Let's be clear: spiders are scary. Putting a 'cute', hidden one on each page just freaks me out a bit. Although the 5 and 7 year old girls I read this too probably found my fear funnier than the story itself (lol). I genuinely have a fear of spiders and I try not to pass it onto the children in my life. So this was a perfect little story to explain to them why it's not okay to intentionally scare others; because you won't like it when it happens to you.
Cute, colourful, and clever!

Please note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review.

I LOVE this! What a cute little story about boundaries and respect. These two little piggies play silly spooky games and my son was so happy to play along.

You Can't Scare Me is a very sweet kids picture book that star 2 little pigs, Walter and Willy. They are good friends but Walter is always trying to scare Willy. Willy decides to turn the tables and scare Walter. It showed Willy what it was like to be scared. Loved this one more than I want to admit. Great moral story and I really enjoyed the pictures!

Walter and Willie are friends. But even thought they are friends they don't listen t each other. My daughter is a pre school teacher and after reading this book, would love to have it in her classroom. Its a great book about feelings and listening to each other to avoid bad feeling. She wishes it were real kids and not animals though.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This book is about two best friends Walter and Willy. Walter is forever teasing Willy and playing pranks on him to scare him and won't stop even when Willy asks him to over and over. In the end Willy runs home scared but then plays a huge prank on Walter to get his own back.
This is a cute book for children about listening to each other and learning when a joke goes too far and when to stop.

I read this book a couple of times because I thought maybe I had missed something, but no, I didn't. I loved the cover of this one and the synopsis, but once I read it, it is not a book I would read to my grandchildren. Walter and Willy are best friends, but very different. When Willy sleeps over at Walter's, Walter is not very nice to him. He continues to tease him even when he is asked to stop. he tries to scare him until Willy gets angry and leaves on his own. All things that I do not want my grandchildren to emulate. Best friends should not treat each other that way. The thought of Willy leaving and heading home at night without telling anyone is really scary. To top it all off, the problem is "solved" by Willy doing the same thing to his "friend", It is the whole if he can do, I can do it right back, which again, not a message I want to send. What happened to "two wrongs don't make a right". This is sad because the illustrations are wonderful and whimsical. Unfortunately, this is not one I would recommend.

Willy is easily scared by Walter, but it gets to be too much when he sleeps over at Walter’s house. But Walter gets a fright of his own.

This is a fun story for kids. They will giggle at Walter’s attempt to scare Willy. They will laugh when Walter gets a huge scare himself. The pig’s friendship is clear. Walter scaring Willy comes across as good natured. He just won’t stop when asked.

The lesson is clear – sometimes teasing can go too far and hurt others.

Kids like to tease each other, it’s part of life. It’s good to reinforce to children that it’s important to speak up for yourself and ask the other person to stop if it’s going to far. This book encourages that behavior as well as takes the next step to demonstrate to children it’s okay to leave when friends don’t listen and sometimes everyone needs a break. Sometimes it’s even good to give a friend a taste of their own medicine to open their eyes. Cute book highlighting all these ideas. I found the alliteration of the names distracting. It would of been helpful to have different letters to separate the two characters. It would be good for preschool or kindergarten level.

You Can’t Scare Me is a cute story of two friends learning to each other’s boundaries within their relationship. I read it with my 3 year old and he asked me to read it again immediately after... So it’s kid approved! We both loved the illustrations.

Walter and Willy are 100% my best friend and I when we were young. I'm more like Walter. She'd scare me and I wouldn't come over for a while and then I'd scare her back. How else do you have fun friendships when you are younger.

This was super cute. And the illustration was amazing!

You Can't Scare Me by Bonnie Grubman is a great conversation starter with your child about the necessity of setting (and respecting!) boundaries with friends or anyone else in your life. Walter thinks it's really funny to repeatedly scare Willy who has already made it clear that he does not want that. When Walter takes it too far and his best friend walks out of his house (his life?), Walter realizes that maybe he took it too far this time. Will he be able to reconcile with Willy and continue being friends with Willy? Whether you use this opportunity to teach your child about boundaries or not, they are sure to enjoy the story and pretty illustrations.

I really enjoyed this book. It portrays dynamics of friendship struggles really well. The book explores a sleepover between two best friends. One is having a great time scaring the other one, who doesn't want to be scared. I loved that the author showed how to effectively use your voice to set boundaries and how it feels when boundaries aren't respected.

A great book for children and would lead to a great discussion. Add this to your classroom or library!

The only thing that I liked about this book was the illustrations. Walter sounds like an awful friend; I would never be friends with someone like him. What really bothered me was that even though Willy repeatedly asked Walker to please stop, Walter didn’t. This book is a good example of what NOT to do at sleepovers. Maybe parents should read this book to their children and say “Don’t be like Walter!”

This is a great book that will show children a friendship. It will also teach them about pranks (the good and bad) and also about forgiveness.
