I enjoyed reading this book. The characters are likable and believable. I like that the ghost (Doris) is friendly and how the characters warm to her and treat her like a friend. The mystery surrounding the death of Alan and being intertwined with his daughter Mia and his wifes friend was interesting and a good plot. Although I could see who the killer was and why they did it, it was still a fun read, even without any surprises. I would recommend reading it.

This is the first of a series, but the second book I read in the series and I strongly suggest anyone who reads them to start with this one. The second one makes much more sense then!

It’s a cute cozy mystery with a ghost (Doris) who wants her murder solved, a cat who doesn’t particularly like it when Doris takes him over, quirky characters, and more. Cass has divorced her philandering husband, moved from her posh San Francisco home to a coastal cottage, and is working on finding a new job, new friends—and the clues to who murdered her resident ghost and the bookstore owner. Oh, and the local detective is an old boyfriend. Let the fun begin.

What I liked: The characters are fun, weird, and definitely not boring. I especially loved Doris—she’s so much fun! The author had me hooked with her first line: “Ghosts can be murder on property values.” I knew then this was going to be fun. And it was.

What I didn’t like: a few minor editorial issues (peaked vs. piqued) and other similar things. Not enough to detract from the story, but a stronger proofreader would have helped.

Recommendation: Definitely pick this one up for a fun read.

I requested this book because I had already requested the next in the series, without realizing it was the second. Unfortunately, this title didn’t hold my interest. I understand the first in a deities has a lot to set up, but there was so much repetition. I often had trouble figuring out when the day and or scene was changing. I felt it was a bit too long also. Ok, a lot too long. I am hoping I will enjoy the second better.

It's California and the neighbors are no weirder than the ghost who resides in Cass's fixer upper just purchased after divorce. Well, there's the LARPers who often gather at the beach, the odd but very good veterinarian, the surfer dude, and then there's the body on the beach. Excellent twisty plot full of fascinating characters and freaked out family. Great read, even if I did read it *after* Coastal Corpse!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from The Wild Rose Press via NetGalley. Thank you!
