The widowed Lady Avalon Warwick never did love her arrogant, selfish, cruel husband, so she was almost happy about his demise. Besides, it allowed her to pursue her love helping fallen women become businesswomen. She really had no desire or need to remarry. However, the charming vicar, rake and the brother of her husband’s choice for her son’s guardian came into town to keep tabs on her and her son. Lady Avalon knows just who he is and will have no part of the vicar. For his part, the vicar wants to show Lady Avalon his true spirit as a trusted soul, just looking for another, and searches for away to prove to her that he truly wants to care for her and her son until death.
This is a pretty good love story. I will admit I was not a fan of ether of the two main characters at the start, but they grew on me, as I watched them more fully develop. It was nice to see characters interact and converse naturally, pulling me right into the steamy and interesting side of their lives. The story did drag at times, but made up for that when it moved along nicely. All in all, I enjoyed the story and the main characters and their interactions. A good book for others who have read books in the series and for readers looking for a good romance. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

Wild Wild Rake is the 6th in the series Cavensham Heiresses series, but it could also be read as a stand a lone book. I found it an enjoyable read. Both of the main characters (Lady Avalon and Vicar Dean) are dealing with emotional baggage that they have to overcome. Lady Avalon is a strong heroine and Vicar Dean is not who everyone thinks he is. I recommend the book and the series!
I did receive an arc from NetGalley

This has long been a series I’ve enjoyed and this entry is no different. The characters are interesting and I enjoyed learning about them despite Avalon’s sad backstory. She and Devan have a very sexy relationship and I loved their HEA despite Avalon’s persistent doubts. A great read!

Thank you for letting me read this book. I was wondering who would be that lady to capture Devin Farris. I never thought it would be the one he named Lady Warlock. I loved their chemistry and his relationship with her son Thane. It was a little creepy reading about the Vicar being intimate. But overall I loved the story.

I gave Wild, Wild Rake four stars because it's a good, solid romance. And yet, it wasn't my favorite Janna MacGregor novel. If that makes any sense?
Maybe it was the pacing or maybe just the particulars of this plot, but it took a me a little while to really be sucked into this story. Eventually though I did connect and it was smooth sailing from there. If you like virgin heroes (and in particular vigin VICAR heroes) then I suspect you will enjoy this book!
Thank you Netgalley and St Martin's for the opportunity to read and advanced copy. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really liked the first third of the book, but thought the rest of it boring. I also disliked Penelope's storyline . 2 and a half stars.

I loved Avalon and Devan's story.
In my opinion it is the best of the series and I have read and reviewed all of them.
The biblical references are an eloquent addition. Avalon.seems to be unlikely to ever find love after her horrible first marriage and Devan unlikely to ever find a woman he could devote his life to. He is the ultimate hero. A rakes reputation in a man who is not a rake at all. The virgin hero...
I gave this book 5 of 5 stars for plot, story line and character development.
I received a complimentary copy off this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
This book was a bit hard for me to get into as Avalon really had the worst story for an arranged marriage and she is treated terrible by a vicar! It was only as the story moves on and we get to know both of them that I was able to start liking the story.
Devan gave the world a false view of who he was and that just was a bit of a turn off for me and it was only later in the book that when he reveals his secret that I kind of like him. And after his Lady Warlock turns from mocking to more of a nickname or term of endearment!
As they get to know each other, they do find that they have similar views on helping people and eventually start their romance and get their HEA

She's widowed and she's not unhappy. Truth be told, she is rather relieved. Her husband was selfish and cruel, and in the ways of the ton, Lady Avalon Warwyck, would have had no choice but to suffer his awful ways for decades. Instead, she now has the chance to focus on her son, Thane, as well as her work. Avalon helps fallen women find their way in society so that they can manage on their own if need be.
One caveat in her plan with Thane, however, is the guardian her husband's will provided. He wants to send Thane away to school, and he has that right. However, he needs a tutor for a time, and a vicar, Devan Farris, has been assigned the task.
Devan can never feel comfortable with his flock. His brother, who obviously has connections, freely moves Devan from one parish to the next. As frustrated as Devan is by this most recent change, he quickly finds this assignment is not as distasteful as he imagined it to be. He finds himself quite drawn to both Avalon and Thane. This is rather interesting to Devan, because, despite the reputation he has gained as a rake, nothing could be further than the truth.
Will Avalon be able to let her hurtful marriage be a thing of the past and give love another chance in the form of Devan? Can Devan disprove his reputation and prove to be a worthy match for her? What about the church - and those nasty rumors? Will they ever come to an end?
Wild, Wild Rake is a delightful story. I had not had a chance to read any of the previous books in the series, but I had no problem jumping right into this story. Both characters, as well as Thane, were quite convincing and their story was enjoyable. I am interested to see if there will be further books in this series.
Many thanks to St. Martin's Paperbacks and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

