5 Stars aren’t enough! You are immersed in a futuristic time made totally believable by the talent of a true storyteller. The depth of characters portrayed make you feel like you are right there watching everything that is is happening. It’s so real that I jumped in my seat no less than two times and won’t count the gasps and giggles out loud.
-There are enough 20th century remains in the futuristic happenings to make it a truly believable world. If you are looking for a futuristic thriller romance, climb on board for the ride of your life. Oh and a though it is a stand-alone book, read Red Zone first for the total experience. Red Awakening is a fantastic follow-up to Red Zone. You’ll love them both.

This book is a serious thrill ride. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I am always amazed at how much emotion this author manages to pack into her novels, and this one is an excellent example of that. None of the characters are flat; they are all complicated and real. And I was so glad to finally learn about Mace's animal!

I wasn't sure what to expect of this book since it was a bit different for this author so I was super excited to see Mrs. Henderson wrote another amazing book. In fact I don't think she can write a bad book. This book kept me engrossed from start to finish, it was unpredictable, romantic, heart wrenching and so very well written. I very much look forward to reading more of this series.

Continuing the theme from RedZone, Janet Elizabeth Henderson wraps her world building magic around a new story and a new set of potential lovers in Red Awakening. Mace Armstrong is another army ranger sent to CommTECH to recruit/kidnap its Press Secretary, Keiko Sato; sparks fly from their first touch. This book has an abundance of humor, snark and romance with an extra dash of action. This strangely Dystopian look at society gone completely rogue, and the rebels trying to fix was extremely enjoyable! Loved Mace's nobility and heroism, and Keiko's quirky attitude and sense of honor: they worked well as a unit once trust was established....

I don’t often read paranormal romances but dived into Red Awakening because I’ve heard author Janet Elizabeth Henderson speak and this is one woman who knows how to add humour to a story. This one is set around 100 years into the future and is set in a reimagined USA which is now governed by a corporate entity called CommTECH. The story has elements of George Orwell’s 1984 in terms of the implants most people in this time regard as normal. The implants enable them to do all manner of things that we rely on our laptops, iPads and phones to do for us, but at the same time they enable others to monitor what’s going on.
Hero Mace Armstrong is all muscle, strength and gorgeous Viking beauty and yet he’s got a vulnerable side to him as well, which makes him all the more likeable. I loved the way petite heroine Keiko Sato reacted to him when they first met and the sheer animal magnetism between these two, yet in between the passion there was some humour to lighten the mood. The interaction between Mace and his bat, and no I’m not going to explain the bat’s role at this point, is endearing at times and comical at others, and I loved the way they worked as a team both to rescue Keiko and to complete their mission.
This story is fast paced and entertaining from the first page to the last. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author and if this is part of a series then I’ll definitely be putting the other books on my reading list.

Red Awakening by Janet Elizabeth Henderson is the second book in the Red Zone series. This is Mace's story, where we finally get to find out what his animal is. You won't be disappointed, and if you're like me, you'd have never guessed it!

Mace is the most vocally grumpy of the team, and it was great to see him meet his match in Keiko. I enjoyed getting to know Mace and Keiko; they are both characters that are easy to like. As in The Red Zone (book 1) this book is pretty much action from the first page to the last. However, the majority of the action is contained in one location, the CommTECH building, and in this, it is very much a tribute to the movie Die Hard.

The writing is smooth and grabs you immediately. I was hooked from the first page and didn't want to put it down until the end. However, I wasn't entirely as invested in this one as I was in The Red Zone. I can't quite put my finger on it, but Striker, Sam, and Friday just wriggled into my heart and didn't let go. I didn't want the Red Zone to end, I would have been quite happy for the entire series to be told from their point of view. I loved getting a glimpse of them in Red Awakening, and hope they also feature heavily in the following books.

I think one difference was Mace's animal (no spoilers), but he just didn't have the personality of Striker's Sam. Also, Keiko's relationship with his animal was a lot less personal than with Friday and Sam. In Red Awakening Keiko accepted Mace's animal as part of him but wasn't necessarily attached to him as an individual, whereas, Friday embraced both Striker and Sam together as a pair, and as individuals.

Technically, Red Awakening could be read as a standalone, but I'd *really* not recommend it. There is so much background, world and character building in the first book, that Red Awakening would be so much of a shallower experience without having this previous knowledge. Also, the Red Zone is just a fantastic book, and you'd be crazy to skip it!

Red Awakening is a fantastic second book to a series that is shaping up to be an exciting action-packed adventure. I can't wait to see what happens next!

