Author Eric L. Harry (https://www.ericlharry.com) published the novel “Pandora: Resistance” in 2020. Mr. Harry has published seven novels. This is the third of his “Pandora Thriller” series. This is the fifth novel of Mr. Harry's that I have read.

I received an ARC of this novel through https://www.netgalley.com in return for a fair and honest review. I categorize this novel as ‘R’ because it contains mature language and violence. The story is set in the near future. A virus has swept the globe. Some have died while others undergo severe mental change. They are subject to violent rages and sociopathic homicide. None of the virus survivors are bound by morality or emotion.

The primary characters are twin sisters Emma & Isabel along with their brother Noah Miller. Dr. Emma Miller is an Epidemiologist and the first virus victim. Dr. Isabela Miller is a Neuroscientist that has been researching the virus. Emma is one of the higher functioning virus survivors. She has assembled a mix of both infected and uninfected in her own Community. Under her leadership, the Community is growing quickly. She is ruthless about imposing hard rules on the citizens. She is protecting them and providing food and healthcare, so they follow her.

Isabel is traveling with her bodyguard and lover, Marine Captain Rich Townsend. They are searching for her brother Noah and his family. Both Isabel and Rich have been following orders from what remains of the US government. Noah and his family on the road trying to get to Texas where the government in exile has fled.

Isabel, Noah, and their companions must fight their way across dangerous territory. Everywhere they go they encounter people desperate for food. The infected are worse as they may react with mindless violence. Will they complete their journey to safety? There is a concern in the government about the growing power Emma is accumulating. Is it time to take action and destroy her and her Community?

I enjoyed the 9+ hours I spent reading this 307-page science fiction novel. The writing seems to be a little choppy in places. While this novel can be read on its own, I recommend reading the first two novels in the series before this one. I had read the second novel of the series, Pandora: Contagion, about two years ago. That helped set the stage for this novel. The story is full of action. The end of this novel was very abrupt. I hope that is in preparation for a fourth novel in the series. I give this novel a 3.8 (rounded up to a 4) out of 5.

This novel follows three MCs as they try to survive in a society that is falling apart. Emma Miller, the first person infected with Pandoravirus, is trying to create a functioning society with both infected and uninfected members. Isabel Miller is working with the government on a cure. Noah Miller is trying to get to Texas with his family where one of the last stable portions of the government remains.

This novel is very bleak as death, rape and starvation are rampant. Everyone is terrified of being left behind to be attacked by hordes of mindless infected hordes. Both Houston and Emma’s communities have problems as they’re under constant attacks and death is a constant on everyone’s mind.

The characters are good but not as memorable as I would have liked. I found some of Noah’s actions illogical and too emotional (like when he wasted ammo by shooting a dead person an extract two times because he was afraid). His extreme emotional states might not actually be over the top but just seem that way when compared to the emotional less infected, it’s hard to tell.

The conclusion is strange too as I’m not sure if this is the final novel in a trilogy or if another novel will be written. Other than a naturally immune woman being found everything was wrapped up but the author put a lot of focus on the immune women so who knows.

Overall this is a good, yet bleak, novel about a virus that destabilizes the world.

Thank you to Rebel Base Books and Netgalley.

To give a valued review I had to go back to the beginning, This novel is the second in the series. So, I went backwards to where the story began. The first book is “Pandora: Outbreak”. It was excellent in every way! Such details and description.s that caused each scene to stand out in visual clarity. It would literally give me terrors thinking about it after I finished. I could not wait to get to the second novel: “Pandora: Resistance" continues the story in a smooth and uninterrupted fashion. Not all seasoned authors can accomplish that. Once again, I found the story generating nightmarish scenes in my mind, visuals that were due to such good writing. The narrative, the fleshed our characters and the theme woven through it gave this second book in the series a continued entertaining experience. I cannot wait for another book by Erik L. Harry.

This story continues following the Miller family and how the Pandora virus has affected them.

Dr. Emma Miller became the first American infected, while studying the virus. She has gone on to form a community of infected people and set rules and punishments for them. She welcomes Infected and Uninfected, as long as they follow the rules and contribute, they get fed and housed.

Her sister Isabel, who was called in to study her twin Emma, is still working on finding a cure. She works with the government toward this goal.

Noah is just trying to keep his family together and alive.. They end up getting forced from their camp and are trying to find safety.

I really enjoyed the varied points of view. We get to follow both the infected and uninfected and how they are coping and working to make a better world with what is left. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Pandora: Resistance by Eric L. Harry is the third book in the thrilling apocalyptic science fiction fantasy Pandora Thriller series. This thrilling story began in the first book of the series and has picked up right where the action left off in each additional read so it’s definitely one that needs to be read in order to be understood.

The story started with Dr. Emma Miller being called in to investigate the outbreak of a new virus but when she contracted the virus herself she became the one being studied. After Emma survived the Pandoravirus which kills roughly fifty percent of those that contract the virus it became clear that those that survived are changed.

Dr. Isabel Miller, who is a neuroscientist, was called in to help study the virus and her twin sister Emma when it became clear that the survivors had parts of their brains damaged and were now impervious to pain and lacked all emotion. After Isabel saw what was going on she couldn’t help but warn their brother, Noah, and let him know to get his family to safety.

The story has switched the point of view between the siblings giving readers a look at all sides of the outbreak. Isabel has the inside look at how the government is handling the outbreak, Noah and his family show what it’s like out in the world.. And then there’s Emma, such a suitably creepy and chilling point of view seeing that she is one of the infected.

The Pandora series to me was on that started off a little too scientific in parts of the first book but as it’s moved on it became more intense and action packed. Having characters involved in everything going on in that time in the world gave a deeper level to it than some other apocalyptic reads too. I would still warn readers that rape and assault are a big part of the infected side of the story in case those would be triggers though. Otherwise I do think fans of this genre will like this action packed story of these siblings.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

A creepy and well written story that kept me on the edge till the end.
I liked the well crafted plot, the fleshed out cast of characters and the world building.
Even if I didn't read the other books in this series I had no issues with the plot or the characters.
I look forward to reading other books by this author.
Recommended.
Many thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This was a very interesting story that I could not put down. It's so scary because I could believe that this could actually happen and within my lifetime. If you are looking for a new creepy story to shock you I would check this one out because it terrified me to no end. I can not wait to go back and read book one and two and then maybe reread this one again.

"Pandora: Outbreak", the first book in this series gave me nightmares it was so well written. The second one and now this one, though, are not nearly as good. No one who knows anything about military siege theory would set themselves up as Noah and his family did in book 2, "Pandora: Contagion" and so it's stupid that they are forced to abandon their redoubt so quickly and in such disarray. So much of the story is logistics with each of the three POV, and not story development. I was greatly disappointed.
