Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Nina experienced most people's worst nightmare. Her husband had an affair and vanished. No one knows if he's dead or alive. But things take a turn when her now-fiancé, Simon, comes to the rescue. He seems to be the perfect future husband and absolutely adores Nina. Best of all, he is a teacher at her children's school so she knows he's great with kids. Things may not be as they appear though... when Nina seems hesitant to get married quickly, Simon slowly begins to reveal another side to him that she hasn't seen before.
This was amazing. I was able to somewhat predict the twists, but this kept me turning the pages the entire time. My heart was racing for most of the book as I learned more about the characters and their backstories. I found myself frustrated and holding my breath as Nina ignored her family and friends' warnings about Simon's possessive behavior and rushed to keep reading hoping for things to start getting resolved. Palmer did a brilliant job--I had to avoid reading this book late at night because I was creeped out! This was truly a thriller that will make your heart race and I definitely recommend.

Wow. What a wild ride! Just when you think you’ve read it all before, comes ... The New Husband!
Having enjoyed reading Saving Megan , I couldn’t wait to dive into this book, and dive I did, I wasn’t prepared to be consumed like I was. This book was a twisty, dark, psychological read ,that will haunt you long after you turn the last page.

Very suspenseful and entertaining! I thoroughly enjoyed this book way more than this author’s previous book. Looking forward to more reads!

Great book! Suspenseful! Nina finds out her husband is missing. She finds out he lived a double life she or their children knew nothing about. Glen supposedly drowned while fishing All they found is their dog and blood on the boat. Nina meets a man named Simon about a year later. He’s a teacher at her daughter’s middle school. Maggie is not happy her mom moved on so fast with Simon and neither are her friends. Are they right? Did Nina unwillingly put her family at risk?

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and D.J. Palmer for an ARC of The New Husband in exchange for my honest review.
After the husband is presumed dead, the wife moves in with the new boyfriend, along with her 2 children. The daughter isn't a big fan of the boyfriend, and while there are many clues woven into the story line, the book doesn't give up any of it's secrets until the end.
This was a great read, and should be put on everyone's TBR list.

Intense quick read that will keep you turning the pages. This book will hook you from the first page and leave you wanting more when you stop. Great mystery read!
Thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this thriller. The story is of an unsolved disappearance, a family trying to get on with their lives, a mother in a new relationship and a daughter with questions, well written and suspense filled. I had a hard time putting the novel down.

Have you ever read a book that makes you want to put it down, not because it is bad, but because it is THAT GOOD?? I didn't want it to end! It reminded me why I like suspense novels so much... The anticipation, the jaw dropping twists, and the redemption ( the book MUST have redemption!) I LOVED this book! *
4⭐
The New Husband by D.J. Palmer was everything I hope for in a book. It had suspense, anticipation, angst, plot twists, little bit of romance (sort of) and redemption. I found myself getting mad at Nina , but I think you are supposed to. You are supposed to question her, and cheer her on. But it was Maggie, Nina's daughter, that I really loved! Yes she is a typical teenager ,but her love for her mom and dad was always her main motivation. *
D.J. Palmer told an angst filled story with awesome characters and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I received this ARC from @stmartinspress for my honest review.

I felt like I’ve read this book before. I’m looking through my past reads because this story sounds familiar. It was ok, but familiar. Also, Nina is an idiot. I was hoping for more because I loved the authors prior book.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC

Received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was a new author for me, and I was excited by the idea of this mystery suspense book.
Soon after starting the book, I felt like the plot was very familiar and predictable.
The main character was very frustrating with her naivete attitude. After her husband passes away, she moves on to a new man.
Right away things seemed too good to be true.
The book has some strong points. It is a good beach read, for anyone that enjoys a mystery.

Liked ..... but didn’t love this book. It was like a Lifetime movie. It kept my attention and I wanted to finish it to see what happened to all the characters.
The book had a lot of good points - a compelling mystery and good writing for the most part. But there were weak points. First of all, the title... there was a new boyfriend but the main character didn’t marry him. There were also some parts of the story that took me out of the book. An example, the lead character visits an unconscious crime victim at the hospital despite having no family connection. I kept thinking there is no way the hospital staff would allow that.
But despite the book’s weak points, I definitely see it being a compelling read. It would make a great beach novel. I would recommend to any library patrons that enjoy books along the Gone Girl lines.

This is a intense, tense and utterly twisted psychological thriller of lies and secrets by DJ Palmer. Just how well is it possible to know your partner in a marriage? Nina Garrity finds everything she thought she knew about her husband, Glenn, collapses after he goes missing on a fishing trip, the boat has lots of blood but questions as to Glenn's whereabouts remain unanswered. Simon Fitch, a teacher, appears on the scene, a sweet, caring and kind man, the complete antithesis to the untrustworthy Glenn as far as Nina is concerned, in short he is the perfect man that she has been lucky to snag. He is a grieving widower, mourning the loss of his wife who committed suicide, successfully worming his way into Nina's life. Nina's son, Connor, takes to him but her daughter, Maggie, is more sceptical and hostile, she doesn't buy into his good guy shtick and intuitively understands that he is bad news.
Nina tries to learn the lessons of her past, she begins to look into who exactly Simon is, and Simon is a man with secrets. What happened to Glenn? This is a well written and wonderfully plotted read, of the terrors of who you can let into your home and family, a gaslighting, manipulative and controlling psychopath, secrets and lies, and the courageous Maggie. A dark, disturbing and unsettling thriller, a great read that you will have to suspend disbelief for, that fans of psychological thrillers are likely to love. Many thanks to St Martin's Press for an ARC.

