The Lattimer family are wealthy and live in a big house on the coast of Ireland. Adam disappeared ten years ago, presumed dead. When he returns home out of the blue, his father organises a family get together so everyone can see Adam again.

There are six siblings who don’t seem very close with each other or the rest of their family. I really disliked most of them and didn’t find them relatable at all. They were so entitled and self absorbed.

At the reunion, their father is killed and it wasn’t an accident. Everyone has motive to kill him, so who did it?

I wasn’t too bothered about who the killer was as I couldn’t connect with the characters at all. I kept reading just to get it finished.

I found the book quite long and felt it really dragged. This is despite the short chapters.
Each chapter is from the point of view of one of the six siblings, and the timeline jumps around a lot too. I thought this affected the flow of the story and think it’s partly why I found it so slow.

I didn’t think much really happened in the first half and it took a while for the story to pick up, but even then I wasn’t gripped at all.

The ending was ok but just felt really flat and meh. I wasn’t surprised by the twist.

Unfortunately I didn’t really enjoy this book and it wasn’t for me.

The tale of a dysfunctional family set in Spanish Cove Ireland with each member having their own issues. Their Brother Adam goes missing one day and 10 years later shows up at the family home, not dead as they had been told. Their Father wants them all home to celebrate his return – or so they think. There is a tangled web to be unpicked and each sibling has a tale to tell. Tension builds and after someone dies the local Police officer who knows the family has to untangle the truth from the lies and find out who done it!

First time reading this writer and I enjoyed this book. I thought at first it was going to be the usefully tale but it turned out to be an interesting light read. Will look at her other books.

Really enjoyed this book. I was surprised by the reveal and didn't expect it. Great characters and an intriguing reveal of various secrets that gave almost everyone a motive for murder.

This was a family drama that was suspenseful. It was filled with so many twists and turns.
The story was told in a dual timeline which worked so well.
At times you did have to suspend disbelief but otherwise an entertaining read

I’ve been obsessed with Jo Spain’s books ever since I read The Confession, she really does like writing twisty, twisted tales and Six Wicked Reasons is a complex but addictive psychological thriller which will keep even the most clued up armchair detective spinning back and forth.

Six Wicked Reasons centres on a dysfunctional family with a controlling father, set in Wexford, Ireland, Kathleen and Frazer Lattimer have a large family with 3 daughters and 3 sons and ten years ago Adam disappears without a trace aged 21, leaving his family confused, angry and about to self-destruct.

Ten years later Adam returns and all siblings reluctantly return home to find out what happened. Each sibling is hiding a secret and each have their own reasons not to want to return and face their family. When Frazer, their controlling, bullying and often sadistic father decides to host a party aboard a yacht, nine people get on the yacht but only eight get off.

One member of the family is murdered, but who did it and why? Six Wicked Reasons is a claustrophobic and atmospheric murder mystery with a very dark edge. The chapters alternate between the past and present day giving each of the six children their chance to tell the reader their story and believe me when I say this is one truly dysfunctional family.

There was not much to like in any character, but Six Wicked Reasons shows that even terrible people are not terrible all of the time, and that you never know for sure what goes on behind closed doors. Totally absorbing, like a little thread on your jumper you can’t leave alone, you keep picking at it, and pulling at it, until the whole thing unravels in the most unexpected and spectacular of way.

I really enjoyed this book. I won't say anything about the plot - you can get an idea from the blurb and go from there - other than to say that this is one of those books that will keep you guessing right to the end. It would be a brilliant tv series - a film wouldn't allow for the brilliant complexity of the story. The characters are so well-written and believable, though many are not very likeable. I can't wait to try the author's other work.

I’ve over other books by Jo Spain so was keen for this and it didn’t disappoint .
A good family drama with elements of a Jackie Collins / Agatha Christie who dunnit/ what happened .... A proper dysfunctional family which at times did appear a tad unbelievable but made for good reading. The story is told from the points of view of all 6 siblings and I loved seeing how this all came together , it flips from past to present which at first was confusing but soon becomes easy to read as there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you reading .
Another great read, thank you netgalley for this e arc.

I enjoyed this book which is a bit of a slow burn in that we have to get introduced to all the family, but I really liked the different points of view and use of differing timelines. The characters are well drawn and realistic. The book kept me guessing until the end about motivations and back stories which I particularly liked.

Six Wicked Reasons is an expertly crafted novel, focusing on the dysfunctional and very wealthy Latimer family, and the events that took place many years ago, when one of the siblings – Adam – disappeared mysteriously. Today, he’s turned up again out of the blue, and someone else seems to have been taken revenge on for what happened back then…

Jo Spain does a fantastic job of creating convincing, interesting characters and weaving together the various narratives for each of them. There’s a strong element of mystery, obviously, which kept me guessing, and the Spanish Cove – an area of Ireland I wasn’t aware of before – takes on an almost secretive quality itself. What really happened there?

The story is complex at times but easy to follow, despite it jumping around from the past to present. I love the way we slowly find out more and more about why Adam disappeared all those years ago, whilst simultaneously trying to work out what tragedy has happened at the party which has just taken place in the present day narrative.

It’s a very compelling, intriguing story and I loved reading every page. Six Wicked Reasons is a great release from an author I’d now like to read much more from!