The mission seemed simple enough even for an ex-army ranger out of his element by a century and should have been a walk in the park. Because Mace isn’t the only who breaks into the secure facility and the building is overrun with terrorists. Mace has to find a way out before he compromises himself and the entire Red Zone team to the enemy but there’s no leaving with the woman who inadvertently helped him get inside and she has no idea that she’s calling to the animal that’s been locked inside him for a century.

The second book in the ‘Red Zone’ series is action packed and full of extreme suspense that has readers holding their breath and while knuckling their books or ereaders. The characters are strong, vivid and believable which makes it easy for readers to become caught up in their story and the chemistry between the hero and heroine sizzles with enough electrical current to knock out all the power to the building they are in. The relationship however starts off on an exciting wrong foot and is full of feisty and heated arguments as they struggle to stay alive while denying their attraction.

The plot is fast paced, full of suspense and reminds readers of ‘Die Hard’ type movies where the action never stops and the readers can’t possibly find a moment to relax from the pulse pounding excitement. The author has certainly created a wonderfully different futuristic world and a creative paranormal being that is sorta shifter life but really isn’t which makes this a fascinating, feisty and entertaining must read book.

Ohhh very good book, Keiko is the press secretary for the ruling organization Comm-Tech. When a terror organization takes over the press conference Mace needs to find a way out. Keiko has knowledge of the building so she’s his way out. He has a secret. I voluntarily read and reviewed this advanced free complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Keiko thought that she found the man of her dreams, but he only wanted access to her company.
Mace did not want to lie to Keiko, but he needed to investigate CommTech.
On top of that, terrorists decided to take over the company that day.
Could this get any worse ?
Now Mace has to escape the terrorist and save Keiko.
Piece of cake, right ?
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.

This is the second volume in the Red Zone series but it can be read alone without trouble as the universe is well explained at the beginning. To resume, in the future people have implants, put during the childhood, used for quite everything: opening doors, paying for purchases, getting information about people you meet, … There’s no government any more in most of the territories as they are ruled by the leaders of the companies making the implants.

Mace, the hero, comes from another century, just like his team. Soldier stuck in a zone where the government from his time threw a gas to block the neighboring country, he woke up a hundred years later with an ADN modified by the one of the creatures that sought refuge in the same cavern. What is original is the fact each member of the team has a different animal, and Mace inherited a little bat, fact that tremendously annoys this big former soldier lol.
He’s a hero strong, decent, and because of his past he refuses to hurt women, which puts him in difficult situations when his adversary is female. It was funny seeing him often unsettled and/or annoyed by the heroine’s reactions or his animal’s comments. And I liked the fact that for once we don’t have a hero so strong he can go on fighting with broken bones and diverse wounds.

Keiko is CommTECH’s press secretary, she’s sure the company works toward the greater good and she’ll need a lot of persuasion from the hero for her pink-colored glasses to fall. As their meeting was followed by threats from Mace’s chief for her to help them, let’s say she doesn’t blindly trust them, quite the opposite. The author repeats several times that she’s short, but she compensates her height by an excess of energy that wears out the so calm hero at times. What’s more, she’s never at a loss for words, giving us quite funny moments that counterbalance the taught atmosphere of the situation.

The attraction between them is immediate, reinforced by the hero’s animal recognizing his mate, and if we have a sex scene at the beginning of the novel, the situation make so that both try to resist after that. Keiko doesn’t trust Mace anymore and is hurt by what happened, and Mace thinks she deserves better than him and it would be better for him to disappear from her life. But the air sizzles between them.

As for the plot side, the novel is full of action and hemoglobin. Indeed there are bag guys everywhere: CommTECH’s leaders who know what they do is not ready but don’t care about human’s lives as long as they make money; Enforcement and the building’s security, in these leaders’ pay and following orders without batting an eye; and members of the terrorist commando, who think they can force CommTECH to accept their demands by killing hostages live on TV.

So yes the novel takes place on two days if you don’t count the epilogue, so the feelings are rushed, but so much happens that this fact didn’t bother me. And as soon as I ended this novel I rushed to buy the first volume, which shows how much I appreciated my reading!

I’d not read the 1st in the series but this book worked well as a standalone. The futuristic Earth that the author built was interesting to say the least.
Loads of action and a rather cute romance made this a good read. Keiko, the heroine is spirited, well meaning though rather naively clueless to the nastiness of CommTECH, of which she is the press secretary for. She actually believes that they are the “good guys”.
Mace is her opposite in character. While Keiko is verbose (sometimes too much so), he is definitely the strong silent type.
Quite a fascinating story.

This is the second book set in the Red Zone. I enjoy post apocalyptic type books and this is similar those type of books. The previous characters make an appearance but this is Mace’s story. The heroine in this story is Keiko. The romance is full of ups and downs and perceived betrayals. It makes it interesting. Also this book is a true suspense thriller. It keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the book. All of the characters are well written and the story is truly engaging. Even as the book ends you are waiting anxiously for the next stories in this fascinating series.

