I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book took me awhile to get through, but it was very encouraging. I loved how candid the author was about her family and their struggles. It convicted me to grumble less, too!

I like to hear about what people do to live without complaining, I find it very interesting, encouraging, and inspiring. I just took this book because I had heard about Tricia Goyer so much and wanted to know a little bit of her style. Every person and family is different, history, background, and personal decisions but you can not deny that when you hear an attempt like this you want to also do something similar to spice things a little bit. We must be thankful every day and remind ourselves life is so very short to whine. When I see things like this I wonder if they really do it to live the experience or because they had a book contract, probably we will never know for sure, but it is entertaining for sure. Every time you let God have the control of your life (actually He has it even if you don´t believe it) extraordinary things happen in our own little worlds. I hope and pray I can teach my children to endure everything and not to whine, eye roll, mumble, or complain about the things they must endure in life. Leave everything to God, trust in him, and have the best of attitude every day He allows them to live.

Tricia Goyer has done it again! A book that gives some insight into her unique family. The many ups, downs, triumphs and challenges that this family lives are sure to strike a note, with each and every one of us. It gives the reader a sense the life is not perfect but that life is a blessing, with all it's trials and tribulations. Take the time to read and enjoy this book of faith and family....you won't regret it.

First off, how fun is that cover? Rain and sunshine, so fitting for grumbling, right? Or not grumbling? I just think this is a fun looking cover.

Calling it a social experiment and a book contract, Tricia joins forces with her husband, John, their 8 children still at home, and her grandma who lives with them, but has dementia, to try a year of no grumbling. How can this possibly work? When you embark upon an experiment like this, you have no idea what the end result will be, but however it ends, there will be a book about it. Tricia hopes, before starting the experiment, that this will be a real example to other moms about her skills and intentionality with her children, but realizes very shortly that there is so much more to this. This experiment becomes about changing from the inside, it becomes about letting God be in control, it becomes not a year completely free of grumbling, but a year in which attitudes are investigated, hearts are changed, and grumbling becomes more infrequent.

Because while this project would be hard, in and of itself, let's add in some medical emergencies that tie the family down and reduces the extracurricular family activities or even sports activities that would normally be a part of their life. Let's add in the need for extra and extended help that is required to get through this season and you have an atmosphere ripe for grumbling. And yet, dear Grandma teaches them all a lesson. Despite her dementia, she remembers to praise the Lord. I thought it was the sweetest thing and shows Grandma's focus in life when she was alert and oriented.

"If we had to schedule turning points, we never would - who wants to schedule a crisis? Yet maybe they're what we need once in a while, just to get everyone focused on what really matters." This is so true. Along with that is another quote I found fitting: "When you look down at your feet during trials, what do you find yourself standing on?" Am I standing on Jesus Christ as my Rock and Fortress or am I standing on me and hoping I don't tip myself off?

I really enjoyed this book and found it quite fitting for this stage of quarantine, when it would be so easy to grumble and complain about the disruption to our lifestyles and comfort levels. And yet, as the book suggests we say about everything, there is really nothing to grumble about. I was challenged to seek out praise and gratitude for everything instead of pouting and grumbling.

I received this book from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Grumble Free Year by Tricia Goyer is the perfect book to read during the current situation. It follows a large family over the course of a year in their attempts to stop grumbling. It made me much more aware of the times I am tempted to complain. I appreciated the author's real and honest portrayal of her family. Did it make her family or will it make any family grumble-free? No. The point is to try to be better today than the day before.

Who doesn't need to grumble less? Most of us do more than our fair share. Author Tricia Goyer challenged her family to shut it down for 1 year. They struggled, as most of us would.

She chronicles the year here in her book, starting with how the project got started, and journals through their failures and their successes as the year progressed with all 11 members of their family.

"I may have thought the Grumble-Free Year would be mostly about “them,” my family, when we first started, but, as you will see within these pages, every change I wanted to see in them ended up having to be worked out in me first."

I appreciate her honesty in this book. She doesn't make it look easy.

Manifestations of grumbling in her family:

"Whining, eye-rolling, mumbling, complaining. And as I wrote each one on the board, we all came to the same realization: each of these ways of grumbling represented different members of our family."

But she shows that it is possible (or at least partially possible) to have a grumble-free year. The book is mostly about how her family did it, more than showing you how to do it. But Goyer does have questions at the end of each chapter so you can derive your own lessons from it.

My thanks to Net Galley for the review copy of this book.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A mom wanted to try an experiment and see if she could get her family to go through an entire year grumble free and what they found really changed their lives. Excellent read and an even better listen.

This book is a vulnerable and open look at the author’s experiences. I found it really easy to read and connect with their story, hoe often have i felt as if i would be better off with a little less complaining and a little more gratitude,

The author is open about her faith and how that impacts her gratitude, the book is well written and the lessons are relevant for anyone. The author talks about the ideas that worked well for her and the ones that didn’t..

This is a great read with much to teach us.

Thank You NetGalley for an advanced readers copy in return for my honest opinion.

