Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine Books for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

The Other People is a domestic thriller novel with a dash of magical realism. I really enjoyed the plot and most of the characters. This book is about a father in search of his missing young daughter (he believes he sees her in a car on a highway while driving home) even though at the same time, police find her body and his wife's body in their home after what seems like a burglary gone wrong. There is a lot of mystery around their deaths that end up branching out to other side characters in the story. With the magical realism added to the book, I didn't see the plot twists coming and the ending wasn't super predictable.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and could not put it down. I recommend this book for someone who likes murder mysteries, domestic thrillers and Stephen King (this reminded me a little bit of his style of storytelling).

C.J. Tudor did it again! 4 Stars!

This one starts out with a bang! Gabe is driving home and a little girl’s face appears in the window in the car of front of him. It’s his 5 year old daughter, Izzy. He never sees her again. Years later as he continues to try and out find out what happened he learns about the Other People. This was a great thriller. And there were a couple additional stories at the end of the audio and man they were creepy as hell! 😳

Quick Take: just like any other night, Gabe is driving home from work when he gets stuck behind a van. As his nerves wear thin he glimpses a familiar face in the van window: his little girls. What follows is an intense, pulse-pound page turner that explore just how far a parent would go for their child.

What I Loved: the premise was completely fascinating to me and every storyline that Tudor includes features a parent doing whatever necessary to help their child. While I am not a parent myself, and therefore cannot fully sympathize with many of the characters in this novel, I found many of the motivations of the characters profoundly moving. Full of twists and turns, The Other People was a wild ride from start to finish.

What I Didn’t Love: There were a lot of threads to follow and at times things got a little confusing but no less compelling and Tudor does a fabulous job keeping you guessing until the very end. I do think the role of the Other People was oversold int he synopsis- I went into this book expecting a strong presence of a cult-like organization- and while they played a role I would have loved to learn more about them during the course of the story.

What a interesting premise of seeing a love one right before they are reported missing. The manic feelings of trying to figure out what happened can drive someone mad! This book was well-written, had wonderful characters, and displayed a marvelous setting for this all to unfold.

Lately I've been feeling a little let down by thrillers. Many of them seem to be doing too much and the reader ends up feeling confused and unsatisfied. Even thrillers that most other people like (Like the Silent Patient) I disliked, because the twists just weren't fulfilling or didn't really make sense for the story that was being told.

In comes The Other People and I'm ready to read anything else C.J. Tudor puts out after this. This story follows Gabe, who is driving home and sees his daughter pop up at the back of a strange van. This is the beginning of the end of Gabe's life, as he deals with the death of his wife and the loss of his daughter, but he never gives up hope on finding his daughter. There's also Katie, who is a service station waitress who often sees Gabe at her station, and although they seem like strangers, they're more connected than one may think.

Although the plot of The Other People doesn't have any mind-blowing twists and turns, I did find myself getting clues along the way but still being invested in the story that was being told. There was something to discover all the way to the end, and that kept me enjoying the story until the end. I didn't give this book 4 stars because there was an element I didn't really enjoy, which may seem like a spoiler so... [I disliked the magical realism aspect with Isabella (hide spoiler)]. However, I dislike this element in all stories if I don't go in knowing a story has this aspect, so I don't count it against this book specifically, it was just that I couldn't give it 5 stars because this aspect isn't explained well and isn't established before beginning the story.

Overall, I highly recommend The Other People for those that want a mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and one that's tightly written and well-explained. I can appreciate that type of just good storytelling, as I'm sure many others can as well.

I really enjoyed CJ Tudor’s The Chalk Man, so I was excited to read this one. After reading it, I feel a bit disappointed.

I didn’t feel connected to the characters which didn’t help me feel connected to the story. I thought the story was good, it was very interesting and had some great twists and turns. Yet, I couldn’t connect emotionally to the story, because of the flatness of the characters . When the twists and turns happened I wasn’t shocked, I also wasn’t in fear for any character’s lives. I felt like a casual observer.

Objectively the story was pretty great. But a really good book will have my adrenaline pumping and me rooting for our MC. The beginning was probably the weakest part as well. Though it starts off pretty quickly to get you hooked I also felt a bit confused with all the characters. It wasn’t till the middle and end that I was more invested in the actual story.