3.5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley & St Martins press for this ARC. The review is my own.
“Lady Avalon Warwyk never did love her husband. Arrogant, selfish, and cruel, it’s a blessing when she’s widowed and left to raise her son all by herself. Finally, Avalon can live freely and do the work she loves: helping fallen women become businesswomen. She’s lived these past ten years with no desire to remarry—that is, until Mr. Devan Farris comes to town.”
I liked this story in general, but thought that the plot took a little bit longer to build than would have been ideal. Fortunately, the characters were charming, so it didn’t feel laborious. This is part of a series, but could be a standalone.

Wild, Wild Rake by Janna MacGregor. Feb. 25, 2020 St. Martin’s Books. My copy from Netgalley.
Amazon’s blurb: Wild, Wild Rake, the next sweeping, emotional, witty, and sharp romance in the Cavensham Heiresses series from beloved author Janna MacGregor.
Her first marriage was an epic fail.
Lady Avalon Warwyk never did love her husband. Arrogant, selfish, and cruel, it’s a blessing when she’s widowed and left to raise her son all by herself. Can he convince her to take another chance at happily ever after?
Devan Farris—charming vicar, reputed rake, and the brother of Avalon’s son’s guardian—is reluctantly sent to town to keep tabs on Avalon and her son. Devan wishes he didn’t have to meddle in her affairs; he’s not one to trod on a woman’s independent nature and keen sense of convictions. But she’ll have nothing to do with a vicar with a wild reputation—even though he’s never given his heart and body to another. If only he could find a way to show Avalon who he really is on the inside—a good, true soul looking for its other half. But how can prove that he wants to love and care for her. . .until death do they part?
Praise for the Cavensham Heiresses series
“Full-bodied romance…with intelligence and heart.”—New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell
“Sparkling…MacGregor brings England’s Regency era to life.” —Publishers Weekly
My Bookreview: Lady Avalon just knows the Earl sent his rake of a brother, Vicar Farris to thwart her in her raising of her son and to take her townspeople from her patronage. She gives him a stiff welcome only to find him unaffected by her attempts to buy him off. He wants to marry an heiress he tells her. Could that heiress be her?
A delightful romance from the get-go the sparks fly! No one has dared to ruffle Lady Avalon’s feathers like Devan Farris and she’s determined to oust him from her Parrish. However, another’s motives may take care of such for her.

Wild, Wild Rake is the sixth book in The Cavensham Heiresses series
I'm a big fan of Janna's and I have enjoyed this series, but this book was just an okay read for me. I really didn't like how Devan treated Avalon at the beginning. He seemed to make comments towards her just to push her buttons, because he enjoyed seeing her reactions. As the story unfolds and he gets to know her better he begins to change and he became a likable character for me. I liked Avalon. After what she went through in her first marriage she was survivor. She became a great help to so many women in need, due to this she needed to be in control of everything. She was determined to make decisions on her own and had a difficult time accepting help. This is where she butted heads with Devan. Their romance was just okay. They found conflict that almost separated them but it was resolved too easily. I felt that the main issue between them was trust on her part. Issues that came to light after he had proved to her that he was a good man who omitted some things about his past that weren't really that big.
I will continue with the series and look forwards to the next one.
Thank you to the author/publisher for the ARC given through NetGalley for a review. All opinions are my own.

Oh my dear Lord in Heaven, where have all the good men gone? Well I can tell you right now that one of them is here in Janna MacGregor’s new book the Wild, Wild Rake! “...you’ll always have my blessing to kiss me senseless.” Sweet baby Jesus but who says that?! I’m still fanning myself! This story is a delight and a treat to read with characters that make you fall in love with them. Now off to face reality that I will never find a man half as good as Devan Farris.

