rose to a fevered pitch, when errors in their ways were shown. Mistakes lead to bigger ones and the ending was an unexpected explosion, quite varied from what I had plotted. Ah, the author was one-up on me.

Had David risen from his death? But she had killed him.... Had she? Read the book... Have patience, stick with it. All would be revealed.

I really loved this book until the end. I would give it 3.5 stars. I'm really not sure why Morgan stayed with David, kept forgiving him over and over and simply seeing past all his lies and secrets. David was definitely not a catch. Why torture Morgan this whole time and then just stop? What was the end game? The person put a lot of time and effort into getting under Morgan's skin and then it's over. Did the revenge really fit the crime?? I think this person should have been also blaming someone else, but all the anger went to Morgan. Morgan's mom was one of a kind. I'm pretty sure she hated her daughter. I can see why Morgan latched on to David, she really didn't have anyone in her life. I enjoyed how the book alternated between the present and the past before David "disappeared."

Definitely recommend the book, it was fast paced and held my attention. I couldn't wait to find out who was behind everything. I never suspected this person. I will say this erson was very resourceful and played a great game of revenge. It was a great suspense/thriller. Look forward to reading more books by the author.

A tense psychological thriller that's hard to put down. I have read a few of the author's other books so was looking forward to reading this. I was not disappointed and didn't see the twist coming at all.

A bone-chilling and totally engrossing psychological thriller. I loved the story.

The man whom Morgan killed two years ago seems to have risen from the dead! Morgan is at an awards function and a photo session later, she sees her ex-husband in one of the photos. But it cannot be! She killed him two years ago!
She drives back home in the middle of the night. And after a short nap, she finds her car missing. She reports it to the police. She soon finds out that her car was involved in an accident and she's a suspect.

Phew! What a story! It surely keeps you on the edge of your seat. The story alternates between the present and three years ago (Starting from the time when Morgan and David met for the first time). Their love story is no fairy tale. Morgan's being repeatedly told about David's 'habits' but she ignores it all. She's even caught him off guard once or twice but every time she confronts him, he bursts into tears. (such a drama queen!) Yet, she marries him. A no is a no is a no...

The character portrayal of Morgan and David are excellent. The rest - Ben, Jane, Andy and Yasmine are like side actors in the story. The mystery and the suspense well-maintained throughout the story. The ending is good too. The reason for all this psychological mishmash wasn't very convincing (to me) but I liked it because it was something different.

I recommend this book to those who love to read psychological thrillers.

Awesome read. Kerry's Wilkinson's standalone novels are getting better and better! This kept me guessing from the beginning to the very end - and the final twist was a joy to behold. By the time I got to the last page, I was almost sorry that the book had come to an end - that's how good the story was.

The story is quite simple - Morgan sees her husband in a photo - but it can't be him. She knows this because she killed him two years ago - everyone else thinks he disappeared, only she knows the truth. But as he continues to torment her from afar, and keeps popping up, she starts to wonder about what's going on.

The book moves from the present day, to the past, back and forth until everything converges in the heart stopping climax of the story. A highly recommended read.

this author just gets better and better I so love his books you never know what to expect Morgan has a very big secret . she is a fitness instructor who goes to her best friends party Jane and meets David but all is not what it seems I don't want to spoil it for readers its brilliant a few shocks on the way you like twisty gripping this the book for you one heck of a story

Really good fast paced read. This is a great story which builds in suspense the whole way through. I really like Kerry’s books. I like his writing style and the stories he tells.

This is a very good psychological thriller which had me hooked from the first page. It is written in the first person and jumps from the past to the present, a style which works very well. Morgan, the main character, has killed her husband David, and got away with it. As the story flicks back and forth, the tension mounts and we see the relationship develop. The story is well written, tense and an excellent plot. I would recommend this book. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

I have read a few of Kerry's books and loved them all. He is fast becoming one of my go to authors and his books never disappoint. This one kept me gripped from the first page to the last and I coulnd't put it down. Another cracking read.

I normally love anything written by Kerry Wilkinson but unfortunately this one just didn't grab me, it took me a while to get into the story, Morgan killed her husband, husband back from the dead stalking her, taunting her, how can that be? A good psychological premise and never guessed the twist but to be honest I was a bit disappointed at the ending. Overall an ok read.

‘Close To You’ is an exciting psychological thriller that starts with Morgan looking at the photograph of David, and then goes back three years and ten months to when Morgan first meets David at Jane’s 30th birthday party. The plot is dark and twisted, the characters interesting, and there are twists and turns with a final surprising twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting. From a relatively slow start the story gradually becomes more tense until I was unable to stop reading. Although possibly not one of my favourite Kerry Wilkinson novels it’s still very good and one I’m happy to recommend.

Couldn't put it down, just had to keep reading. Did not see the twists coming at all was absolutely sure that she had made a mistake in thinking she had done something that she hadn't.
Have read books by Kerry Wilkinson before and how she manages to write so many great stories with amazing characters is beyond me.

I love the Jessica Daniel series by this author so thought I would try one of his stand-alone novels. I really liked it!! A great psychological thriller that kept me gripped from start to finish, I finished it in a day. Plenty of twists and turns and tension with believable characters and a great ending. I would recommend this book and author.

What an interesting premise for a book. A friend snaps a picture of Morgan at an awards ceremony. Looking at the picture, Morgan is shocked to see her ex-husband in the background. Shocked, because she knows she killed him. And then things start going haywire.

The book is told in the Now and the Past (wonderfully labeled The Why). Wilkinson paints David as such an unappealing character, I had trouble seeing what Morgan ever saw in him. This also made it hard for me to relate to Morgan because I kept thinking “she can’t be that stupid”. And trust me, David is just one of her many stupid decisions. This book made me realize that while I don’t mind unreliable narrators, I really dislike stupid ones.

I am usually a big fan of Kerry Wilkinson. But this book wasn’t on par with his Jessica Daniels series.

I’ll give Wilkinson credit where due. It’s a fast paced book and I tore through it just to see how he’d finish it off. And no, I didn’t see that ending coming.

A stand alone from this author. A slow burner to start with and it took me a while to sort out who was who. When it all came together it certainly picked up pace. Told in two time periods which in no way was confusing or detract from my reading pleasure as some other books do. I soon had a compelling and addictive read. A twisty read that makes you think, most of the characters were likeable but no matter how I tried I could not like the main character. This is my own personal opinion. Almost five stars and highly recommended.

I enjoyed this book and really didn't expect the ending. My only slight disappointment was that I wanted more tension; for me there wasn't really enough. Will you feel the same? You'll have to read this book and make your own mind up. 4*

I’ve read Kerry Wilkinson’s Jessica Daniel books and this is the first time I’ve read one of the stand alone thrillers.

I felt at first the story moved along quite slowly. For me it took time to work out who was who in the story, how they knew each other and came together. The story picked up pace though and moved from past to present day very easily, and had a believable history. Not sure I liked the main character that much yet still found this a compelling and addictive read and I kept wanting to know what happened next. Read the book in a day, and it really held my attention. You know who the murderer is, although events in the book make you question if the victim is actually dead. Quite a few good twists in the story to keep you guessing until the end. I guessed who was behind the mysterious happenings and was right. All in all an enjoyable read.
