Darcy struggled after the loss of her sons’ father so for a short while, his parents and sister took custody of the children to help her progress in her recovery. Now Darcy is better and living on her own along with the boys. One single incident occurs in the park and throws everything into disarray for a short time. However, thanks to George things do not progress to a point where they are irreversible. As it turns out, George is a handsome doctor, and Darcy decides to follow up with him in order to thank him for his heroic efforts. One thing leads to another, and before you know it, Darcy and George are seeing each other. Some people are not happy with this turn of events, though, and things begin to become even more interesting as these parties work to promote their own agendas and change the course of Darcy’s life forever.

K.L. Slater does not disappoint in this thriller. There are many twists and turns to keep you riveted and turning the page, as more and more is revealed with each chapter. Who is against Darcy? Who can she trust? There are many secrets that affect the lives of everyone involved in this story. Though I felt the beginning was a bit slow, the book does not disappoint as it ramps up. Before long, I found myself rooting for Darcy and the boys and angry at those working to derail her recovery and sense of self. All in all this is a good read. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

Wow, what a thrilling read! I am also single, so I could identify with a lot of the issues Darcy had with a new man in her children's life, and a lot of my own insecurities were also reflected! Highly recommended.

Another fantastic thriller from Ms Slater. The story is very fast paced and full of disturbing deception and a few good twists that I didn't see coming. It's a complex story and has lots of characters to really add to the complex story. However, the story is easy to read throughout.

I thought that this one was very well written however I did find the storyline quite hard going and difficult to read in some parts. All in all a good book however the main storyline was a little hard to stomach and wouldn’t usually be one that I would choose to read.

Fast paced and quite gripping as usual - yet a little too foreseeable and cliché-ridden for my liking. Also I couldn't really warm up to any of the characters.
Altough there isn't anything new or groundbreaking, the story still held my interest up to the last page.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the eBook!

Darcy’s husband died after a short illness from cancer. She has two young sons and is still recovering from her breakdown she had after his death. Her in-laws stepped in to look after the boys until Darcy recovered and we find that she has now got her sons back and is starting to look froward to life. When the youngest son suffers an asthma attack at the park, George, a stranger, who is a good looking doctor comes to their assistance. Darcy gets him a thank you card and encloses her telephone number. George is also a single parent with a six year old daughter and him and Darcy soon become more than good friends. Darcy and her sons agree to move in with them much to the dismay of her in-laws as they harbour hopes that Darcy will have another breakdown and they can have total custody of the boys. But before long things start to go wrong. Darcy learns that Opal, George’s ex girlfriend, is stalking her and the boys. As the story develops we find that George has lots of skeletons in his cupboard, and Darcy’s life and her sons could be in danger. The plot was compelling and there are lots of tension and twists and turns. Yes, a little unbelievable at times but a really enjoyable read and one which I couldn’t put down.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Review: Another fantastic thriller from K.L. Slater that will keep you on your toes. Single mother Darcy has a scare when her son has an asthma attack at the park. Luckily, a doctor named George is there with his daughter and rushes to the rescue. Darcy is so thankful to George and cannot stop thinking about him. As their relationship progresses, though, Darcy feels like something isn't right. For one, there is his creepy ex-girlfriend who keeps following her. And then there is the housekeeper who seems to hate Darcy. The originality of this book was what got me. I did not guess the ending and because Darcy is made to look like an unstable character from the very beginning, it's hard to tell if she has psychological issues or not. Excellent read! All the stars!

Thank you to Netgalley, K.L. Slater, and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.

K.L. Slater's books are always so intense and suspenseful. Single is no different.
Single is a psychological thriller with some romance, a ton of suspense, and a lot of crazy vibes.
I could not put this book down once I started it.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the arc, which I have enjoyed reading.
This is a psychological thriller that has many twists and turns right up to the end of the book. The storyline was excellent and concerned people who control, in so many different ways to get what they want. This was a very complex story, Single by KL Slater, and at times I had to really concentrate to follow the storyline. In the end all of the loose ends then merged into the final plot and the whole story came together.
It was a masterclass in suspense and psychological thrillers that KL Slater excels at.
Highly recommended.

What would you do if everything you knew was essentially a lie? We all have different ways of dealing and coping but it isn’t out of the realms of possibility to believe that some people would sink into depression. That’s what Darcy’s situation in Single has been like for the past four years. Her husband is dead, a fight with an illness took him quickly. But, whilst navigating the heavy, murky waters of grief, she discovers that her husband had been unfaithful. He hadn’t just had an affair, but he essentially was living a double life. He spent half the week with another woman. Her psyche broke and all that while trying to support her two sons who obviously no longer had their dad.

The story is principally told in the perspectives of Darcy and that of handsome, personable Urology Consultant, George Mortimer. He is also a single dad to Romy. Her mum also having passed away. They have so much in common. Two lives that seem ready to move forward, together, after having being dealt a really rubbish set of cards in life. As they become closer you can see that George has more than one skeleton in his closet. The story develops, and it becomes more twisty.

The secondary characters in Single were extremely unlikeable. I know that was the author’s intention but at times I felt like they should have been genuine and caring and they would have got a lot further in their needs and wants. Take Darcy’s sister-in-law for example, she professed to being her best friend and having her best interests at heart, but her actions are in complete conflict with that. Who on earth tells their friend that considering dating again after four years is too soon? It’s just manipulative and controlling to the highest extremes.

Darcy had so much on her plate. When the five of them went to Yorkshire to stay in a lodge at Christmas it really started gaining traction. Odd occurrences, the feeling of being watched, letters, flowers being delivered, photos obviously being taken. George talks about a past girlfriend and Darcy wonders if it could be someone from her past? George’s explanation has the warning bells thumping a deathening beat. What is he hiding?

I did struggle to fully be taken in with the twists in Single and I really wanted to be. I wanted it to be more menacing, more shocking, a complete gasp moment when all was revealed. One incident happened, and I couldn’t help but think if it happened to me, I probably wouldn’t have given it two thoughts. I really wanted more tension, a feeling of balancing on a knifes edge that I just didn’t experience with this story. I enjoyed the story and wouldn’t hesitate on giving K.L. Slaters other books a try.