This was an awesome book that drags you in from the beginning!! I read it quickly but very much enjoyed!!

Another fantastic thriller from Palmer. Thouroughly enjoyed and will continue to read books from this author. Saving Meghan, his previous novel, was one of my favorites. This one is fab, but missed the suspense I expected.

Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced ecopy of this book!
This book was a slow start but intriguing enough to keep me reading. My second read from DJ Palmer and totally different. I knew something was up with Simon, he just didn’t feel right. The kids were a little annoying throughout the story. The buildup was good and worth the wait! I enjoyed this one!

So well written! Absolutely 5 stars!

Glen Garrity was running away from the horrendous mistake he had made. Maybe a little fishing would help him to find a way out of his predicament. He would take his boat and fish a while, or that’s what he anticipated. Another fisherman found his boat with only the dog daisy on board. There was blood everywhere, but where was Glen He was no where to be found. Detective Wheeler and the Sheriffs Department scoured the lake and the woods nearby, but there was no recovery. Hie wife, Nina was devastated. She called the bank where he had worked in hopes of being able to keep the medical insurance for the children. What she found was very disturbing. Glen hadn’t worked at the bank for two years. When she started delving into their finances, she found that all the money was gone; the investments, the children’s college funds, all were gone. Why hadn’t Glen shared his firing with her? Where did he go everyday that he was supposed to be working? What was she to do? She hadn’t worked in nearly 15 years. Then to add more heartache to everything, their dog, Daisy was missing. Fortunately, a very nice man had rescued her and returned her to the family. His name was Simon. He started asking her out on dates. They became an item, and the relationship moved very quickly. They bought a house together and started a new life, or so Nina thought. Maggie, her youngest child, was not having any part of this new relationship. There was something she didn’t trust about this man. Even Nina’s friends didn’t like how fast this relationship was moving. Simon seemed to be very controlling, but covered it up with being sweet and caring, and he was always buying her gifts. Nina’s friends were getting very tired of her always cancelling dinner and movie dates with her, and it all revolved around Simon. Why were so many unexplained things happening to her and her family? Was Glen really dead? Why was Simon such a closed book regarding his past? Why all the secrecy about his family? What was he hiding, and why? What was it that Maggie was picking up on? Is the family in danger? I absolutely loved this book? The plot was very well thought out. The character development was definitely superb. I couldn’t wait to find out what was on the next page. I certainly developed a hatred for Simon, the antagonist, as the story unfolded. I don’t want to spoil this for anyone else, so I will stop with that last tidbit. The author really outdid himself with this book. All I can say is, “you need to definitely read this book.”

I so enjoyed reading The New Husband and could not put it down until I had read all the way to the end.
The prologue is very interesting and immediately I want to know why this dog is on an abandoned boat and why is there so much blood? Then we fast forward to Nina Garrity is finally starting her life over with a new man. Devastated after her husband disappears, not knowing if he is dead or alive... the last year was filled with discovering all his hidden secrets and an affair that leaves her feeling betrayed and alone. Simon, a teacher at the school where her daughter attends is her new love interest and a couple years after Glenn goes missing, Simon and Nina buy a house together. He gets along great with her son, but her daughter refuses to go with it and causes trouble just about everyday.
Sometimes there are unexpected surprises in life and sometimes things are slightly predictable, nonetheless The New Husband is a book I really enjoyed and am looking forward to more books by D.J, Palmer More than anything is the deep fear within adults that we will make the wrong choice and not listen to the voice who knows the truth.
***Triggers: Domestic violence and emotional/physical abuse ***

The New Husband is a haunting story about love, loss, and control. Nina Garrity is at a loss when her husband, Glen, disappears from his fishing boat. She and her two children have no answers or even know if he's dead. Seventeen months after his disappearance, Simon Fitch steals Nina's heart. Some think it is too soon for Nina, but in the aftermath of her husband going MIA, Nina was sent pictures of him kissing another woman and found out he was fired from his job two years before he went missing. Simon and Nina move in together, along with Nina's kids, Maggie and Connor. Maggie has a gut feeling about Simon, and can't shake the strange feeling he gives her. Nina ignores Maggie's worries, chalking it up to the loss of her father, but when Simon slowly isolates Nina, changes her appearance, and discourages her from working, Nina second guesses herself. Is Simon just looking out for the family? And why did Glen keep so many secrets?
This book was paced well and the characters had complexity. I really liked Maggie's character, and how protective she was. I also liked the role that Maggie's friend, Ben, played and how the author used the friendship to develop the story. I thought the plot twists were unique and the ending was surprising. I would warn readers that this may not be a good book if you're sensitive to domestic abuse.

Absolutely enjoyed reading this. Minimal copy issues (typos, etc.) which is always something that stands out to me.
The story pulled me in right away - why was a dog alone on a blood covered boat? And who was the person who stumbled across it?
As the story unfolded, I knew where it was going. Simon was a detestable character and I found myself getting angry with Nina as she continuously ignored Maggie's pleas and kept falling into the void of Simon. However, I knew it was only a matter of time until Nina would discover his true nature.
This was a great read and I'll be recommending it to others.