If characters aren’t a huge priority to you then this will probably be something that a lot of people enjoy. I liked the idea behind the “Other People” and I really like when things start connectIng in crazy ways.

I will continue to check out CJ Tudor, because I think he is a very talented story teller. While this book wasn’t mind blowing it was still a worthwhile read.

The Other People is the latest thriller from C.J. Tudor. Gabe has spent the past three years searching for the daughter everyone believes is dead. He travels the motorway where he claims to have seen his five-year old in the back seat of a strange car. At his lowest moment of despair his path crosses with that of a man known only as the Samaritan. The Samaritan introduces Gabe to the Other People, a secret network of strangers righting perceived wrongs. Could his daughter’s disappearance have something to do with a tragedy in Gabe’s past or is she really gone like the police believe?
I loved the fast-past story, the uncertainty, and the unraveling of Gabe’s past. Like Tudor’s other books, there is a supernatural element to the story. Unlike her other books, this just didn’t work for me. I found it to be distracting and unnecessary, though not enough to put down the book. I still needed to know happened to Gabe’s family and why.

Wow! What a book! It has been a long time since I’ve read a book that I could not put down, even to sleep. I finished it in 3 sittings. It reminded me a tiny bit of The Chain by Adrian McKinty. If you’re looking for an interesting, thrilling, unputdownable book then read this!

I really enjoyed this book. Well written and twists that were unexpected. My only qualm was that parts of the story felt they could be further fleshed out. That said it is an excellent thriller that kept me guessing until the end. I would definitely recommend this book.

Thank you Netgalley, CJ Tudor and Ballentine Books for giving me an advanced copy in return for a fair and honest review. I started reading The Other People because I love a good suspenseful thriller. What I wasn’t suspecting was a piece of the supernatural. I had no idea this was part of the story and almost stopped reading but glad I didn’t. The characters grab you from the beginning when everything seems so scrambled. Life is off the tracks for Gabe but you feel like you are right there beside him through his journey. I loved how so many storylines weaved in and out to connect right back. If you are in the mood for a mystery with just a touch of supernatural, this will keep you reading. This was my first CJ Tudor book but won’t be my last.

A suspenseful thrill ride from start to finish. CJ Tudor sure knows how to tell a unique story and keep readers on the edge of their seat. There was one element of this story that didn't quite work for me but not enough to ruin the story - still highly recommend!

Captivating And Compelling!

One night while Gabe is driving home on the freeway during rush hour traffic a little face pops up in the rear window of the car in front of him and he is amazed to notice how much she looks like his five year old daughter Izzy who is patiently waiting for him to come home along with his wife so they can all have dinner together. Suddenly the child's mouth screams Daddy and Gabe sees a hand pull the little girl.down out of sight. Gabe is very confused, it can't be Izzy in the strange car ahead of him, can it? Should be follow the car? He calls home on his cell but it just goes to voice mail and then his phone battery dies. Should be continue following the car with the little girl who looks like Izzy or get to a phone at the nearest rest stop to let his wife know he's running late. Gabe decides to call home at the service stop and a strange voice answers his call and informs him to come home immediately! Was that Izzy in that strange car? Where is Gabe's wife?

This was a terrific and mysterious book with so many twists and turns along the way even up to the final pages. This was my first book by C.J. Tudor and I was very impressed with her storytelling and smooth writing. The emotions of the characters tugged at my heart strings. I loved and appreciated that almost every character had a veil of mystique surrounding them and left me wondering if they all had ulterior motives. It was fun to think I had figured the many mysteries out and who was ultimately responsible for the abduction but I was so (delightedly) wrong!

I want to thank the publisher "Random House Publishing - Ballentine Books" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this marvelous book!

I highly recommend this "The Other People to all mystery and thriller lovers and have given a rating of 5 Captivating 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Stars!!

This book started off strong-a compelling plot that brings you in from the beginning. And as much as I love thrillers and can suspend a bit of reality to do so, this book started to have me making leaps to do so, which results in my marking it down a bit. It just started involving too many people with questionable motives that just left me feeling a bit exhausted and underwhelmed by the ending. It was solid, but not one of my favorites. 3/5 ⭐️ for me.