I’m a big Tricia Goyer fan. I enjoy hearing her speak because she is such a breath of fresh air and has so much wisdom to share. This book was like having a chit chat with Tricia. There are many applicable tips throughout this book. I would recommend this to all busy women and mamas out there.

One busy mom did an experiment with her family to teach them all how to spend less time grumbling for an entire year. They all learned so much through the process and were able to make positive changes in their lives. This book was very inspirational and everyone can benefit from reading this! Thank you so much to the author, publisher, and netgalley for the chance to read and review this book!

I really enjoyed The Grumble-Free Year: Twelve Months, Eleven Family Members, and One Impossible Goal by Tricia Goyer. I first heard of Tricia when she was interviewed on a podcast I listen to. When she discussed their grumble free year, I was intrigued.

When I started reading the book, I thought that I would learn tricks to help my kiddos but I actually learned more about my own grumbling and how much that affects. I did learn about ways I can train my children and also ways I can work on my own heart.

I found this to be an easy read. It was part reading their story and part learning more about grumbling.

This book would be a great addition to your reading list this year.

I was blessed to receive an electronic copy via the publisher. All opinions are my own.

The Grumble Free Year by Tricia Goyer is an awesome book about how Tricia decided to help her children learn how to live happily together without bickering, fighting and bad relationships. In this book she tells how she incorporated her plans for a grumble free year into her homeschool. She used scripture that correlated with their goals and planned activities to see what caused the grumbling. At the end of the chapter she includes reflection questions. I gained many helpful nuggets from this book that I plan to incorporate into my own home. This book has challenged me to address the grumbling problem in my own home and heart. I would recommend this book to any mother who is tired of the daily grumble!

Have you ever been around people who grumble and complain all the time? It is not pleasant and makes you want to scream. What if your family was the one grumbling all the time? In this book the author takes us on a challenge and journey to freedom from grumbling for a year.

As in everything that is different from your routine, this book will motivate you into rethinking how you react to every day life. I would love to have been in the family meeting when the author suggested this eye opening exercise. I know I grumble a lot and yes I have even been called a nag. I decided that I was going to try this book out on myself. I will begin it in January and see how it goes.

The author’s house is full of people from different ages and I loved how she shared their experiences. There are scriptures included and at the end of each chapter a reflection page. It was so fun to take this journey with the author and her family. I laughed as one of them hoped to get famous through the book, while another wanted to know if a famous author would be following them around for a year. I think they forgot that they live with a very famous and gifted author.

I really enjoyed each chapter and loved how the author and her family slowly changed their thinking as they became more joyful and less stressful. In reading the book one of the key ingredients to a grumble free life is our heart. We need to look at ourselves inside and deal with any bitterness that is preventing us from being happy. It is important to look at all the good that is in our life and focus on what God has done for us. Another point that the book made was how important communication was. How will our spouse know what is wrong if we don’t let them know? Keeping things bottled up brings out bitterness which leads to unhappiness.

I loved getting to know the author and her family as they took a journey that showed them how to be thankful, joyful and content. I learned through the book to be happy where I am at in my life and to thank God each day for His unconditional love. The book is filled with scriptures and examples in the Bible that helps us see how a grumble free life can bring peace. The author does a great job of being transparent throughout the book and I appreciate her sharing this journey with her readers. The challenge now is for us to decide if we want to be grumble free.

“Change must always start with our hearts.”

“God doesn’t expect any of us to be perfect, but complaining is something He takes seriously.”

I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.

In her book "The Grumble-Free Year" Tricia Goyer recounts the year her family spent eliminating the habit of grumbling that permeated their home. Using funny anecdotes and even transparently sharing failures, the author makes a compelling case for establishing gratitude as an important character trait in your home. I enjoyed the humility that was displayed by her writing, and also enjoyed reading about her large family (which consists of biological, foster, and adoptive children). I would recommend this book to any family who needs a reminder about the importance of thankfulness.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I am reviewing a copy of The Grumble-Free Year through Nelson Books and Netgalley:

Can a family of eleven including eight kids, and a Grandmother with dementia really take on a grumble free year? A family that is never without noise or mess, and is often dealing with complaining.

But can your family take on this challenge, can you see your family having real communication more often, and grumbling far less? In this book you will see that it is possible. The Goyer family decided to move out of survival mode and into growth mode, taking on The Grumble Free Challenge proved to be challenging for this large boisterous, loving, family.

Loud grade schoolers, teenagers and having a Grandmother who believed that Children should be seen and not heard, made the challenge, a difficult one, but it was a challenge the family was determined to meet this challenge, and they did by the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The Grumble Free Year is your invitation to fill your heart with gratitude instead of grumbling, it encourages you to let go of the complaining and replace it with gratitude.

I give The Grumble Free Year five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

I really enjoyed this documentary style book and found the author to be very transparent and humorous, which made me want to keep reading. I’ve already implemented some of the challenges put forward in our family. I was inspired and challenged.

This fly-on-the-wall true story of Christian parents who trialed a 'grumble-free' year is inspiring and beautiful. The writing makes you feel like you are there with the family and I feel inspired to try this myself. Highly recommended. Not preachy either.
