In this latest installment of The Cavensham Heiress series romance blossoms between a widowed marchioness and a charming vicar with a wild reputation. This is a sweet engaging romantic tale between two misunderstood individuals who found their way to each other against all odds.

Lady Avalon Warwyck didn't have a happy marriage, her parents forced her hands in marriage to a man who didn't love her and was very cruel to her. Left fending off for herself, she and her unborn baby retreated to the Warwyck Hall in the small village of Thistledown, just ten miles outside of London. Ten years later, while caring for her son, Thane, she managed to build a home and sanctuary for young women who wish to escape from their misfortunes in the city. But her endeavor didn't go unnoticed by the earl of Larkton. He sent his brother, Devan Farris as the newly appointed vicar for the village of Thistledown. But the charming vicar came with a reputation. As handsome as the devil himself, even Lady Avalon couldn't deny herself off his charms.

One of my favorite thing about this book is the hero. Devan is worth swooning over and he's proven countless times to be the perfect gentleman toward Avalon. His character really shines out from the others, even the heroine. I found Avalon somehow indecisive which makes her actions hot and cold at times, although she has the sensible qualities that I admire a lot. Her lookout in the relationship is sort of muddled due to her past which makes complete sense.

I've only read the author's previous work before this. She's proven to be a skilled historical romance writer and I love her writing style. She can create a tale not only engaging but also romantic and sexy. And some of those elements she executed perfectly in her books, including this one. Unfortunately, it is pale in comparison to her previous book—Rogue Most Wanted, of which I had the pleasure of reading. The first half of the book doesn't hold my interest all that much. It dragged out towards the middle and made little contribution to the story development. There was a lot of filler chapters and it made the book less exciting than it actually is. But the story finally picked up after 60% and finished off with the ultimate HEA.

I love this authors writing style. Her books are very character driven.
Avalon was forced to wed a man she didn’t love. He treated her poorly, paraded his mistress in front of her, and forced her to live on the country estate. When he died , she was relieved but now has to deal with one of his friends who manages her sons money and estate.
Declan is the 3rd son and thus has little control over his life. He’s a vicar and he’s always been intrigued by Avalon.
I liked watching these two find out that they the other is not who they expected.
It’s a good story, Easy to read. The drama was reasonable and quickly resolved. There were a few places where it dragged but overall it was a good story.

I really enjoyed this story and the author’s writing was great. But I really felt like something was missing.

In the beginning of the book it was laid out that Devan didn’t detested Avalon because she jilted a close friend of his seemingly to marry for wealth and a title.

The change from Devan detesting Avalon to him enjoying her company and ultimately caring for and loving her was glossed over and sped up. The reader wasn’t really privy to the reasons for the change even though it was a huge part of the story.

The same can be said for the change in Avalon. It seemed to me that she would be more suspicious of someone changing their attitude so quickly toward her.

It may be just me, and that’s alright, but I just felt it was lacking.

Lady Avalon Warwyk's first husband was a cruel tyrant who caused her undue humiliation. The only good thing to come out of the marriage was her beloved son, Thane. With Lord Warwyk's early death, Avalon is finally free to live her life as she saw fit and to raise her son in a loving home. When Thane's guardian informs her that his brother Devan Farris has been appointed the vicar in her parish, Avalon is prepared to bribe him to leave her alone. The last thing she needs is a spy watching everything she does, or does Devan represent a new lease on life for the young widow?

I love Janna McGregor books and this latest installment was quite enjoyable. I loved Devan. He was witty, charming and thoroughly smitten with Avalon. Ms. McGregor slowly teases out the horrendous details of Avalon's first marriage and why she's so skittish around men. The book earned 4 stars instead of 5 because the last part of the book was about Avalon's sister instead of keeping the focus on Avalon and Devon. I'm looking forward to the next installment in this enjoyable series.

This book reminds us that while it might be fun to read these stories, it couldn't have been very fun to live in the actual time (which is why I can not stand time travel stories that strand women in the past, where are the stories that bring a lady from that time and strand her in the present and watch her blossom with all the freedoms and opportunity she could have).

I got this book as an advanced reader's copy with the understanding that I would read it and provide an unbiased review.

While romance is not my go-to genre, I decided to give this book a try. I may have liked it better if I'd read other books in the series, as I think some of the subtext and subplots went over my head. Also, the characters were a bit too much of a reach for me in terms of believability, but I'd be happy to give this writer another try in the future.

Lady Avalon Warwyck survived an odious, cruel husband after a forced marriage by becoming a widow at a young age. The only bright spot was the birth of her son who is heir to the title and wealthy estate. Avalon found a noble purpose by aiding women who are pushed into life on the streets by poverty or abuse. She provides funds and places to live especially for those who have young children. Avalon’s husband was a nasty piece of work throwing her out of their London townhouse and putting his mistress with their son in place. His hold on her lasts beyond the grave as one of his friends had been placed as guardian controlling Thane’s life.