Tighter, sexier, and funnier than book 1, Red Awakening truly lives up to its movie inspiration (Die Hard). Where book 1 had to spend a fair amount of time on world building, this book is able to jump straight into the action and takes us for a ride from page 1. I loved Mace and Keiko and they both grow a lot as characters throughout the book. The aspect of book 1 I didn't enjoy as much - the perspectives of the baddies - were much more sparing and short in this one. While that one felt dystopian to me, this book feels like pure sci-fi, with a much more joyful spirit. I highly recommend this one.

Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Red Awakening is a fast-paced emotional roller coaster that gave me ALL THE FEELS. Snort-laughing one moment, swooning the next, and ugly-crying right after that - not to forget all the nail-biting...

Mace is a marvelous paradox, being a stubborn sort-of-viking with jerk-y tendencies, but also a determined protector (especially of those of the female) persuasion. Keiko - just the perfect mix of strong, vulnerable, plus a bit naive where her employer is concerned - is an excellent match for him and a great addition to the Red Team family.

(Also: No spoilers, but I LOVE Mace's other half!)

Fast-paced and action-filled. While Red Awakening can be read as a standalone honestly you are going to be drawn to the other characters and you're going to want to know their story.
Yes, it is a HEA model but for those who are fans of strong females no she doesn't just roll over and accept her fate.
Wanna know more? Read the book! Trust me you will love it.

ARC Review: Janet Elizabeth Henderson is the BOMB! Vivid action scenes! Unconventional characters! Sultry, witty dialogue! Sizzling sex scenes! Laugh-out-loud moments! A perfect read leaving you wanting more!!!

Red Awakening, Book 2 in the Red Zone series, takes you on another adrenaline junkie's ride into a futurist world where corporations rule and governments do not exist. Yet goodness prevails in a group of left behind Army Rangers whose survival means staying under the radar. But for how long? Their mere existence holds secrets the bad guys would do anything to have. As they navigate this dangerous new world of science, implants, corporate avarice, despots and rebel groups, their hearts are captured by smart feisty females.

Pixy spitfire Keiko Sato is a PR spokesperson for one of these giant conglomerates. Mace Armstrong is a big hot mutant Texas Viking with an incredible body and a few other heightened strengths thanks to a wee furry sidekick. Instant attraction, chaos, peril at every turn and we are taken on one heck of a wild ride!!

Red Awakening is Hot! Hot! Hot! Be still my beating heart!!

Highly, highly recommend !!

This series is going from strength to strength and if you can suspend disbelief and just go with it then this is an outstanding and imaginative read. The idea that several soldiers were mutated one hundred years ago does I admit sound preposterous but in the hands of this creative author it absolutely does work .
In this futuristic world were neural implants are not only desirable but often mandatory CommTECH without a doubt control far more than they should. Corruption and greed lie at its heart but their public relations front person Keiko Sato has no idea of this and believes wholeheartedly in her work. What she hadn’t expected was to meet the man of her dreams only to discover he’s using her to get within her organisation. You would think that was bad enough but things are going to get a lot rougher and for some deadly !
Mace is not comfortable with his role of seducing the bold yet strangely naive Keiko and things very quickly escalate meaning Mace is left struggling to placate not only a spitting Keiko but his fellow Red Zone Warriors as well . The mission quickly goes wrong when terrorists take over the building leaving Mace and Keiko playing a deadly game of cat and mouse but there’s also that certain someone who is forever a part of Mace and that dear reader is going to blow your mind !
I absolutely loved this and the pace was nonstop. If you’ve ever seen Die Hard then you can imagine a building overtaken by terrorists which leaves Mace firmly cast in a role that this time didn’t call for a vest ! Yes it’s just as frenetic and dangerous as any action film and Mace certainly has his work cut out saving Keiko.
Keiko might be in the dark about her companies crimes but she’s no shy, retiring miss. Keiko is an absolute hoot and takes on Mace at every turn. This couple are without a doubt bonded in fire and it’s honestly hilarious reading about their exploits. Plus of course there’s that certain someone ( my lips are sealed but you will be gobsmacked) who really gets to upset every plan Mace makes but it added so much to this story and I cannot wait for more . This book had everything I want action, great characters, passion and humour. Yes it works as a stand-alone but I do recommend reading the first book because this series is fast turning into a must read and I want to shout about it from the rooftops.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

This book will make your blood boil, your heart race and drag you to the edge of your seat. There were moments when I wanted to slap some sense into Keiko and high five her at the same time. The book goes from 0 to 100 within pages and does not slow down to give you a break. I absolutely loved the characters and their banter.