You had me at "naughty vicar":) This was such a great story which I enjoyed immensely! I absolutely adored Devan, his sense of honour, his sense of humour, his dedication and oh yes, how insanely handsome he is and is a virgin!!!! Avalon's character was a bit harder to like but once you know her story, then you realize why she's the way she is....no matter, though, she's a warm and caring woman underneath the persona she shows Devan.
I had so many favourite parts in the story and really loved the part when they're speaking about his "member" (the night they're locked in the wine cellar) and he tells her to just ignore it, how it has a mind of its own and just wants attention! lol
I loved the story, I loved the plot, I loved the characters, I loved everything about this book and would definitely recommend it. I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, full of twists and turns all wound together in a romance which I managed to spend a whole day reading which is testament t to its entertainment value. A well written book by one of my favourite authors.

Another fine addition to the The Cavensham Heiresses series; and while I don't think it's as strong as previous titles, it continues to have a captivating, charming and romantic story.
I like Janna MacGregor writing's style, I think it gets better each time, love the banter and conversations between the main characters and of course I really liked Devan, he's definitely book boyfriend material.
My one complain would be that while at the beginning some parts feel a bit slow and the ending on the contrary seems a bit rushed but still this book is worth reading, it did left me with a smile on my face and I look forward to more stories from Janna.

While I really enjoyed the overall plot and the main characters, I felt as though the change in the relationship was low impact. I would have loved to see more deep emotion playing into the situation. It was one of those stories where I found myself looking more at the background characters than the main pair.

A story of enemies to friends to lovers. Avalon and Devan have always butted heads but when they are thrown together sparks fly. Devan is the ultimate hero, kind and intelligent. And Avalon has a generous heart, using her wealth to help other women in need. I liked this couple and rooted for them to succeed together. Their banter was fun to follow. I laughed out loud at Avalon’s day dreaming of Devan. A fun read!

MacGregor excels at easy, fun historical romances, and her newest in the Cavensham heiress series is no different. Both hero and heroine have made unconventional choices in their lives, without causing them to lose respectability, so they are very protective of themselves. It takes a while to allow the other to dig a little deeper to understand the other. It’s an enemies-to-lovers story, and it’s beautiful to watch Devan and Avalon fall in love.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

In this latest installment of The Cavensham Heiress series romance blossoms between a widowed marchioness and a charming vicar with a wild reputation. This is a sweet engaging romantic tale between two misunderstood individuals who found their way to each other against all odds.
Lady Avalon Warwyck didn't have a happy marriage, her parents forced her hands in marriage to a man who didn't love her and was very cruel to her. Left fending off for herself, she and her unborn baby retreated to the Warwyck Hall in the small village of Thistledown, just ten miles outside of London. Ten years later, while caring for her son, Thane, she managed to build a home and sanctuary for young women who wish to escape from their misfortunes in the city. But her endeavor didn't go unnoticed by the earl of Larkton. He sent his brother, Devan Farris as the newly appointed vicar for the village of Thistledown. But the charming vicar came with a reputation. As handsome as the devil himself, even Lady Avalon couldn't deny herself off his charms.
One of my favorite thing about this book is the hero. Devan is worth swooning over and he's proven countless times to be the perfect gentleman toward Avalon. His character really shines out from the others, even the heroine. I found Avalon somehow indecisive which makes her actions hot and cold at times, although she has the sensible qualities that I admire a lot. Her lookout in the relationship is sort of muddled due to her past which makes complete sense.
I've only read the author's previous work before this. She's proven to be a skilled historical romance writer and I love her writing style. She can create a tale not only engaging but also romantic and sexy. And some of those elements she executed perfectly in her books, including this one. Unfortunately, it is pale in comparison to her previous book—Rogue Most Wanted, of which I had the pleasure of reading. The first half of the book doesn't hold my interest all that much. It dragged out towards the middle and made little contribution to the story development. There was a lot of filler chapters and it made the book less exciting than it actually is. But the story finally picked up after 60% and finished off with the ultimate HEA.