Devan Farris whose reputation precedes him, and it is a scandalous one, has work to do to convince Avalon of his good intentions. He is sent by his oldest brother, who is Thane’s guardian, to check up and spy on Avalon making sure she is not stealing her son’s fortune for her charities. Devan has fostered his wild reputation for some odd reasons, but it comes back to bite him. He has known Avalon for years and always been intrigued by her beauty and spirit after having seen her in a bad place.

Devan and Avalon’s relationship starts off as adversarial but becomes something more and enticing as they spend time together. Avalon would do anything to protect her son even it means going against her vow to never let a man control her again. She has a lot of emotional baggage that Devan will have to overcome for them to be together.

It seemed odd to me that a someone with Devan’s wicked reputation would be suitable to be a vicar even if it were not true. In reality, he was the exact opposite and Devan’s reasons for the ruse are unusual. Avalon’s husband treated her abominably in view of his mistress, Devan and his brother yet they still seemed to think well of him which is perplexing. The characters are engaging at times although there seems to be a lot of protracted drama that does not benefit the story. This is book six in the Cavensham Heiress series, but can be read as a standalone.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Great characters, intriguing premise. And a vicar with a heart of gold.

Avalon had a bad marriage to say the least. Now, a widow with a son, she helps other women.

Devan is a vicar with a bad rep. He’s a rake. Or is he?

All the feels, thoroughly satisfying and I need me a good vicar, too!

Highly recommend.

Like the other novels in this series, this story completely stands alone. While there may be mention of characters found in prior novels, it is done in a way that enhances the readers' enjoyment of the current story without overshadowing it in any way.

Speaking only to this novel... this one was hard to stay invested in. For one thing, I found it hard to understand how Devan didn't come under fire from the Bishop long before he did. While his reputation was apparently a lie, he was supposedly well known for being a womanizer and a devilish rake. Tell me, what parish would condone a vicar with that kind of reputation proceeding him? How could the Bishop not have intervened for the good of the church? Instead, they waited until circumstances forced them to address the issue.

And then there was Avalon. She was..... something else altogether. Deeply hurt during her marriage, it was understandable why she had sworn off men, choosing instead to focus on raising her son. What wasn't understandable is why her son not only appeared to be coddled but spoke like a man instead of the child he was supposed to be. I also found it hard to believe that Avalon would essentially throw herself at Devan during her soiree knowing that he was sent there to spy on her. Regardless of how she felt, she didn't completely trust him (as was evidenced later on in the novel), so I cannot begin to fathom why she would risk giving him, and by extent his brother, ammunition against her. Also, I did not care for the fact that she used Devan's brother's perceived "threat" to pretend that she hadn't gone into those negotiations with him and the Bishop knowing exactly how it was going to end. She even alludes to as much during her discussions, but suddenly it was forced?

Now don't get me wrong, there were some lovely moments where these two slowly become friends, and even more moments when they wrestle for control of the situation, and/or purposely goad one another. There just weren't enough of these moments to overshadow all the others that made this one so hard to get into.

Overall, I am sure there are loads of people (fans of this series and fans of historical romance in general) that will enjoy this one more than I did. But I will definitely read more from this author (especially if they have to do with this family).

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

First time I have read anything by this author but it won't be the last. I loved the story line and characters and would recommend this historical romance to readers.

I received an ARC of Wild, Wild Rake from Netgalley. Janna MacGregor never fails to amaze me with her sensual and witty romances. I believe this may be my favorite book of hers yet. She gets better and better with each new book.
Devan Faris, the handsome and charming vicar, and Avalon Warwyk, the widowed marchioness are brought together by being in the same parish/township. She has created a shelter and refuge for women wanting to leave prostitution or those who are pregnant and unmarried. He has been sent by her child's guardian, who also happens to be Devan's older brother to ensure all monies are accounted for and not being misspent from the marquis' funds.
The bickering and conversations between them is witty, and later heartfelt and romantic. Their animosity has grown into tolerance and affection, but Avalon still has doubts about Devan because of her first marriage to a cruel man whom she could not trust and who couldn't be faithful to her. A story of faith and belief. A must read!

I enjoyed Avalon and Devons story. I have been a fans since the beginning of the series. I love Jana MacGregor books. Devon is sent to keep an eye on Avalon and her son for his brother but feelings get in the way. I hope there will be another book in the future.

I have to admit that "Enemies to Lovers" is one of my favorite topos so I was already biased for this book. In the end so, it is not such a great surprise that I liked the plot and the characters, I am just sorry that I began this series from the 6th Installment....

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

Wild, Wild Rake by Janna MacGregor

I have read several of Ms MacGregor’s books and I am never disappointed. She is a talented write and an imaginative author.

In this story you feel from the beginning these two main characters if they could step back and listen to each other they might realize how they were made for each other.

Lady Avalon Warwick was a victim of a terribly abusive marriage until her husband died.
Devan Farris comes from a rich family and carries a reputation of being a rogue. Ms MacGregor creates a rogue virgin vicar but it works.