Kidnapping, murder, revenge, this book has it all. Three years ago, Gabe was hurrying home to his wife and daughter when he sees his daughters face in a car in front of him. Soon, he gets a call that his wife and daughter have been murdered. How can that be? He knows he just saw his daughters face! After the murders, Gabe spends everyday traveling the highway looking for the car that took his daughter. Fran is also driving. She drives to run from the bad guy and keep her daughter safe. Her daughter has episodes so Fran must watch her at all times. For readers of The Chalk Man, you will not be disappointed!

C. J. Tudor does it again! I loved The Chalk Man and The Hiding Place, and now I can't wait to find out what's next. The Other People revolves around Gabe, a haunted, tortured soul on a mission. One night he was driving home from work when he saw his 5 year old daughter in a stranger's car but, while he tries to follow it, he loses track of the car. Upon arriving home, Gabe is informed by the police that his wife and daughter have both been brutally murdered. And of course he's a suspect because he can't or won't give a believable accounting of his time, but the police can't make a case against him. Three years later, we meet Gabe again. He has now quit his job and spends his days and nights searching for the daughter that he believes is still alive and the memorable car he believes he last saw her in. In his quest, he meets "The Other People," a group that helps those who have lost a loved one -- whatever it takes.

The second main character in the novel is Fran. She and her daughter Alice aren't on the road looking for someone, they're on the road because they're on the run. They're constantly on the move trying to keep ahead of some undefined evil, "a bad man." Their life is also complicated by a narcolepsy-type syndrome from which Alice suffers. Author C. J. Tudor introduces a supernatural element with Alice as whenever she "falls asleep" she communicates with an unknown woman and always wakes up with a pebble in her hand.

The Other People is highly atmospheric and tense. I couldn't put it down once I got hooked. This is a fantastic thriller with lots of twists and turns to keep you engaged. It's a complex tale, and I loved it!

Thanks to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I'm sorry it took me so long to post a review. 5 Bright Stars.

This is also a multi perspective story and I thought the way all three stories merged together was exceptional. The plot did require a lot of coincidences though and a few I can take but this was too much. There was a supernatural element to this story that was mildly interesting when it was introduced but I quickly started disliking. I will credit Tudor will being creative and I think she did pull it off relatively well. However, I wish she had spent more time working out the story so it didn't need so many coincidences to work and cut out the mystical element completely.

This book was awesome.....Loved the way the story was told separately by the characters and then they wove them together.

The Other People by CJ Tudor is a thriller with lots of fun twists and turns. The main character, Gabe, is likable and relatable, and the story is totally original. But there’s a really strange and unexplained twist at the end. The only thing I can compare it to is the 90’s movie, From Dusk Til Dawn, which was a crime thriller that suddenly took a hard left turn into vampire territory. There are no vampires in this book, but it definitely has an unexpected supernatural element to it. Overall, I really enjoyed The Other People. This is my first book by CJ Tudor but I would definitely read more of her works in the future. If you like thrillers, check it out!

DOUBLE REVIEW – THE HIDING PLACE AND THE OTHER PEOPLE BY CJ TUDOR

This might seem a complicated review because I’m writing it for two books, but it’s not because, to me, the books were very similar.
I gave both of these books three stars. They both left me confused and needing more information. They both dealt in the supernatural world, but The Hiding Place did a better job of it. Both of these books were well written and kept me interested and intrigued enough to make it to the end. The pace was mostly fast enough in both books, which is something I really needed during a month of dnf’d books and just not being able to get into something long enough to even really dnf it.
It’s also very hard to review these books without spoiling, but I’ll try.
The Other People dealt with the supernatural and I felt that it really didn’t need to. I felt like the book did too much and had too many turns that didn’t necessarily need to be in the book. I thought the actual other people plot line was enough to carry the book without the added supernatural effect.
As for The Hiding Place, I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed the supernatural aspect, but I wanted more. The book left me confused and wanting to know exactly what happened to Joe’s sister Annie. (This shouldn’t be a spoiler, as the UK edition is called The Taking of Annie Thorne.)
So, basically, I wanted less supernatural for The Other People and more for The Hiding Place, but both were well written and good reads.
I will definitely read The Chalk Man, but after that, I don’t know if I’ll read any of Tudor’s to be released novels.