This was a perfectly crafted book both sweet and romantic.

Sweet sexy story about new beginnings!

Avalon, Lady Warwyk, has tried to move past her first marriage and has since: established an extremely profitable woman’s charity and is happily raising her son. The only thing that can thwart her is the handsome new vicar that she has long despised.
Devan Ferris has always been very intrigued with the beautiful Lady Warwyk. She is strong, intelligent, and just his type. Convincing her of that is just the challenge he’s looking for.

I enjoyed this book. It was such a fun, easy read, and I honestly cared about what happened with the characters. The writing was cute and the story was interesting. I thought Avalon was a good character, if maybe a little prideful.
I wish the characters and the H/h relationship was better developed. I also feel that the ending was very abrupt and more time could’ve been spent tying up the lose ends.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The story of the heroine begins when two women, one a Lady and the other a Madam, have a chance meeting in an upscale ladies dressing shop. Subsequent events reveal that while one is married to a Lord of the realm the other is the self proclaimed love of his life. After both have children and the Lord has died the real story starts. It follows the Lady as she meets an old foe who causes her heart to quicken. Can these two former foes, after a 10 year passing, find mutual respect, admiration, and love for each other and how does the former lover fare?

I found this to be a very entertaining book that proved difficult to put down as it kept my interest peaked. I have rated this book 4 stars.

I received an ARC from Netgalley for by unbiased review.

Lady Avalon Warwyk is humiliated and belittled by her husband the Marquess of Warwyk; the Marquess banishes Avalon to Warwyk Hall ten miles outside of London. Avalon manages to put all of that behind her creating a life for herself, her son and sister. Avalon’s son is the future Marquess and his guardian the Earl of Larkton wants to spy on Avalon especially since she manages a charity for prostitutes and where she is getting the money for it. The earl decides to send his own brother Devan Farris, to do the spying. When Avalon finds out that Devan is going to be the new vicar, she knows there is something up. As Devan attempts to discover Avalon’s secret he hides one of his own. Devan might be considered a rake but in reality is saving himself for his wife. Avalon doesn’t trust Devan one bit but she can’t help but fall for his charm. As Devan and Avalon work together love slowly blossoms but will Avalon be able to give her heart to a supposed rake?
This is a fantastic enemy’s to lover’s story wonderfully written and filled with intriguing plot twists. The book just moves without dragging and keeps one turning pages unable to put it down! This is without a doubt one of Ms. Janna Macgregor’s best! She how to tell a great story and bring a great family the Cavensham’s back. Avalon the strong determined heroine is just amazing! She does the best she can raising her son and taking care of her sister so it’s hard to hate her even though she is not portrayed in the best light. Devan the hidden naughty hero is charming, captivating and hard not to fall for. He’s perfect fodder for any book boyfriend and yes he is added to mine! The novel is a joy to read from beginning to end and definitely one to reread again and again!

Avalon is a widow who is raising her son alone. She lives in a small village where she is welcomed, respected and loved. She has created a charity which supports women who are leaving prostitution and looking for a new life.

Avalon is a strong woman who has kept herself separate from London, society in general and friends. She has no belief or trust for anyone except her son and her younger sister.

Her marriage was to a man who was emotionally abusive. She was forced to marry him and he never forgave her. His preference was a madam of a house of prostitution who had a son just a short time before Avalon's son was born.

When Devan comes to the village as the new vicar, Avalon is certain he was sent to spy on her and report to his brother. She is absolutely correct. His brother is the man who is the legal guardian of her young son.

Devan is not going to spy on her nor report anything to his brother. He is a kind man who loves his work in the church. He also loves people in general. He is intelligent and has a good sense of humor.

He truly is a heroic figure. I liked him very much.

It was much more difficult for me to admire Avalon. Although Devan was brutally honest with her, she constantly accused him of being a liar. All through her good works, I got the impression that one of the perks for her was being able to be lady bountiful. She constantly reminded Devan and anyone else who would listen that this was her village, her people, her plans for everyone and she was the one with the power and the money.

That attitude was not an attractive trait to me. I understand about her abusive situation in the past, but I did not understand her sense of entitlement in the present.

By the end of the book, Avalon became a more likable character.

The secondary characters added a great deal to this story. Thane, Avalon's little boy is a wonderful addition to the story.

I have loved earlier books by Ms MacGregor but, this one seemed to drag at times for me. Her beautiful writing is what saved the book for me.

I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I am voluntarily writing this review and all opinions are completely my own.

Being my first book by the author didn’t exactly know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised with the writing and the story overall.
A woman who wants to help others not so fortunate, a man that has a bad reputation but the actual truth is revealed soon enough and other side characters that together make for a good time for the lovers of historical romance. It’s a second chance at love that I’m always looking forward to in my reads even if it’s an arranged marriage.
The only thing that I haven’t liked, it’s Devan, he seemed a bit too careless about everything for my liking.
